Key answers for your move in Cottbus
From our location in Berlin-Moabit it is about 132 road kilometres via the A13 and the A15, a good hour and a half by car and longer by removal lorry. For long-distance moves our price list states from €3.80 per kilometre; we fix the route and schedule in advance.
Lusatia's centre on the Spree: how we plan moves in Cottbus
As Brandenburg's second-largest city and the centre of Lusatia, Cottbus is characterised by a mix of historic old town, prefabricated housing estates from GDR times and modern new-build areas. The city lies on the Spree, about 132 road kilometres south-east of our location in Berlin-Moabit, and is easily reached via the A15 (connecting to the A13 towards Berlin) and the federal roads B97 and B168. This location makes Cottbus interesting both for local moves and as a starting point for long-distance moves.
A move in Cottbus differs considerably depending on the district: narrow lanes in the old town require different logistics from the wide streets in Sachsendorf-Madlow or the areas of detached houses in Branitz. Praktik Transport und Umzüge comes from Berlin-Moabit for this, clarifies these differences during the survey and adapts vehicle size, team and schedule.
The typical process includes:
- Free survey or video consultation to assess the moving volume
- Personal planning meeting, including finding a date
- Professional packing of furniture, boxes and delicate items
- Journey from Berlin via the A13 and A15, with the vehicle chosen to suit the street
- Assembly and furniture installation at the new home
For customers who only want to transport individual pieces of furniture, we also offer a part-load, which saves costs especially for smaller moves within Cottbus or to the surrounding area. If you also need a household clearance, our clearance service is the right addition. Through precise planning before the appointment, Praktik Transport und Umzüge ensures that your move in Cottbus runs smoothly, on schedule and without stress – whether it is a small single flat in the city centre or a family house in Kahren.
Sandow, Ströbitz, Sachsendorf-Madlow: residential areas in Cottbus
Cottbus is divided into numerous districts with very different characters, which directly affects the planning of a move. The city centre and the Spremberger Vorstadt are characterised by period buildings with narrow access and limited parking – here a no-parking zone is often essential so that the removal van can be positioned directly in front of the door.
In the large housing estates of Sachsendorf-Madlow and Schmellwitz, prefabricated blocks with lifts dominate, although some older blocks have no lift – an important factor when calculating carrying distance and time. The Sandow district offers a mix of cooperative flats and smaller detached houses near the Spree.
Those who prefer a quieter life often move to Branitz with its famous Fürst-Pückler-Park, to Kahren, Skadow or Merzdorf – detached and semi-detached houses with their own plots predominate here, which usually means more room to manoeuvre for our vehicles. Groß Gaglow and Dissenchen are also among the sought-after residential areas for families on the edge of the city.
- City centre & Spremberger Vorstadt: period buildings, narrow streets, high need for no-parking zones
- Sachsendorf-Madlow & Schmellwitz: prefabricated blocks, some without a lift
- Branitz, Kahren, Merzdorf: detached houses, more space for removal vans
- Sandow: mixed development near the Spree
This variety of residential areas calls for flexible moving concepts. Whether a ground-floor flat in Ströbitz or a terraced house in Dissenchen – our team plans every move in Cottbus precisely according to local conditions.
Moving costs in Cottbus: transparent prices
The moving costs in Cottbus depend on several factors: size of the flat, floor, distance, extra services required and any necessary no-parking zones. We calculate every move individually, but offer clear guide prices for orientation.
| Type of move | Price from |
|---|---|
| One-room flat | €349 |
| Two-room flat | €589 |
| Three-room flat | €909 |
| Long-distance move (per km) | from €3.80 |
| No-parking zone (per day) | €30–100 |
Within Cottbus, costs vary by district: a move from a period building without a lift in the Spremberger Vorstadt requires more staff and time than a ground-level move in Kahren. The parking situation also plays a role – in the narrow streets of the city centre we recommend applying for a no-parking zone in advance to reduce waiting times and therefore costs.
Additional services such as packing material, furniture assembly, piano transport or a clearance of old furniture are shown separately, so you always keep full control of costs. For students and seniors we also offer special flat rates tailored to smaller moving volumes.
