Moving to Frankfurt (Oder): costs process & districts

From Berlin to the Oder
Moving to Frankfurt (Oder): Viadrina, prefab blocks and the Oder riverside
Guide
Frankfurt (Oder) lies right on the border with Poland: you can walk across the town bridge to the Polish town of Słubice, and there have been no passport checks there since 2007. Residential areas range from the centre on the banks of the Oder to the prefab blocks in Neuberesinchen and outlying districts such as Booßen or Lossow. For your move to Frankfurt (Oder) we clarify access, floor and parking space in advance.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 106 km by lorry via the A12 to Frankfurt (Oder); including town traffic that takes about an hour and a half. This means loading in Berlin and unloading on the Oder can often be done in one day. We quote the fixed price after a survey – for packing, transport and furniture assembly. The page Moving Berlin – Frankfurt (Oder) describes the route in detail; we also plan the journey back to Berlin.

What we take care of on your move to Frankfurt (Oder)
Short distance, carefully planned
We have no branch in Frankfurt (Oder); we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit – at around 106 km that is a short journey. We ask about floor, lift and carrying distances in advance, whether a prefab block in Neuberesinchen, an old building in the Gubener Vorstadt or a house in Booßen. We clarify the traffic order (verkehrsrechtliche Anordnung) for the parking space with the responsible department of the town. We quote the fixed price after the survey; we are liable for your belongings under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre of load space.

Move affordably with a part load
For a shared-flat room at the start of the semester at the Viadrina or single pieces of furniture, a part load (Beiladung) to Frankfurt (Oder) can be cheaper than a dedicated transport: your belongings share the load space with other consignments on the same route. In return, you need some flexibility on the delivery day.

Everything
for your move
A move to Frankfurt (Oder) raises practical questions: which district suits you, where may the removal van stand, where do I register? This guide introduces the districts from the Gubener Vorstadt through Beresinchen to the Lebuser Vorstadt and explains parking space, registration and the journey from Berlin. On request, we handle furniture and kitchen assembly as well as storage if the new flat is not yet free. You will find our services in detail under private move.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Frankfurt (Oder)
The districts of Frankfurt (Oder) at a glance
Frankfurt (Oder) is divided into five areas. The centre includes Stadtmitte, Gubener Vorstadt and Obere Stadt, with short distances to the Oder and the town bridge to Słubice. In the south lies Beresinchen: alongside Altberesinchen, the prefab housing estate of Neuberesinchen was built there in the 1970s and 1980s, and there are also the districts of Güldendorf and Lossow.
In the north lie the Lebuser Vorstadt, the Hansaviertel and Klingetal as well as the districts of Kliestow and Booßen; in the west Nuhnenvorstadt, Rosengarten/Pagram and Lichtenberg, and in the south Markendorf and Hohenwalde. For the move, the specific address is what counts: a prefab block without a lift needs different planning from a house in Booßen.
Viadrina, the border location and the route to Berlin
The European University Viadrina was re-founded in 1991 and shapes the town: at the start of the semester, demand for small flats is higher. We do not give specific rents – they depend heavily on location and condition. If you commute to Berlin, you use the A12 or the RE1 regional express, which connects Frankfurt (Oder) directly with Berlin.
Across the town bridge you reach Słubice in Poland; Poland is in the EU, so household goods cross the Oder without customs papers. If you live in Poland, you register there according to Polish rules. Around 56,600 people live in Frankfurt (Oder) – enough of a town for short distances, but without the housing pressure of a big city.
How we calculate your moving price
Every move is different, but the following prices serve as a guide: a 1-room flat costs from €369, a 2-room flat from €615, a 3-room flat from €899 and a 4-room flat from €1,309. Larger properties such as a house or villa receive an individual quote. For long-distance moves a price per kilometre from €4.25/km applies. The quickest way is a free survey.
Factors influencing moving costs
The decisive factors include the volume, the distance (from €4.25 per kilometre), the floor and whether there is a lift. Organising a parking restriction zone also plays a role. For individual requirements, furniture assembly and a part load are available.

More routes from Berlin
We plan moves from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) for private and business customers. Places with their own pages can be found in the locations overview, and details on long distances under long-distance moves.
Parking restrictions and traffic orders in Frankfurt (Oder): Office for Public Order and Safety
For traffic orders, the Town of Frankfurt (Oder) refers you to the General Public Order and Road Traffic Affairs department of the Office for Public Order and Safety (Amt für Ordnung und Sicherheit, telephone 0335 552-3202). We did not find a dedicated page on parking restrictions for moves in the town's citizen and business service. So contact this department directly and ask whether and how you apply for a traffic order for your destination street. This applies both to loading at the old address and to unloading at the destination, if you are arriving from Berlin with a large vehicle and expect narrow or busy streets. Also talk to the property management and neighbours so that the space is actually free on moving day.
- Timing: ask about the processing time before you fix the moving date, and have the street, house number and date ready.
- Signs: clarify by when they must be in place and who puts them up.
- Closures: the town publishes current and past closures under "Verkehrsmitteilungen" (traffic notices); check there shortly before moving day.
We take care of the coordination for you as part of our parking restriction zone service and explain the process in the guide Applying for a parking restriction zone. Our page Removal company Frankfurt (Oder) shows how we plan moves in the town, and our long-distance move offer explains the route from Berlin.
Registering in Frankfurt (Oder): citizens' service on Marktplatz and landlord confirmation
According to the Town of Frankfurt (Oder), after moving in you must register with the registration authority within two weeks; late registration can be punished with a fine as an administrative offence. The responsible office is the Office for Public Order and Safety, Citizens' Service/Bürgerbüro department in the town hall (Marktplatz 1, 15230 Frankfurt (Oder), telephone 0335 552-3330).
- Documents: ID card or passport and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) from your landlord.
- Family: for a joint registration, one person can attend in person but needs the identity documents of everyone concerned. A power of attorney is required for an unmarried partner or adult children.
- Appointment: the town offers online appointment booking. If the documents are complete, registration is usually processed immediately.
- Costs: according to the town, registration is free of charge.
You re-register your car with the vehicle registration authority; the town also offers appointment booking for this. Schedule the appointments for after moving day and observe the two-week deadline under § 17 of the Federal Registration Act. The Bürgerbüro is the first stop after moving in, so it is worth keeping the landlord confirmation and ID documents to hand in your "important" moving box. Further tips on settling in are in the guide Living in Frankfurt (Oder).
