Moving from Berlin to Homburg: 695 km to the Saarpfalz – and back

Your move to Homburg: across the Rhine to the Saarpfalz
To the Saarpfalz
For a move from Berlin to Homburg we drive around 695 kilometres from Stromstraße 21 in Moabit to the district town of the Saarpfalz district. We set the fixed price after a free survey, in your flat or by video – with volume, floors and carrying routes at both addresses. Because the route is longer than one day's driving time, the quote also states whether two drivers take turns or we stay overnight on the way. We secure furniture, electrical appliances and boxes with blankets and straps.
The route crosses the Rhine at Mainz and leads via the A63 through the North Palatinate Uplands to Kaiserslautern. There the A6 begins, leading past Ramstein and Landstuhl and at Waldmohr into Saarland and to Homburg. Our liability for damage is governed by the HGB; optional additional insurance is available on request. On request we take care of packing, assembly and storage if the new flat is not yet free. We plan the return move from Homburg to Berlin in exactly the same way.

Why we plan Homburg with two drivers
From Moabit to the A6 – and back
As a moving company from Berlin we drive your household goods right to your front door in Homburg, whether the city centre, Erbach or Einöd. A good nine hours of pure driving time – EU law does not allow a single driver that in one day. We therefore use two drivers or stay overnight, and the fixed price is set after the survey, without later renegotiation. Liability is under the HGB; more cover is available via optional additional insurance. The move to Homburg and the return move to Berlin run with the same contact people.

Move
planning Berlin ↔ Homburg
A move over 695 kilometres requires more planning than a move within Berlin: two drivers or two days, the 45-minute break after four and a half hours of driving time, loading and unloading at both ends. We clarify with you the parking restriction zones in Berlin and Homburg, packing for the long drive as well as part load, storage or special transport. After moving in, you register with the city of Homburg within two weeks. That way your move between Berlin and Homburg is fully planned.

The Saarpfalz and Berlin: your questions
Why Berliners move to Homburg – and back again
A move from Berlin to Homburg often has to do with Saarland University Hospital: Homburg is home to the Faculty of Medicine of Saarland University and the university hospital, one of the city's largest employers. Then there are three Bosch plants and the Karlsberg brewery. With a good 43,000 inhabitants, the university town is the third-largest city in Saarland and the district town of the Saarpfalz district. We handle the entire organisation, from packing in Berlin to assembling furniture in Homburg.
The return move from Homburg to Berlin often comes at the end of specialist medical training, studies or a fixed-term contract. Others move back because family and friends live in Berlin. We plan both directions with the same survey, the same fixed-price model and the same driver planning – only the loading and unloading locations swap.
The route: 695 km across the Rhine, the Palatinate and the A6
From Moabit the route goes via the A100, A115 and the Berlin ring road onto the A9 to the Hermsdorfer Kreuz, then via the A4 through Thuringia and on the A5 to the Frankfurter Kreuz. Via short stretches of the A3, A67 and A60 the lorry reaches Mainz, crosses the Rhine on the Weisenau Bridge and takes the A63 at the Mainz-Süd interchange, past Alzey and the Donnersberg to the Kaiserslautern junction. It drives the last kilometres on the A6: around Ramstein, over the Landstuhl-West interchange and at Waldmohr into Saarland – around 695 kilometres in total.
At a maximum of 80 km/h for lorries over 3.5 t, that is a good nine hours of pure driving time, more than EU Regulation 561/2006 allows per day. We calculate approx. 11 h of driving with breaks and plan two drivers or an overnight stay; we set this during the survey. The same applies to the route from Homburg to Berlin.
City centre, Blies valley, Schlossberg: arriving in Homburg
Homburg consists of the city centre and nine districts: Beeden, Bruchhof-Sanddorf, Einöd, Erbach, Jägersburg, Kirrberg, Reiskirchen, Schwarzenbach and Wörschweiler. The western parts lie in the valley of the Blies – Homburg is not on the Saar. The addition “(Saar)” stands for the former Saar territory and is not an official part of the city's name; until then the city was called Homburg (Pfalz). Above the old town lies the Schlossberg with the ruins of the Hohenburg and the Schlossberg caves. Where the lorry can stop outside your front door is checked during the survey.
Below the Schlossberg lie the Schlossberg caves, the largest red sandstone caves in Europe; the Faculty of Medicine works partly in the Art Nouveau building of the former mental hospital. If you later feel drawn back to Berlin, we submit the parking restriction application to the district office of your new address and fix the date as soon as the tenancy agreement is signed.
Costs for the move to the university town
From the apartment at the university hospital to the house in Kirrberg: for a move from Berlin to Homburg and from Homburg to Berlin, it is above all the volume that determines the price. A first orientation:
| Type of home | Amount | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| Apartment (1 room) | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| Flat with 2 rooms | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| Flat with 3 rooms | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| Flat with 4 rooms | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| House | from 60 m³ | quote after a survey |
For the roughly 695 km via the A9, A4, A5, A63 and A6 we give a guide price from €2,650 in both directions. It becomes binding after a free survey.
Volume, floors, drivers: how the price for Homburg comes about
The volume weighs most heavily because it determines the lorry size and team strength. With a long-distance move Berlin–Homburg come the roughly 695 km and the decision between two drivers and two days. After that follow floors, lift, carrying routes and extras such as furniture assembly or a parking restriction zone. If you take little with you, a part load is cheaper.
Building blocks for the move to the Saarpfalz
We take on the move to Homburg in full or in part:

- Company move – practice or office with an inventory list
- Furniture transport – grand piano, wall unit, single items
- Part load – a ride along for small quantities
- Move with assembly – dismantling in Berlin, assembly in the Saarpfalz
- Clearance – clearing and disposal beforehand
