New in Saxony's Largest City: How to Settle In Well in Leipzig
The first few weeks
Leipzig is the most populous city in Saxony and, with a good 615,000 inhabitants, the seventh-largest city in Germany. It is divided into 10 boroughs with 63 localities and is a centre for trade fairs, universities and logistics. This guide sorts out the first weeks: registration at the citizens' office (Bürgerbüro), choosing a locality, public transport, nursery and parking. We handle the transport as a home removal with packing and assembly.
We are not a Leipzig company: we come from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and carry out moves to Leipzig and back. Your belongings are covered under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per m³), with additional insurance on request. Route and driving time are on the page Moving Berlin – Leipzig. Whether a parking restriction zone is needed in front of the new address is something we clarify with you during the survey, along with floor, carrying distance and the delivery day.

Call us on 01625978461 and receive a personal quote for your move to Leipzig. We calculate based on belongings, distance, floor and carrying distance; after the survey the fixed price is set. Your belongings are covered under the HGB, and additional insurance is available.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

Before Moving Day in Leipzig
Parking restriction, old building, date
We come from Berlin and bring your household goods to Leipzig. Before moving day we clarify with you whether a parking restriction zone is needed in front of the new address and how much lead time the city requires, how narrow the stairwell and front door are in the Gründerzeit-era old building and whether a furniture lift makes sense. We set the price after the survey (fixed price), and your belongings are covered under the HGB. Registering at the citizens' office remains your appointment – we schedule the move-in so that the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) is ready in time.

Leipzig
for newcomers
New in Leipzig, many questions come up at once: can I go to the citizens' office without an appointment, or is it better to register online? Is my street in a residents' parking area? How does the statement of need work in the nursery portal, and which locality suits my commute? We have summarised the City of Leipzig's information below. For the move itself we advise you on schedule, parking restriction and packing so that everything fits on moving-in day in your new Leipzig home.

Frequently Asked Questions About Living in Leipzig
63 Localities: Gründerzeit, Large Estates, Lake District
Leipzig is divided into 10 boroughs with 63 localities. The large Gründerzeit-era quarters are characteristic: the Waldstraßenviertel between the city centre and the Rosental is considered one of the few completely preserved Gründerzeit residential areas in Germany; Gohlis, the Südvorstadt along Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, Connewitz, Schleußig and Plagwitz also have many old buildings. Between 1960 and 1980, large housing estates such as Grünau and Paunsdorf were built.
There is plenty of greenery: the Leipzig floodplain forest (Auwald) runs through the city, and in the south the Leipzig New Lake District is emerging from flooded open-cast mines such as Lake Cospuden. We deliberately do not quote reliable rent figures – compare offers in the same locality, pay attention to service charges and check the route and connections before you sign. Popular old-building locations are often taken quickly.
Working, Studying and Culture in Leipzig
After reunification, large industrial companies settled in Leipzig, including Porsche, BMW and Siemens. The city is also a logistics centre: at Leipzig/Halle Airport, DHL operates its European air hub, and Amazon runs a large logistics centre. The university hospital employs more than 4,000 people.
Leipzig University, founded in 1409, is one of the three oldest in Germany; the HHL is the country's oldest business school. Culturally, the Gewandhaus, the St Thomas Boys Choir (Thomanerchor) and the trade fair shape the city; with HTWK and other colleges, Leipzig is a major student city. Important for everyday life: trams and buses of the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe and six S-Bahn lines running through the City Tunnel serve the city and surrounding area as far as Halle. The main station is the largest terminus station in Europe by floor area and an important ICE hub. We schedule the moving date to match the flat handover.
Moving prices by flat size
The price range for a move is wide and depends on many factors. In principle, our prices start at €349 for a 1-room flat, €599 for a 2-room flat, €899 for a 3-room flat and €1,269 for a 4-room flat. Larger properties such as a house or villa are calculated individually. For a long-distance move we charge from €3.80/km. Use our free survey to get clarity about your costs.
What determines the moving price
Your moving price depends on the volume, the distance (from €3.80/km), the floor and whether there is a lift. A parking restriction zone can also incur additional costs. If needed, we add furniture assembly or a shared load.

Everyday Life in Leipzig: Residents' Parking and Nursery Places via the Parents' Portal
Whether your street is in a residents' parking area is shown by the City of Leipzig with a search tool into which you enter street and house number; it covers all streets in the city. According to the city, you apply for the residents' parking permit at the public order office (Ordnungsamt), permits section (the legal basis is § 45 (1b) no. 2a StVO). Details on requirements and fees are on the city's service page; check them before you apply.
For children, nursery places are searched for and booked via the parents' portal meinkitaplatz-leipzig.de. According to the city, after registering in the portal you submit a statement of need listing five preferred facilities. Leipzig has around 270 day-care centres, 51 of them municipal. You can reach the nursery place advice service on 0341 123-1233 or at [email protected], with personal advice on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Apply for a reduced parental contribution or a free place at leipzig.de/elternbeitrag; if you change facility, a new application is required, at the latest by the first day of care.
According to the city, if your child is cared for in a municipality other than where you live, you submit an application for care in another municipality (information: 0341 123-4355). Private facilities are not funded by the city. It is best to plan registration, the nursery statement of need and the parking permit right after moving in. Our offers are under Moving Leipzig.
