Moving to Baselbiet: from Berlin to Liestal on the Ergolz

Removal company Berlin
Through Basel into the Ergolz valley: moving Berlin ↔ Liestal
Move without stress
Liestal has been the capital of the canton of Basel-Landschaft since 1832 and lies in a Jura valley on the Ergolz, which the Frenke and Orisbach flow into here. For the move from Berlin to Liestal this means something special: almost the entire route runs through Germany, yet you cross a customs border and your household goods are imported as household removal goods (Übersiedlungsgut). Beste Umzug Unternehmen comes from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21); at the survey we estimate the cubic metres, put together the inventory list with you and set the fixed price in writing.
Packing, furniture assembly or piano transport can be added. 881 km and approx. 13 hrs by lorry with breaks are more than EU Regulation 561/2006 allows a single driver in one day – so we deploy two drivers or stay overnight before Weil am Rhein. We schedule clearance of the household removal goods on a working day; the LSVA heavy vehicle fee only applies for the few Swiss kilometres through Basel. Liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), § 451e; the same for the return move from Liestal to Berlin.

Long approach, short Switzerland: Berlin ↔ Liestal
From the banks of the Spree to Baselbiet and back
Of the 881 kilometres to Liestal, only about a dozen run on Swiss soil: Switzerland only begins where the A5 ends at the joint customs facility at Weil am Rhein, then the route continues via Basel's A2 and Frenkendorf into the Ergolz valley. The border step is short, the preparation is not: the inventory list, form 18.44 and a tenancy agreement as proof of residence must be complete on departure. We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21), go through the papers with you and drive right to your door. Fixed price after a survey, liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) – also for the return move to Berlin.

Baselbiet, customs, residents' registration
Close to Germany, still a customs border: household goods to Liestal
Basel and the German border are right next door, but in customs terms Liestal is abroad: Switzerland is not part of the EU customs union. Your furniture, books and kitchen appliances therefore enter as household removal goods – free of charge, provided they have already been in your possession and use for half a year and stay in Baselbiet. Customs expects the signed form 18.44, an inventory with all larger items on separate lines and proof of the new residence, such as the tenancy agreement. The Liestal registration does not yet have to be in place for this; it follows after moving in. Clearance takes place at the customs facility during the opening hours for commercial goods, on working days.
For the return move from Liestal to Berlin, Swiss export sees your list with both addresses; in Germany you declare the removal goods and pay nothing if you have lived beyond the EU border for at least twelve months (Regulation (EC) 1186/2009). The fixed price is available in both directions.
The 881 km: A9, A4, A5 – then 12 km of Basel's A2 and the Ergolz valley
From Moabit we drive via the AVUS and the Berlin ring road onto the A9 to the Hermsdorfer Kreuz, on the A4 west past Erfurt and Eisenach and from the Kirchheim interchange on the A5 through Hesse and Baden to Weil am Rhein, where it ends at the joint customs facility. In Switzerland only around 12 km of the A2 follow through Basel to Pratteln, then the route continues via Frenkendorf and the Rheinstrasse into Liestal's old town. Altogether 881 km, approx. 13 hrs by lorry with breaks.
Lorries over 3.5 t may drive at 80 km/h on German motorways (§ 18 (5) StVO); after 4.5 hours of driving time a 45-minute break is mandatory. Two drivers taking turns bring the load to the border in one go; alternatively we stay overnight before it and have clearance done on the next working day. In Switzerland a driving ban for lorries applies between 10 pm and 5 am.
Törli, Rathausstrasse, residents' registration: arriving in Liestal
The landmark of the old town is the upper gate, the Törli; from the station on the Hauenstein line direct trains run to Basel, Zurich, Bern and Lucerne, and the Waldenburgerbahn also starts here. The Rathausstrasse is open for deliveries Monday to Friday from 5 am to 11 am and on Saturdays from 5 am to 8 am; for other times or streets with a driving ban we apply to the security department for an access permit, at least two days in advance. After moving in you register within 14 days with the residents' registration office (Einwohnerkontrolle) – at the counter, or by email with the documents from the checklist; the registration itself is free of charge.
For the way back: deregistration with the residents' registration office, then in Berlin two weeks for the registration office (Bürgeramt) including the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung); we apply for the parking restriction zone outside the new building via the district office.
