Your questions about moving in Braunschweig
The costs depend on the size of the flat and the effort: a 1-room flat starts at €354, a 2-room flat from €609 and a 3-room flat from €909. Additional services such as a parking restriction zone or clearance are charged separately.
Moving in Braunschweig: the process between the Okerumflut and the Ringgebiet
A move in Braunschweig comes with its own tasks. With around 253,000 inhabitants, the lion city is the second-largest city in Lower Saxony and combines a historic city centre around Altstadtmarkt and the cathedral with residential areas along the Ringgebiete and the Oker. Anyone moving from the Östliches or Westliches Ringgebiet to a residential area on the edge of the city has to reckon with narrow streets, a lot of cycle traffic and limited parking – factors we take into account in planning from the outset.
We are a moving company from Berlin (Stromstraße 21, Moabit); for your move, the team travels around 231 kilometres via the A2. The process begins with a free survey by video or by arrangement, in which we check the scope, floor, lift and access. We then draw up a fixed-price offer without hidden costs. On moving day our team takes care of packing, transport and assembly in the new flat. Especially in the city centre, with many period buildings without a lift, we plan enough carriers for several floors.
The location on the A2, A39 and A36 also plays a role: many Braunschweig residents move to Wolfsburg, Hanover or other regions for work, while students and families often move within the city between districts such as Weststadt, Gliesmarode or Stöckheim. For each of these situations we offer suitable solutions – from the classic private move to transport to another region. Our goal is a move that is as stress-free as possible, whether a small single flat in the Östliches Ringgebiet or a detached house in Melverode. We check one-way streets, parking rules and the city's deadlines for your address in advance; this saves time, nerves and money on moving day.
Districts and residential areas in Braunschweig
Braunschweig is divided into numerous districts of very different character, which has a direct impact on planning a move. The Östliches Ringgebiet and the Westliches Ringgebiet are popular, densely built residential quarters with many period buildings from the Gründerzeit – a parking restriction zone often makes sense here to secure the lorry and access routes. The Weststadt is a large residential area where the Westpark has been developing since 1980; here, access depends heavily on the individual address.
Those who prefer a quieter setting often move to Melverode-Heidberg or Broitzem, where detached and semi-detached houses dominate. Gliesmarode and Volkmarode in the east have their own village centres; Gliesmarode has its own railway station. The areas of Veltenhof-Rühme and Stöckheim-Leiferde lie somewhat outside and are well suited to moves with larger furniture, as there is usually more room for removal vans.
| District | Character | Typical residents |
|---|---|---|
| City centre | Historic, narrow lanes | Singles, working people |
| Östliches Ringgebiet | Period buildings, densely built | Students, young couples |
| Weststadt | Residential area by the Westpark | Families |
| Gliesmarode | Own railway station, quiet | Couples, families |
| Melverode-Heidberg | Detached houses | Families, seniors |
| Stöckheim-Leiferde | Outskirts, plenty of space | Larger households |
Whatever district you live in or want to move to: we set the vehicle size, team size and parking plan individually for each location after the survey.
Moving costs in Braunschweig: transparent prices
The moving costs in Braunschweig depend on several factors: the size of the flat, the floor, the distance between the old and new address, and any additional services required, such as a parking restriction zone or piano transport. As a rule of thumb: the more central the location, for example in the city centre or the Östliches Ringgebiet, the more important it becomes to organise parking space, which can have a slight effect on the final price.
| Flat size | Price from | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1-room flat | €354 | Studio in the Weststadt |
| 2-room flat | €609 | Period flat in the Ringgebiet |
| 3-room flat | €909 | Family flat in Melverode |
| Long-distance move | from €4.20/km | Braunschweig – Hanover |
Our prices are transparent fixed prices without hidden extra costs. After a short survey – in person or by video – you receive a binding offer. Additional services such as clearance of old furniture or a part load for smaller transports can be added flexibly.
Especially for moves within Braunschweig, for example from Volkmarode to Stöckheim, distance usually plays a minor role because the city is compact. For moves with special requirements, for example for seniors or with very bulky furniture, we recommend a thorough survey in advance to avoid surprises on moving day. This way you keep full control over the costs of your move in Braunschweig from the start.
