Moving to Wels: Costs Process & Districts

Wels guide
Wels: Upper Austria's second-largest city
Districts, offices, daily life
Wels lies on the left bank of the Traun and, with around 65,800 inhabitants, is the second-largest city in Upper Austria after Linz. It is known as a trade-fair and industrial city. A move to Wels from Germany is a long-distance move within the EU – without a customs declaration, but with Austria's registration requirement. We take care of packing, transport and assembly; you can find all our services under Private move.
We are based in Berlin and also move people abroad – it is around 700 road kilometres to Wels. The page Moving Berlin – Wels describes the schedule and route. In the centre, a parking restriction (Halteverbot) or a parking space reservation is usually needed for moves; we explain the city's procedure further down. You can find further destinations under Long-distance moves.

What we clarify before moving day in Wels
Parking restriction, loading time, registration form
For a temporary parking restriction, the city of Wels carries out a consultation procedure, and the permit is issued by the city police command (Stadtpolizeikommando). The city does not state a processing time – so we submit the application with you as early as possible. Planning, packing, transport and assembly come from a single source, and the price is set as a fixed price after the survey. You handle the registration form (Meldezettel) yourself within three days.

Statistically, Wels is divided into nine districts: Innere Stadt, Lichtenegg, Neustadt, Oberthan, Pernau, Puchberg, Vogelweide, Schafwiesen and Waidhausen. Parking restrictions for your move in Wels: procedure and fees
The city of Wels states on wels.gv.at that parking restrictions or parking space reservations are usually needed for moves, especially in the centre. Before a temporary parking restriction, the authority carries out a consultation procedure involving, according to the city, the police and the road maintenance authority, among others, and if necessary also the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Labour. The parking restriction is approved by the Wels city police command, traffic department (Verkehrsamt).
A submission fee of 21.00 euros per application is payable. On top of this comes a usage fee according to the tariff regulations, the amount of which depends on the extent and duration. The Facility Management department charges separately for the working time and travel costs of putting up traffic signs and barrier material. The city does not state a processing time, so submit the application as early as possible. Also note: if work on or next to the road affects traffic, a permit from the authority is required according to the city, without prejudice to other legal provisions. This may be relevant if you want to set up a furniture lift for your move. The sections "Verkehrsbeschränkungen" (traffic restrictions) and "Verkehrszeichen" (traffic signs) on wels.gv.at explain the procedure.
The contact point is the Department of Building, Trade and Traffic Affairs, Rainerstraße 2, 4600 Wels, email [email protected]. You can read detailed instructions on the process in our article Applying for a parking restriction zone; on request we take care of it as part of our Parking restriction zone service. Wels: districts, short-stay parking zone and recycling centre
For its district survey, the city of Wels names the residential areas Vogelweide, Neustadt, Gartenstadt, Lichtenegg, Pernau and Laahen; officially, Wels is divided into the nine districts listed above.
According to the city, there are currently 942 surface parking spaces in the paid short-stay parking zone. Charges apply Monday to Friday from 8 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 6 pm, and on Saturdays from 8 am to 12 noon; parking is free on Sundays and public holidays and at lunchtime from 12 noon to 1 pm. The maximum parking time is 120 minutes for 1.00 euro. You can pay with coins, parking cards, debit and credit cards or by app (EasyPark, Parkster). A "Welser Parkmünze" (Wels parking token) worth 35 cents corresponds to 21 minutes of parking; the city also offers annual parking passes.
The Wels-Nord recycling centre (Altstoffsammelzentrum) at Florianiweg 9 accepts bulky waste, waste wood, scrap metal, building rubble, cardboard, electrical appliances and green waste. It is open Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 7.00 pm and on Saturdays from 8.30 am to 1.00 pm; information is available on 07242 542 73. For trips within the city, Wels refers to Wels Linien and the WEST shared taxi for Wels and Thalheim.
Registering with the city's registration service is free of charge. According to the city, anyone moving into accommodation registers within three days. For each person you need a fully completed, signed registration form (also signed by the accommodation provider) and a passport or identity card.
