From Berlin to Leverkusen
Moving to Leverkusen: Wiesdorf, Opladen, Schlebusch
Guide
Leverkusen lies directly north-east of Cologne on the right bank of the Rhine, where the Wupper flows into the Rhine; around 170,000 people live here. The city was formed in 1930 from Wiesdorf, Schlebusch, Steinbüchel and Rheindorf, and in 1975 Opladen, Bergisch Neukirchen and Hitdorf were added. That is why Leverkusen has three centres with a pedestrian zone: Wiesdorf, Schlebusch and Opladen. For your home move we clarify in advance whether it is an older building in Opladen, a high-rise in Wiesdorf or a house on the slope in Bergisch Neukirchen – the number of movers and the parking restriction depend on it.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive by lorry around 561 km via the A2 to the Kamener Kreuz interchange and the A1 to Leverkusen; including a break that takes about eight hours. On request we take care of packing service and dismantling and assembling the furniture. According to the city, you or we apply for the parking restriction at least 14 days in advance. More on the route under Moving Berlin – Leverkusen.

What we handle on a move to Leverkusen
Planning in Berlin, arrival on the Rhine and Wupper
We have no branch in Leverkusen and no network of regional locations; instead we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit. That is why we ask about access, floor and stairwell in advance – from Hitdorf on the Rhine to Lützenkirchen on the slope. We pack, carry, transport and assemble; we give you the fixed price after the survey. For your belongings we are liable under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is possible. You will find places with their own pages under Locations.

Your
move, our craft

This guide summarises the city's information and calculates the route and driving time from our base at Stromstraße 21. Frequently asked questions about moving to Leverkusen
The boroughs and districts of Leverkusen
Leverkusen is divided into three boroughs with 13 districts. In the 1975 reorganisation, Opladen was split between boroughs II and III. Three centres have a pedestrian zone: Wiesdorf (Leverkusen-Mitte) on the Rhine with the town hall and Bayer headquarters, Schlebusch and Opladen, where the TH Köln's Leverkusen campus is located in the Neue Bahnstadt. Schlebusch and Bergisch Neukirchen are regarded as the "gateway to the Bergisches Land"; Bergisch Neukirchen, Quettingen, Lützenkirchen and Steinbüchel lie on the western slope of the Bergisches Land. Hitdorf on the Rhine belonged to Monheim until 1975. Borough I includes Wiesdorf, Manfort, Rheindorf and Hitdorf, and borough II includes Opladen, Küppersteg, Bürrig, Quettingen and Bergisch Neukirchen, among others. For the move, access, floor and hillside location matter most – we clarify these before the quote so that enough movers are on hand.
Living, working and studying in Leverkusen
We do not give specific rents because they depend heavily on location and condition; the city's rent index (Mietspiegel) provides comparative values. Leverkusen is best known for the Bayer group, which has its headquarters here, and for Bayer 04 Leverkusen, German champions in 2023/24. The TH Köln runs its Leverkusen campus in Opladen. Cologne lies around ten kilometres to the south, and the A1 and A3 meet at the Leverkusen interchange. Anyone who searches early and is flexible about location will find a flat more easily. It is best to plan giving notice in Berlin, the parking restriction with 14 days' lead time and registration backwards from moving-in day; the city's rules are set out further below. If the new flat is not yet free, we store your furniture temporarily in Berlin and deliver on the agreed date. What a home move includes is described on the service page.

Parking restriction for your move in Leverkusen: applying to the city
For the removal van in Leverkusen, you apply to the city for a parking restriction. According to the City of Leverkusen's municipal portal, both private individuals and removal companies can submit the application, including online. The application goes to the department for public order and road traffic (Fachbereich Ordnung und Straßenverkehr) and must be received at least 14 days before the move. The city names "Baustellen und Erlaubnisse" (roadworks and permits) at Haus-Vorster-Straße 8 (telephone 0214 406-36310) as the office; because the page names two departments, briefly confirm who is responsible beforehand.
According to the city, the parking restriction must be in place three full days before the move. For this you use two portable no-parking signs with additional plates for date and time. The city does not provide the signs; they can be hired for a fee from the TBL outdoor depot at Borsigstraße 15. The lower edge must be at least 2 m above the ground. A site inspection may be necessary, for example if an external lift is needed.
As for the fee, the city states €19 for one day, €31 for one week and €45 for one month for an absolute parking restriction in up to two streets.
- Submit the application at least 14 days in advance
- Put up the signs three full days before the move
- Expect a site inspection if an external lift is used
We support you with the planning; more on this under Parking restriction zone. Our services for Leverkusen are described on the page Moving Leverkusen.
Leverkusen: registering at the Bürgerbüro on Wiesdorfer Platz
After moving in, you register your new address in Leverkusen. According to the City of Leverkusen, the deadline is two weeks after moving in; the day you move in does not count. According to the page, anyone who exceeds the deadline commits an administrative offence under the Federal Registration Act (Bundesmeldegesetz). The responsible office is the Bürgerbüro (department 331) at Wiesdorfer Platz 32, telephone 0214 406-33120. An appointment is required for the visit, which you can make online, by email or by phone.
Alternatively, you can register online without an appointment if you have an ID card with an activated eID function and a free BundID account. You should bring:
- the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) from your landlord (owners fill it in themselves)
- your ID card or passport, and for children their ID documents or birth certificates
- written authorisation if someone is acting on your behalf
- if moving from abroad, your last residential address in Germany
Registration is free of charge. If you also want to change the address on your vehicle registration certificate, according to the city this costs €10.80 per certificate.
Depending on the district, whether Wiesdorf, Opladen or Hitdorf, access, parking and carrying distances differ. We check them during the survey and only then give you the price. If you are coming from another city, such as Berlin, we plan the route via our long-distance move service.