Parking restriction zone in Braunschweig: allow three weeks' lead time
Anyone moving in Braunschweig city centre, in the Östliches Ringgebiet or around the Magniviertel knows the problem: parking spaces are scarce, streets are often narrow and residents' parking zones are regulated. A parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) is often necessary here to secure space for the lorry and the loading zone on moving day. According to the city, the road traffic department (Abteilung Straßenverkehr) is responsible; the city does not provide the signs – the applicant obtains and puts them up, for example through a moving company.
According to our price list, a parking restriction zone costs between €30 and €100 per day depending on zone and duration; the city itself states a daily fee of €25. In busy areas such as Bohlweg, early planning is especially important. The city requires the application at least three weeks before the move, regardless of the district.
- Application at least three weeks in advance, online or by post
- Put up signs at least four days before the move
- Keep a record of the sign placement
- In the pedestrian zone, an exemption permit is also needed between 11 am and 6 pm
Especially for moves with a tight schedule or bulky items such as a piano transport, a secured loading zone is worth its weight in gold. Without a parking restriction zone, you risk long carrying distances, extra time and conflicts with other road users. We match the date and loading time to the approved zone, so that on moving day you can concentrate on what matters: your new home in Braunschweig.
Braunschweig, Berlin and the region: moves via the A2 and A39
Braunschweig lies on the A2, A39 and A36 motorways and has a port connected to the Mittelland Canal. This makes moves in many directions easier. It is around 231 road kilometres via the A2 to our base on Stromstraße in Berlin-Moabit. Hanover is also on the A2, and Wolfsburg can be reached via the A39 – convenient for job-related moves, for example in the automotive industry.
Other destinations in the region: Salzgitter borders directly on Braunschweig, plus Wolfsburg, Celle and Hildesheim. We also plan moves to Göttingen, Hanover, Osnabrück and Oldenburg with you.
For long-distance moves our price list states from €4.20 per kilometre; the fixed price after a survey is binding, matched to the loading space and route. For smaller volumes, such as individual items of furniture or boxes, we also offer an affordable part load, where your goods are carried together with other transports on the same route.
Whether you are moving for a new job, a university place or for family reasons – we plan the route, breaks and arrival window in advance so that the move is completed on schedule and on fair terms, whether the route is short or long.
Moving services for Braunschweig at a glance
As a moving company from Berlin-Moabit, we offer a wide range of services in Braunschweig, tailored to different needs – from a student flat-share in the Östliches Ringgebiet to a company headquarters at the port on the Mittelland Canal.
- Private move – for flats and houses of any size, including packing and furniture assembly
- Office move – for offices, practices and businesses with minimal downtime
- Part load – cost-effective transport of smaller volumes on existing routes
- Clearance – professional clearing of cellars, attics and entire flats
- Parking restriction zone – planning the loading zone according to the city's deadlines
- Piano transport – safe transport of upright and grand pianos with suitable securing

We adapt each of these services to your address after the survey. In the narrow streets of period buildings in the city centre we use smaller, manoeuvrable vehicles, while for larger moves on the outskirts such as Veltenhof or Rühme we arrive with larger lorries and more staff. Our aim: every move in Braunschweig should be structured, transparent and free of unpleasant surprises – from the first survey to the last box in the new flat.
Planning an office or company move in Braunschweig
Braunschweig is an important business and research location in Lower Saxony. With TU Braunschweig, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (national metrology institute) and the headquarters of Volkswagen Financial Services AG, science and industry shape the city in equal measure. For companies in this environment we offer a professional office move designed for minimal disruption to operations.
Especially at locations such as the port on the Mittelland Canal, the research airport or in industrial estates along the A39, short standing times and smooth logistics are decisive. We plan office moves in Braunschweig in detail beforehand: from dismantling and transporting sensitive IT infrastructure and labelling files to reassembly at the new location on schedule.
