Returning to Germany
Moving back to Germany: customs, registration and a fresh start
Guide
If you are returning after years abroad, the first thing to clarify when moving back to Germany is where your household goods are coming from. From an EU country, the move is customs-free – there are no customs formalities for furniture and boxes. From a non-EU country, removal goods (Übersiedlungsgut) can be imported duty-free if you lived there for at least twelve months, have used the items for at least six months and will continue to use them yourself.
After arrival, the same deadline applies as for any move: within two weeks of moving in, you register with the registration office, with the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). When your household goods from abroad arrive in Berlin or need to be stored temporarily, we take care of transport, storage and assembly; more under International move.

Plan your arrival in Berlin
Fixed price on request, storage if needed
Call us on 01625978461. We discuss where your household goods are coming from and when, and then quote a fixed price. If the new flat is not yet free, we store things in the meantime and deliver on moving-in day; storage appears as a separate item in the quote. We plan the rest together with you.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

What we take care of when you move back
And what you clarify yourself
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and, when you move back, handle the transport of your household goods, dismantling and assembly, and on request packing, parking restriction and storage if the new flat is not yet free. You clarify the customs declaration, registration with the registration office, health insurance and tax yourself or with specialists. We are liable for your household goods under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre; additional insurance is available.

Six points for your return
You should clarify these six points early when moving back to Germany – from customs to the first week in the new flat. The earlier you clarify them, the less storage and waiting time there is – and the sooner the new flat feels like home.
From the EU: no customs
From non-EU countries: removal goods

Only a few boxes coming back?

Before,
on arrival, afterwards
A move back to Germany has three parts: customs and transport beforehand, arrival and assembly in the new flat, registration and insurance afterwards. If you are returning from a neighbouring country, you will find country-specific advice, for example, in the article Poland: moving checklist and the articles on Austria, the Czech Republic or the Netherlands; for routes within Germany there are our long-distance moves.

Questions about moving back to Germany
How a move back to Germany works
First clarify where the household goods are coming from. From an EU country there are no customs formalities; from a non-EU country you declare the removal goods to customs, with an inventory list and proof of residence and period of use. Transport, arrival and assembly follow.
When the household goods arrive in Berlin, we handle transport to the door and assembly, with storage if needed. You then register within two weeks.
Costs and ways to save
The costs depend on volume, route and extras such as storage; you will find our price per kilometre in the price overview. We quote the fixed price on request. You can save above all on volume: whatever is sold or given away abroad does not have to come back. For a few items within Germany, a shared load can be cheaper. Plan for storage costs in case the household goods and the flat are not available at the same time.
The most important moving prices at a glance
In a nutshell: 1 room costs from €375, 2 rooms from €584, 3 rooms from €899 and 4 rooms from €1,289. If you live in a house or a villa, you always receive an individual quote after a survey. For long-distance moves, a price per kilometre from €4.10 applies. Feel free to use the free survey to discuss all the details.
