Moving to Koblenz: Costs Process & Districts

From Berlin to Koblenz
Moving to Koblenz: between the Deutsches Eck and the Karthause
Guide
Koblenz lies at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle, the Deutsches Eck, and is the third-largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate after Mainz and Ludwigshafen. The city is divided into 30 districts: on the left bank of the Rhine, for example, the Altstadt (old town), Südliche Vorstadt, Lützel, Metternich and the Karthause on the heights; on the right bank, Ehrenbreitstein, Pfaffendorf and Horchheim. For your private move we clarify in advance whether it is an old-town lane, a hillside location or a housing block – access and floor determine the effort.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive the lorry around 604 km via the A9, the A4, the A5 and the A3, with the last stretch on the A48; with a break that is about nine hours. That is why we often load larger flats the day before. We quote the fixed price after a survey, including for the return route from Koblenz to Berlin. More on the route under Moving Berlin – Koblenz. If the new flat is not yet available, we store your belongings in Berlin in the meantime and deliver on the agreed date.

What we take care of when you move to Koblenz
Planning in Berlin, arrival at the Deutsches Eck
We do not have a branch in Koblenz but come with the lorry from Berlin-Moabit. That is why we ask about access, floor and stairwell in advance – whether a period building in the Südliche Vorstadt, a flat on the Karthause or a house in Güls on the Moselle. We pack, carry, transport and reassemble the furniture; we plan the parking restriction in front of the new address with enough lead time. We are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance for valuables is possible. We coordinate the date with the handover of the flat.

Part load: move affordably
For smaller volumes or single items, a part load (Beiladung) to Koblenz can be cheaper: your belongings share the load space with other consignments on the route via the A9, A4, A5 and A3 towards the Rhine. In return, a time window applies instead of a fixed date; we clarify whether a trip fits when you enquire.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Koblenz
The 30 districts of Koblenz at a glance
Koblenz is divided into 30 districts, nine of which form eight local districts with their own local council. On the left bank of the Rhine lie the Altstadt at the Deutsches Eck, the Südliche Vorstadt, Goldgrube, Rauental and Moselweiß, and north of the Moselle Lützel, Neuendorf, Wallersheim and Kesselheim. The Karthause lies on the heights above the city, with Metternich and Güls with Bisholder on the Moselle. On the right bank of the Rhine come Ehrenbreitstein below the fortress, Pfaffendorf, Horchheim, Niederberg and Arenberg; a cable car links the Rhine promenade with the fortress. For the move, the location matters more than the name: old-town lanes, hillside locations and housing blocks each require different planning. If you are moving with children, also look at the route to school and bus connections; commuters should look at the links to the A48 and A61. Places with their own pages can be found under Locations.
Authorities, universities and work in Koblenz
Koblenz is home to many public authorities: the Federal Archives, the State Main Archive, the Constitutional Court of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support and the Bundeswehr Central Hospital. In addition there are the University of Koblenz and the RheinMoselCampus of Koblenz University of Applied Sciences. If you are moving for a job or a course of study, you should look for a flat early; we do not quote specific rents because they depend heavily on location and condition. For transport from Berlin, enquire about our private move in good time so that your preferred date fits the handover. Notice in Berlin, parking restriction, registration at the citizens' office and bulky waste are best planned backwards from moving-in day; the City of Koblenz's deadlines are listed further down. If needed, we store furniture in Berlin until the flat is ready to move into.
Moving costs for every household size
Our price scale is simple: 1-room flat from €354, 2-room flat from €579, 3-room flat from €909, 4-room flat from €1,329. For a house or a villa we are happy to prepare an individual quote. For a long-distance move we charge from €4.20/km. Take advantage of a free survey now.
Calculating moving costs: what matters
The calculation is based primarily on volume and distance (from €4.20/km). Then come the floor, the lift and, if required, a parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone). If you also need furniture assembly or a part load, you should say so early on.

Registering in Koblenz: citizens' office, booking an appointment and the online route
Anyone moving to Koblenz must register within two weeks of moving in under § 17 of the Federal Registration Act (BMG). The responsible office is the City of Koblenz citizens' office (Bürgeramt) at Gymnasialstraße 6, 56068 Koblenz.
- Appointment: book online via the city's appointment portal or by phone via the public authority number 115 (according to the city, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm) or +49 261 129 7200. If you cannot find a free appointment, you can report urgent cases by email to [email protected].
- Online: according to the city, you do not need an appointment for electronic registration of your address.
- Opening hours: according to the city's website, Mondays 8 am to 12:30 pm and 1:30 to 3 pm, Tuesdays 8 am to 12:30 pm, Wednesdays 1 to 5:30 pm, Thursdays and Fridays 8 am to 12:30 pm. Over the 2026/27 turn of the year, the citizens' office is closed from 24.12.2026 to 03.01.2027.
- Special cases: for registering a secondary residence or when moving from abroad, the city refers you to the appointment booking.
Exactly which documents are required is described by the city on its e-government registration page. Clarify this before your appointment and request the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) early. Tips on settling in are collected in our living guide for Koblenz, and our services for Koblenz are shown on the Koblenz location page.
Bulky waste in Koblenz: collection via the municipal service
Before moving out of your old flat, it is worth booking a bulky waste collection. The City of Koblenz sets out fixed rules for this.
- Booking: book at least three weeks in advance, by phone on 0261 129-4545, by email to [email protected] or via the municipal service's online form. According to the city, the waiting time can be several weeks.
- Costs: according to the city, private households can use up to two free collections per year; further appointments cost extra. Commercial waste is always charged.
- Size and weight: items may be no more than 1.70 metres long and weigh no more than 40 kilograms.
- Putting it out: place everything at the kerbside by 6 am on the collection day. You may put it out from 7 pm the evening before. Metal parts and large electrical appliances are kept separate from the rest of the bulky waste.
When booking, state what is to be collected, and do not add any of your neighbours' items. Because of the possible waiting time, plan the appointment early so that the collection takes place before the flat handover. For larger clearances that go beyond bulky waste, we offer house clearance and household liquidation. The city has a separate official page for the road traffic authority. It does not mention an application procedure for removal parking restrictions there. So discuss the need for a parking restriction zone with us early on.
