State capital, court, universities: reasons for Erfurt
A move from Berlin to Erfurt is often work-related: Erfurt has been the state capital of Thuringia since 1991, the Federal Labour Court has sat on the grounds of the Petersberg Citadel since 1999, and the children's channel KiKA is based here. On top of that there is the University of Erfurt, re-founded in 1994, and the university of applied sciences. Anyone coming from Berlin moves to the largest city in Thuringia – with an old town where the cathedral and the Severikirche shape the Domplatz.
The move from Erfurt to Berlin usually has other reasons: a university place, a job in the capital, family or a partner. For us, the direction changes little – survey, fixed price and team are the same; only the loading and unloading locations swap places. We choose the vehicle size and packing to suit your home, whether a room in a shared flat or a house.
From the Potsdam interchange to Erfurt-Ost: the lorry's route
From Stromstraße 21 to Erfurt it is around 301 kilometres. The lorry takes the A100 and AVUS (A115) to the Berlin ring road (A10), switches to the A9 at the Potsdam interchange and stays on it over the Elbe bridge at Vockerode and through the Schkeuditzer Kreuz to the Hermsdorfer Kreuz. That is where the final stretch begins: 54 km westwards on the A4, through the Jagdberg tunnel near Jena and past Weimar to the Erfurt-Ost junction. Removal lorries over 3.5 t may drive at most 80 km/h on the motorway (§ 18 (5) StVO) – hence approx. 4 hrs of driving by lorry, on paper just under the 4.5 hours after which EU Regulation 561/2006 requires a 45-minute break.
On moving day we load in Berlin in the morning, secure everything for the motorway and unload in Erfurt; on request we assemble the furniture straight away. Whether that can be done in one day for your volume is decided at the survey.
Arriving in Erfurt: inner suburbs and the south-east
Erfurt has 53 districts. Many period flats are in the inner suburbs around the old town – in the Andreasvorstadt, the Brühlervorstadt, the Löbervorstadt or the Krämpfervorstadt – while Herrenberg, Melchendorf and Wiesenhügel lie in the south-east. In the old town around the Domplatz and the Krämerbrücke – according to Wikipedia the longest bridge in Europe continuously lined with houses – the lanes are narrow. We check access and parking in advance and apply for the parking restriction zone at the responsible road traffic authority.
When moving back to Berlin, parking space is often the tightest point, especially in inner-city neighbourhoods such as Prenzlauer Berg or Friedrichshain. We apply for the parking restriction zone at the district office so that the lorry stands right outside the building after around four hours on the road.
