Moves in Bamberg's World Heritage old town

Fixed price after a survey

Unsere Firma plans moves in Bamberg from Berlin-Moabit and clarifies parking space, carrying distances and permits before the date.

Our company is located at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit; we have no branch in Bamberg. For a move in Bamberg, the team drives around 405 kilometres via the A9 and A70. That is why we clarify in advance where the vehicle can stop in the Inselstadt, the hill district (Berggebiet) or the Gärtnerstadt.

We prepare the quote as a fixed price after a video survey or by arrangement. It covers the journey, floors, carrying distances and any parking restriction, which in Bamberg is applied for at the traffic authority. This way you know the costs and process before moving day.

Questions about moving in Bamberg: from parking restrictions to bulky waste

Key answers for your move in Bamberg

Short answers on old-town access, parking restrictions, registration, bulky waste and residents' parking in Bamberg – each with reference to the City of Bamberg's information.

In the Inselstadt or on the Domberg, lanes are narrow and many houses are listed buildings. We clarify during the survey whether a smaller vehicle and additional carrying helpers are needed. A parking restriction ordered in advance makes the process considerably easier.

Moving between the Domberg, Inselstadt and Regnitz

Bamberg, the picturesque city on the Regnitz in Upper Franconia, has had its old town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. Like Rome, Bamberg is built on seven hills, including the Domberg, Kaulberg and Michaelsberg – hence its nickname, the “Franconian Rome”. For a move in Bamberg this often means narrow lanes, historic staircases without a lift and little space for removal vans.

As Praktik Transport und Umzüge we come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and therefore plan moves in the Inselstadt and the hill district particularly early. Our process begins with a free survey or virtual assessment of your belongings, followed by a transparent fixed-price quote. Only then do we plan the date, parking restriction zone and vehicle size – adapted to the respective street width in areas such as Sandstraße or around Little Venice.

Typical particularities of a move in Bamberg are:

  • Narrow access roads in the old town and around the Domberg
  • Listed buildings with narrow staircases
  • Addresses on the arms of the Regnitz, for example around Little Venice, with limited access
  • Stairs and differences in height in the hilly hill district

For a smooth private move we choose the vehicle size after the survey: often smaller in the old town, larger in the outer districts. We clarify with you beforehand whether an order from the traffic authority is required for your address. This saves you time, avoids fines and lets you look forward to your new home in Bamberg in a relaxed way, whether it is in the historic city centre or a modern new-build area.

Inselstadt, hill district, Gaustadt: Bamberg's residential areas

Bamberg is divided into numerous districts of very different character, which makes every move in Bamberg individual. The Inselstadt with its half-timbered houses and the famous Little Venice (Klein-Venedig) is characterised by period flats, narrow courtyards and little parking. The Bergstadt around the Domberg and the Michelsberg monastery offers historic flair, but steep, winding access roads that require careful route planning.

The 2012 State Garden Show took place on the site of the former ERBA cotton mill in Gaustadt; the Erbainsel is now a park. Gaustadt, Bug and the Ost district lie outside the World Heritage area; houses with a garden and cellar there often mean a larger moving volume and more cargo space in the vehicle.

Further districts from Bamberg's municipal structure:

  • Wunderburg – in the south-east of the core city
  • Theuerstadt with the Gärtnerstadt – in the north-east, part of the World Heritage Site
  • Gereuth and Gartenstadt – residential areas outside the old town
  • Wildensorg and Kramersfeld – localities on the edge of the city area

Depending on the district, journey times, parking options and building types vary considerably. For flats without a lift in the old town we recommend additional carrying help, while in new-build areas a single lift transport is often enough. When moving out of larger houses we also offer a house clearance so that cellar, attic and garage are emptied before the move and nothing unnecessary has to be transported.

Moving costs in Bamberg – transparent prices

The moving costs in Bamberg depend on several factors: size of the flat, floor, whether there is a lift, distance between the old and new address and desired additional services such as packing service or furniture assembly. After the survey we calculate realistically and without hidden costs – precisely because many flats in Bamberg's old town require additional carrying work.

