Your questions about moving in Brandenburg

Answers on distance, costs, no-stopping zones and registration in Brandenburg – with reference to the information from the towns.

From our base in Berlin-Moabit it is around 35 road kilometres to Potsdam, via the A100 and the A115. On such short routes, travel costs are of little significance; according to the price list, prices for moves of one to three rooms start from €344.

Moves between Berlin and Brandenburg: what we plan

For moves in Brandenburg, Praktik Transport und Umzüge comes from Berlin: our base is at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit, and we have no branch in the state. From flats in Potsdam and prefab blocks in Cottbus to farmsteads in the Uckermark, we move households and offices on schedule and on clear terms. Brandenburg is closely intertwined with Berlin: many people move from the capital to the surrounding area or commute between the two states. For these routes we fix the route and arrival time in advance.

The requirements differ greatly: narrow old-town lanes in Brandenburg an der Havel, multi-lane federal roads in the commuter belt and long country roads in Lusatia or the Fläming call for different vehicles and team sizes. Whether a private move into a new flat, a company relocation to a business park near Schönefeld or a senior move into an assisted living complex – we plan every move individually and transparently.

In terms of area, Brandenburg is one of the larger federal states in Germany, with natural landscapes such as the Spreewald, the Fläming and the Schorfheide. At the same time, commuter-belt municipalities such as Falkensee, Oranienburg or Teltow have grown strongly thanks to their proximity to Berlin. For every route we decide in advance whether to take the A10, A11, A12, A13, A9 or A24, and take roadworks, congestion times and holiday traffic into account. From our base it is around 20 road kilometres to Falkensee, around 35 to Potsdam and around 132 to Cottbus. In this way your move in Brandenburg stays predictable – whether a short move within the municipality or a long-distance move across Germany.

Potsdam, Falkensee, Cottbus & co.: towns and regions

Brandenburg is divided into several regions of very different character, which are relevant for planning a move. The state capital Potsdam lies around 35 road kilometres south-west of our base in Berlin-Moabit and is connected via the A115 and several federal roads. Here palace gardens, listed period buildings and modern new developments such as Bornstedter Feld shape the townscape – each with its own requirements for parking and access.

In the west of the state lies Falkensee, a popular place to live for Berlin commuters with a direct connection via the A10 and the railway line to Berlin-Spandau. Further west you reach Brandenburg an der Havel, the town that gave the federal state its name, with a historic old town and narrow lanes that call for careful planning of the move.

North of Berlin, about 35 km away, lies Oranienburg on the A10 and A111, characterised by estates of detached houses and Oranienburg Palace. In the east of the state, near the Polish border, is Frankfurt (Oder), easily reached via the A12. Finally, in the south you will find Cottbus, the centre of Lusatia, around 130 km from Berlin via the A13.

We also handle moves to rural regions such as the Prignitz, the Havelland, the Uckermark and the Fläming. These areas are more sparsely populated, which is why travel routes and no-stopping zones have to be planned differently from those in densely built-up districts. Whether metropolitan region or rural municipality – our team from Berlin travels to the whole of the state and clarifies the logistical particularities of each address in advance.

Commuter belt, old town, countryside: special features in Brandenburg

A move in Brandenburg differs in many respects from a purely urban move in Berlin. First, the buildings: while in the commuter belt – for example in Falkensee, Teltow or Kleinmachnow – detached houses with garages and gardens often predominate, the old towns of Potsdam, Brandenburg an der Havel or Cottbus are dominated by narrow streets, listed façades and limited parking. Here a no-stopping zone is often necessary so that the removal vehicle can park right outside the door and long carrying distances are avoided.

In rural regions such as the Prignitz, the Fläming or the Uckermark, on the other hand, the distance between home and the nearest larger town plays a bigger role. Farmsteads, smallholdings and detached houses with large plots often require additional transport capacity for garden furniture, the contents of tool sheds or even pianos – this is where our piano transport may be needed.

The transport infrastructure also differs considerably: the A10, as the Berlin ring road, connects the most important surrounding municipalities, while regions such as the Spreewald or Lusatia rely more on federal and state roads. Seasonal effects such as holiday traffic towards the Spreewald or heavy goods traffic in Lusatia also affect the scheduling of a move.

Last but not least, there is a noticeable trend: more and more Berliners are moving to the surrounding Brandenburg countryside for reasons of space and cost, while conversely young people from rural regions are moving to towns such as Potsdam or Cottbus to study or start their careers – see our student move. Our moving company for Brandenburg takes all these regional features into account when planning staff, vehicles and timing, so that your move runs smoothly, whether in town or country.

