Moving from Berlin to Krems an der Donau (Austria) – and back

Moving company Berlin
From the Spree to the Wachau: moving Berlin ↔ Krems an der Donau
Destination: edge of the Wachau
We drive to Krems an der Donau from Berlin – Beste Umzug is based at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit; we have no office in Lower Austria. The shortest route runs via the A13 and the A17 into the Czech Republic, via the D8 to Prague and the D3 to South Bohemia, then via Třeboň to the border at Neu-Nagelberg and through the Waldviertel and the Krems valley down to the Danube. With a lorry over 3.5 t we take a different route via Znojmo (Znaim) – more on this below. After the survey you receive a fixed price that includes toll, parking restrictions and assembly – enquiries on 01625978461, also for the way back to Berlin.
We take care of furniture transport, furniture assembly at the new address and packing material for fragile items. We apply for the parking restriction zone in Berlin at the district office and in Krems an der Donau at the responsible road traffic authority, so that the lorry can stop outside the door. We are liable for your belongings under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per cubic metre), with higher cover on request. If you are only taking part of your household goods, a shared load is cheaper. That way the route from the Spree to the Danube becomes predictable.

FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions
To Krems an der Donau and back: a move to the Wachau
Anyone moving from Berlin to Krems an der Donau stays within the EU: no customs papers are needed for furniture and household goods, but Austria's registration requirement applies. Krems lies west of Vienna, where the Große Krems flows into the Danube, on the eastern edge of the Wachau; since 2000 the old town has been part of the Wachau Cultural Landscape UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Campus Krems houses the university and the IMC University of Applied Sciences. For the move, what counts above all is access, parking space and floor at your new address – we clarify this at the survey.
We drive the return move from Krems an der Donau to Berlin in exactly the same way: collection in Krems, the same route in the opposite direction, unloading and assembly in Berlin. Volume, floors, assembly, lorry size and the route determine the price – not the direction of travel. We apply for the parking restrictions at both addresses for you.
The route: around 604 km, Waldviertel or Znojmo
From Berlin the route runs via the A100 and the A113 onto the A13 (around 151 km to Dresden), briefly via the A4 and then via the A17 (44 km) to the Czech border. The D8 leads to Prague, and south of it the I/3 and the D3 continue past Tábor to Veselí nad Lužnicí. On the shortest route, the I/24 follows via Třeboň to the border at Neu-Nagelberg, then it goes through the Waldviertel and on the B37 through the Krems valley to Krems – around 604 km, approx. 9 hrs of lorry time including breaks.
On the B2 between Neu-Nagelberg and Horn, a through-traffic ban for lorries over 3.5 t has applied since 2011. With a large lorry we therefore drive via the D1 to Jihlava, the I/38 to Znojmo (Znaim) and Kleinhaugsdorf, then via the B303, S3 and S5 to Krems – somewhat longer. In Germany, lorries over 3.5 t are limited to 80 km/h (§ 18 (5) StVO), with a 45-minute break after four and a half hours of driving time. Because the driving time comes close to nine hours, we load the day before or drive with two drivers. For the return move to Berlin, everything applies in reverse.
Arriving in Krems: Meldezettel and districts
After moving in to Krems an der Donau, you register your residence within three days – with the registration form (Meldezettel), signed by the person providing your accommodation, and a travel document; online via oesterreich.gv.at with ID Austria or EU Login. The town comprises cadastral municipalities (Katastralgemeinden) such as Krems, Stein, Weinzierl with Lerchenfeld, Rehberg, Egelsee and Gneixendorf; the densely populated district of Mitterau lies largely within the cadastral municipality of Krems. Whether the old town at the Steiner Tor or a new build on the outskirts: we check access, parking space and carrying routes in advance.
On a return move to Berlin, you deregister in Krems within three days before or after moving out and register in Berlin within two weeks at the citizens' office (Bürgeramt). In Berlin we apply for the parking restriction at the district office of your new address, whether in Prenzlauer Berg, Charlottenburg or Köpenick, and coordinate the unloading date with the flat handover.