Size of moveApprox. priceExample
1-room flatfrom €354Room in a shared flat, studio on Sandstraße
2-room flatfrom €605Period flat in the Inselstadt
3-room flatfrom €915Family flat in Bamberg-Ost
Long-distance movefrom €3.95/kmBamberg – Berlin, approx. 405 km

If required, additional services are added to the prices, such as piano transport for instruments in period flats with narrow staircases or a part load if only a few pieces of furniture need to be transported, for example when moving out of a furnished room near the university.

Reserving a parking restriction zone in the old town also costs 30 to 100 euros per day, depending on location and duration. We recommend planning this early, especially for moves around the Domberg or Little Venice, where parking is scarce anyway. After a short survey our team prepares a binding fixed-price quote, so that you know exactly from the start what costs to expect for your move in Bamberg.

Parking restriction zone in Bamberg – stress-free parking on moving day

Anyone who has ever tried to find a parking space for a removal van in Bamberg's old town knows: without a parking restriction zone, moving day quickly becomes a test of patience. Especially in the Inselstadt, around the Maximiliansplatz or in the narrow lanes on the Kaulberg, public space is tight and further restricted by the listed buildings.

We support you with the parking restriction zone in Bamberg: according to the city, the traffic authority at Luitpoldstraße 51 is responsible; after the order, the signs must be obtained, put up at least 96 hours beforehand and removed again afterwards. Depending on location and duration, the costs are between 30 and 100 euros per day – a worthwhile investment, as it saves you a long search for parking, fines and valuable time on moving day.

Applying early is particularly important in the following areas:

  • Old town and Inselstadt (narrow lanes, pedestrian zones)
  • Domberg and Bergstadt (steep access roads, little parking space)
  • Squares in the Inselstadt such as the Grüner Markt or Maximiliansplatz
  • Streets with roadworks or events (e.g. during the Bamberg Sandkerwa)

In districts such as Bamberg-Ost, Gaustadt or Bug the parking situation is usually more relaxed, but we still recommend a reservation here so that the removal van can be placed right in front of the door. This shortens carrying distances considerably, which is particularly advantageous for a senior move or when transporting heavy furniture. Talk to us early: the city does not state a processing time, so the application should be made with plenty of lead time.

From Bamberg into the region – and to Berlin

Bamberg is connected by two motorways: the A70 from Schweinfurt to Bayreuth and the A73, which leads north towards Coburg and Suhl and south past Erlangen and Fürth to Nuremberg. The A70 goes west towards Schweinfurt and on to Würzburg, and east to the A9.

We also handle moves to more distant Bavarian cities such as Munich, Regensburg, Ingolstadt, Augsburg or Passau; we measure the route in the quote. From our base at Stromstraße 21 it is around 405 road kilometres to Berlin via the A9 and A70. According to our price list, we calculate long-distance moves from 3.95 euros per kilometre.

For smaller moving volumes, such as individual pieces of furniture or moving out of a room in a shared flat, we also offer an inexpensive part load, in which your belongings are transported together with other consignments heading the same way. This saves costs when a tour between Berlin and Franconia is planned anyway.

How long a move from Bamberg takes depends on the route, loading time and mandatory breaks. We agree the date and arrival time with you bindingly beforehand – whether within Bavaria or to another federal state.

Our moving services in Bamberg at a glance

As a removal company from Berlin, we offer a wide range of services in Bamberg, tailored to the particularities of the city between the Regnitz old town and modern new-build areas. Whether a small student pad near the station or a large family villa in Bug – we provide the right team and equipment for every need.

Our core services in Bamberg include:

Especially in Bamberg's old town with its narrow lanes and listed buildings, careful preparation counts: we protect staircases, door frames and façades with blankets and edge protection. In districts outside the World Heritage area, such as Ost or Gaustadt, access and buildings often look different; the survey shows what applies to your address.

Whichever service you choose: we work with sturdy packing material and clear arrangements so that your move in Bamberg runs smoothly from start to finish.

Office and business moves in Bamberg, professionally organised

Bamberg is not only a historic old town but also an important business location in Upper Franconia. Medium-sized businesses, authorities such as the Higher Regional Court (Oberlandesgericht) and the Otto-Friedrich University with its many sites create demand for office moves. We also handle moves to neighbouring Hallstadt by arrangement.

An office move in Bamberg requires particularly careful planning, as interruptions to operations must be minimised. Together with you, we draw up a detailed schedule that takes into account IT infrastructure, file logistics, furniture dismantling and assembly as well as ongoing business. On request we plan moves at weekends or in the evening so that customers and employees hardly notice any restrictions.

