Heidelberg on the Neckar: 629 km via Erfurt and Frankfurt instead of Nuremberg

Removal company Berlin
Berlin – Heidelberg via the A4 and A5
All the way to the Neckar
A move from Berlin to Heidelberg leads from our base at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit around 629 kilometres to the south-west – to the Neckar, where it leaves the Odenwald and enters the Rhine plain. We set the fixed price after a free survey, in your flat or by video; kilometres, volume, floor and carrying distances are then already in the quote. Whether a family flat from Prenzlauer Berg or a room for studying on the Neckar – we pack, load, drive and reassemble at the destination.
The route differs from the one to Stuttgart: instead of driving to Nuremberg, the lorry leaves the A9 as early as the Hermsdorf interchange, takes the A4 past Jena, Erfurt and Eisenach and switches to the A5 near Bad Hersfeld towards Frankfurt and Darmstadt. We are liable for damage under the German Commercial Code (HGB); optional additional insurance is available on request. For old-town lanes and new buildings in the Bahnstadt, we clarify access beforehand – for the move there as well as for the return move from Heidelberg to Berlin.

Planning
Berlin – Heidelberg
For your move Berlin-Heidelberg, we take care of everything beyond the drive: dismantling and reassembling furniture, sturdy packing for the long route and, on request, storage if the new flat is not yet free. We secure a piano, pictures or delicate technology separately for approx. 9 hrs of driving time including a break. For a few items a part load is often enough. And because the route is close to the driving time limit, we plan the drivers right away.

Route, old town and the way back
From Berlin to the university city on the Neckar – and back
A move from Berlin to Heidelberg often has to do with studies or research: Heidelberg University, founded in 1386 by Ruprecht I, is the oldest university in Germany. With around 156,000 inhabitants, Heidelberg is the fifth-largest city in Baden-Württemberg and the seat of the Rhein-Neckar district. The castle ruins rise above the old town, and to the south the Königstuhl borders the city. We take care of transporting your household goods over the roughly 629 kilometres – packed, secured and assembled on the agreed date.
In the same way we run the return move from Heidelberg to Berlin: after a doctorate, for a new job in the capital or back to family and friends. Berlin is our home; period buildings with side wings, stairwells without a lift and parking restrictions via the district office are part of our everyday work. We coordinate notice periods and handover dates at both ends.
629 km: Hermsdorf interchange, Kirchheim junction, A5
From Moabit, the lorry gets onto the A9 via the city motorway, the AVUS and the Ring – but only as far as the Hermsdorf interchange in Thuringia. From there the A4 leads west past Jena, Erfurt and Eisenach to the Kirchheim junction in northern Hesse. Shortly afterwards, at the Hattenbach junction, the A5 begins: around 200 km past Giessen, via the Frankfurt and Darmstadt interchanges and along the Bergstraße to the Heidelberg interchange, from where the route goes into the city. Around 629 km in total.
A lorry over 3.5 t may not drive faster than 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO); after four and a half hours of driving at the latest, a 45-minute break is mandatory (EU Regulation 561/2006). That gives approx. 9 hrs of driving. Together with loading in Berlin and unloading in Heidelberg, we use two drivers or split it over two days. The same applies in the opposite direction.
Old town, Neuenheim, Bahnstadt: arriving in Heidelberg
Heidelberg is divided into 15 districts. Between the Neckar and the Königstuhl lies the Altstadt (old town) with narrow lanes, where we plan parking space and carrying distance particularly carefully; on the north bank lie Neuenheim and Handschuhsheim. The youngest district is the Bahnstadt south-west of the main station, the 15th district since 2011, built on the site of the former goods station. Other residential areas include Weststadt, Bergheim, Rohrbach, Kirchheim and Ziegelhausen. We come from Berlin and drive right to your door; you should start looking for a flat early.
For the return move to Berlin we plan the counterpart: parking restriction via the district office's road traffic authority, registration at the Bürgeramt within two weeks. We do not quote specific rents – they change constantly; current figures can be found in the Heidelberg and Berlin rent indexes. We coordinate moving out and moving in so that, as far as possible, no interim storage is needed.
Guide prices for the route to the Neckar
Cubic metres matter more than kilometres. The table gives a rough idea of where flat sizes start – for the move to Heidelberg and for the way back to Berlin:
| Flat size | Volume | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| 1-room flat | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| 2-room flat | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| 3-room flat | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| 4-room flat | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| House / villa | from 60 m³ | individual quote |
We put the drive itself over around 629 km via the A4 and A5 at from €2,290, the same in both directions. We include long carrying distances in the old town openly in the quote. The amount becomes fixed after a free survey.
What determines the price to Heidelberg
First comes the volume. Then the distance of around 629 km, calculated using a price per kilometre. In Heidelberg, access also plays a role: an old-town house without a lift, the pedestrian zone, a hillside location in Ziegelhausen. Extras such as furniture assembly or a parking restriction are listed individually in the quote. With little luggage, a part load helps.
What we take care of between the Spree and the Neckar
For Berlin – Heidelberg, choose from:
- Private move – from an old-town house to a Bahnstadt flat
- Company move – laboratory, practice or office at the weekend
- Furniture transport – individual pieces padded
- Part load – space on a tour via the A5
- Move with assembly – carried dismantled, fully reassembled
- House clearance – the ballast stays in Berlin
Neighbouring destination on the Rhine and Neckar
