Your questions about moving in Regensburg
In most cases yes, as parking space in the Altstadt around the cathedral and the Stone Bridge is limited. The city's road traffic department is responsible; you submit the application at least two weeks in advance, and we help with the details.
Moving in the World Heritage city of Regensburg: process and booking
A move in Regensburg is more than packing boxes and carrying furniture. The city on the Danube combines one of the best-preserved medieval old towns in Germany – a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with Stadtamhof since 2006 – with modern residential areas and a strong business location around BMW, Continental and Infineon. Narrow lanes in the Altstadt, cobblestones around the Stone Bridge and limited loading zones along the Danube call for planning before moving day. Praktik Transport und Umzüge comes from Berlin-Moabit and therefore clarifies access, parking space and permits in advance, whether in Regensburg, Ingolstadt or Nuremberg.
Our process is deliberately kept simple, so that you can concentrate on your new home or office:
- Free initial consultation by phone, email or online form
- Individual quote after a survey or photo documentation
- Scheduling including a parking restriction zone if required
- Travel from Berlin and the move carried out with a suitable vehicle
- Follow-up, furniture assembly and optional house clearance
Booking is straightforward via our contact form or by phone – you receive the fixed-price quote after the survey. Whether a private move in the Altstadt, an office move in a commercial area or a student move near the university, we plan every move in Regensburg individually and match the route, parking zones and time windows precisely to local conditions. This way we avoid delays caused by road closures, market days on Neupfarrplatz or events in the city centre that can affect traffic around the Donaulände.
Districts from the Altstadt to Burgweinting
Regensburg is divided into numerous districts with very different characters – which also affects the planning of your move. The Altstadt and Stadtamhof opposite on the northern bank of the Danube, a separate town until 1924, offer historic flair, narrow streets and many flats without a lift – carrying distances through stairwells and good parking planning are crucial here. Outside the Altstadt, for example in Kumpfmühl, Königswiesen or Burgweinting, access is often easier; Kumpfmühl was incorporated as early as 1810/1818, and Burgweinting has its own railway stop.
Reinhausen, Steinweg and Schwabelweis became part of the city together with Stadtamhof in 1924 and lie north of the Danube; Prüfening, with its own railway stop, lies to the west. Major employers include BMW, Continental and Infineon.
| District | Character | Moving particularity |
|---|---|---|
| Altstadt / Stadtamhof | Historic, densely built | Narrow lanes, parking restriction zone recommended |
| Kumpfmühl / Königswiesen | Residential areas south and west of the Altstadt | Access depends on the street |
| Burgweinting / Harting | South-east, Burgweinting railway stop | Access usually easier than in the Altstadt |
| Reinhausen / Steinweg | North of the Danube | Access depends on the street |
For every address we ask about the floor, lift and access – from the narrow entrance in Stadtamhof to the new build on the edge of town. This lets us plan the vehicle size, number of movers and parking times realistically from the outset.
Moving costs in Regensburg – transparent prices
The moving costs in Regensburg depend on flat size, floor, distance and additional services such as packing or furniture assembly. So that you can calculate in advance, we give you realistic guide values that match our price list.
| Service | Price from |
|---|---|
| 1-room flat | €369 |
| 2-room flat | €605 |
| 3-room flat | €894 |
| Long-distance move (per km) | from €4.15 |
| Parking restriction zone (per day) | €30–100 |
These prices are starting values for standard moves without special requirements such as piano transport or extensive house clearance. Flats in the Altstadt with narrow stairwells or no lift can increase the workload, while easily accessible new builds in Burgweinting or Königswiesen can often be calculated more cheaply. If you want to save costs, you can also use our part load: your belongings are combined with other transports, which is noticeably cheaper, especially for long-distance moves from Regensburg.
After a short survey – in person on site or by video call – we draw up a binding fixed-price quote, so there are no hidden costs. Additional services such as house clearance, storage or applying for a parking restriction zone can be added flexibly without the basic price changing unexpectedly. This gives you full control over the costs of your move in Regensburg from the start.
