Pedestrian
zone, period buildings, university: planning a move in Oldenburg
Narrow city-centre streets
Period buildings without a lift
Near the university

Key answers for your move in Oldenburg
The pedestrian zone lies around St Lamberti Church and the palace gardens, and loading space is scarce. For city-centre moves we therefore usually plan an exemption permit for the loading space and check access and carrying routes in advance.
Moving in Oldenburg: the process between the pedestrian zone and the motorway ring
With around 177,000 inhabitants, Oldenburg (Oldb) is the third-largest city in Lower Saxony after Hanover and Braunschweig and the regional centre of the north-west. For a move in Oldenburg this means short distances within the city, but a city centre with the oldest area-wide pedestrian zone in Germany, whose redesign began in 1967. Around Lange Straße, Waffenplatz and St Lamberti Church, the removal van therefore cannot simply stop in front of every door.
We are not an Oldenburg business: our base is Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit, and for the move the team travels out with the lorry. With us, a private move begins with a free survey by video or by arrangement. During it we record access, the parking situation and the particular features of your flat – for example a period building in the Dobbenviertel or a new build in Wechloy. You then receive a fixed-price offer covering all services from packing to furniture assembly.
The city centre is surrounded by a motorway ring: the A28 leads to Bremen and towards Leer/Emden, the A29 to Wilhelmshaven and the Ahlhorner Heide interchange, and the A293 and the Nordtangente close the ring. This helps with moves within the city as well as to neighbouring towns such as Rastede or Bad Zwischenahn. Around the main station and the Weser-Ems-Halle, a parking restriction zone often makes sense.
Typical points for planning: narrow staircases in older houses around the city centre, the pedestrian zone and little loading space for removal vans. That is why we plan every private move in Oldenburg individually and with sufficient time in reserve.
Districts and residential areas in Oldenburg
Oldenburg is divided into nine districts with many neighbourhoods of very different character. This has a direct effect on planning a move – from the lively city centre to the quiet residential areas on the edge of the city.
The city centre around St Lamberti Church and the palace gardens has attractive period buildings, but also the pedestrian zone and little parking. A parking restriction zone often makes sense here so that the removal van can stand close to the door. In the belt around the city centre – Dobbenviertel, Gerichtsviertel, Haarenesch, Ziegelhof – historic buildings mix with modern additions; older houses often lack a lift, which costs carrying time.
Many neighbourhoods such as Bloherfelde, Bürgerfelde and Ohmstede are characterised by one- and two-family houses with gardens, often with their own driveway. Anyone living near the university in Wechloy or Haarentor often moves into compact flats or shared flats – a classic case for our student move. Osternburg and Kreyenbrück lie in the south of the city; a new neighbourhood is being built on the former air base (Fliegerhorst).
The following table gives an overview of typical residential areas:
| Neighbourhood | Character | Moving feature |
|---|---|---|
| City centre/old town | Period buildings, pedestrian zone | Parking restriction zone recommended |
| Dobbenviertel/Gerichtsviertel | Historic buildings | Often no lift, more carrying time |
| Wechloy/Haarentor | Near the university, shared flats | Smaller volumes |
| Osternburg/Kreyenbrück | South of the city | Check access in advance |
| Bloherfelde/Bümmerstede | Detached houses | Usually own driveway |
Whatever neighbourhood your new home is in – we plan the route, roadworks and parking for every address individually.
Moving costs in Oldenburg: transparent prices at a glance
The moving costs in Oldenburg depend on several factors: the size of the flat, floor, distance to the new address and any additional services required, such as a packing service or furniture assembly. So that you can plan from the start, we work with clearly calculated fixed prices instead of hidden extra charges.
| Type of move | Price from |
|---|---|
| 1-room flat | from €375 |
| 2-room flat | from €579 |
| 3-room flat | from €884 |
| Long-distance move (per km) | from €4.10/km |
| Parking restriction zone (per day) | €30–100 |
A move in the city centre with narrow access roads often turns out somewhat differently from a move into a detached house in Bloherfelde with a direct driveway. The floor also plays a role: period buildings in the Dobbenviertel without a lift mean more effort than a new build in Wechloy with a lift. If you also need clearance of the old flat or want a piano moved, you can easily add these services – details can be found under our piano transport.
