Moving in the mining town: process and special features in Freiberg
Praktik Transport und Umzüge comes from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and handles moves in Freiberg, the mining town and county seat of the Mittelsachsen district. Freiberg, known as the „Silver Town“ and home to the TU Bergakademie Freiberg founded in 1765, combines historic charm with modern residential infrastructure – a combination that brings a few special features to a move. Since 2019 the historic town centre has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region; many listed town houses there have no lift. That is why we clarify access around Obermarkt, the Petriviertel and Untermarkt with the cathedral in advance and plan every private move so that delivery times, loading zones and carrying distances are taken into account as well as possible.
A typical move in Freiberg starts with a free survey or virtual estimate of your belongings. We then prepare a transparent fixed-price quote that takes account of the floor, distance and additional services. On moving day, the team from Berlin takes care of packing, transport and assembly in the new flat on request.
- Free survey on site or online
- Individual fixed-price quote with no hidden costs
- The team travels from Berlin via the A13 and A4
- Dates by arrangement, with lead time for the parking restriction
Freiberg lies between Chemnitz and Dresden, each around 31 kilometres away as the crow flies; you reach the A4 via the Siebenlehn junction, and the B 173 and B 101 lead to the neighbouring towns. Whether a student flat, a family home in Zug or company premises on an industrial estate – we ensure a smooth process from the first enquiry to the last box.
From the Oberstadt to Kleinwaltersdorf – residential areas in Freiberg
According to Wikipedia, Freiberg is divided into eight districts: the Altstadt, Freiberg-Nord, -Ost, -Süd and -West, as well as Halsbach, Kleinwaltersdorf and Zug. Building stock, transport links and parking differ considerably – which is crucial for a smooth move in Freiberg, as vehicle size, parking restriction and carrying distances depend on them.
The Altstadt, with the upper and lower town around Obermarkt, Untermarkt and the Petriviertel, is characterised by historic town houses, often with narrow stairwells and no lift – careful planning is a must here. In Freiberg-Nord, with Friedeburg and Loßnitz, villa colonies mix with residential buildings from the 1980s and 1990s. The Wasserberg (Freiberg-West) and Seilerberg (Freiberg-Süd) estates were built between the 1960s and 1980s. Zug, Kleinwaltersdorf and Halsbach are more rural and usually offer more parking space for the removal van.
| District/location | Residential character | What to note when moving |
|---|---|---|
| Altstadt (Obermarkt, Petriviertel) | Historic town houses | Little space, a parking restriction is often useful |
| Freiberg-Nord (Friedeburg, Loßnitz) | Villas and residential buildings from the 1980s/90s | Clarify floor and lift in advance |
| Wasserberg / Seilerberg | Estates from the 1960s–1980s | Check parking space in front of the building |
| Zug / Kleinwaltersdorf / Halsbach | Rural residential area | More parking space, longer approach |
Whether you are moving into a student room near the Bergakademie, a flat on the Wasserberg or an office in the industrial area on Leipziger Straße – because our team travels from Berlin, we clarify access and parking rules in advance and plan the move to suit your location.
Moving costs in Freiberg: prices & influencing factors
Moving costs in Freiberg depend on several factors: flat size, floor, the distance between the old and new address, and any additional services you want, such as packing or furniture assembly. As a moving company from Berlin, we calculate transparently and with no hidden costs – you always receive a binding fixed-price quote from us.
| Flat size | Price from | Typical customers |
|---|---|---|
| 1-room flat | from €359 | Students, singles |
| 2-room flat | from €615 | Couples, young professionals |
| 3-room flat | from €884 | Families |
| Long-distance move (per km) | from €3.90/km | Moves outside Saxony |
| Parking restriction zone (per day) | €30–100 | City-centre and Altstadt locations |
Additional costs can arise from moves to upper floors without a lift, bulky furniture or particularly valuable items. For delicate instruments we offer dedicated piano transport with appropriate securing. If you only want to transport a few pieces of furniture, you can use our affordable part-load transport – ideal for smaller moves or students at the Bergakademie Freiberg.