Parking restriction in the Altstadt and in Stadtamhof
Anyone moving in Regensburg's Altstadt or in densely built-up districts such as Stadtamhof or Kumpfmühl knows the problem: parking spaces are rare, streets narrow and loading zones often occupied. So that your removal van can stand right outside the door, you need a parking restriction zone, which is ordered by the City of Regensburg's road traffic department; we prepare the application with you.
- According to the city, apply at least two weeks before the start
- In addition, a parking exemption permit for the vehicles in the restricted area
- Ideal for Altstadt locations, pedestrian zones and one-way streets
- Parking restriction zone €30–100 per day according to our price list
Especially in the historic Altstadt with its narrow lanes around the cathedral, Neupfarrplatz and the Stone Bridge, a parking restriction zone is often the only way to ensure lorry access and short carrying distances. Even in residential districts with dense parking such as Kumpfmühl, a reserved zone ensures that moving day is not delayed by hours of searching for a parking space.
We support you with the application, including the site plan and dimensions, and plan the moving day around the city's order. This saves you trips to the authorities and ensures that everything runs smoothly on moving day – whether you are moving within Regensburg or planning a long-distance move to another city. With tight time windows for lifts or hired vans in particular, a secured loading zone is a decisive advantage, especially in Regensburg's Altstadt.
From Regensburg to Berlin and across Bavaria
Regensburg is conveniently located at the intersection of the A3 (Nuremberg–Passau) and the A93 (Hof–Regensburg), with a direct link towards Munich via the A93/A9. This central location makes the city an ideal starting point for a long-distance move from Regensburg anywhere in Germany. It is around 495 road kilometres to our premises in Berlin-Moabit; the A3 and A93 meet at the Regensburg motorway interchange.
Within Bavaria too, destinations such as Munich, Nuremberg, Passau or Ingolstadt are easy to reach via the A93, A3 and A9, so many moves between Regensburg and other Bavarian cities can be completed in a single day.
- Long-distance moves from Regensburg to Munich, Nuremberg, Ingolstadt, Passau or Würzburg
- Also to Augsburg, Bamberg, Erlangen and Fürth
- Moves across Germany, including Berlin, Hamburg or Cologne
- Can be combined with a part load for smaller volumes
For smaller moves or individual pieces of furniture, a part load is often worthwhile: your belongings are combined with other transports on the same route, which noticeably reduces the cost per kilometre. For larger long-distance moves, we calculate transparently from €4.15 per kilometre, including loading and unloading. Whether you are changing jobs to Munich, moving to Berlin for personal reasons or starting your studies in Würzburg, we plan the route via the right motorways and agree stopovers, toll costs and delivery times realistically from the outset.
Services for your move in Regensburg
Praktik Transport und Umzüge offers the complete range of services for moving, transport and house clearance in Regensburg – tailored to the needs of private individuals, students and businesses. After the survey, we adapt vehicles and crew to the location, from the Altstadt to the commercial areas.
- Private move for flats and houses of any size, from a 1-room flat to a family villa
- Company move for offices, practices and businesses with minimal downtime
- Senior move with particular consideration for mobility and personal belongings
- Student move for shared-flat rooms and studios around the university
- Piano transport with dedicated securing for grand and upright pianos
- House clearance of flats, cellars and commercial premises
- Part load as an affordable alternative for smaller volumes
Each of these services can be booked individually or combined into an all-round package. Especially in the Altstadt with its narrow stairwells, we rely on enough carriers and the right equipment, while in modern districts such as Burgweinting or Königswiesen we can often work more efficiently with larger vehicles. On request, we also take care of dismantling and assembling furniture, professional packing of fragile items and final cleaning of your old flat. This way you get all moving services in Regensburg from a single source – reliable, transparently calculated and with an eye for the particularities of the city on the Danube.
Office and company moves in Regensburg
Regensburg is an important business location in the Upper Palatinate: major employers such as BMW, Continental and Infineon shape the city, as do numerous medium-sized businesses and a growing IT and start-up scene around the University of Regensburg and the OTH. A company move in Regensburg therefore requires precise planning so that business operations are interrupted as little as possible.
