Kaiserslautern for New Residents
Kaiserslautern: Barbarossa's City, University and Palatinate Forest
Settling in, not just moving
Kaiserslautern is an independent industrial and university city on the north-western edge of the Palatinate Forest with a good 101,000 inhabitants; according to Wikipedia, there are also almost 48,000 Americans in the region, mainly around Ramstein Air Base. Frederick I Barbarossa had the castle expanded into an imperial palace in the 12th century. The city is best known for 1. FC Kaiserslautern, which plays at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion on the Betzenberg. Today Kaiserslautern is developing into a city of science and IT.
With the RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau, Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence and two Fraunhofer institutes, the city is a research location. The south of the city area lies within the Palatinate Forest Nature Park. We are a moving company from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21), not from Kaiserslautern; where access is tight – for example in old buildings in the city centre or in elevated locations such as Hohenecken – we clarify this with you in advance. The route from Berlin – around 655 km – is described on our page Moving Berlin – Kaiserslautern.

What We Clarify Before Your Move to Kaiserslautern
Slopes, old buildings, parking zone
We come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and are not a Kaiserslautern business. That is why we ask detailed questions before moving day: is the flat on a slope, as on the Betzenberg or in Hohenecken, in a resident parking zone in the city centre or in a local district? Is there a lift, and how wide is the staircase? If needed, we apply for a parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone). Your belongings are covered under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per m³), and additional insurance is available on request. We give you the price after the survey as a fixed price. Kaiserslautern
for Newcomers
When moving to Kaiserslautern, newcomers should clarify a few points early: registration at the citizens' centre in the town hall on Willy-Brandt-Platz, the choice between the core city and a local district, and the parking situation at the new address. Students should look for a room near the RPTU or the university of applied sciences in good time, because demand is high at the start of the semester. The resident parking permit is only issued after moving in and registering. On request we take care of the parking restriction zone, furniture assembly and – if the flat is not yet free – storage.

Frequently Asked Questions from Newcomers in Kaiserslautern
Core City and Nine Local Districts: Where Newcomers Live in Kaiserslautern
Besides the core city, Kaiserslautern has nine local districts: Dansenberg, Einsiedlerhof, Erfenbach, Erlenbach, Erzhütten/Wiesenthalerhof, Hohenecken, Mölschbach, Morlautern and Siegelbach. Most of them became part of the city on 7 June 1969, which made it a city of over 100,000. Hohenecken lies in the middle of the Palatinate Forest below its castle ruins, Siegelbach is home to the zoo, and according to the city the Schlachtenturm tower is Morlautern's landmark.
South of the core city rise the Betzenberg and the Lämmchesberg; in the west, the Vogelweh residential area was built for US soldiers and their families. In the city centre the Lauter flows underground. Where you live determines your bus route, parking zone and carrying distance on moving day – we plan vehicle and team to suit the address.
The city publishes separate pages on politics and statistics for the local districts. According to Wikipedia, many Mennonites live in the Stockborn settlement, which belongs to Erfenbach – an example of how differently the local districts are shaped.

Hikers can start the Palatinate Forest Trail (Pfälzer Waldpfad) here. We do not quote rents ourselves – use the city's new rent index.
What a Move to Kaiserslautern Costs
Whether a 1-room flat (from €349), 2-room flat (from €589), 3-room flat (from €899) or 4-room flat (from €1,324) – we have the right price for every size of flat. For houses and villas we prepare an individual quote, and for long-distance moves we charge €4.15/km. Request your free survey now.
What the price depends on
Besides the volume itself, the distance covered plays a big role – here we calculate from €4.15/km. The floor of the flat and a missing lift also increase the effort. If a parking restriction zone has to be set up, there are additional costs, as there are for booked furniture assembly or a shared load.

Registering in Kaiserslautern: Citizens' Centre in the Town Hall and Registration Services
Under § 17(1) of the Federal Registration Act (Bundesmeldegesetz), you must register within two weeks of moving in. In Kaiserslautern, registration matters are handled by the city's citizens' centre (Bürgercenter) in the town hall, Willy-Brandt-Platz 1. According to the city, this includes registration, deregistration and change of address under the registration law, the registration certificate, the household certificate, information from the population register and information blocks. You reserve an appointment via the city's appointment booking; you can reach the citizens' centre by phone on 0631 365-2538 or by email at [email protected].
The service hours are: Monday to Wednesday 8:00–16:00, Thursday 9:00–18:00, Friday 8:00–12:00. The city points out that admission may end before closing time and that it is particularly busy all day on Mondays and on Thursdays from 16:00, with very long waiting times. So it is better to plan for a Tuesday or Wednesday. The page we checked does not state which documents the city requires; however, the landlord confirmation is provided for under § 19 of the Federal Registration Act, and your landlord must confirm the move-in.
Registration is also a prerequisite for further steps: the city only issues a resident parking permit once you have moved in and registered. You can read how a move to Kaiserslautern is organised in the moving guide for Kaiserslautern.
Resident Parking Permit and Local Districts in Kaiserslautern
Kaiserslautern is divided into local districts. The city's local districts page describes nine: Dansenberg, Einsiedlerhof, Erfenbach, Erlenbach, Erzhütten/Wiesenthalerhof, Hohenecken, Mölschbach, Morlautern and Siegelbach. For each local district the city publishes separate pages on politics and statistics. According to the city, Hohenecken lies in the middle of the Palatinate Forest, and in Morlautern the Schlachtenturm tower is the landmark. Which local district suits you depends on your commute and type of housing. You can find the local overview under Moves in Kaiserslautern.
In designated resident parking zones, residents need a permit. According to the city, the requirements are: you are at least 18 years old, your main residence is in a resident parking zone, the vehicle is registered to you or permanently made available to you, and you have no garage and no parking space available. There is only one permit per resident. You need the signed application, an ID card or passport and the registration certificate part I. You can apply online or after booking an appointment with the road traffic authority, Benzinoring 1. The permit is revocable and does not guarantee a free parking space; businesses and employees in the zone are not eligible. According to the city, false information can lead to revocation and a fine of up to 500 euros. You can sort out parking for moving day via the parking restriction zone.