Our aim is to give you a fair, transparent quote in Cottbus – with no hidden costs. A free on-site or video quote gives you planning certainty in advance for your move in Lusatia's main city.
Loading zone at the Altmarkt and in the Spremberger Vorstadt
Anyone moving in Cottbus knows the problem: especially in the city centre, around the Altmarkt and in the Spremberger Vorstadt, the streets are narrow and parking spaces are rare. Without enough space directly in front of the door, the move takes unnecessarily long – long carrying distances cost time and money.
For this reason, we clarify at every survey whether a no-parking zone is needed. You submit the application to the road traffic authority of the City of Cottbus in good time; the signs must be in place before the move so that there is enough space for the removal van on moving day.
Depending on location and duration, the costs of a no-parking zone are between €30 and €100 per day. In busy areas such as around the Spremberger Turm, applying early is particularly important; you will find the city's deadlines in the section on the application further below.
- Clarification during the survey of whether a no-parking zone is needed
- Application and signs on time before the moving date
- Cost transparency: €30–100 per day depending on location
- Particularly relevant in the city centre, Sandow and the Spremberger Vorstadt
In the residential areas of Schmellwitz and Sachsendorf-Madlow with their large housing blocks, a reserved zone also ensures a smooth process. This saves you time, avoids conflicts with residents and protects your budget – a small step that makes your move in Cottbus much more relaxed.
Between Cottbus, Berlin and the rest of Germany
Cottbus is conveniently located on the A15, which offers a direct connection to the A13 towards Berlin – from our location in Berlin-Moabit it is about 132 road kilometres, a good hour and a half by car. Dresden can also be reached easily via the A13 to the south – making Cottbus a good starting point for long-distance moves.
Our long-distance moves from Cottbus start at €3.80 per kilometre and, as required, include a full service with packing, transport and assembly at the destination. For smaller quantities, a part-load is recommended, where your household goods are transported together with other consignments – this saves costs, especially on routes of over 200 kilometres.
Besides Berlin, we handle moves to other destinations in Brandenburg, including:
- Frankfurt (Oder) – north of Cottbus on the Oder
- Potsdam – reachable via the A13 and the Berlin ring road
- Brandenburg an der Havel – located west of Berlin
- Falkensee – right on the Berlin city boundary
- Oranienburg – north of Berlin
Whether a move within Brandenburg or across Germany: we plan the route taking into account motorway connections, toll costs and traffic conditions so that your long-distance move from Cottbus arrives at its destination punctually and safely. If your new home is not yet ready to move into, contact us early so that we can set a suitable date.
Services for your move in Cottbus
Praktik Transport und Umzüge covers the entire spectrum of home and company moves in Cottbus. Our aim is to support every customer – from students to companies – with the right service.
- Private move: for flats and houses in all districts, from the Spremberger Vorstadt to Kahren
- Company move: for offices, practices and businesses throughout the city
- Part-load: cost-effective transport of smaller quantities within Brandenburg and beyond
- Clearance: clearing households, cellars and attics before or after the move
- No-parking zone: reserving parking space in the narrow streets of the city centre and adjacent quarters
- Piano transport: secured transport of upright and grand pianos
- Senior move: considerate support when moving to an age-appropriate flat
- Student move: affordable packages for students of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg
All services can be combined flexibly – for example, clearing the old flat in Schmellwitz directly after the move to Sachsendorf-Madlow. We clarify narrow access in the old town and new-build areas on the outskirts during the survey and put together vehicles and staff accordingly. This way you get all moving services in Cottbus from a single source, with our team travelling from Berlin-Moabit.
Office and company moves in Cottbus
As a business location with BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, numerous medium-sized companies and commercial areas along the A15, Cottbus has a constant need for professional company moves. Whether relocating an office in the city centre, moving a shop on Spremberger Straße or relocating an entire business to a commercial area on the outskirts – we ensure minimal downtime.