For students and small moves we also offer the option of a part load, where your household goods are carried together with other transports – ideal for reducing the cost of smaller volumes within Oldenburg or towards Bremen. On request, after a short survey we will draw up a free, non-binding offer tailored exactly to your situation in Oldenburg – transparent, fair and without hidden costs.
Loading space and parking when moving in Oldenburg
Anyone moving in Oldenburg city centre, in the Dobbenviertel or around Donnerschweer Straße knows the problem: parking spaces are scarce and the streets often narrow. So that the removal van can stand close to the front door on moving day, you need a parking restriction zone – more precisely, an exemption permit from the road traffic authority of the city of Oldenburg. This saves long carrying distances, spares backs and furniture and speeds up the process.
Around Haarenstraße, Julius-Mosen-Platz or the main station in particular there is a lot of traffic; the permit should be applied for early there. In residential areas with narrow cul-de-sacs, for example in parts of Kreyenbrück or Eversten, a clear space for the removal van also makes sense to avoid conflicts with residents and illegally parked cars on moving day.
- Informal application to the road traffic authority – in person, by post, fax or email
- State the address, date, time and required length of the space
- According to our price list, a parking restriction zone costs €30 to €100 per day
- Only use the space once the permit has been granted
According to the city, the municipal fee depends on the duration and scope of the permit; it does not state a fixed amount for moves. The city also does not publish a fixed deadline for the application – so submit it sooner rather than later. How the permit process works and who grants it is set out below in the section on the exemption permit. This way you avoid stress with illegally parked cars and delays when loading and unloading.
Between Oldenburg, Lower Saxony and Berlin: long-distance moves
Via the A28 to Bremen and Leer and the A29 to Wilhelmshaven and the Ahlhorner Heide interchange (connection to the A1), Oldenburg is well connected to the trunk road network. From Oldenburg to our base on Stromstraße in Berlin-Moabit it is around 434 road kilometres. For long-distance moves our price list states from €4.10/km; the fixed price after a survey is binding.
We also handle moves between Oldenburg and other cities in Lower Saxony, for example to Hanover, Braunschweig, Osnabrück, Hildesheim or Göttingen. We set the route and arrival window beforehand.
We also plan moves to Salzgitter, Celle and Wolfsburg. For smaller volumes there is the affordable part load, where your goods travel with other transports on the same route.
- Fixed price after a survey, according to the price list from €4.10/km
- Route via the A28, A29 and A1 planned in advance
- Can be combined with a parking restriction zone at the destination
- Part load for smaller volumes
However far the journey – we take care of packing, transport and delivery to the new home and keep you informed about the arrival window.

Office and company moves in Oldenburg
As the home of numerous companies, public authorities and the university, Oldenburg is an important business location in north-west Lower Saxony. An office move in Oldenburg has particular requirements: short downtimes, sensitive IT infrastructure and often ongoing business operations during the moving phase.
Oldenburg is home to, among others, the energy supplier EWE, the photo service provider CEWE and the IT consultancy BTC, plus authorities such as the main customs office and numerous law firms and practices in the city centre. A new neighbourhood is also being built on the former air base. For every site we draw up a moving concept that disrupts ongoing operations as little as possible.
- Move planning outside core working hours or at the weekend
- Professional assembly and dismantling of office furniture, server cabinets and partition walls
- Labelling system for a quick restart at the new location
- Discreet handling of sensitive documents and IT equipment
Especially for office buildings with limited delivery zones, precise scheduling is decisive. We therefore draw up a detailed schedule in advance, including an access check and, if necessary, a parking restriction zone directly in front of the office building.
