Our business is based at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit; we do not have a branch in Nuremberg. For a private move, company move or furniture transport, the team travels around 436 kilometres via the A9. That is why we clarify the permit and parking space before we set off.
In Nuremberg, you apply for a parking restriction (Haltverbot) with the Public Space Service (Servicebetrieb Öffentlicher Raum, SÖR) – according to the city, no later than four weeks in advance. You can add a packing service, part load or furniture taxi – all with a fixed price after a survey.

Nuremberg move: costs, SÖR permit, registration

Everything important about moving in Nuremberg

Short answers on costs, the parking restriction, exemption permits, registration and bulky waste in Nuremberg – for questions about the authorities, with reference to the information from the city and SÖR.

A move within Nuremberg starts from €375 for a 1-room flat, from €605 for a 2-room flat and from €915 for a 3-room flat. The exact price depends on the floor, access and the crew needed, for example in narrow streets in the Altstadt or in Gostenhof.

Moving in Nuremberg: from the castle to the Gründerzeit districts

A move in Nuremberg differs noticeably from a move in just any city: Bavaria's second-largest city combines a medieval Altstadt around the castle and Hauptmarkt, dense Gründerzeit districts such as Gostenhof or St. Johannis and sprawling new-build areas in Langwasser or Thon in a small space. Anyone who has driven through the lanes of the Lorenz or Sebald side of the old town knows the challenge: cobblestones, one-way streets and historic buildings with narrow stairwells call for careful planning and the right equipment.

As a removal company from Berlin (Stromstraße 21), we plan moves in Nuremberg by arrangement. Nuremberg lies at the intersection of the A3 (Frankfurt–Nuremberg–Passau), A6 (Mannheim–Nuremberg–Amberg), A9 (Berlin–Nuremberg–Munich) and A73 (Suhl–Bamberg–Erlangen–Nuremberg) motorways. This central location in Middle Franconia makes long-distance moves easier, as well as our journey from Berlin, around 436 road kilometres via the A9.

With us, the typical process of a move in Nuremberg includes:

  • Free survey or video consultation to assess volume and access
  • Checking the street conditions in the Altstadt, Wöhrd or Zerzabelshof
  • Clarifying the parking situation and, if necessary, a parking restriction zone
  • Packing, dismantling and transport by our team
  • Assembly and setting up in the new flat, including kitchen assembly on request

Whether a private move into a terraced house in Erlenstegen or a change of flat in the Südstadt, we plan every move individually around Nuremberg's traffic routing to avoid waiting times and extra costs. The VGN S-Bahn and U-Bahn network also plays a role in scheduling, as many streets around the main station are very busy during rush hour.

Gostenhof, St. Johannis, Langwasser: residential areas in Nuremberg

Statistically, Nuremberg is divided into ten city districts and 87 sub-districts, each with a very different character – for a smooth move in Nuremberg, knowing the particular residential area is crucial. In the historic Altstadt with its narrow lanes, tight access and short-term parking restrictions are almost always needed. In Gründerzeit districts such as St. Johannis, Gostenhof or Wöhrd, older buildings without a lift dominate, often with four or five storeys.

Other popular residential areas include:

  • Erlenstegen and Mögeldorf – Mögeldorf with listed buildings from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque
  • Zerzabelshof – home of the Academy of Fine Arts
  • Langwasser – built from 1957 onwards, with the exhibition centre
  • Schweinau and Muggenhof – with the telecommunications tower and the Energie Campus on the former AEG site respectively
  • Reichelsdorf, Eibach and Katzwang – districts in the south
  • Thon, Buch and Ziegelstein – districts in the north, with the Marienberg People's Park in Ziegelstein

We plan the right equipment for each of these locations: furniture lifts for older buildings without a lift, smaller vans for narrow streets in the Südstadt and spacious removal vans for moves out of detached houses in Reichelsdorf. We also plan senior moves district by district, for example when older people move from an older building in St. Sebald to an accessible flat in Langwasser – more on this on our senior move page.

If you are moving to or from the area around Nuremberg, we can also help with moves to Fürth or Erlangen, which border Nuremberg directly and are growing together with the city into a metropolitan region.

Moving costs in Nuremberg: transparent prices

The moving costs in Nuremberg depend on flat size, floor, distance and additional services. After the survey we calculate realistically and without hidden costs – whether for a small flat in the Südstadt or a detached house in Reichelsdorf.

ServicePrice from
1-room flatfrom €375
2-room flatfrom €605
3-room flatfrom €915
Long-distance move (per km)from €4.25/km
Parking restriction zone (per day)€30–100

These guide values apply to moves within Nuremberg and the nearby surrounding area, for example to Fürth or Erlangen. The final price depends on:

  • the floor and whether there is a lift
  • access, especially in the Altstadt or in narrow streets in Gostenhof
  • the number of crew and vehicle size required
  • additional services such as packing material, furniture assembly or piano transport
  • any parking restriction zone required in front of the building

For every move in Nuremberg, we recommend a free on-site or video survey so that we can draw up a binding fixed-price quote for you. This way you avoid surprises on moving day – whether it is a simple student move or a complete household that also needs clearing. For discarded furniture or clearing cellars before the move, we also offer professional house clearance, which is often combined directly with the moving date.

