Your questions about moving in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
A move from Berlin to Rostock via the A24 and A19 (around 220 road kilometres) is calculated by kilometres and moving volume, from €4.15 per kilometre according to our price list, plus the effort for loading and unloading. We give you the fixed price after the survey.
Moves in the north-east: a team from Berlin, working throughout the state
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is the state of lakes, brick towns and the Baltic coast – and this is where we come as a moving company from Berlin-Moabit for private and business customers. Whether it is a move within Rostock, a change from Berlin to Schwerin or a business move to Neubrandenburg – Praktik Transport und Umzüge plans the routes via the A19, A20, A24 and A11 motorways and asks about the particularities of the individual regions between Western Pomerania and the Mecklenburg Lake District in advance.
As a moving company based in Berlin-Moabit, we handle moves throughout the state, but without a local branch. The journey runs via the A24 towards Schwerin, via the A24 and A19 to Rostock and via the A11 and A20 to Neubrandenburg, Greifswald and Stralsund. We handle both the classic private move and demanding business moves for companies expanding to or from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The state is characterised by a mix of lively Hanseatic towns such as Rostock, Stralsund and Greifswald, the quiet state capital Schwerin and rural regions around the Mecklenburg Lake District and Western Pomerania. This variety places particular demands on logistics: narrow old-town streets, long distances between villages and seasonal traffic peaks caused by tourism on the Baltic coast. Our team plans every move individually, takes parking restriction zones in historic town centres into account and ensures smooth transport – whether furniture, a piano or a company's entire inventory. With a fixed price after a survey and a firmly agreed arrival time, we plan your move throughout the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Five cities and four regions for your move
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is divided into several regions relevant to moving, each with its own characteristics. The state capital Schwerin, with its palace and old town, is a popular destination for families and people commuting to Hamburg and Berlin. From Berlin-Moabit it is around 200 road kilometres to Schwerin, almost all via the A24.
Rostock, the largest city in the state, with districts such as Warnemünde, Reutershagen and the Hanseatic old town, is both a university city and a port city. From Berlin, the route to Rostock runs via the A24 and A19, which makes moves easier for students, families and businesses.
In the east of the state lie the Hanseatic towns of Greifswald and Stralsund, both with historic brick architecture and direct connections to Rügen and Usedom. Greifswald is also an important university town with many student moves. Neubrandenburg, the gateway to the Mecklenburg Lake District, is an important hub for moves into the rural areas around the many lakes.
Other regions relevant to moving are:
- The Mecklenburg Lake District with towns such as Waren (Müritz) and Neustrelitz
- Fischland-Darß-Zingst and the Bodden landscape
- The islands of Rügen and Usedom with seasonal tourist traffic
- The Western Pomerania area around Anklam and Pasewalk
- The region around Wismar on the western Baltic coast
For each of these regions, we clarify the route, loading zone and seasonal particularities before the date, so that your move runs on schedule and safely.
Old towns, the season, rural roads: particularities of the state
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania brings some regional particularities for moving companies, which we take into account in every plan. The historic old towns of the Hanseatic towns of Stralsund, Greifswald, Rostock and Wismar are characterised by dense development and Brick Gothic architecture. Parking is often scarce here, which is why a parking restriction zone is frequently needed to secure loading space right outside the front door.
Another factor is seasonal tourist traffic: in the summer months, the access roads to Rügen, Usedom and along the Bodden coast (Fischland-Darß-Zingst) are much busier. We prefer to plan moves in these regions outside the holiday periods or with a larger time buffer, to allow for congestion at the Rügen Bridge or on the approaches to the island of Usedom.
The Mecklenburg Lake District and large parts of Western Pomerania are rural, with greater distances between individual towns and villages. We therefore clarify rural access, unpaved roads and sometimes narrow farmyard entrances in villages around Waren, Neustrelitz or Demmin in advance using photos or video.
In addition, Greifswald and Rostock are distinct university towns with high turnover at the start of the semester. For this group, we offer a special student move with flexible dates and affordable terms.
Not least, the proximity to water plays a role: many flats in Warnemünde, in the Schwerin lake landscape or in coastal villages are in older buildings with narrow stairwells – here we use special lifting and carrying equipment if required to transport furniture safely and without damage.