- Moves outside regular business hours possible
- Safe handling of servers, files and technical equipment
- Coordination with IT service providers and facility management
- Planning parking restriction zones according to the city's deadlines
Smaller practices and law firms in the city centre or the Magniviertel also benefit from planning that takes narrow access routes and limited parking times into account in advance. For businesses that also want to get rid of old office furniture or files, we offer additional clearance, so that the new location can be occupied tidy from day one.
Whether a start-up in one of the technology parks around TU Braunschweig or an established company in the industrial area – we make sure your office move goes smoothly, discreetly and on schedule, so that operations at the new location can continue without a long interruption.
Student moves in Braunschweig & how booking works
With TU Braunschweig, the oldest technical university in Germany, and the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (University of Art), Braunschweig is a lively student city. Many students live in the Östliches Ringgebiet, around Rebenring or on Wilhelmstraße, and move several times during their studies – often on a small budget and a tight schedule. Our student move is tailored to exactly that: quick, straightforward and inexpensive, ideal for rooms in shared flats or small apartments near the university.
Booking a move with Praktik Transport und Umzüge takes just a few simple steps:
- Free survey by video call or by arrangement
- Individual fixed-price offer without hidden costs
- Appointment scheduling, adapted to lecture periods or semester breaks
- Carrying out the move with our team from Berlin
- Optional additional services such as a parking restriction zone or clearance
Especially at the change of semester in October or April, demand for student moves in Braunschweig is particularly high. We therefore recommend enquiring early to secure your preferred date. For seniors planning a move into assisted living, our senior move also offers particularly sensitive support.
Whether a small student room in the Ringgebiet, a family flat in Melverode or an office in the industrial area – the process always stays transparent: send an enquiry, receive an offer, book a date, move in a relaxed way. Simply contact us by phone or via our online form, and we will take care of the rest of your move in Braunschweig.
Parking restriction for your move in Braunschweig: deadline, fee and signs
On its service portal, the city of Braunschweig describes the “setting up of parking restrictions for a move”. According to this, the application must be submitted at least three weeks before the move. A parking restriction is only set up if there is actually a parking option at the location. The road traffic department (Abteilung Straßenverkehr) in the civil engineering and transport division is responsible.
- Details in the application: contact details, date and period of the move, location of the parking restriction zone or moving address, and the length of the area to be cordoned off in metres
- Documents: application form and a record of the placement of the parking restriction signs
- Fee: the city states a daily fee of €25.00; the fee notice is part of the permit and must be paid within four weeks
- Online: private individuals need a service account
You obtain the traffic signs yourself, for example from moving companies; the city neither provides signs nor puts them up. They must be in place at least four days before the moving date. The city points out that, according to the case law of the Federal Administrative Court, vehicles can only be towed three full calendar days after signs have been put up at short notice.
In a pedestrian zone you also need an exemption permit if the move is to take place between 11:00 and 18:00; outside these hours, according to the city, no permit is required. More about our offer: parking restriction zone.
Student moves in Braunschweig: TU semester dates and parking rules
For students, planning a move usually depends on the semester. On its “Semestertermine” page, the Technische Universität Braunschweig gives the start of lectures for the 2026/27 winter semester as Monday, 19 October 2026, and the end of lectures as Saturday, 6 February 2027. For the 2027 summer semester, lectures begin on Monday, 12 April 2027, and end on Saturday, 24 July 2027. Anyone wanting to move in at the start of semester should therefore secure the date and parking restriction early; according to the city, a parking restriction must be applied for at least three weeks in advance.
- Request a date at the change of semester early, because preferred days can then be booked up more quickly
- Halls of residence, studio or shared flat: state the floor, lift and carrying routes
- Few household goods: our student move offer is designed for manageable volumes
For parking, the city of Braunschweig refers to pages on parking management and mobile phone parking, as well as a map of delivery zones in the city's geoportal. Anyone living permanently in a residents' parking zone will find services relating to the residents' parking permit on the service portal, such as issuing and changing it. Anyone wanting to use delivery zones for loading and unloading can see their location in the geoportal; whether they are approved for a move is something you should ask the city beforehand. Further information about your new home is available in the article Living in Braunschweig; the regional overview is under Lower Saxony.