Disposing of old furniture or a complete household clearance can also easily be combined with our clearance service. For older residents planning a move to a senior-friendly flat, we recommend our sensitive senior move service, which is designed around calm and consideration. Simply request an individual quote – we will gladly advise you on all the price details for your move in Freiberg.
Parking restriction zone & parking when moving in Freiberg
Anyone moving in Freiberg's Altstadt or in densely built residential areas knows the problem: scarce parking and narrow streets make loading and unloading the removal van difficult. The parking situation is particularly tight around Obermarkt and Untermarkt, as the historic buildings leave hardly any parking spaces. To make sure your moving day runs smoothly, the parking restriction zone should be applied for early from the city's road traffic authority at Heubnerstraße 15.
An approved parking restriction zone keeps the loading area directly in front of your door clear and spares you an annoying search for parking with a fully loaded removal van. Depending on location and duration, a parking restriction zone costs between 30 and 100 euros per day. The City of Freiberg lists these steps:
- Application at least 14 days before the move begins, informally or online via Amt24
- Details of location, area, duration and an overview sketch
- Put up traffic signs at least three to four days before the move
- If there is no space in front of the building, apply for a nearby area
In residential areas such as Friedeburg, Loßnitz or around the Bergakademie campus, a parking restriction zone can also be useful if student halls or blocks of flats have little parking of their own. In Zug, Kleinwaltersdorf or Halsbach, with more road space, a separate permit is often not needed; however, if a furniture lift blocks the pavement, a parking restriction must be applied for, according to the city.
You will find more information on the process, costs and application deadlines on our parking restriction zone page. We recommend allowing at least two weeks before the moving date for the application, so that the signs can be put up in time and your move in Freiberg starts without parking stress.
From Freiberg to Dresden, Chemnitz – and to Berlin
Freiberg is connected to the A4 via the Siebenlehn junction, one of Germany's most important east-west routes; this also makes a long-distance move from Freiberg easier. The B 173 leads to Chemnitz and Dresden, while Leipzig is reached via the B 101 and, from Nossen-Ost, the A14. It is around 238 road kilometres via the A4 and A13 to our base in Berlin-Moabit.
We calculate our prices for long-distance moves transparently from 3.90 euros per kilometre, depending on moving volume and additional services such as packing or assembly. For smaller quantities or single pieces of furniture we also offer affordable part-load transport, where your belongings are transported together with other consignments.
As a Berlin company, we also handle moves between Freiberg and other Saxon cities, for example to:
- Dresden – state capital, around 31 km as the crow flies
- Chemnitz – also around 31 km as the crow flies
- Leipzig – trade fair city, around 82 km as the crow flies
- Zwickau – reachable via the A4/A72
- Plauen – south-western Saxony
- Görlitz – Saxony's easternmost town
Whether a move within Saxony or a long-distance move across Germany – we plan the route, stopovers and delivery times so that your belongings arrive safely and on time.

Freiberg's building stock ranges from listed houses in the Altstadt to the estates on the Wasserberg and Seilerberg and the villas in Friedeburg. Every property has its own requirements for packing, means of transport and carrying distances, which we take into account individually.
Besides the transport itself, we also take care of furniture assembly, dismantling and installing kitchens and properly packing fragile items on request. That way, at Praktik Transport und Umzüge you get everything from a single source for every move in Freiberg – whether small or large.
Office and company moves in Freiberg
Freiberg is known not only for its historic Altstadt but also as a business and research location around the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Businesses are found, for example, east of Leipziger Straße in Freiberg-Nord, on Annaberger Straße in Zug and between Langenrinne and Seilerberg, where the solar industry has settled. For such businesses we offer an office move with minimal downtime.
An office move differs significantly from a private move: servers, files, IT infrastructure and sensitive laboratory equipment – especially at companies linked to the Bergakademie – must be dismantled, transported and reassembled with particular care. We plan the process so that your business can resume as quickly as possible.