Guide prices for moves in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
Moving costs in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania depend on several factors: distance, size of the flat, floor, access situation and any additional services required. As a moving company with a clear price structure, we offer transparent fixed prices with no hidden costs, whether you are moving within Schwerin or from Berlin to Stralsund.
| Service | Price from |
|---|---|
| 1-room flat (local move) | €354 |
| 2-room flat (local move) | €589 |
| 3-room flat (local move) | €915 |
| Long-distance move (e.g. Berlin – Rostock) | from €4.15/km |
| Parking restriction zone (per day) | €30 – 100 |
For a local move within a town such as Neubrandenburg or Greifswald, the costs depend primarily on the size of the flat and the number of floors. For a long-distance move, for example from Berlin via the A19 to Rostock or via the A20 to Stralsund, we calculate a rate per kilometre plus the effort for loading and unloading.
For smaller transport volumes, for example single pieces of furniture going to Usedom or Rügen, our part load is recommended – an affordable alternative to a whole removal van. If you want to declutter before the move, you can also use our clearance service. For an individual quote, we always take the specific situation on site into account – from a narrow old-town lane in Wismar to a rural farm driveway in the Lake District.
Distances from Berlin-Moabit and planning at the destination
Whether it is a local move within a town or a long-distance move across the state or from Berlin – the requirements differ considerably. A local move, for example within Rostock from Reutershagen to Warnemünde, can usually be completed in one day. A long-distance move, on the other hand, requires more lead time, especially on long routes via the A11, A19, A20 or A24.
For orientation, here are the road kilometres from our company at Stromstraße 21 (Berlin-Moabit):
| Destination | Distance from Berlin-Moabit | Route |
|---|---|---|
| Neubrandenburg | approx. 186 km | A11 / A20 |
| Schwerin | approx. 203 km | A24 / A14 |
| Rostock | approx. 221 km | A24 / A19 |
| Greifswald | approx. 236 km | A11 / A20 |
| Stralsund | approx. 271 km | A11 / A20 |
For long-distance moves to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, we calculate the costs by kilometres and loading volume. Precise planning of access at the destination is also important: in old towns such as Stralsund or Greifswald, narrow lanes often have to be negotiated, while in rural areas of the Lake District longer walking distances from the vehicle to the home have to be allowed for.
If only a few pieces of furniture are to be transported, for example a single wardrobe to Usedom or a sofa to Anklam, our part load is the most economical solution. For larger households, on the other hand, we recommend a full moving date with a dedicated vehicle and team, to bring your furniture to its destination safely and on schedule – whether it is a local or long-distance move.
Services for your move within the state
As a moving company from Berlin-Moabit, we offer a comprehensive portfolio of services for the whole of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, tailored to the needs of a wide range of customers – from a student in Greifswald to a company headquarters in Rostock.
- Private move – for flats and houses in Schwerin, Neubrandenburg and rural municipalities
- Business move – professional moves for offices and businesses, even while operations continue
- Part load – an affordable transport solution for smaller volumes to Rügen, Usedom or the Lake District
- Clearance – professional clearing of cellars, attics and deceased estates
- Parking restriction zone – planning for narrow old towns such as Stralsund or Wismar
- Piano transport – safe transport of upright and grand pianos with dedicated securing
- Seniors' move – considerate support when moving into a smaller flat or assisted living
- Student move – quick, affordable solutions for students in Rostock and Greifswald
Each of these services can be combined individually. For a seniors' move in Schwerin, for example, we handle not only the transport but also the dismantling and assembly of furniture and the proper disposal of items that are no longer needed. For a business move in Rostock or Neubrandenburg, we also plan the dismantling and reinstallation of IT and keep business downtime as short as possible. Our aim is to offer the right solution for every moving situation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania – reliably, transparently and on schedule.
