Moving to Oranienburg: districts, authorities and daily life
Arriving well
Oranienburg lies around 33 km north of our base in Berlin-Moabit – close enough for a move to Oranienburg in one day. For your home move we plan access, the parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) and carrying routes, whether to the town centre, to Lehnitz or to Sachsenhausen. We state the fixed price after the survey; our liability is under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is available. You will find details of the scope of services under Home move.
Many people move from Berlin to Oranienburg because the town offers more space and water, while the S-Bahn still runs directly into the capital. For this short route we plan a fixed date with a well-practised team. A part load is also possible if you only need to transport a few pieces of furniture. You can see further destinations under Locations, and longer routes under Long-distance moves.

What a move to Oranienburg involves
Town centre, settlement, village
Oranienburg covers a large area: besides the town centre with the Eden settlement, it includes districts such as Germendorf and Friedrichsthal. Here, no-parking zones are not handled by the town but by the road traffic authority of the Oberhavel district – the application must arrive at least two weeks in advance and justify a compelling need. We plan this in and state the fixed price after a survey. Our liability is under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per m³). This makes your fresh start on the Havel plannable.

What
comes after moving in
A move to Oranienburg comes with a few tasks: registration within two weeks, online via OpenR@thaus or at the citizens' office (Bürgeramt) on Schloßplatz, the district's exemption permit for the no-parking zone, and registering at a nursery or school. In the town centre (parking zone 1) you can apply for a residents' parking permit. The choice of district, whether the town centre or rural Wensickendorf, also plays a role. We are happy to advise you.

Frequently asked questions about living in and moving to Oranienburg
The districts of Oranienburg: where you will feel at home
Oranienburg consists of the town centre and several districts that appeal to different lifestyles. The town centre scores with the Baroque Oranienburg Palace, shopping and short distances to the station, while Lehnitz, between Lake Lehnitz and the Havel, is popular with families and Berlin commuters. Eden, the fruit-growing settlement founded in 1893 within the town centre, offers large plots and plenty of greenery.
If you prefer it more rural, Wensickendorf, Zehlendorf or Schmachtenhagen have a village character. Germendorf and Friedrichsthal are close to the town centre, and the district of Sachsenhausen is home to the memorial as well as residential areas. We plan access for every district during the survey.
Housing market, rents and employers in Oranienburg
The best way to check whether a rent is right is with current listings and comparative rents; many Berliners move to Oranienburg for more living space. Terraced houses and new-build flats in Lehnitz and the town centre are in demand, while the more rural districts tend to have larger plots. The town is growing, which is putting increasing pressure on the housing market.
As the district town, Oranienburg offers jobs in the Oberhavel district administration, at Oberhavel Kliniken and in several business parks. The S1 S-Bahn line has its northern terminus in Oranienburg, and regional trains also run to Berlin. This way commuters and students reach Berlin's universities and employers without detours. This mix of space and connections makes Oranienburg attractive for many.
Moving prices by flat size
These base prices apply to a move to Oranienburg: for a 1-room flat you pay from €365, for a 2-room flat from €615, for a 3-room flat from €879 and for a 4-room flat from €1,324. For a house or villa we prepare an individual quote, and we charge long-distance moves from €3.85/km. We state the exact price after a free survey.
What changes the price in Oranienburg
Every calculation is based on volume and distance (from €3.85/km) – from Berlin-Moabit it is only around 33 km. On top of that come the floor, the lift and the parking restriction zone with the district's exemption permit. For furniture assembly or a part load we prepare an individual quote.

No-parking zone for your move in Oranienburg: the Oberhavel district road traffic authority
In Oranienburg, no-parking zones are not handled by the town but by the district. According to the Oberhavel district, to keep parking spaces free for your own move you need an exemption permit from the road traffic authority. The responsible team is the exemption permits team at Adolf-Dechert-Straße 1, 16515 Oranienburg (phone 03301 601-5924). Opening hours are Tuesdays from 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 6 pm, and Thursdays from 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm.
For the application, the district states:
- An informal application that arrives at least two weeks before the parking date, in person, by post or by email.
- A power of attorney if third parties submit the application for you.
- The fee is listed in the no-parking fee overview on the district's website and is based on the GebOSt (fee schedule for road traffic measures). Additional fees apply for statements from the municipalities and the police.
- Approval depends on a compelling need being apparent; the authority examines each case individually.
So describe specifically in the application why the van has to stand directly in front of the building. One example would be narrow access. How we support you with this is described under No-parking zone. More about the location: Removal company Oranienburg.
Re-registering in Oranienburg: citizens' office, residents' parking permit and the Lehnitz district
Anyone moving from Berlin to Oranienburg (Removal company Berlin) registers within two weeks under § 17 (1) BMG. The town offers online registration of your main residence via OpenR@thaus; access is via BundID or a service account. In person, you go to the citizens' office at Schloßplatz 1. According to the town, from 2 November 2026 the citizens' office can only be visited by appointment, except on Tuesdays. The public-authority number 115 is available Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm.
If you live in the town centre (parking zone 1), you can apply for a residents' parking permit. The citizens' office accepts the application, and the permit is issued by the Oberhavel district. The town states a processing fee of 30.70 euros; the permit is valid for one year.
Besides the town centre, Oranienburg consists of the districts of Friedrichsthal, Germendorf, Lehnitz, Malz, Sachsenhausen, Schmachtenhagen, Wensickendorf and Zehlendorf. According to the town, Lehnitz is the largest district; it borders directly on the town centre and lies between Lake Lehnitz and the Havel on the L 211. The railway line divides the village into Lehnitz-Nord and Lehnitz-Süd. In the south, housing and recreational plots dominate. Plan access to the district accordingly and check which side of the railway your address is on.
For shorter distances, our local move is the right choice.