Moving costs in Brandenburg: prices at a glance

The cost of a move in Brandenburg depends on several factors: size of the flat, distance, accessibility and any additional services booked. As a moving company for Brandenburg, we calculate transparently and without hidden costs. A one-room move starts at €344, a two-room move from €599 and a three-room move from €905. These guide values apply to moves within Brandenburg or between Brandenburg and Berlin.

ServicePrice
One-room flatfrom €344
Two-room flatfrom €599
Three-room flatfrom €905
Long-distance movefrom €4.10/km
No-stopping zone€30–100/day

For a long-distance move, for example from Cottbus to southern Germany or from Frankfurt (Oder) to the North Sea, we charge from €4.10 per kilometre, depending on the volume of the move and the vehicle size required. If you are moving in a town-centre location such as Potsdam or Brandenburg an der Havel and do not have your own parking space outside the door, you should allow for a no-stopping zone, which costs between €30 and €100 per day depending on the municipality and duration.

Additional factors that affect the price are floors without a lift, bulky furniture such as pianos, any clearance of the cellar or attic needed, and booking part-load transport for smaller quantities. We recommend arranging a free survey early – virtually by video as well – so that we can prepare a binding quote for your individual move in Brandenburg. That way you keep full control of costs from the start.

Short distances: moves in the area around Berlin and between regions

The classic local move in Brandenburg often takes place within one region, for example from a flat in Potsdam-West to Potsdam-Babelsberg, or between neighbouring municipalities such as Falkensee and Dallgow-Döberitz. Moves between Berlin and the immediate surrounding area – for example from Berlin-Spandau to Falkensee or from Berlin-Pankow to Oranienburg – are also among the typical moves in the region.

These short distances often allow flexible day planning: loading and unloading usually take place on the same day, which saves costs and reduces moving stress. Especially in the commuter belt, where the A10 as the Berlin ring road connects the most important municipalities, journey times of 20 to 45 minutes are the rule. This means a private move from Berlin to Oranienburg or Falkensee can usually be completed within a few hours.

For local moves within Brandenburg, for example from Cottbus to a suburb such as Sielow or from Frankfurt (Oder) to Booßen, we check the local conditions carefully: narrow access in historic village centres, parking situations at new blocks of flats or longer carrying distances for houses with large plots in rural areas. For students moving to Potsdam or Cottbus at the start of term, we offer a special student move with flexible dates and fair fixed prices.

Smaller transports, such as individual pieces of furniture or boxes between two towns in Brandenburg, can also be carried out inexpensively via our part-load transport. For older customers who want to move within the region to a barrier-free flat or assisted living, we recommend our sensitive senior move. In this way we make every local move in Brandenburg individual, efficient and personal.

Long distances: from Brandenburg to other federal states

In addition to short distances, as a moving company for Brandenburg we also carry out long-distance moves to other federal states or abroad within Europe. Whether a move from Cottbus to Munich, from Potsdam to Hamburg or from Frankfurt (Oder) to Cologne – we plan the route taking motorway connections, traffic and delivery time windows into account. Important trunk roads are the A9 to the south, the A2 to the west, the A13 towards Dresden and the A12 towards Poland.

As long-distance moves often need more lead time, we recommend planning at least four to six weeks in advance, especially for moves over 300 km or for dates in summer, when many moves take place at the same time. We calculate the costs transparently from €4.10 per kilometre, depending on the volume of the move, the vehicle size and any intermediate stops for part-load transport.

Careful packing is particularly important for long-distance moves, as the journey time is longer and furniture is subjected to more strain. We secure furniture, electrical appliances and delicate items; for pianos there is our piano transport. Companies moving from a business park in Brandenburg – for example near Schönefeld or in the Schwarze Pumpe industrial park near Spremberg – to another location in Germany also benefit from our structured company relocation with clear scheduling and minimal disruption to operations.

For customers who want to get rid of bulky waste or old furnishings before the long-distance move, we also offer a professional clearance service, so that only what is really needed is taken along. In this way your long-distance move out of or into Brandenburg goes smoothly and is well organised.

Services for your move in Brandenburg

As a moving company for Brandenburg, we offer a comprehensive range of services tailored to the different needs of private and business customers. At the centre is the classic private move, which we organise completely, from a single flat in Potsdam to a detached house in the Prignitz – including packing, transport and furniture assembly.

