Removal company Berlin
Your move Berlin – Gießen: across Thuringia to the Lahn
All the way to the Lahn
For the move from Berlin to Gießen we pack in Moabit, drive around 494 km to Central Hesse and unload again on the Lahn. Most of the route is on the A9 and A4; from the Hattenbach junction the A5 follows past Alsfeld and Grünberg to the Reiskirchen junction, where the Gießen ring road connects. By lorry that is approx. 7.5 hrs including the mandatory break. Our guide price is €1,870; what your move costs exactly is set as a fixed price after the survey.
At the free survey – in Berlin or by video – we set the vehicle, team and process. If your flat in Gießen is not yet free, we store the furniture. We come from Berlin and drive right up to the door in Gießen, whether to the town centre, Wieseck or Kleinlinden; we clarify access and floor in advance using your photos. For damage we are liable under the German Commercial Code (§ 451e HGB: €620 per cubic metre of loading space); optional additional insurance is available on request.

What we commit to for the route to the Lahn
Over around 494 km, what counts is what has been clarified before loading day: volume, carrying distances, parking space at both addresses and an honest driving time. That is how we work on the route between Berlin and Gießen – in both directions.
Arrival time in advance
One contact to the Lahn
Fixed price
Parking restriction twice
Storage
Broom-clean handover
Part load for students and singles
At the start of term a small part of the lorry is often enough: a bed, a desk, a few boxes. As a part load these things travel on a trip that is heading via Thuringia to Central Hesse anyway – or from Gießen to Berlin. You only pay for the space used; we give the time window as soon as the trip is fixed.

Your
move to Gießen in the right order
Many people moving to Gießen plan around the semester at the Justus-Liebig-Universität or the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (University of Applied Sciences). We plan backwards from the moving-in day: notice in Berlin, survey, parking restriction at both addresses, loading day – and after moving in, registration in Gießen within two weeks. Part load, furniture assembly or storage can be added on request.

Central Hesse and back: your questions
To Gießen for studies – and later back to Berlin
Gießen is a university town: the Justus-Liebig-Universität bears the name of the chemist who taught here from 1824 to 1852, plus parts of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen. The town is also the seat of the Gießen administrative region. Anyone moving from Berlin to Gießen for studies, a job or family gets packing, dismantling, transport over around 494 km and assembly in the new flat from us – with a fixed price after the survey.
The return move from Gießen to Berlin often follows graduation, a change of job or family reasons. In Berlin many move into period buildings with a back courtyard and side wing – buildings that we as a Berlin company know from everyday work. Parking restriction and furniture assembly are part of it in this direction too.
Via Alsfeld and Grünberg: the last 61 km on the A5
The lorry leaves Moabit via the A100 and the AVUS, takes the Berlin Ring and from the Potsdam interchange drives south on the A9. At the Hermsdorf interchange in Thuringia it takes the A4, which leads past Erfurt and Eisenach into Hesse. Via the Kirchheim and Hattenbach junctions the lorry switches to the A5 and stays on it for 61 km: past Alsfeld, the Ohmtal junction, Homberg (Ohm) and Grünberg to the Reiskirchen junction. Via the Gießen ring road it finally reaches your address – around 494 km in total.
Behind the wheel that is a good six and a half hours, because removal lorries over 3.5 t are capped at 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO). With the 45-minute break that is due after four and a half hours of driving time (EU Regulation 561/2006), we calculate approx. 7.5 hrs. Loading and unloading extend the day; whether two drivers drive or we schedule two days we decide at the survey. The return move to Berlin runs on the same route.
Arriving in Gießen – and back in Berlin
Gießen lies on the Lahn and, with around 88,500 inhabitants, is the seventh-largest city in Hesse. Besides the town centre there are five districts with their own local advisory council: Wieseck, Kleinlinden, Allendorf (Lahn), Rödgen and Lützellinden. The university's Botanical Garden is one of the oldest in Germany. Because many students look for a flat at the start of term, early planning pays off. We come from Berlin, drive right up to your door and assemble the furniture.
Those who move back to Berlin often end up in districts such as Prenzlauer Berg, Charlottenburg or Neukölln. There we plan the carrying route through the courtyard and side wing, with a furniture lift where necessary, and take care of unloading and assembly.
Roughly what a move to the Lahn costs
Student digs or family flat – for the move from Berlin to Gießen and the way from Gießen to Berlin, the price depends first on the household. Initial reference points:
| Household | m³ | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Room or apartment | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| Two rooms | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| Three rooms | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| Four rooms | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| House | from 60 m³ | individual |
For the route of around 494 km we quote a guide price from €1,870, the same for both directions. These are all guide prices – you receive the binding amount after a free survey.
Why two moves to Gießen rarely cost the same
The deciding factor is the volume: a shared-flat room fits into part of the lorry, a four-room flat needs all of it. The distance of around 494 km is the same for everyone, but floor, lift and walking distance are not. Then there are extras such as furniture assembly or a parking restriction. If you have little, a part load is cheaper.
Services for your move to the Lahn

- Part load – travelling along on a trip to Central Hesse
