Moving to Neuwied: Costs Process & Districts

Neuwied guide
Neuwied: a planned town of tolerance on the Middle Rhine
Areas, offices, daily life
Neuwied was founded in 1653 as a planned town; a privilege of 1662 guaranteed far-reaching religious freedom and attracted religious refugees. Today around 67,000 people live in the town on the Rhine, spread across 14 local districts from Engers to Oberbieber. If you are planning a move to Neuwied, we give you a fixed price after the survey. Your belongings are covered by liability under the HGB. Call us on 01625978461 and we will plan the process together.
In addition to the transport, we can take care of the no-parking zone application, assembly and packing services and kitchen dismantling on request. In the town centre with its baroque grid and in local districts such as Feldkirchen, we clarify access and the parking space in advance. More about our offer for private households can be found under Private move. This makes your move to Neuwied predictable and transparent.

Frequently asked questions about living in Neuwied
The local districts of Neuwied
Neuwied is divided into 14 local districts, each with its own local council. The town centre goes back to the planned town of 1653, with the palace of the Princes of Wied and the dyke on the Rhine. Engers lies directly on the Rhine with the late-baroque Schloss Engers, now home to the Villa Musica state foundation. In Heddesdorf, Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen was mayor from 1852 to 1865 – this is where the beginnings of his cooperative idea emerged.
Further north in the Wied valley lie Niederbieber, Oberbieber and Altwied, which are more village-like. Irlich lies at the mouth of the Wied, Heimbach-Weis with the zoo in the east; these are joined by Feldkirchen, Gladbach, Rodenbach and Block, among others. For each local district, we adapt the process to access, parking and floor.
Work, transport and leisure in Neuwied
Neuwied lies on the right bank of the Rhine, around ten kilometres north-west of Koblenz. The B 42 and B 256 cross in the town; the Raiffeisen Bridge leads to Weißenthurm on the other side of the Rhine, and the A3 and A48 motorways are quickly reached. Well-known industrial companies are the Rasselstein tinplate works (thyssenkrupp) and the mechanical engineering company Winkler+Dünnebier.
For leisure there is the Zoo Neuwied in Heimbach-Weis, the 7.5-kilometre dyke with its dyke museum and, every July, the Deichstadtfest town festival. We do not give specific rents, as we have no reliable current source. Our private move service helps you set the date to match the flat handover.
Moving prices by flat size
Whether you live in a small studio flat or a large villa – we have the right offer. We move 1-room flats from €354, 2-room flats from €584, 3-room flats from €884 and 4-room flats from €1,329. For houses and villas there is an individual quote. If you are moving far away: long-distance moves from €3.95/km. Arrange your free survey now.
What the price in Neuwied depends on
For a move, the volume and the distance (from €3.95/km) are the main factors in the price. The floor and lift affect the staffing required, while a parking restriction zone settles the parking situation. Additional services such as furniture assembly or a part load can be booked as options.

Neuwied: applying for a temporary no-parking zone for your move
In Neuwied, a no-parking zone for a move is ordered by the public order department of the town administration, Engerser Landstraße 17, phone 02631 802-431. According to the town, the legal basis is §§ 45 and 46 StVO. The application is informal and in writing; you need to state the location, the period and the length in metres, which depends on the vehicle. Submit it at least 14 days in advance. If someone is acting on your behalf, a power of attorney is also required.
If the review is positive, you receive the permit together with the traffic order for putting up the signs. According to the town, three things are important:
- The signs may only be put up once the permit has been received and must be in place at least three days before use.
- The installation is recorded in a protocol.
- The moving-in and moving-out addresses each need their own order.
According to the town, the fees range from 30 to 200 euros depending on duration and scope. If you also need to restrict the traffic area, for example for a furniture lift, the town counts "moves" among the measures that require a permit to restrict the traffic area; this requires a site plan to scale. The public order department can be reached on weekday mornings from Monday to Friday and asks you to make an appointment. Our offer for this can be found under Parking restriction zone, and details on applying in the guide to the parking restriction zone.
Neuwied: registration and re-registering your car at the citizens' office
After moving in, you register at the citizens' office of the Neuwied town administration, Engerser Landstraße 17. To do this, you fill in a registration form. Registration is free of charge; appointments are required and can be made via termin.neuwied.de or by phone on 02631 802-777. The citizens' office is open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 7:30 am to 5 pm, on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 am to 12 noon and on Thursdays from 7:30 am to 6 pm. The town provides the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) as a fillable form, and there is a declaration of consent for moves with minors. You need to bring your identity card or passport and, if you are renting, the landlord confirmation; if you have bought, a notarised purchase contract or a land register extract is sufficient.
If you bring a vehicle from another registration district, according to the town you must re-register it "immediately". This requires prior registration at your new place of residence; an appointment is needed here too. You will need, among other things, your ID, a current registration certificate, registration certificate parts I and II, the latest MOT-equivalent inspection report (HU) and the eVB insurance confirmation number. The fee is based on the fee regulations for road traffic measures and varies.
- Book appointments for registration and car re-registration promptly
- Obtain the landlord confirmation from your landlord in advance
- Keep vehicle documents and the eVB number to hand
For the deadlines, read Re-registration after the move and Re-registering your car. More about moves to the town can be found under Moves to Neuwied.
