From Berlin to Jihlava
Moving to Jihlava: the old mining town of Iglau in the Vysočina
Planning from Berlin
A move to Jihlava – Iglau in German – takes you to the administrative seat of the Vysočina Region, right on the historic border between Bohemia and Moravia, around 78 km west-northwest of Brno. Jihlava is regarded as the oldest mining town in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown; around 25 km of medieval passages run beneath the old town. Until 1945 the town was the centre of the German-speaking Iglau language island, and Gustav Mahler grew up here. For your international move we clarify access and parking in advance.
The route is easy to plan: around 479 km via Dresden and Prague (A13, A17, D8, D1), about 7 hours by lorry including a break. We load in Berlin, drive to Jihlava and reassemble everything there – usually over two days, depending on volume. As the Czech Republic is part of the EU, there are no customs formalities for your household goods; on the way, the electronic lorry toll applies to vehicles over 3.5 t. You receive the fixed price after the survey; background on the route can be found under Long-distance move to the Czech Republic.

Moving to Jihlava: arrange a survey
479 km, one contact person, one fixed price
For your move to Jihlava, one call to 01625978461 is all it takes: we survey your flat by video or on site, ask about the floor and access at the destination and calculate the 479 km route. You then receive a written fixed price in which a parking restriction, assembly or storage are listed as separate items.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How your move to Jihlava works with us
479 km, one team, one fixed price
Our team sets off from Stromstraße 21 in Berlin – we have no branch in Jihlava itself. That is why we plan all the more carefully beforehand: floor, lift, walking distance and parking space, for example for a flat on Masaryk Square or a house in Henčov. According to the gov.cz portal, reserved parking spaces require a permit for special use of the road, which the Magistrát decides on for local roads – we clarify this in advance. After the survey you receive a fixed price; liability for your belongings is governed by § 451e HGB (€620 per cubic metre). Details on our private move can be found here.

A move to Jihlava raises many questions: which district suits you, how do you register as an EU citizen, who approves a reserved parking space for the removal van and how long can you park with a visitor parking permit? This guide presents the 16 districts of Jihlava up to Zborná and summarises what the police, gov.cz and the city say about it. Read more about the journey in Long-distance move to the Czech Republic.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Jihlava
The 16 districts of Jihlava
Jihlava consists of 16 districts: Jihlava with the old town, Antonínův Důl, Červený Kříž, Henčov, Heroltice, Horní Kosov, Hosov, Hruškové Dvory, Kosov, Pávov, Pístov, Popice, Sasov, Staré Hory, Vysoká and Zborná. Most of the city, including the centre, lies in Moravia; some parts historically belong to Bohemia.
In the centre around Masaryk Square, with the town hall and the Jesuit church, there are old townhouses beneath which the medieval passages lie; the outer districts are more village-like. For the move, therefore, the specific address is what counts: we clarify access, floor and parking space during the survey. What to do after arrival is set out in our checklist for the Czech Republic.
Mining town, Mahler and the Vysočina
Jihlava lies on the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands where the Jihlávka flows into the Jihlava river. According to legend, silver was already being mined here in 799; the town was granted far-reaching privileges early on. Since 2004 it has been home to the College of Polytechnics Jihlava, a public higher education institution with around 600 students. North of the town, European route E59 begins at the D1 motorway. We do not give specific rents – they depend heavily on location and condition.
For newcomers from Germany: within the EU there is no customs duty on household goods; anyone staying longer than 30 days registers their residence with the foreigners' police within 30 days. Long distances from Berlin can be found under Long-distance moves.
Your move – your costs
The cost of a move depends heavily on the size of the flat. Smaller one-room flats can be moved from €375. Moving into a two-room flat costs from €594, with 3 rooms it is from €894 and with 4 rooms from €1,329. There is no flat rate for houses or villas – here we always prepare an individual quote. For a long-distance move we charge from €3.95 per kilometre. The quickest way to find out your exact price is a free survey.
Understanding moving costs: the relevant criteria
The main cost drivers include the volume of your belongings, the distance (from €3.95/km), the number of floors and whether there is a lift. A parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) is also recommended for a smooth process. In addition, we offer furniture assembly and a part load.

We plan moves from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) for private and business customers – including to other EU countries such as the Czech Republic. Jihlava: parking and spaces for the removal van
Anyone who wants to secure parking space for the removal van in Jihlava encounters two sets of rules. According to the gov.cz service portal, reserved parking spaces (vyhrazené parkování) require a permit for special use of the road. For local roads the municipal office decides; the fee starts at CZK 100 for permits of up to 10 days. The portal does not explicitly mention moves. So check with the Magistrát města Jihlavy (Tyršova 18) whether an application is needed for your street and what deadline applies.
Paid parking in Jihlava is governed by Ordinance No. 7/2024 (in force since 1 September 2024; check whether it is still current):
- Short-term parking: the visitor parking permit is valid for a maximum of 24 hours. Payment is made at the machine, by SMS or via virtual parking meters.
- Construction work: for construction work in buildings within the zones, the short-term parking permit can also be paid at the cash desk of the Magistrát.
- Long-term parking: the resident parking permit is only available with permanent residence (trvalý pobyt) or property ownership in the zone. It is electronic and linked to a number plate.
A "visitor" is anyone who is neither a resident nor a subscriber in the zone. Anyone who has just moved in and does not yet meet the requirements initially falls under the visitor rule. We secure loading in Berlin with a parking restriction zone.
Jihlava: residence registration and long-distance move from Berlin
If you move to Jihlava as an EU citizen and want to stay longer than 30 days, you must, according to the Police of the Czech Republic and the gov.cz portal, register your residence within 30 days of entry. The responsible authority is the foreigners' police office covering your place of residence. According to the portal, registration is free of charge.
- How: you submit the official registration form in person or by post. Electronically, this is only possible via a data box or by e-mail with a qualified electronic signature.
- Exceptions: no registration is needed if your accommodation provider has registered your stay or you are under 15 years of age.
- Consequences: failing to comply is an administrative offence. According to the police, the fine can be up to CZK 3,000.
The transport from Berlin to Jihlava crosses the border into the Czech Republic. According to German customs, you can bring goods duty-free from any EU country if they are intended for your personal use or consumption; cash of €10,000 or more must be declared on request. Customs' special rules for household effects concern moves from non-EU countries, not from EU states. We set the transport route and date with you in the quote after the survey.
