From Berlin to Steyr: route tolls and schedule

Journey to Steyr
Via Prague and Linz to Steyr: how the journey works
Route, tolls, deadlines
A move to Steyr is a move abroad within the EU: there is no customs duty on your household goods, but the route, tolls and registration deadlines do need planning. From our address on Stromstraße it is 636 kilometres according to OpenStreetMap routing – via the A13 to Dresden, the A17 and the Czech D8 towards Prague, on via České Budějovice into the Mühlviertel, on the A7 near Linz and finally via the A1 and the B309 to Steyr. For private customers we plan this as a home move with packing, transport and assembly.
For a lorry that is around eight and a half hours of pure driving time plus the mandatory 45-minute break after 4.5 hours – a long but manageable driving day. That is why loading often takes place in Berlin the day before. We quote the fixed price after the survey; tolls in the Czech Republic and Austria are included. We are liable for your removal goods under the German Commercial Code (HGB); additional insurance is possible on request. Call us on 01625978461.

How we plan the route to Steyr
Driving time, tolls, loading window
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21, Moabit) and drive long-distance moves nationwide and abroad, including to Upper Austria. For Steyr we set the departure day so that the 636 kilometres stay within the daily driving time of nine hours. Vehicles over 3.5 t pay tolls in the Czech Republic and on Austrian motorways and expressways (in Austria the GO toll) – this is included in the fixed price. Liability is under the German Commercial Code (HGB). We answer questions by phone on 01625978461.

What
must be settled before departing for Steyr
This guide covers the journey: within the EU you do not need a customs declaration for your household goods, although an inventory list still helps with insurance. More important are the deadlines – deregistration in Berlin, Meldezettel in Steyr within three days – and the process on moving day with loading, 636 kilometres of driving and unloading. Our second guide describes residential areas and everyday life in Steyr; you will find the route as a service on our long-distance moves page.

Questions about the journey to Steyr
No customs, but deadlines: papers for Steyr
Germany and Austria belong to the European Union, and the transit route through the Czech Republic is also in the EU. There is therefore no customs duty on your household goods, and no customs declaration is needed. An inventory list is still worthwhile – for your own overview and for insurance. In Berlin you deregister if you are not moving into a new flat in Germany, no later than two weeks after moving out (§ 17 (2) BMG).
In Steyr, according to the city, you register within three days of moving in with the Meldezettel, which the accommodation provider signs – at the registration office at Stadtplatz 27 or online with ID Austria. A vehicle that you use with your main residence in Austria must be registered there; clarify the deadline for this with the registration authority.
The route: A13, Prague, Linz and B309
From Stromstraße the route runs via the A13 to Dresden and the A17 to the Czech border, then on the D8 towards Prague. Beyond Prague it continues on road No. 3 through South Bohemia into the Mühlviertel, on the A7 near Linz and via the A1 to the B309, which has connected Steyr to the motorway since 2010. In total that is 636 kilometres, around eight and a half hours of pure driving time for a lorry.
With the mandatory 45-minute break after 4.5 hours, the journey stays below the daily driving time of nine hours. We therefore usually load the day before, set off early and unload in Steyr in the afternoon. Vehicles over 3.5 t pay tolls in the Czech Republic and the GO toll on motorways and expressways in Austria; both are included in the quote.
Guide prices for the move to Steyr
We want you to know in advance what to expect: 1-room flat from €344, 2-room flat from €579, 3-room flat from €884, 4-room flat from €1,289. For a house or villa we always draw up an individual quote, as size and effort vary greatly here. If a long-distance move is due, we charge from €4.10/km. The most transparent option is a free survey at your home.
What determines the price for the route
The final price is made up of several factors: the volume, the distance to be covered (from €4.10/km) and local conditions such as the floor and lift. A parking restriction zone may also be necessary. Additional services such as furniture assembly or part load round off the offer.

The Berlin–Steyr route at a glance
Our page Move from Berlin to Steyr summarises the route, driving time and process; further destinations can be found in the overview of service areas and under Long-distance moves.
Steyr: parking, traffic rules and access to the Stadtplatz
For Steyr, the city has set up the sections "Parken in Steyr" (parking in Steyr) and "Verkehrsregeln" (traffic rules) in the Mobility menu of its website. We found no specific information there on a parking restriction for moves or on access to the Stadtplatz. This means no deadline or fee can be documented either. So clarify early, directly with the municipal authority of Steyr (Magistrat), whether a permit is needed for your destination address.
The municipal authority can be reached in the town hall at Stadtplatz 27, 4400 Steyr, telephone +43 7252 575. The city offers a contact form and appointment booking.
How we support you:
- Before the survey, we ask whether your street is narrow, a pedestrian zone or a zone with restricted access.
- We plan the parking position and loading window for the lorry so that loading and unloading are possible without obstructing traffic.
- We agree any necessary permits with you in good time before the date.
Please obtain information from the authority in writing where possible and have it ready on moving day, so that the driver and carriers have everything important to hand if questions arise on site. How we secure the loading zone is explained under Parking restriction zone. Local and district information can be found in the moving guide for Steyr.
Steyr: residents’ registration, appointments and the process at the destination
On the city's website, the section "Meldewesen" (residents' registration) belongs to living in Steyr. The new residence is registered using the Meldezettel. Under the Registration Act, a deadline of three days after moving into the accommodation applies throughout Austria, and the Meldezettel needs two signatures: your own and that of the accommodation provider, i.e. the landlord. A tenancy agreement does not replace this signature. Whether additional rules apply in Steyr you can clarify via the city's "Meldewesen" page or with the municipal authority.
In the municipal authority section, the City of Steyr also refers to office hours for the public and appointment booking. It is best to reserve the appointment before the move so that it falls in the first few days after moving in.
For the process at the destination we recommend:
- Before the move: clarify the flat handover, key appointment and access to the lift or stairwell with the property management.
- On moving day: keep the loading zone clear, protect access routes, place furniture according to the room plan.
- After the move: have the Meldezettel signed, attend the registration appointment, report changes of address to banks, insurers and your employer.
If the new flat is not yet ready to move into, we offer interim storage. Further steps after arrival can be read in the article Moving to Austria: customs, formalities and process.