Whether a small architecture practice in the city centre or a larger business spread over several floors in an industrial estate – we make sure your office move in Oldenburg runs smoothly and that business can continue at the new location as quickly as possible.
Student moves in Oldenburg: process and simple booking
With the Carl von Ossietzky University and the Jade University of Applied Sciences, Oldenburg is a real student city. Every semester, many young people move into rooms in shared flats around Haarentor and Wechloy or into the halls of residence near the campus. Our student move is specially tailored to small budgets and manageable volumes.
Typical are moves from a flat in Bümmerstede or Ohmstede to a new room in a shared flat near the university, often with a tight time window between moving out and the start of semester. For this we offer compact vehicles, flexible dates and the option of a part load to reduce costs further.
Booking with us could not be simpler:
- Short enquiry by phone, email or online form with details of the volume and your preferred date
- Free assessment, with a virtual survey of the flat if needed
- Binding fixed-price offer without hidden costs
- Date confirmation including agreement on parking options or a parking restriction zone
- Carrying out the move with our team from Berlin, including assembly and dismantling
For senior moves from Oldenburg, for example when moving to an accessible flat, we offer the same structured booking process – just with particular attention to consideration and care. Whether a first-year student in Wechloy or someone who has lived in the city centre for many years: after the date is confirmed, you receive a fixed contact person from us who coordinates the entire process. This makes your move in Oldenburg a predictable, stress-free process from the first enquiry to the last box.
Moving in Oldenburg: exemption permit for parking and loading space
Anyone in Oldenburg who wants to park a removal van directly in front of the door should contact the city's road traffic authority. According to the city of Oldenburg's service portal, this authority can grant exemptions from stopping and parking rules. A move is expressly named there as a possible reason. The application is informal and can be made in person, by post, by fax or by email. State the address, date, time and required length of the space so that the authority can set the scope.
You should know these points before moving day:
- The exemption may only be used once it has actually been granted.
- The scope set by the road traffic authority may not be exceeded.
- The city checks in each individual case whether a permit is granted. According to the city, there are no generally binding commitments.
- The fee depends on the period of validity, scope of validity and other criteria. The city does not state a fixed amount for moves.
Questions are answered by the city of Oldenburg's ServiceCenter on 0441 235-4444, Monday to Friday between 7 am and 6 pm. Submit the application sooner rather than later so that you have clarity in good time. You can find out how we plan a clear space for the removal van under parking restriction zone. Information on costs and districts can be found in our moving guide for Oldenburg.
Oldenburg's districts: city centre, Eversten and Kreyenbrück at a glance
The city of Oldenburg divides its statistics into nine statistical districts, each grouping several residential areas. According to the city's statistics, district 1 (city centre) includes Zentrum, Dobben, Haarenesch, Bahnhofsviertel and Gerichtsviertel, among others. Donnerschwee lies in district 3 together with Bürgeresch. Eversten belongs to district 5, which also includes Hundsmühler Höhe, Thomasburg, Bloherfelde, Haarentor and Wechloy. Kreyenbrück forms district 9 with Bümmerstede, Tweelbäke West, Krusenbusch and Drielakermoor.
For your offer, the district name matters less than the situation at the house. We therefore ask about these points:
- floor and lift in a period or new building,
- length of the carrying routes from the entrance to the vehicle,
- access and standing space for the removal van.
Bulky waste often builds up before a move. According to the city of Oldenburg's service portal, the waste management company organises collection by bulky waste card or online. The city states €25 for regular and €50 for express collection there, and the total volume is limited to 4 cubic metres. Check prices and deadlines on the waste management company's page before booking. If you are moving to Eversten or Kreyenbrück, it is best to discuss access and stopping options for the removal van with us in advance, ideally with photos of the street.
You can find all places in the state on our Lower Saxony overview. If you are planning further east, take a look at the page on Hanover.