  • Private move – for flats and houses throughout Brandenburg
  • Company relocation – for offices, practices and commercial businesses
  • Part-load transport – low-cost transport of smaller quantities
  • Clearance – household clearances and cellar clearance
  • No-stopping zone – reserved parking space for moving day
  • Piano transport – transport of upright and grand pianos
  • Senior move – a considerate move for older customers
  • Student move – flexible solutions for a small budget

For companies expanding, for example, from Berlin to Cottbus or Frankfurt (Oder), our company relocation offers a solution that coordinates IT infrastructure, file logistics and furniture transport – usually outside business hours so as not to disrupt operations. For older residents moving into age-appropriate flats in Oranienburg or Falkensee, for instance, our senior move provides particularly patient and sensitive support.

Students at the University of Potsdam or BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg benefit from our affordable student move, which is geared to small budgets and tight time windows at the start of term. If you want to dispose of furniture or bulky waste before the move, you can book our clearance service, and for difficult parking situations in old towns our no-stopping zone ensures a smooth process right outside your front door.

How your move in Brandenburg works, step by step

A well-organised process is the basis for a stress-free move in Brandenburg. First we carry out a free survey – by video call or as agreed – to record the volume of the move, floor, access routes and any special features such as narrow stairwells in Brandenburg an der Havel or missing lifts in prefab blocks in Cottbus. On this basis we prepare a binding, transparent quote with no hidden costs.

In the next step we plan the moving date, taking into account regional particularities such as holiday traffic towards the Spreewald or rush-hour traffic on the A10, and clarify whether a no-stopping zone is needed, which you apply for in good time from the responsible municipality. Around a week before the move we deliver moving boxes and packing material on request, so that you can pack at your own pace.

On moving day itself our team from Berlin takes care of the professional dismantling and reassembly of furniture, safe transport of delicate items, as with piano transport, and the protection of floors, door frames and stairwells. For company relocations we also coordinate IT equipment and files so that business operations can resume quickly – more on this under company relocation.

After transport, everything is set up in the new flat or office, including connecting lamps and assembling furniture. On request we can then also take care of clearance of the old premises, so that the handover to the landlord or next tenant goes smoothly. For students and young professionals who want to move quickly and easily, we also offer a compact student move with a clearly structured process. In this way we accompany you through your entire move in Brandenburg, from the first survey to the last task.

No-stopping zones in Brandenburg: Brandenburg an der Havel and Potsdam

In Brandenburg you apply for a no-stopping zone for a move to the town or municipality in which it is to apply; deadlines and fees differ. In Brandenburg an der Havel, according to the town administration, the road traffic authority (Straßenverkehrsbehörde) is responsible (“traffic-regulating measures for residential moves”).

  • Lead time: The application must be submitted at least 14 days before the move begins.
  • Fee: €15.00 for up to two moving days, payable on receipt of the fee notice.
  • Signs: The application is for a no-stopping zone with the additional plates “moving date” and “moving time”. The signs must be in place at least three full days before the start, put up by a certified specialist company for site safety or traffic safety.
  • Legal basis: § 45 of the Road Traffic Regulations (Straßenverkehrsordnung).

The state capital Potsdam lists the “moving barrier” (Umzug-Absperrung) on its moving page as a separate service (online administrative directory). Check the application procedure, deadline and fee there before you fix your date. If in doubt, ask the town for the road traffic authority; for general questions Potsdam gives the public authority number 115. For comparison: in Berlin the processing time is about four weeks according to service.berlin.de. Do not expect the same deadlines in Brandenburg, and ask each municipality individually. You will find town pages here: Potsdam, Brandenburg an der Havel and Cottbus. Our guide to no-stopping zones explains the procedure in general.

Moving between Berlin and Brandenburg: registration and dealing with the authorities

When you move from Berlin to Brandenburg, you change authority. The state capital Potsdam points out that when moving within Germany you only need to register at your new place of residence; deregistration is only required when moving abroad or giving up a secondary residence.

  • Deadline: According to Potsdam, registration is due within two weeks of moving in. Late registration can be punished as an administrative offence with a fine.
  • Documents: The landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) and ID; according to the page, there are no fees in Potsdam.
  • Online: Potsdam offers an “Electronic Residence Registration”. For this you need an ID card with the online ID function activated, a BundID account and the AusweisApp. Alternatively, book an appointment at the citizens' service centre. General questions are answered on the public authority number 115.

In Berlin, too, a deadline of 14 days applies, as service.berlin.de describes. The towns differ in their application procedures and points of contact. So check the page of your destination municipality and book appointments early. Residents' parking permits in Potsdam are applied for via the town's service portal. Moves from Berlin to the surrounding area start at our base at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin; for longer distances, read about our long-distance moving service and the moving guide for Potsdam.
