Moving from Berlin to Koblenz (Rhineland-Palatinate) – and back

From Berlin to Koblenz
From the Spree to the Deutsches Eck: moving to Koblenz
Over the Bendorf Bridge
With us, a move from Berlin to Koblenz begins at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit and ends where the Moselle flows into the Rhine. In between lie around 604 kilometres – approx. 9 hrs of driving time by removal lorry including a break. At the free survey, in your flat or by video, we record volume, floors and carrying routes at both addresses and then give a binding fixed price. Dismantling, packing, transport and furniture assembly in Koblenz are handled by the same team; on request we also dismantle the kitchen and reassemble it on the Rhine. Whether private household or office: we plan vehicle and staff according to what we see at the survey.
The route is not motorway all the way: after the A9, A4 and A5, the lorry bypasses Gießen on the A480 and then follows the Lahn via the B 429 and B 49, past Wetzlar and Weilburg, to Limburg. Only there does it join the A3 and, at the Dernbach junction, the A48, which crosses the Rhine over the Bendorf Bridge. This federal-road stage takes time, so we factor it into the schedule. We are liable for damage under the HGB; additional protection is possible on request. We plan the return move from Koblenz to Berlin on the same route and with the same care.

Move
planning Berlin ↔ Koblenz
For a move of around 604 kilometres, we plan more than the drive: packing, vehicle size and the parking restriction zones at both addresses. Then there are deadlines – notice in Berlin, registration in Koblenz within two weeks – and the question of whether your new address is on the left or right bank of the Rhine, because that determines the last motorway exit. We plan pianos, art or storage individually. That way you have one contact person for the move between Berlin and Koblenz.

FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions
Why Berliners move to the Rhine and Moselle – and back
A move from Berlin to Koblenz often has professional reasons. The city is home to the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), plus the University of Koblenz and the RheinMoselCampus of Koblenz University of Applied Sciences. With around 113,000 inhabitants, Koblenz is the third-largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate after Mainz and Ludwigshafen. We bring your household goods over the around 604 kilometres, carefully packed and on the agreed date.
Conversely, many plan a return move from Koblenz to Berlin – for a new job, studies or to live closer to family and friends again. As a Berlin company, we know the period buildings with rear courtyards and side wings that many move back into, and we organise this route just like the outward one: with packing, transport, furniture assembly and parking restrictions outside the Berlin door.
604 km: through Thuringia, Hesse and the Lahn valley to the Rhine
The drive begins in Moabit: via the A100, AVUS (A115) and Berlin ring road onto the A9 to the Hermsdorf interchange, then on the A4 past Erfurt and Eisenach to the Kirchheim junction and via the Hattenbach junction onto the A5 (around 60 km). At the Reiskirchen junction, the A480 leads around Gießen; after that the lorry drives along the Lahn on the B 429 and B 49, past Wetzlar and Weilburg, to Limburg-Nord. The A3 takes it to the Dernbach junction, and the A48 (21 km) over the Bendorf Bridge to Koblenz – around 604 kilometres in total.
Removal lorries over 3.5 t may drive no faster than 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO), and slower in the Lahn valley. The pure driving time is a good eight hours, and after four and a half hours at the latest a 45-minute break is mandatory (EU Regulation 561/2006) – we reckon with approx. 9 hrs of driving time including the break. With loading in Berlin and unloading in Koblenz it becomes a long day; whether two drivers drive on one day or we plan two days, we decide at the survey. The same applies to the way from Koblenz to Berlin.
Left or right of the Rhine: arriving in Koblenz
Koblenz lies at the Deutsches Eck, where the Moselle flows into the Rhine; since 2002 the city has formed the northern gateway to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is divided into 30 districts, including the Altstadt, Lützel, Metternich, Güls and Moselweiß on the left bank of the Rhine, and Ehrenbreitstein and Pfaffendorf on the right bank. For addresses on the left bank we usually take the Koblenz-Nord exit on the A48, and for the districts on the right bank the Bendorf/Neuwied exit. We check hillside locations and narrow old-town lanes at the survey for access and parking space.
For the return move to Berlin, we apply for the parking restriction via the road traffic authority of the district office and plan the approach to your neighbourhood – whether a period building with a rear courtyard or a new build with an underground car park. After moving in, you have two weeks in both cities to register with the registration authority.