Parking restriction via SÖR: parking for your move in Nuremberg

Anyone moving in Nuremberg's Altstadt, in St. Lorenz or around the Hauptmarkt knows the problem: parking space is scarce, many streets are narrow and some are single-lane only. So that the removal van can stand right outside the door on moving day, we set up a parking restriction zone in Nuremberg for you – applied for in good time with the Servicebetrieb Öffentlicher Raum (SÖR).

Depending on location and duration, a parking restriction zone costs between 30 and 100 euros per day. A parking restriction zone is often unavoidable, especially in the following areas:

  • The Altstadt and castle quarter with narrow lanes and high parking pressure
  • Gostenhof with narrow residential streets
  • St. Johannis and Wöhrd with dense perimeter-block buildings
  • Central locations around the main station
  • Streets with tram or bus traffic, e.g. along Fürther Straße

We support you with the application to SÖR, organise for the signs to be put up by a competent person – according to the city, SÖR does not do this – and coordinate the period with your moving date. The signs are in place four days before the move. This saves you the bureaucracy and gives you the certainty that there will be enough space for the removal van and loading ramp on moving day.

Even in districts with looser development such as Langwasser or Reichelsdorf, a parking restriction zone can make sense, for example if large removal vans need to turn or a furniture lift is required. You can find details on the process, deadlines and prices on our parking restriction zone page. According to SÖR, applications must be submitted no later than four weeks in advance, so book us early to leave enough time for the permit.

From Nuremberg via the A3, A6, A9 and A73 – and to Berlin

Nuremberg lies at the junction of four motorways that cross south and east of the city: the A3 (Frankfurt–Würzburg–Regensburg–Passau), A6 (Mannheim–Heilbronn–Amberg), A9 (Berlin–Bayreuth–Ingolstadt–Munich) and A73 (Feucht–Fürth–Erlangen–Bamberg–Suhl). For a move from Nuremberg to another Bavarian city or across Germany, we handle planning, transport and logistics from a single source.

Fürth and Erlangen border Nuremberg directly. We also carry out moves to Bamberg, Ingolstadt, Würzburg, Regensburg, Augsburg, Munich or Passau; the exact route is stated in the quote. From our location at Stromstraße 21, Berlin is around 436 road kilometres away, almost entirely via the A9.

According to our price list, we calculate long-distance moves from €4.25 per kilometre, depending on the volume, floor and crew size required. We plan fixed time windows for loading and unloading, and we also offer the route from Berlin to Nuremberg.

If your belongings do not need the entire cargo space of a removal van, a part load is worthwhile – you share the trip with other moves in the same direction and save costs. Our team travels from Berlin for this; we do not have a branch in Nuremberg or anywhere else in Bavaria.

Services for your move in Nuremberg

As a removal company from Berlin, we offer the complete range of services for moving, transport and house clearance in Nuremberg – tailored to the structural particularities of the Franconian metropolis, from the Altstadt to Langwasser.

  • Private move for flats, houses and shared flats throughout Nuremberg
  • Company move for offices, law firms and commercial premises, including near the Nuremberg exhibition centre
  • Part load for smaller volumes on a fixed long-distance route
  • House clearance of cellars, lofts and entire flats before the move
  • Parking restriction zone organisation for narrow Altstadt streets
  • Piano transport with special equipment for stairwells in older buildings
  • Senior move with particular attention to calm and safety
  • Student move for shared-flat rooms near the university and the city centre

In addition to the transport itself, we offer packing services, furniture assembly and dismantling, and the proper disposal of bulky waste on request – especially for moves out of older flats in St. Johannis or Gostenhof, there is often discarded furniture that we take away directly. For business customers, we also offer IT-appropriate transport of servers and filing cabinets as well as weekend and night-time dates, to disrupt ongoing operations as little as possible.

We check access to commercial areas such as the Nordostpark in advance, just like the narrow residential streets of the Südstadt. What the survey shows feeds into the quote, so that you get a realistic time and cost frame from the start.

Office and company moves in Nuremberg

With the Nuremberg exhibition centre, insurance companies and a broad industrial and service landscape, Nuremberg is an important business location in Bavaria. A company move in Nuremberg therefore has particular requirements: tight time windows, sensitive IT infrastructure and the aim of continuing business operations as seamlessly as possible.

