Frequently asked questions about moving in Passau
The costs depend on the flat size and the work involved. A 1-room flat starts at €365, a 2-room flat from €615 and a 3-room flat from €894. We calculate long-distance moves from €4.10 per kilometre.
Moving in the City of Three Rivers: the process between the Danube, Inn and Ilz
Passau, the City of Three Rivers on the Danube, Inn and Ilz, presents removal companies with challenges all of its own. The historic Altstadt, with its narrow, partly medieval lanes around Residenzplatz and the Ortspitze, is often only partly accessible for large removal vans. That is why Praktik Transport und Umzüge from Berlin plans access, one-way streets and parking space in advance – the city is shaped by three rivers and the surrounding hills.
With us, a move in Passau always starts with a thorough survey on site or by video – this lets us see early on whether a parking restriction zone is needed, whether there is a lift or whether narrow historic stairwells in the Altstadt have to be managed. The proximity to the Austrian border also plays a role: the A3 connects Passau with Regensburg, the Innkreis motorway leads to Wels in Upper Austria, and the A94 towards Munich has so far only been completed in sections.
We plan every private move in Passau individually: from a single flat in the Innstadt to a detached house in Patriching. We take into account factors such as the parking situation, floor, lift and the distance to the new home. We check the traffic routing around the main station and the Luitpold Bridge before setting off. This way we avoid unnecessary waiting times and ensure everything runs smoothly – whether a short trip within the city or as the starting point for a long-distance move anywhere in Germany. The hilly terrain between the Altstadt, Ilzstadt and Grubweg in particular requires enough carriers and the right tools, which we plan after the survey.
Residential areas in Passau: 16 districts for your move
Passau has no official city districts; colloquially, the 16 citizens' assembly areas are regarded as districts, and each places its own demands on a move. The Altstadt, with its Venetian-looking lanes, is densely built up and traffic-calmed – parking restriction zones and smaller vans are often essential here. The Innstadt lies opposite the Altstadt on the other bank of the Inn; the Innsteg footbridge connects the two banks.
In residential areas such as Grubweg, Haidenhof Nord and Haidenhof Süd, in Hacklberg, Neustift or Heining, buildings range from blocks of flats to detached houses with a longer walk from the vehicle to the front door. That is why we ask about the floor, lift and access for each address individually before deciding on the vehicle and crew.
Other Passau districts such as Schalding, Patriching and Kohlbruck are a little outside the centre and generally offer better parking for our removal vehicles. For each of these districts, we calculate the journey, the crew required and any additional services such as house clearance individually. If you are moving from an older Passau building with a narrow stairwell to a new-build flat in Heining or Neustift, you get a plan for both locations. This way we ensure that both a city-centre move in the Altstadt and a move to the quieter outskirts of Passau run smoothly.
Moving costs in Passau: transparent prices without surprises
The moving costs in Passau depend on several factors: flat size, floor, distance, access in the Altstadt or Innstadt and any additional services you want. So that you can plan from the start, we work with clear guide prices, which we confirm after a free survey.
| Type of move | Price from | Typical services |
|---|---|---|
| 1-room flat | from €365 | Transport, basic packing kit, furniture assembly |
| 2-room flat | from €615 | Transport, boxes, dismantling/assembly, loading |
| 3-room flat | from €894 | Full service, furniture protection, parking restriction zone optional |
| Long-distance move from Passau | from €4.10/km | Transport across Germany, part load possible |
In addition to these basic prices, services such as a parking restriction zone (€30–100 per day, depending on the street and permit duration), piano transport or house clearance may be charged. If you do not need the full loading capacity of a removal van, you can save real money with our part load – particularly handy for smaller quantities or individual pieces of furniture on the way from Passau to Regensburg, Nuremberg or Munich.
The location of the flat also matters for the calculation: a move in the narrow Altstadt with a parking restriction zone and carrying distance costs differently from a move into a new-build area with a lift and parking directly outside the door, for example in Neustift or Heining. After a short survey, we draw up a transparent, non-binding quote with no hidden costs – fairly calculated for the Passau housing market.
Parking space in the Altstadt: parking restriction via the Office for Public Order
Especially in Passau's Altstadt, around Residenzplatz, Domplatz and the Ortspitze, parking space is scarce and often restricted by pedestrian zones or narrow one-way streets. A removal van needs enough space directly outside the door here to keep loading distances short and safe. That is exactly why we offer to set up a parking restriction zone, which is applied for with the City of Passau's Office for Public Order.
According to our price list, a parking restriction zone costs 30 to 100 euros per day. The city's deadline and fee depend on the individual case; ask the office before fixing the date. We help you with the street, length and period for the application and, on request, inform the neighbours.
- Application to the Office for Public Order, Passavia service centre
- Ask the office beforehand about the deadline and when the signs must go up
- Ideal for narrow Altstadt lanes and central locations
- Considerably reduces carrying distances and moving time
- Avoids conflicts with illegally parked cars on moving day
A parking restriction zone is also worthwhile outside the Altstadt, for example for moves in densely built-up parts of Haidenhof or Ilzstadt, where parking in front of blocks of flats is often limited. By reserving a space early, you save not only time but also money, as long carrying distances directly affect labour costs. We clarify the city's requirements in advance and make sure your moving day goes ahead without parking stress – from the first box to the last piece of furniture.
From Passau to Berlin and other cities
Passau is conveniently located at the junction of several important trunk roads and is therefore an excellent starting point for a long-distance move. Via the A3 you reach Regensburg to the north-west and then Nuremberg and Würzburg. The A94 to Munich has so far only been completed in sections. It is around 617 road kilometres to our premises in Berlin-Moabit.
