Moving to Nuremberg: 370 km on the A9 to below the Imperial Castle

Removal company Berlin
One motorway, five states: your move to Nuremberg
From the Spree to the Pegnitz
Hardly any long-distance route is so straightforward: after the AVUS and the Berlin ring road the lorry reaches the A9 at the Potsdam interchange and stays on it for around 370 km – through Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia into Bavaria. Only at the Nuremberg interchange does it switch to the A3 for a few kilometres and roll into the city. From Stromstraße 21 that adds up to around 436 km, approx. 6.5 hrs with the removal lorry including the break. As a guide price we quote from €1,810, with the binding fixed price after a survey. Anyone moving from Nuremberg to Berlin takes the same motorway northwards.
An old building in St. Johannis, a flat in Gostenhof or a house in Mögeldorf – before we name a price we look at both addresses, in person or by video call: how many household goods, which floor, how far from the building to the loading edge? Lorry, crew and departure time for the long A9 drive depend on that. We apply for parking restrictions in Berlin and Nuremberg and plan a piano or furniture lift if needed. Liability is under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre of cargo space; for valuables, optional additional insurance is available on request. You have the fixed price before moving day.

How we plan the A9 to Nuremberg
One crew, one motorway, both directions
According to the Bavarian State Office for Statistics, Nuremberg has 531,159 inhabitants, making it the second-largest city in Bavaria. We are based in Berlin, at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit, and bring your household goods from there to the Pegnitz. The lorry is on the road for around 6.5 hrs over the 436 km; that includes the 45-minute break required after 4.5 hours behind the wheel at the latest. Whether moving day is enough for loading and unloading or we schedule two drivers or two days is settled after the survey – together with the fixed price and liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB).

A9 there, A9 back – the essentials
Why people move to Nuremberg – and back to Berlin
According to Wikipedia, Nuremberg is the second-largest city in Bavaria and the largest in Franconia. A move from Berlin to Nuremberg often has professional reasons: electrical engineering and mechanical engineering have a long history in the city, the Nuremberg trade fair attracts trade visitors, and two major federal authorities are based here – the Federal Employment Agency and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. Anyone coming from central Berlin moves to a city whose old town lies beneath the Imperial Castle, with the Pegnitz flowing through it.
In the other direction, the way from Nuremberg to Berlin often leads to a new job, to a Berlin university or back to family and friends. By then you already know the process: survey on the Pegnitz, fixed price, parking restrictions at both addresses and one crew right into the Berlin flat.
436 km on the A9: route, break and process
From Stromstraße 21 to Nuremberg the route calculation comes to around 436 kilometres. Via the A100, the AVUS (A115) and a short stretch of the Berlin ring road (A10) the route leads to the Potsdam interchange, where the A9 begins. It runs past the Schkeuditz interchange near Leipzig and the Hermsdorf interchange, over the Saale bridge near Hirschberg into Bavaria and along past the Bayreuth/Kulmbach interchange to the Nuremberg interchange – around 370 km on the same motorway. The lorry covers the last 5 km or so on the A3. For vehicles over 3.5 t the limit on the motorway is 80 km/h (§ 18 (5) StVO), and after 4.5 hours of driving time EU Regulation 561/2006 requires a 45-minute break. Together that comes to approx. 6.5 hrs of driving.
Before that comes loading in Berlin, afterwards unloading in Nuremberg – a long day. Whether it is enough or two drivers or two days make more sense, we decide after the survey. Anyone moving from Nuremberg to Berlin takes the same A9 in the opposite direction.
Arriving in Nuremberg – or back in Berlin
Nuremberg's districts differ greatly: St. Johannis and Gostenhof lie close to the old town, Mögeldorf and Zerzabelshof in the east, Langwasser in the south-east – laid out from 1957 and at the time the largest urban expansion project in West Germany. The old town itself is enclosed by an almost completely preserved town wall; lanes and access routes there are narrow. From the Friday before the first Sunday of Advent until 24 December the Christkindlesmarkt occupies the Hauptmarkt and neighbouring streets – with over two and a half million visitors. Where possible we then schedule old-town moves for a different time.
On the move back to Berlin, parking space in inner-city districts such as Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain or Neukölln is scarce. We apply for the parking restriction zone with the road traffic authority of the district office, so that the lorry stops right outside the door after the A9 drive.
Guide prices for Nuremberg by flat size
Whether you are going to Nuremberg or returning from Nuremberg to Berlin – these guide prices are for orientation; there are no hidden items in the later fixed price:
| Size of flat | Volume approx. | Guide price |
|---|---|---|
| 1-room flat | 10–15 m³ | from €350 |
| 2-room flat | 20–25 m³ | from €590 |
| 3-room flat | 30–40 m³ | from €890 |
| 4-room flat | 45–60 m³ | from €1,290 |
| House / villa | from 60 m³ | individual quote |
For the route of around 436 km we set a guide price from €1,810, whichever direction. It becomes binding after the free survey.
These points determine the Berlin–Nuremberg price
The decisive factor is the volume – it determines the lorry and team size. Then comes the distance: around 436 km, calculated from €4/km. Also important: floor and lift at both addresses, a parking restriction zone and extras such as furniture assembly. For a small amount of goods a part load is the more economical choice.
