FROM BERLIN-MOABIT

Krems an der Donau guide

Moving to Krems: old town, Stein and vineyards

Living in the Wachau

Unsere Firma comes from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and plans your move to the Wachau at a fixed price after a survey.

Krems an der Donau is the fifth-largest town in Lower Austria and lies 70 km west of Vienna, where the Große Krems river flows into the Danube – on the eastern edge of the Wachau and the southern escarpment of the Waldviertel. As a statutory city (Statutarstadt), Krems is both a municipality and a district. The old town with the Steiner Tor gate and the Stein district are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Wachau Cultural Landscape; opposite, on the right bank of the Danube, lies Mautern. For your home move we clarify access and floor in advance – in the lanes of the old town there is little room for the lorry. Whether you are moving to the Wachau for a job, to study at Campus Krems or to be near family, you will find very different residential areas between the old town, Stein and the outlying localities.

We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 604 km via Dresden and Prague to Krems; with breaks that is about nine hours by lorry, so for larger flats we load the day before. There is no customs duty on your household goods within the EU. After moving in, you register within three days using the registration form (Meldezettel). We state the fixed price after a survey, including for the return journey to Berlin. More on the route in the long-distance moving guide for Krems.

FROM BERLIN

What we handle for your move to Krems

From Berlin to the Wachau

We have no branch in Austria; we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit. That is why we clarify in advance where the vehicle can stop – in the old town and in Stein the lanes are narrow, and according to the town, traffic restrictions are handled by the traffic police department (Straßenpolizei) at the town hall. We pack, carry, transport and reassemble; you take care of the Meldezettel yourself. Our liability for your household goods is €620 per cubic metre under § 451e HGB, and additional insurance is available. If your new flat is not yet free, we store your belongings in Berlin in the meantime and deliver on the agreed date. We state the fixed price after the survey, including for the return journey from Krems to Berlin. More on cross-border moves under International move.

Packing service

We pack carefully in Berlin and load so that whatever you need on the first evening arrives first in Krems – with our packing service.

Office move

Practices, agencies and offices move according to a joint schedule so that work in Krems can resume quickly – with an office move.

Senior moves

Moving later in life needs calm: we pack with you, transport gently and set up the most important rooms first in Krems – with a senior move.

Furniture transport

Valuable furniture is padded individually, secured in the lorry and carried carefully through the stairwell in Krems – with furniture transport.
BEFORE MOVING DAY

We state the fixed price for your move to Krems after the survey, with packing, transport, tolls and assembly as separate items. There are no customs costs within the EU.

You handle registration at your new address yourself (registration form, Meldezettel, within three days) – we give you the arrival day in writing so the deadline is clear.

Within the EU there is no customs duty on your household goods; a simple box list still helps when unloading in Krems and in case of damage.
03

Access sorted

We ask about floor, lift, stairwell and parking space in advance so that enough movers and materials are on hand for the move in Krems.
04

05

Return trip possible

We also plan the move from Krems back to Berlin with a survey or video call, a fixed price and deregistration at your old address in mind.
06

FOR SMALL LOADS

Well planned and reliable

This guide shows which localities belong to Krems, how the Meldezettel works, which parking zones apply and how to get rid of bulky waste before moving in. The information comes from the town of Krems. We do not quote rents, because they depend heavily on location and condition. How the journey from Berlin via Prague works, and why large lorries take a detour via Znojmo, is explained in the long-distance moving guide. If you stay longer than three months, the registration certificate for EU citizens (Anmeldebescheinigung) is added. If the scope does not change, the price stays as stated in the quote.

Planning back from moving-in day

Giving notice in Berlin, packing dates, a parking space and registering with the Meldezettel within three days: with a plan worked back from moving-in day, your home move, senior move or student move to Krems stays manageable – even over around 604 km.

Furniture, boxes and access

With a packing service, careful furniture transport and access sorted in advance, furniture reaches older buildings and narrow streets in Krems without long carrying distances – whether in the old town, Stein or Lerchenfeld.

Costs and special cases

Costs are determined by volume, floor and the route of around 604 km; for small loads a part load lowers the price. We build storage or an office move to Krems into the fixed price.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about moving to Krems an der Donau

Costs, localities, Meldezettel, parking, bulky waste and liability – answered briefly.
The costs depend on the size of the flat, floors, access and additional services such as packing or assembly, plus around 604 km from Berlin and tolls in Czechia and Austria. You will find our guide prices by number of rooms above. After a free survey we state a fixed price that shows every item separately.

Localities and districts of Krems

The municipal area comprises twelve localities, including Krems itself, Stein an der Donau, Egelsee, Gneixendorf, Hollenburg, Rehberg and Weinzierl. The historic old town, with the Steiner Tor as its landmark, and the Stein district lie directly on the Danube and are part of the Wachau UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mitterau is more densely populated; Lerchenfeld was built between the wars and is also an industrial location. For a move, the areas differ greatly: in the old town and Stein the lanes are narrow and parking spaces scarce, while the outlying localities often have detached houses with driveways. Which area suits you depends on your commute, schools and budget – we plan the transport to match the address. Older buildings in the old town often lack lifts and have narrow stairs, so we dismantle large wardrobes beforehand. In Mitterau and Lerchenfeld the routes are usually simpler; in Egelsee or Gneixendorf it depends on access to the property.

Work, study and leisure in Krems

Krems is a town of trade, culture, schools and universities. Campus Krems is home to the University for Continuing Education and the IMC University of Applied Sciences, alongside the regional hospital (Landesklinikum), retail, wine-growing and tourism. We do not quote specific rents, because they depend heavily on location and condition. Leisure options include the Kunstmeile arts quarter, the Danube cycle path and the vineyards of the Wachau. Vienna is 70 km away and easy to reach by train and expressway. It is best to plan giving notice in Berlin, the Meldezettel within three days and, if applicable, the registration certificate after three months backwards from moving-in day. If you search early and are flexible about location, you will find a flat more easily; only sign the tenancy agreement once the moving date can be planned. If the flat is not yet free, we store your furniture in Berlin and deliver on the agreed date.

Bulky waste and parking in Krems an der Donau: the town's rules

Before the move it is worth checking the waste rules. According to the town of Krems, connected households can drop off bulky waste free of charge at the recycling centre (Altstoffsammelzentrum), Rechte Kremszeile 64. Alternatively, the waste management service (AWA) collects bulky waste free of charge once a year per property.

  • Quantity: typical household amounts – according to the town, roughly the load of a flatbed vehicle.
  • Placement: at the property boundary; book an appointment on 02732/801-653.
  • Not included: Household liquidations and clearances are not covered by the free collection. For these we offer a clearance service.

For parking in the old town, the town names a short-stay parking zone (Kurzparkzone) that applies on weekdays, Monday to Friday from 7 am to 6 pm, and on Saturdays from 7 am to 12 noon. There are free 30-minute spaces there, for example in Spitalgasse (corner of Hafnerplatz). Paid zones apply Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm and on Saturdays from 8 am to 12 noon. In the Blue Zone it costs 0.50 euros per 30 minutes, for a maximum of three hours. In the Green Zone you pay 0.50 euros per hour, and a day ticket costs 4 euros. Residents can apply for a residents' parking permit under certain conditions. For questions about collection, you can reach the AWA on 02732/801 652 or at [email protected].