We calculate long-distance moves transparently from 4.10 euros per kilometre, depending on the volume, number of floors and the additional services required. If you do not need the full cargo space, you can save considerably with our part load option – ideal for students commuting between Passau and other Bavarian university cities, or for smaller moves over longer distances.
- Passau – Regensburg: via the A3
- Passau – Nuremberg: via the A3
- Passau – Munich: depending on the route, via the A3 and A92 or sections of the A94
- Passau – Würzburg: via the A3
- Passau – Berlin: around 617 road kilometres
As a removal company from Berlin, we also carry out moves to other cities such as Regensburg, Nuremberg, Munich, Ingolstadt, Augsburg, Erlangen, Fürth, Bamberg and Würzburg. We check motorway sections, roadworks and traffic peaks before the journey and plan your route accordingly, so that your belongings arrive safely and on time – whether within Bavaria or anywhere in Germany.

Office and company moves in Passau, professionally organised
Passau is not only a university city but also an important business location in the border triangle of Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. Numerous medium-sized companies, law firms, medical practices and IT service providers are based here, particularly in the city centre, in districts such as Kohlbruck or around the main station. A company move in Passau requires precise planning so that business operations are interrupted as little as possible.
We take care of the complete organisation of office moves: from dismantling and transporting sensitive IT infrastructure, through labelling and rebuilding workstations, to the punctual handover of the new premises. Especially for moves within the Altstadt or in listed buildings, which are common in Passau, careful planning around narrow access roads and limited delivery times is important.
- Move planning outside core working hours possible
- Safe transport of servers, files and office furniture
- Labelling system for quick reassembly
- Coordination with property management and IT service providers
- Planning of practice and law-firm moves in central Passau
For companies expanding or relocating from Passau to other Bavarian business centres such as Regensburg, Munich or Nuremberg, we also offer tailor-made moving concepts. We calculate costs and time frames transparently and coordinate the process closely with your facility management.
Our aim is to organise your company move in Passau so that employees, customers and business partners notice as little of the changeover as possible. With the right crew, equipment for sensitive technology and clear scheduling, we ensure a smooth transition to your new business premises – punctually and professionally.
Student moves in Passau: process & easy booking
The University of Passau, with around 10,000 students, accounts for a large number of student shared flats, studio apartments and halls of residence in districts such as the Innstadt, Altstadt and Grubweg. A student move in Passau differs significantly from a classic family move: smaller living spaces, often narrow stairwells in older buildings and usually a limited budget shape the requirements.
We therefore offer flat rates specially tailored to students, combining transport, basic packing and furniture assembly at a fair price – starting from the terms for a 1-room flat from 365 euros. If you only want to move a few boxes and individual pieces of furniture, you benefit from our part load, which is particularly useful for moves between Passau and other university cities such as Regensburg or Erlangen.
- Flexible dates, including at short notice for the start of semester
- Small teams for narrow stairwells in the Altstadt and Innstadt
- Fair flat-rate prices especially for students
- Part load for moves between Bavarian university cities
- Help with assembling and dismantling shelves and beds
Booking a student move in Passau is straightforward: after a short description of the flat size, the floor and any special features such as a missing lift, we draw up a transparent quote. On request, we also arrange a short-notice parking restriction zone if there is not enough parking near the flat, for example around the university.
Especially at the start and end of semester, when many students move at the same time, we recommend booking early. This secures your preferred date and lets you plan your move around the University of Passau without time pressure.
Passau: sorting out a parking restriction for your move with the Office for Public Order
In Passau, the Office for Public Order (Amt für öffentliche Ordnung), Road Traffic and Driving Licences section, is responsible for traffic orders (Passavia service centre, Vornholzstr. 40, 94036 Passau, telephone +49 851 396-395, email [email protected]). The city recommends making an appointment in advance; the office is open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm, on Wednesdays from 8 am to 12 noon, on Thursdays from 8 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 5 pm, and on Fridays from 8 am to 12 noon. On its roadworks page, the city provides an "application for an order for traffic-regulating measures under § 45 StVO". It explains there that a traffic order sets out the type, scope and duration of the measure as well as the signage required. § 45 StVO allows road traffic authorities to restrict the use of certain roads for reasons of traffic safety or order.
Whether a parking restriction is ordered for a removal van, and with what deadline and fee, depends on the individual case. So ask the office before you fix any dates.
- Getting there: The city refers to a dynamic parking guidance system. It names the Kohlbruck P&R car park (from the A3 motorway, Mitte/Süd exit), the Kapuzinerstraße P&R car park (from Austria) and the Ilzbrücke multi-storey car park (coming from the B85, B12, B388).
- Residents' parking: According to the city, in districts with high parking pressure, some spaces are reserved for residents only.

Passau: flood risk on the Danube, Inn and Ilz, registration and bulky waste
Passau lies on three rivers. According to its flood page, the city has designated a flood area along the Danube, Inn and Ilz; the regulation has been in force since 6 August 2015. It is based on the flood of June 2013, which is classified for Passau as a more-than-100-year event. According to the city, the main flood protection measures are planned and implemented by the Free State of Bavaria, represented by the State Water Management Office in Deggendorf. For your move this means: if your old or new address is close to the river, you should discuss the location of the flat, cellar rooms and any interim storage in advance. Plan alternative dates in case of weather warnings. The city publishes the map of the flood area together with the regulation.
After moving in, take care of these points:
- Registration: The City of Passau's Citizens' Office handles registrations, deregistrations and changes of address. Appointments can be reserved online up to 4 weeks in advance. Under § 17 of the Federal Registration Act (Bundesmeldegesetz), you must register within two weeks of moving in.
- Bulky waste: The City of Passau names the Passau-Hellersberg recycling centre, which accepts bulky waste for a fee. Waste disposal is handled by the Donau-Wald waste management association.
