Everything important about moving in Würzburg
The costs depend on the flat size, floor and distance. Guide values are €369 for a 1-room flat, €609 for 2 rooms and €884 for 3 rooms. For an individual quote, we recommend a free survey.
Moving in Würzburg: the process between the Altstadt, the Main and the fortress
A move in Würzburg presents removal companies with challenges all of its own. The university city on the Main lies between gentle vineyards and a historic Altstadt whose narrow lanes around the cathedral, Marktplatz and the Old Main Bridge are hardly designed for large removal vans. In addition, the Main bridges – from the Old Main Bridge to the Friedensbrücke – cause traffic bottlenecks at peak times, which we take into account in route planning from the outset.
Praktik Transport und Umzüge comes from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and therefore plans for Würzburg's topography in advance: valley slopes with vineyards, the Marienberg Fortress on the left bank of the Main and densely built districts call for suitable vehicles and carrying routes. We plan every private move individually: first comes a free survey or a virtual quote, then professional packing of your household, transport and assembly at the destination.
Typical process of a move in Würzburg:
- Free survey or assessment by phone
- Individual quote with a fixed-price option
- Packing, dismantling and securing the furniture
- Transport through the Altstadt, Sanderau or Heuchelhof on a route checked in advance
- Assembly, connection and final cleaning on request
We also handle smaller transports, such as individual pieces of furniture from the area around the Residence to a new flat in Frauenland, as a part load when capacity is available. This saves you costs without compromising on quality or punctuality. We clarify narrow access and limited stopping space before the moving day, so that private and business moves in Würzburg and Lower Franconia remain plannable.
Würzburg's 13 city districts: residential areas at a glance
Würzburg is divided into 13 city districts, which has a direct effect on planning a move in Würzburg. Until the 19th century, the inhabited city area consisted almost entirely of the Altstadt inside the Ringpark and the Mainviertel on the left bank of the Main. The Altstadt impresses with its historic buildings, but also has narrow streets and loading zones that often require a parking restriction zone. Sanderau, south of the Altstadt, is an old-building quarter with many students.
Frauenland, Grombühl and Zellerau are also separate city districts with different types of building. Heidingsfeld became part of the city in 1930, Heuchelhof was planned as an urban extension from the 1960s onwards, and Lengfeld and Versbach were incorporated in 1978. At Hubland, a new district was created on the former airfield of the Leighton Barracks, which hosted the State Garden Show in 2018; a large part of the university is also located there.
| District | Location | Particularity |
|---|---|---|
| Altstadt | Inside the Ringpark | Narrow lanes, listed buildings, loading zones |
| Mainviertel | Left bank of the Main | Historic buildings below the fortress |
| Sanderau | South of the Altstadt | Older buildings, many students |
| Zellerau | West, on the Main | Clarify access and parking space in advance |
| Heuchelhof | South | Urban extension, blocks of flats |
| Lengfeld / Versbach | Part of the city since 1978 | Clarify access and parking space in advance |
Whether you are moving within the Altstadt, from Grombühl to Heidingsfeld or from the surrounding area to Würzburg, we check access routes, parking rules and structural features for every address and adapt the vehicle and team accordingly.
Moving costs in Würzburg: what you should budget for
The moving costs in Würzburg depend on several factors: flat size, floor, whether there is a lift, the distance between the old and new address and any additional services such as piano transport or house clearance. Especially in the Altstadt or on steep slopes near the Marienberg Fortress, carrying distances can involve extra work, which we show transparently in the quote.
As a rough guide, we have put together our guide prices for a move in Würzburg:
| Service | Price |
|---|---|
| 1-room flat | from €369 |
| 2-room flat | from €609 |
| 3-room flat | from €884 |
| Long-distance move | from €4.25/km |
| Parking restriction zone | €30–100/day |
These prices are guide values and may vary depending on the work involved, the floor and additional services. We recommend a free survey on site or virtually to obtain a binding fixed-price quote – with no hidden costs.
Key cost factors at a glance:
- Flat size and number of rooms
- Floor and whether there is a lift
- Distance between the old and new flat
- Additional services such as a packing service or furniture assembly
- Need for parking restriction zones in narrow streets
For students, families and seniors in particular, we offer flexible packages so that your move in Würzburg remains plannable and transparent in cost. Get in touch – we calculate your individual move fairly and transparently.
Parking restriction zone and parking for your move in Würzburg
Anyone moving in Würzburg's Altstadt, in Sanderau or in Grombühl knows the problem: parking spaces are rare, streets narrow and loading zones often occupied. So that your removal van can stand right outside the door on moving day, we organise a parking restriction zone and support you with the application for a traffic order from the City of Würzburg's Civil Engineering and Traffic Department.
Depending on location and duration, a parking restriction zone costs between €30 and €100 per day. In busy areas such as Domstraße, Marktplatz or around the Residence, applying early is particularly important, as approval procedures can take several days.
Our service includes:
- Support with the application for a traffic order
- Putting up the no-parking signs in good time before the moving date
- Coordination with residents and neighbours
- Alternative parking solutions for particularly narrow streets
Especially in residential areas such as Heidingsfeld or Zellerau, where narrow streets and cars parked on both sides make access difficult, setting up a parking restriction zone early makes sense. For moves in the Hubland area too, where construction traffic can make the parking situation even worse, we plan ahead.
Our aim is to spare you and your neighbours unnecessary stress. With a parking restriction zone set up in good time, carrying distances are considerably shorter, which saves time and protects your furniture. Contact us early so that we can secure the permit in good time before your moving date in Würzburg.
From Würzburg via the A3, A7 and A81 – and to Berlin
The A3 (Frankfurt–Nuremberg) passes Würzburg; around 10 kilometres south-east of the city it crosses the A7 at the Biebelried motorway interchange, and the A81 to Heilbronn and Stuttgart begins at the A3 near Würzburg. Whether moving to Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne or another region, we plan long routes as well as regional moves.
Within Bavaria, we carry out moves between Würzburg and cities such as Bamberg, Nuremberg, Erlangen and Fürth. Moves to Ingolstadt, Augsburg, Munich, Regensburg or Passau are also possible; the exact route is stated in the quote.
From our location at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit, it is around 493 road kilometres via the A9, A70 and A7. According to our price list, we calculate a long-distance move from Würzburg from €4.25 per kilometre, depending on the belongings, vehicle size and route. If your belongings do not need the entire cargo space, we also offer an affordable part load – ideal for students, commuters or smaller households.
What you can expect from us:
- Travel via the A3, A7 or A81 depending on the destination
- Long distances within Germany, including from Berlin to Würzburg
- Flexible part-load solutions for smaller transports
- Fixed dates and transparent per-kilometre prices