The process from enquiry to moving in
A well-organised process is crucial for a stress-free move – whether within Rostock or on the long route from Berlin to Stralsund. Our process involves the following steps:
- Free survey or online enquiry: we determine the size of the flat, the distance and special requirements such as piano transport or a parking restriction zone
- Individual quote: you receive a transparent fixed price, adapted to the conditions in Schwerin, Greifswald or the Lake District
- Scheduling: especially in tourist regions such as Rügen or Usedom, we match the date to the season
- Packing and dismantling: on request, our team takes care of packing, dismantling furniture and securing fragile items
- Transport: via the A19, A20, A24 or A11, we bring your belongings safely to their destination, whether it is a local or long-distance move
- Assembly and setting up: at the destination, we reassemble the furniture and arrange everything as you wish
- Final cleaning: on request, we also take care of the handover cleaning of the old flat
Especially for moves into historic old towns such as Wismar or Stralsund, early planning of the parking restriction zone is important so that our vehicle can load right outside the door. For rural destinations around Neubrandenburg or the Mecklenburg Lake District, we allow additional time for longer distances from the vehicle to the home. This way we ensure a smooth process from the first enquiry to the last box in your new home.
What we bring to moves in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is a state of contrasts: Hanseatic towns, lake landscapes and the long Baltic coast. This variety calls for move planning that is flexible and precise. Praktik Transport und Umzüge is based at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit and handles moves throughout the state – from Schwerin and Rostock to Greifswald and Stralsund.
We have no branch in the state. That is why, before every date, we ask what we need for the planning: whether a parking restriction zone is needed in Stralsund's old town, how narrow the stairwell is in Warnemünde and what access to a house in the Mecklenburg Lake District looks like. Each city sets its own deadlines for parking restrictions – the details for Rostock, Schwerin and Stralsund are given further down.
You can rely on this:
- Fixed price after a survey with no hidden extra costs
- Flexible scheduling, including outside the main tourist season on the coast
- Advance planning for sensitive transports such as pianos or antiques
- Comprehensive service from packing to final cleaning
- Travelling from Berlin via the A24, A19, A11 and A20, with a firmly agreed arrival time
Whether it is a private move, a business move, a student move in Greifswald or a seniors' move in Schwerin – we adapt the service to your situation. For the larger cities, we have separate pages with districts and the cities' own information, for example on Rostock and Greifswald. Request a non-binding quote – with the exact address and your preferred date.
Parking restrictions in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: deadlines in Rostock, Schwerin and Stralsund
In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the cities regulate parking space reservations for moves themselves, which is why deadlines and costs differ. In Rostock, the town hall states at least three weeks' notice, an administrative fee of €20.00 and costs for signage by a traffic safety company from approx. €120.00. In Schwerin, the service portal states at least 10 working days' notice, and the signs must be in place no later than 4 days before the move. The fee there depends on duration and scope. In Rostock, you can submit the application in writing by post, e-mail or fax, or in person.
The city of Stralsund offers an online service portal. Its quick search suggests the keywords parking restriction, move and parking space reservation, among others, and shows filters for deadline, fee and responsible office. Check the specific details for Stralsund there before fixing a date.
Separate orders apply to the moving-in and moving-out locations, and anyone who has to drive into a pedestrian zone in Schwerin needs a separate exemption permit. We plan your move in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania from Berlin-Moabit and set the times according to the approved parking restriction. You will find details on the two largest cities in the state on our pages about Rostock and Schwerin.
Old towns and districts in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: access and residential areas when moving
The towns of the state differ greatly in their architecture. In Schwerin, according to the city, the Schelfstadt is a largely restored ensemble of old buildings with courtyards, the Paulsstadt was laid out from the middle of the 19th century mainly to plans by Georg Adolf Demmler, and the Großer Dreesch is a prefab estate begun in 1971.
In Rostock, the Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt and the Steintor-Vorstadt grew out beyond the medieval city wall around 1830. The Südstadt was built between 1960 and 1965 as the first urban area constructed entirely of large prefabricated panels. For statistical purposes, the Hanseatic City is divided into 21 urban areas, with Warnemünde the north-westernmost.
In Stralsund, too, traffic in the old town plays a role: the city has commissioned an engineering firm to update the old-town traffic concept because of growing traffic pressure in the historic core. Check the current rules with the city before your moving date.
In Schwerin, the Weststadt is considered popular because of its proximity to the city centre and Lake Lankow, and the old town with the palace and medieval cathedral forms the historic core. Period building, courtyard access or prefab block with a lift: depending on the quarter, we plan staff, carrying distances and vehicle differently. Our page on Stralsund complements this overview.