- Detailed move planning including a schedule and contacts
- Dismantling and assembling office furniture, shelving systems and reception areas
- Safe transport of IT equipment, files and sensitive documents
- Moves at weekends or outside business hours possible
- Labelling and marking for structured reassembly
For doctors' practices, law firms or smaller shops in Freiberg's city centre, we also organise a parking restriction zone if needed, so that vans can load and unload directly in front of the entrance without disrupting surrounding traffic. If required, we also take care of the clearance of old office space, so that the previous premises can be handed over swept clean.
Whether a start-up near the Bergakademie or a medium-sized company on an industrial estate – we make sure your office move in Freiberg runs smoothly, discreetly and on schedule.
Student moves in Freiberg & easy booking of your move
As the home of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, the oldest existing university of mining and metallurgy in the world, the town is home to many students who often move at the start or end of the semester. Whether switching from a hall of residence to a flat share in the centre, moving within Freiberg or returning to their home town – our student move service is tailored to small budgets and tight time windows.
Typical student moves in Freiberg involve compact flats near the Altstadt, halls of residence around the campus and flat-share rooms in Friedeburg and Loßnitz. As many of these buildings have narrow stairwells and limited parking, we calculate fair fixed prices from 359 euros for smaller moves and, if needed, offer affordable part-load transport when only a few pieces of furniture need to be moved.
Booking your move with Praktik Transport und Umzüge could not be simpler:
- Send an enquiry – online, by phone or by email with the key details
- Survey or photo estimate – for a tailored quote
- Receive a fixed-price quote – transparent and with no hidden costs
- Fix the date – with lead time at the start of the semester, as the team travels from Berlin
- Have the move carried out – including loading, unloading and furniture assembly
Especially at the start and end of the semester, we recommend booking early, as demand for moving services in Freiberg is particularly high then. For students who also want to dispose of old furniture, we offer an uncomplicated clearance. Simply contact us for an individual quote – we look forward to supporting your next move in Freiberg professionally.
Parking restriction for a move in Freiberg (Saxony): road traffic authority and deadline
In Freiberg you apply for a parking restriction for removal transport from the road traffic authority of the city administration, Heubnerstraße 15, 09599 Freiberg. According to freiberg.de, the application is informal and can be submitted online via Amt24 Sachsen or directly to the authority. The legal basis is § 45 para. 6 of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO).
The city lists these details for the application: name and address, reason for the closure, location and area, duration and an overview sketch. Two deadlines are important. The application must be submitted at least 14 days before the move begins. Once approved, the zone must be set up with the prescribed traffic signs at least 3 to 4 days beforehand and maintained for the duration of the move.
A permit can be applied for if loading and unloading in moving traffic is not possible without problems, for example in a pedestrian zone. It must be applied for if the pavement is fully or partly blocked, for example by a furniture lift. According to the city, the fees depend on the extent of the restriction; additional costs may arise for the signs. The authority will tell you the exact amount.
According to the city, the authority is staffed on Tuesdays from 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 6 pm, on Thursdays from 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm, and on Fridays from 9 am to 12 noon (telephone 03731 273 363). You can read how we plan the zone for you under parking restriction zone.
Registration, ID card and residents' parking after moving to Freiberg
Anyone moving to Freiberg from elsewhere must register within two weeks of moving in, according to freiberg.de. The responsible office is the passport and registration authority (residents' affairs section) at Obermarkt 21. Registration is free of charge. You must bring your ID card or passport and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) from your landlord. Alternatively, you can register online with eID, BundID and the AusweisApp.
The office works by appointment, online or via the appointment line 03731 273 717. Appointments are available on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, and on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons as well. According to the city, anyone coming without an appointment should expect waiting times. The 14-day deadline also applies to moves within Freiberg.
Next comes the ID card: according to the city, changing the address on your ID card is free of charge and must be arranged without delay after changing your place of residence. The sticker with the new address arrives by post; you change the address on the chip via the AusweisApp.
If you have a car, you can also apply to the city for a residents' parking permit. Ask about conditions and fees directly at the road traffic law office (Heubnerstraße 15). You will find detailed information on residential areas and costs in our Freiberg moving guide; further locations in Saxony are listed under Saxony.
