Moving to Passau: via Hof and the A93 to the Danube

Removal company Berlin
From the Spree to three rivers: moving to Passau
Almost to Austria
A move from Berlin to Passau takes you almost to the Austrian border: from our base at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit it is around 617 kilometres to the city where the Danube, Inn and Ilz flow together. During a free survey – in your flat or by video – we record volume, floors and carrying routes and then quote a binding fixed price with no hidden costs. The same team takes care of packing, transport and furniture assembly in Passau. The old town lies on a long, narrow peninsula between the Danube and the Inn; we clarify access and parking space there particularly early so that the lorry can stand in front of the building on moving day.
We calculate every move to Passau individually – with furniture assembly, packing of fragile items and, if necessary, storage. Liability is under the German Commercial Code (HGB) (§ 451e: €620 per cubic metre of loading space), and more protection is possible on request. We apply for parking restrictions in Berlin and in Passau. Because the driving time alone is a good eight hours, two drivers drive on one day or we split the move over two days – whether for the start of semester on the Danube or a return to the Spree.

From the Spree to the Danube, Inn and Ilz – and back
Studies, work, family: from Berlin to Passau and back
A move from Berlin to Passau often has to do with the university: Passau has been a university city since 1978, and the university, with focuses such as law, business administration and computer science, has around 10,000 students. Others come for a job, for example at ZF, whose Passau sites in Grubweg, Patriching and Thyrnau together have around 4,000 employees. With a good 53,000 inhabitants Passau is the second-largest city in Lower Bavaria after Landshut. We bring your household goods from districts such as Charlottenburg or Prenzlauer Berg right up to the door in Passau.
The return move from Passau to Berlin is just as common a topic, for example when starting a career in the capital after graduating. Families with new professional plans or returners who miss Berlin's cultural offerings also move in this direction. We plan both directions of the around 617 km on the same fixed-price principle, with a parking restriction at the respective address.
617 km: via Hof and the Upper Palatinate to the Danube
The way to Passau does not go via Nuremberg: from Moabit it goes via the A100, the AVUS and the Berlin Ring onto the A9, past Leipzig and the Hermsdorf interchange to the Bavarian Vogtland junction near Hof. There the lorry changes onto the A72 and after 13 km at the Hochfranken junction onto the A93, which leads around 177 km through the Upper Palatinate past Weiden and Schwandorf to the Regensburg interchange. It drives the last 112 km or so on the A3, past Straubing and the Deggendorf interchange; we reach Passau via the Passau-Nord, Passau-Mitte or Passau-Süd junctions – around 617 kilometres in total.
Lorries over 3.5 t are not allowed to drive faster than 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO), and after 4.5 hours at the wheel at the latest comes a 45-minute break (EU Regulation 561/2006). With a good eight hours of pure driving time we thus arrive at approx. 9 hrs on the road. That is why we decide at the survey whether two drivers drive on one day or the move gets two days. Beyond Passau the A3 continues to the Suben border crossing into Austria – your journey ends before that. Back to Berlin we take the same route.
Arriving in Passau – old town, Innstadt, Hacklberg and more
Passau is the City of Three Rivers: here the Inn and the Ilz flow into the Danube. The old town with St. Stephen's Cathedral, whose organ is regarded as the largest cathedral organ in the world, lies on a long, narrow peninsula between the Danube and the Inn; above the city stands the Veste Oberhaus fortress on the Georgsberg. Besides eight official city districts, since 2013 the city has used 16 citizens' assembly areas – including Altstadt/Innenstadt, Innstadt, Hacklberg, Grubweg, Haidenhof, Heining, Neustift, Hals and Patriching. The rivers also shape everyday life: in the 2013 flood the Passau/Danube gauge reached the historic mark of 12.89 m, with the Ilzstadt hit hardest. We clarify access, floor and parking space at the survey and apply for the parking restriction at the city.
Back in Berlin we drive to every district, whether Kreuzberg, Pankow or Charlottenburg, and apply for the parking restriction via the district office. We set the date according to the tenancy agreement and moving out in Passau. After moving in, you have two weeks in both cities to register with the registration authority.

What influences the price all the way to the Danube
What counts most is the volume – it determines the vehicle and team size. With 617 km via the A9, A93 and A3 the distance plays a big role, as does the question of whether two drivers or two days are needed. On top of that come floor, lift, a parking restriction zone and extras such as furniture assembly. With few belongings a part load helps.