Typical challenges in office moves in Bamberg are:

  • Narrow access to offices in the old town or on the Domberg
  • Safe transport of IT equipment and servers
  • Coordination with property managers for commercial properties
  • Short-term parking restriction zones for lorries in busy areas

For sensitive items such as conference tables, filing cabinets or even a piano in the reception area, we also offer piano transport. When vacating old office space we also help with a professional clearance so that the premises can be handed over to the landlord broom-clean.

Process, time window and staff are set out in the quote before the date – for small practices as well as for larger offices in Bamberg and the surrounding area.

Student moves in Bamberg and a simple booking process

With the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg and its sites on Feldkirchenstraße, the An der Weberei campus and Kärntenstraße, Bamberg is a lively university town. Every semester numerous students move into rooms in shared flats, apartments or halls of residence, often centrally located around the city centre or near the station.

Our student move in Bamberg is tailored specifically to small budgets and mostly manageable moving volumes. We offer flexible dates, including at short notice at the start of semester, as well as affordable fixed prices for single rooms or small flats. A part load is often worthwhile here too if only a few boxes and pieces of furniture need to be transported.

The booking process at Praktik Transport und Umzüge is deliberately kept simple:

  • Free enquiry by phone, email or online form
  • Short survey or description of your belongings
  • Transparent fixed-price quote without hidden costs
  • Agreeing the date, including organising the parking restriction zone if needed
  • The move is carried out by our team from Berlin

Especially for students who move more often, for example between rooms in shared flats in the city centre or from one hall of residence to another, we offer attractive terms and short lead times. If parents organise their children's move to Bamberg from another city, we agree everything directly with them. Simply contact us – we take care of the rest so that the start of your studies or the change of semester in Bamberg begins in a relaxed way.

Parking restrictions for moving in Bamberg: traffic authority, forms and obligations

For the removal van in front of your door in Bamberg, you apply for a temporary parking restriction at the traffic authority of the City of Bamberg (Luitpoldstraße 51, 96052 Bamberg). The city's page on parking exemption permits explicitly mentions putting up traffic signs for an absolute no-stopping zone, for example for a move. The city decides on a case-by-case basis whether a permit is granted.

  • Forms: The city provides two PDF forms, „Antrag auf eine Ausnahmegenehmigung zum Parken“ (application for a parking exemption permit) and „Antrag auf Einrichtung eines temporären Halteverbots“ (application for a temporary parking restriction).
  • Signs: According to the City of Bamberg, you must obtain and put up the no-parking signs yourself and remove them immediately after the date. No traffic signs may be put up without a prior official order.
  • Contact: Telephone 0951 87-2210; opening hours Monday to Friday 8 am to 12 noon and by appointment.

The city's page gives no information on the fee or processing time, so ask the traffic authority directly (as of October 2026). This also applies to streets closed to vehicle traffic: the city lists a separate exemption permit for driving on closed roads. Clarify this as early as possible so that the date with the removal company does not fall through because of a missing order. More on the parking restriction zone and our private move.

Moving in Bamberg: registration, bulky waste and parking in the World Heritage city

Bamberg describes itself as a UNESCO World Heritage city. For everyday matters after moving in, the city names the following offices:

  • Registration: The residents' registration office in the public order office (Promenadestraße 2 a, Rathaus am ZOB, 96047 Bamberg) works by appointment, Monday to Thursday 8 am to 6 pm and Friday 8 am to 2 pm. You book appointments online via the city.
  • Residents' parking permit: The traffic authority offers it via an online service; in exceptional cases you can also apply in person.
  • Bulky waste: According to Bamberg Service, collection is free of charge or included in the waste fees; it is possible twice a year and can be booked by phone on 0951 87-7100 or online. You must be present for the collection, and it must actually be bulky waste.
  • Parking: The city states over 1,500 parking spaces in multi-storey and underground car parks in the core city.

If you live in the old town or in a district with stairs and narrow access, please tell us when you enquire so that we can plan carrying routes and staff accordingly. Students will find the university at many sites: the university lists 73 addresses in the city, including Feldkirchenstraße 21, An der Weberei 5 and Kärntenstraße 7. For a student move, clarify beforehand where your route begins.