Our team usually organises office moves outside core working hours or at weekends to minimise downtime. We take into account:
- Dismantling and assembly of office furniture, server cabinets and file shelving
- Safe transport of IT equipment and sensitive documents
- Labelling systems for structured reassembly at the new location
- Coordination with property and facility management, for example in commercial areas near the A3
- Optional parking restriction zone for smooth access in the city centre
Whether a law firm in the Altstadt, a medical practice in Kumpfmühl or a production site near the BMW plant, we adapt vehicles, crew size and schedule to the size of the business. Companies with sensitive data or delicate technology in particular benefit from careful packing and a fixed schedule. We also plan supra-regional company moves, for example between Regensburg and Nuremberg, Munich or Ingolstadt, with a fixed price after a survey. With a clearly structured process, transparent communication and a dedicated contact person, we make sure your company move in Regensburg is completed on schedule and without unnecessary disruption to operations.
Student moves in Regensburg – affordable and flexible
With the University of Regensburg and the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule (OTH), Regensburg is a lively student city. Many students move into shared-flat rooms, studios or halls of residence at the start or end of semester, for example in Kumpfmühl, in the Altstadt or near the university hospital. A student move in Regensburg is usually characterised by smaller volumes, tight budgets and short-notice dates – and that is exactly what our offer is tailored to.
- Affordable fixed prices especially for small volumes
- Short-notice appointments around the start and end of semester
- Flexible vehicle sizes for rooms, studios and small flats
- Optional part load if only a few boxes and pieces of furniture are transported
- Help with assembling furniture in new shared-flat rooms or halls of residence
As many students live in buildings without a lift, for example in the Altstadt or in Steinweg, we calculate crew and time realistically without driving up the price unnecessarily. If you only want to transport a few pieces of furniture, you can often save considerably with our part load compared with a classic removal van. Spontaneous moves, for example a short-notice change of flat during the semester, can usually be carried out within a few days thanks to our flexible scheduling.
On request, we also offer a small house clearance of old furniture, which many students need when moving out of furnished rooms. This keeps moving in Regensburg stress-free, affordable and easy to plan for students – from the first semester to moving out after graduation.
Applying for a parking restriction in Regensburg: application, deadline and parking exemption permit
If you need space for the removal van in Regensburg, contact the City of Regensburg's road traffic department. On its service page, the city points out that, to keep public traffic areas clear during a home or business move, a parking restriction with official traffic signs must be ordered. The legal basis is § 45 (3) StVO.
The application is made using the city's form "Application for a parking restriction order" (Antrag auf Anordnung eines Haltverbots); an online application is also linked. According to the city, it must be submitted at least two weeks before the intended start of the parking restriction. You must state the location, length and width of the area and the time period. A site plan or sketch and an aerial photo showing the area concerned are listed as attachments.
In addition, a parking exemption permit is required for the vehicles in the restricted area. Please refer to the city's current information for the fee that applies to your duration; we deliberately do not state an amount here.
Especially in densely built-up areas, it pays not to plan the area too tightly. During the survey we estimate how long the removal van has to stand in front of the building and help you with the details for the application. We record the floor, lift, carrying distances and access for every address. You can find more on this topic under parking restriction zone and in our guide to moving to Regensburg.
Regensburg: city centre, west and north when moving
In its cycling plan, the City of Regensburg divides its area into city sectors. The city centre includes the Altstadt ensemble, the Wöhrd islands and Stadtamhof. The west extends from Großprüfening to Margaretenau, and the north includes Sallern, Reinhausen and Weichs, among others. This distinction is useful for your move, because the location determines how the removal van can pull up.
In the city centre around the Altstadt and Stadtamhof, streets and access roads are often narrow, and a parking restriction is particularly useful here. We clarify with the responsible city office before moving day whether access restrictions apply to your street. In the other sectors, conditions vary greatly from street to street, so we plan each address individually. Please tell us the city sector when you enquire, so that we can calculate the duration and vehicle size accordingly.
Don't forget to register after moving in: under § 17 of the Federal Registration Act (Bundesmeldegesetz), you must register with the registration authority within two weeks of moving in. Read more in our article on deadlines after the move.
For moves from Regensburg into the region, Passau and the overview for Bavaria are also helpful. Students can find information under student move.