We plan office moves for companies of all sizes – from a small start-up in a coworking space in the Südstadt to a multi-storey law firm at Plärrer or the main station. Typical elements of our company move service are:

  • Advance walk-through and a detailed move plan with time windows
  • Labelling and inventory of furniture, files and technology
  • Proper transport of servers, monitors and sensitive hardware
  • Assembly and dismantling of office furniture and filing cabinets
  • Moves outside business hours, at weekends or overnight
  • Setting up a parking restriction zone in front of office buildings in the city centre

Especially in the densely built city centre around Königstraße or Karolinenstraße, loading zones are limited, which is why we coordinate delivery times closely with property managers and the Servicebetrieb Öffentlicher Raum. For companies with several locations in the metropolitan region, we also carry out moves between Nuremberg and neighbouring cities such as Fürth or Erlangen, for example when departments are merged.

On request, we also offer clearance of old office furniture and old files with GDPR-compliant destruction. This way your old office is left swept clean and your new location in Nuremberg is tidy and ready for use from day one.

Student moves in Nuremberg: process and booking

With the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg, parts of FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and several other higher education institutions, Nuremberg is a lively student city. Many students live in shared-flat rooms or halls of residence in districts with good tram and U-Bahn connections.

For a student move in Nuremberg, we offer a lean, budget-conscious concept tailored to smaller volumes and tight time windows between the end of semester and the start of a tenancy. Details can be found under student move. Typical features are:

  • Compact vans for shared-flat rooms and small studio flats
  • Flexible short-notice dates, including at the end of the month
  • Fair fixed prices from €375 for small volumes
  • Optional part load if only a few pieces of furniture are transported

Booking with us is deliberately kept simple:

  • 1. Enquiry by phone, email or online form with details of flat size and preferred date
  • 2. Free assessment by video or on site, including a check of access and floor
  • 3. Binding fixed-price quote after the assessment
  • 4. Date confirmation and, if needed, organisation of a parking restriction zone
  • 5. The move carried out by our team, including assembly and dismantling

Whether a complete private move, a small student move or a part load to Erlangen at the start of semester, our team from Berlin plans short-notice dates subject to availability and takes the typical peak periods around the start of lectures into account. So nothing stands in the way of a smooth start in your new flat.

Exemption permit for moves in Nuremberg: applying to the Servicebetrieb Öffentlicher Raum

In Nuremberg, the application for the removal van goes through the city: the responsible body is the traffic authority at the Public Space Service (Servicebetrieb Öffentlicher Raum, SÖR), Sulzbacher Straße 2-6. Moves are one of the reasons it lists for an exemption from traffic rules. The exemption permit allows parking in areas where it is otherwise restricted, for example where a parking disc is required, under a limited no-stopping restriction or in residents' parking areas.

You can apply online via the "Moves and deliveries" (Umzüge und Anlieferungen) form, using a PDF form, in person or by post or fax. According to the city, you typically need:

  • a fully completed application with reasons,
  • your identity card,
  • the vehicle registration certificate of the vehicle used.

According to SÖR, the one-day exemption permit outside the pedestrian zone costs 27 euros, and a parking restriction of up to 20 metres for one day 35 euros; beyond that, the fee depends on the period, area of validity and number of exemption reasons, and you receive a notice with an invoice. According to SÖR, applications must be submitted no later than four weeks in advance. The vehicle registration number can be submitted later via a dedicated online service if the van is only confirmed later. Because the duration depends on the individual case, we recommend submitting the application right after the date is confirmed and not planning the moving date too close to the processing time.

During the survey we clarify parking space, access and the vehicles needed and agree the right application with you, so that the permit and moving date match. More on this under parking restriction zone. More in our guide Moving to Nuremberg.

Registering, citizens' offices and bulky waste in Nuremberg after the move

According to the City of Nuremberg, you should register within two weeks of moving in; late registration counts as an administrative offence. It is possible from the day you move in at the earliest. Your main residence can be registered online via the "gemeinsam online" portal with BundID or BayernID and the online ID function, or in person at a Citizens' Office (Bürgeramt): Mitte (Äußere Laufer Gasse 25), Eberhardshof, Frankenstraße, Nord, Ost and Süd. An appointment is usually required for visits.

Registration is free of charge. In both cases you need the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) from your landlord; if you own the flat, you do not need it.

The city's waste management service helps with decluttering. According to the City of Nuremberg, there is bulky waste collection on request, with collection from home free of charge once a year. In addition, the six recycling centres accept bulky waste in normal household quantities free of charge. You should coordinate the moving dates with the collection so that the hallway is clear on moving day. Especially in older buildings with narrow stairwells, clearing the cellar and loft beforehand makes the work easier, because fewer items have to be carried through the building and the loading time is shorter.

If your move takes you to the neighbouring cities, see our location pages for Fürth and Erlangen, and further places under Bavaria. We carry out house clearances on request, see house clearance.

Always one step ahead.
