New on the Danube: How to Settle In to Krems
The first few weeks
Krems an der Donau is the fifth-largest city in Lower Austria and lies around 70 km west of Vienna, where the Große Krems flows into the Danube – on the eastern edge of the Wachau. The old town is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wachau Cultural Landscape. With the University for Continuing Education Krems (formerly Danube University), the IMC University of Applied Sciences and the Karl Landsteiner University, Krems is also a university town. This guide sorts out the first weeks: the registration form (Meldezettel), flat-hunting, parking, buses and trains, and waste. We handle the transport as a home removal.
We have no branch in Austria: we come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and carry out moves to Krems and back. Within the EU your household goods need no customs declaration. Your belongings are covered under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per m³), with additional insurance on request. Route, tolls and driving time are on the page Moving Berlin – Krems an der Donau. Whether a reserved parking space is needed in front of the new address is something we clarify early with you and the city's citizens' service office.

What We Clarify Before Your Move to Krems
Parking zone, old-town lane, date
We come from Berlin and bring your household goods to Krems. Before moving day we clarify with you whether the new address is in the blue or green parking zone, whether a reserved parking space is needed in the narrow lanes of the old town or in Stein, and when the flat will be handed over. We set the price after the survey (fixed price), and your belongings are covered under the HGB. You submit the registration form to the citizens' service office yourself – we schedule the move-in so that the three-day deadline is easy to meet.

Krems
for newcomers
New in Krems, many questions come up at once: when does the three-day deadline for the registration form start, and do I have to go in person? What else applies to EU citizens? Which parking zone is the new flat in, and where do I find the waste calendar? We have summarised the City of Krems's information below. For the move itself we advise you on schedule, parking in the old town and packing so that everything fits on moving-in day in your new home on the Danube.