Office and company moves in Würzburg
As a university and business location in Lower Franconia, Würzburg is home to numerous medium-sized companies, practices and institutes – from the city centre to Hubland, where a large part of the university is located. A company move in Würzburg requires precise planning so that operations are disrupted as little as possible.
Our company moving service covers all areas: from dismantling and transporting office furniture and safely relocating IT infrastructure to restoring the workstations on schedule at the new location. Wherever possible, we work outside core working hours or at weekends to minimise disruption.
Typical locations for company moves in Würzburg are:
- City-centre locations with offices in historic buildings
- Commercial areas on the edge of town
- University buildings and institutes at Hubland
- Practices and law firms in Frauenland and Sanderau
We also handle the professional clearance of old office space and the safe transport of sensitive technology such as servers, file archives or laboratory equipment. On request, we also coordinate any necessary parking restriction zone for the removal van directly in front of the office building, which is often essential in tight city-centre locations.
We also plan company moves from Würzburg to other cities, such as Nuremberg or Aschaffenburg, with a fixed schedule and a documented handover, so that your office move in Würzburg runs smoothly.

Würzburg: sorting out the parking restriction and parking on moving day with the city
In Würzburg, traffic regulation is the responsibility of the Civil Engineering and Traffic Department (Fachbereich Tiefbau und Verkehrswesen). On its traffic management page, the city explains that experts in traffic law and road traffic regulations determine traffic signs and road markings there, including for small and large roadworks. The department's contact details are Veitshöchheimer Straße 1, 97080 Würzburg, telephone 0931 37 22 98; opening hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 8:30 am to 1:00 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30 am to 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and Fridays 8:30 am to 12:00 noon. Ask the department directly which deadline and fee apply to a parking restriction for a move before you fix the moving date. The legal basis is § 45 StVO, which allows road traffic authorities to restrict the use of certain roads for reasons of traffic safety or order.
- Roadworks: The city publishes an overview of roadworks in Würzburg on its website. Check it for your moving days.
- Residents' parking: According to the city, a residents' parking permit is only valid in the respective residents' zone. There is no entitlement to a particular parking space being kept free; that is why a parking restriction for the removal van makes sense. SVG parking customers can also use the tram in the Großwabe fare zone with their parking ticket.
- Multi-storey car parks: According to the city, SVG provides around 4,500 parking spaces in seventeen car parks and parking areas.

Würzburg: districts, registering at the Citizens' Office and bulky waste
On its page on district concepts, the City of Würzburg lists, among others, Innenstadt, Zellerau, Grombühl, Heidingsfeld, Lengfeld, Versbach, Rottenbauer and Lindleinsmühle. For your move, this means that the city centre, hillside locations and the outskirts differ in access and parking options. A survey shows what is needed for your address. An overview of districts and costs can be found in our guide Moving to Würzburg.
- Registration: According to the Citizens' Office, you must register within two weeks of moving in; registration before moving in is not possible. Since 21.09.2026, residence registration can be done electronically via a nationwide platform, but only for a main or sole residence.
- Welcome pack: New residents can collect a welcome pack at the Citizens' Office (room 34). If you are moving from abroad and for secondary residences, registering in person at the Citizens' Office is required; book appointments via the city's appointment system.
- Residents' parking permit: According to the city, in Zellerau (parking zone Z) a secondary residence is sufficient. One requirement, among others, is that no garage or private parking space is available.
- Bulky waste: On its waste page, the city provides information on bulky waste and garden waste collection, recycling centres and waste charges. There you will also find the waste calendar and an A–Z of waste.
