Moving to Homburg (Saar): Costs Process & Districts

From Berlin to Homburg
Moving to Homburg (Saar): university town on the Palatinate Forest
Planning from Berlin
A move to Homburg takes you to the county town of the Saarpfalz district and the third-largest town in Saarland, in the east of the state on the foothills of the Palatinate Forest. Homburg is known as the home of the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital of Saarland University, for the Schlossberg caves – the largest coloured sandstone caves in Europe – and for the Roman Museum in Schwarzenacker. The town consists of the town centre and nine districts. For your private move we clarify access, floor and parking space in advance.
The route is easy to plan: around 695 km via the A9, A4, A5 and A63, about 11 hours by lorry including a break. We load in Berlin, drive to Homburg and reassemble everything there – usually over two days, depending on volume. In Homburg you register within two weeks of moving in (§ 17 BMG); your landlord issues the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). You receive the fixed price after the survey; background on the route can be found under Moving Berlin – Homburg.

Moving to Homburg: arrange a survey
695 km, one contact person, one fixed price
For your move to Homburg, one call on 01625978461 is enough: we survey your flat by video or on site, ask about the floor and access at the destination and calculate the 695 km route. You then receive a written fixed price in which parking restriction, assembly or storage are listed as separate items.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How your move to Homburg works with us
695 km, one team, one fixed price
Our team sets off from Stromstraße 21 in Berlin – we have no base in Homburg itself. That is why we plan all the more carefully beforehand: floor, lift, carrying route and parking space, for example for a flat in the town centre or a house in Kirrberg. In Homburg, the road traffic office (Straßenverkehrsstelle) in the Office for Law and Order is responsible for parking restrictions; we coordinate the application with you in good time. After the survey you receive a fixed price; liability for your belongings is governed by § 451e HGB (€620 per cubic metre). Details of the private move can be found here.

Your
move, our craft
A move to Homburg raises many questions: which district suits you, who is responsible for the parking restriction, how long does bulky waste collection take and when is the citizens' office open? This guide presents the town centre and the nine districts from Beeden to Wörschweiler and sums up what the town of Homburg says about these topics. On top of that comes the long journey of around 695 km from Berlin. That way you are prepared before the first box is packed.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Homburg
Homburg's town centre and nine districts
Homburg consists of the town centre and nine districts: Beeden, Bruchhof-Sanddorf, Einöd, Erbach, Jägersburg, Kirrberg, Reiskirchen, Schwarzenbach and Wörschweiler. Einöd includes Ingweiler and Schwarzenacker with the Roman Museum, and Jägersburg includes Altbreitenfelderhof and Websweiler. The western districts lie in the Blies valley.
In the town centre around the market square and the pedestrian zone, which was created during the old town renovation from 1978 onwards, parking spaces are scarce. In the districts, detached and terraced houses predominate. For the move, the specific address therefore matters: we clarify floor, stairwell and space for the lorry during the survey. Our private move service adapts to this.
University hospital, caves and industry
Homburg is a university town: an institute founded in 1947 gave rise to Saarland University in 1948; today the Faculty of Medicine and the Saarland University Hospital are located here. The town is also an industrial location, with plants belonging to Schaeffler, Michelin and the Karlsberg brewery, among others. We do not quote specific rents – they depend heavily on location and condition.
Worth seeing are the Schlossberg caves, with domed halls and kilometres of passages on three levels, and the Roman Museum in Schwarzenacker. Homburg is connected to the motorway network via the A6 and the A8. If you are arriving at the start of a semester or a new job, you should set the moving day early so that the parking restriction and registration fit into the first two weeks. Long routes from Berlin can be found under Long-distance moves.
Moving costs at a glance
What does a move really cost? Basically, the costs depend on the size of the flat: we move a 1-room flat from as little as €359, for 2 rooms prices start at €579, for 3 rooms from €899 and for 4 rooms from €1,269. For houses or villas we always prepare an individual quote. If you are moving further away, long-distance moves cost from €3.80 per kilometre. It is best to arrange a free survey straight away to receive an exact quote.

Parking restriction and traffic order in Homburg (Saar)
In Homburg (Saar), the road traffic office (Straßenverkehrsstelle) is responsible for traffic orders. It is part of the administrative police department in the Office for Law and Order and is located at Forum 5, 66424 Homburg. According to the town of Homburg, you can reach it on 06841 101 135 or by e-mail at [email protected]. The town gives the opening hours of the Office for Law and Order as Monday to Thursday 8:30 am to 12:00 noon and 2:00 to 3:45 pm, and Friday 8:30 am to 12:00 noon.
The town's Formular Center (forms centre) has the application for a traffic order under § 45 StVO or an exemption permit under § 46 StVO. The town's website has no separate page with lead times and fees for removal parking restrictions. Therefore, clarify the deadline and costs by telephone before you set the moving date.
For registration, the nationwide two-week deadline after moving in also applies in Homburg. You can reach the citizens' advice service on 06841 101 318 or by e-mail at [email protected]; according to the town, the citizens' office (Bürgerbüro) is open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 7:45 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 to 4:00 pm, on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:45 am to 1:00 pm and on Thursdays from 7:45 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 to 6:00 pm. The town provides the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) as a form. How we prepare a parking restriction zone for your moving day is explained on the linked service page.
Municipal wards and bulky waste in Homburg (Saar): planning around the move
The town of Homburg is divided into ten municipal wards: Einöd (with Schwarzenacker and Ingweiler), Jägersburg, Kirrberg and Wörschweiler and, since 2023, Beeden, Bruchhof-Sanddorf, Erbach, Homburg-Mitte, Reiskirchen and Schwarzenbach. When moving to one of these wards, check in advance what access to the new address looks like so that the lorry can approach safely. Especially in wards with their own village centres, it is worth taking a look on site before the moving date is fixed, and asking where the removal van and helpers can stop.
If you want to get rid of bulky waste when moving, you need to plan early in Homburg: according to the town, bulky waste collection is by appointment only, and depending on demand there can be four to six weeks between booking and collection. Depending on their residual waste bins, owners have two to eight free collections per year of up to 4 m³ each; tenants can use this allowance with a power of attorney from the owner. A chargeable collection (maximum 8 m³) costs €15 per 4 m³ or part thereof. If you deliver it yourself, you pay €2 per cubic metre or part thereof at the EVS recycling centre Am Zunderbaum, up to a maximum of 2 m³ per day.
If larger quantities arise, we take on the house clearance or organise disposal for the moving date. Background on the town can be found in the guide to living in Homburg.