Our company move service includes:
- Dismantling and assembly of office furniture, server cabinets and shelving systems
- Safe transport of IT equipment and sensitive documents
- Move planning outside business hours, at weekends or overnight
- Labelling and coordination for structured reassembly at the new location
- Clarifying whether a no-parking zone is needed for access to inner-city office locations
Especially in Cottbus city centre, where many offices are housed in historic buildings with narrow entrances, careful logistics planning is crucial. We plan the coordination with you so that your team can get back to work quickly – ideally with an interruption of just one weekend.
For companies with several locations in Brandenburg, for example with branches in Frankfurt (Oder) or Potsdam, we also offer coordinated moves from a single source. We additionally help with vacating old office space through our clearance service, so that the premises can be handed back broom-clean. This turns your company move in Cottbus into a plannable, professionally supported project rather than a business risk.
Student moves in Cottbus & a simple booking process
With BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, Cottbus is an important university location in Lusatia – and demand for affordable, straightforward moves for students is correspondingly high. Whether switching from a hall of residence to a shared flat in Sachsendorf or moving from another city at the start of semester: our student move package is specifically tailored to smaller moving volumes and tight budgets.
The booking process at Praktik Transport und Umzüge is deliberately kept simple:
- Send an enquiry: fill in the online form or call, giving moving details such as room size and floor
- Receive a quote: a transparent fixed-price quote within a short time, based on our guide prices from €349 for smaller moves
- Fix the date: choose your preferred date, if needed including a no-parking zone near the student residence
- Moving day: our team handles the transport and, on request, packing and furniture assembly
- Completion: handover of the new flat, if needed with final cleaning or clearance of the old accommodation
Students also benefit from flexible dates outside lecture times and the option of booking several moves together – for example when changing shared flats at the end of semester. For long-distance moves too, for example back to a home town or to an internship in another region of Brandenburg, we offer cost-effective solutions from €3.80 per kilometre or as a part-load.
This makes a student move in Cottbus a straightforward matter – quickly booked, fairly calculated and reliably carried out.
Applying for a no-parking zone in Cottbus: process, deadlines and documents
If you want to park the removal van directly in front of the house in Cottbus, you need a no-parking zone where parking is scarce. According to the City of Cottbus citizens' portal (entry “Parkplatzabsperrung für Umzug”, closing off parking for a move), the road traffic authority is responsible. The permit can be applied for if loading and unloading cannot be done without obstructing traffic. The legal basis is § 45 (6) StVO.
The city names two deadlines: the application should be submitted at least 14 days before the move, and the traffic signs must be in place at least three to four days before the move begins. In the application you state your name and address, the reason, location and area of the closure, the duration and an overview map or sketch. There is an online form for this in the citizens' portal; the city points out that some online services are temporarily restricted.
According to the city, the costs depend on the size of the closure and the road or pavement area used (special-use fees). The page does not give amounts; additional costs may arise for the traffic signs. The zone must be signposted as specified by the authority and remain in place throughout the move.
You can read how we support securing the parking area on our no-parking zone page. It is best to plan the application right after the survey.
Moving to Cottbus: registering your residence and re-registering the waste bin
After moving into Cottbus, you must register your residence with the registration office. According to the city's citizens' portal, the deadline is two weeks after moving in. You must bring your landlord's confirmation. You book an appointment via the online booking of the Citizens' Service department; there is also the online service “Elektronische Wohnsitzanmeldung” (electronic residence registration), which according to the city may at times be available only to a limited extent. The page does not mention a fee.
Waste bins are also part of re-registering. According to the city, every inhabited property must have a residual waste bin of sufficient size and, as a rule, an organic waste bin as well. New registration after moving into a property must be made in writing, and only the property owner can do it. The responsible office is the Office for Waste Management and Street Cleaning. Registrations, deregistrations and changes are possible up to the 15th of a month and take effect from the first day of the following month. As a tenant, it is therefore best to clarify this with your property management before the move.
You can find collection dates in the city's digital waste calendar; according to the city, the printed brochure for 2026 is available at both town halls and all recycling centres. We have compiled further tips on settling in in our guide to living in Cottbus and our moving guide for Cottbus.
