From Moabit to the White Elster: moving to Gera

To the White Elster

Unsere Firma From Berlin through Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony to Thuringia – planned with the real lorry driving time.

For a move from Berlin to Gera the lorry leaves our base at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit via the city ring, the AVUS and the Berlin Ring to the Potsdam interchange and then runs a long way south on the A9 – through Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt, briefly through Saxony and past the Schkeuditz interchange. In the south of Saxony-Anhalt it leaves the motorway; the last stretch into Thuringia follows federal roads into the valley of the White Elster. Altogether that is around 241 km, approx. 3 hrs driving time by removal lorry. At the survey – in Berlin or by video – we clarify volume, floors and access at your new address, whether in Debschwitz, Bieblach or Langenberg. This gives your fixed price.

With the fixed price after the survey you know what the move costs before it happens; traffic jams on the A9 change nothing. For your household goods we are liable under the German Commercial Code (§ 451e HGB: €620 per cubic metre of loading space required); for valuables such as a piano or art we agree additional protection on request. We come from Berlin and drive right up to the door in Gera – also for a move from Gera to Berlin. We apply for parking restriction zones (Halteverbotszonen) at both addresses; furniture assembly and packing service can be booked as needed. Call us on 01625978461 and arrange your survey appointment.

MAXIMUM CARE

Around three hours by lorry to Gera

Your long-distance moving partner in both directions

We come from Berlin-Moabit and drive right up to the door in Gera. In Lusan, the most populous district with its prefabricated housing estate from the 1970s, the questions are often about the lift, corridors and parking in front of the block; in Untermhaus or the city centre it is more about street width and the stairwell. At approx. 3 hrs lorry driving time, the route stays below the 4.5 hours of driving time after which a break would be mandatory. Whether loading, driving and unloading fit into one day or we work with more helpers is decided at the survey – with a fixed price and liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB).

Packing service

If you have no time to pack, book our packing service: we pack in Berlin and unpack in Gera, materials included.

We strap heavy wardrobes and fragile pieces down individually for the long A9 stretch; the furniture transport ends at the parking spot in Gera.
MOVING WITH CLEAR AGREEMENTS

What makes the move to Gera easy to plan

Reliable moving service

Our team is on time in Berlin, loads in a fixed order and knows before departure where the lorry will stop in Gera.
02

Careful handling

Furniture and boxes stay in the same vehicle and in the same hands from loading in Berlin to unloading in Gera.
03

Clear communication

Structured move planning

We apply for the parking restriction in Berlin at the road traffic authority of the district office and in Gera at the responsible road traffic authority.
05

Flexible support

If the flat in Gera is not yet free, we store your furniture in the meantime and bring it on the handover date.
06

FAQ on long-distance moves in both directions

Questions about the A9, costs and process – Berlin to Gera and back.
As a guide price for the around 241 km we quote from approx. €980. The exact price depends on the moving volume, floors, carrying distances and extra services. After a free survey you receive a binding fixed-price quote that no longer changes on moving day – no matter how busy the A9 is that day.

Why Gera – and why some move back to Berlin

With around 95,000 inhabitants, Gera is the third-largest city in Thuringia after Erfurt and Jena. It lies in the valley of the White Elster and calls itself the Otto Dix town: the painter was born in Untermhaus in 1891, and his birthplace has been a museum since 1991. In 2007 Gera hosted the Federal Garden Show (Bundesgartenschau) together with Ronneburg, and the Hofwiesenpark on the Elster was redesigned for it. People who move from Berlin to Gera often do so for a new job, for family in eastern Thuringia or to have more space with children. We bring the household goods from the Berlin flat to the new one in Gera.

The move from Gera to Berlin often has professional reasons – a job in the capital, studies at one of the Berlin universities – or the wish to live closer to children and grandchildren. The same applies in this direction as on the way there: a survey in Gera, a fixed price, liability under the German Commercial Code and a team right up to the new door in Berlin.

241 km to Gera: A9, federal road, driving time

From Stromstraße 21 to Gera it is around 241 kilometres. The lorry takes the A100, A115 and the Berlin Ring to the Potsdam interchange and then the A9 south, past Dessau and the Schkeuditz interchange. In the south of Saxony-Anhalt it leaves the motorway; the last stretch to Gera follows federal roads. Removal lorries over 3.5 t drive at most 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO), so we plan approx. 3 hrs driving time and not the shorter car time. That is below the 4.5 hours of driving time after which EU Regulation 561/2006 requires a 45-minute break; in case of traffic jams we still plan it in.

On moving day we load in Berlin in a fixed order, secure wardrobes and boxes with straps and blankets and drive straight to Gera. There we carry everything into the flat and reassemble the furniture on request. One day is usually enough for a normal flat; for large households we decide at the survey whether we work with more helpers or over two days.

Arriving in Gera: districts and access

Gera has very different districts. Lusan, with its prefabricated housing estate from the 1970s, is the most populous; Bieblach was mostly built in the 1950s and 1960s, Bieblach-Ost in the 1980s. Untermhaus lies north-west of the main station near the former princely residence, and Debschwitz stretches south along Wiesestraße. For the move we clarify access, parking space and floor at the new address; we apply for the parking restriction zone at the responsible road traffic authority in Gera.

If you are moving from Gera back to Berlin, you should start looking for a flat early – in the inner-city districts supply is scarce and competition is high. In neighbourhoods with little parking space a parking restriction zone is almost always needed; we apply for it at the district office and coordinate the moving day with your key handover.
