Frequently asked questions about moving in Stralsund
The costs depend on the size of the flat and accessibility. As a guide, €369 applies for a 1-room flat, €615 for a 2-room flat and €915 for a 3-room flat. Narrow approaches in the old town can increase the effort.
How a move works in the Hanseatic town on the Strelasund
A move in Stralsund differs in many respects from a move in any other town, because the Hanseatic town on the Strelasund, with its old town designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has a historic core that needs particular attention when planning a move. Narrow lanes around the Alter Markt, Neuer Markt and Ossenreyerstraße, as well as listed gabled houses with narrow stairwells, call for precise planning and suitable equipment. As a moving company from Berlin-Moabit, we ask about these conditions in advance and plan every move individually, adapted to access routes, loading zones and the particular building.
The location on the Strelasund, with the Rügen causeway and Rügen Bridge towards Rügen, also affects the process: at weekends and during the holidays, traffic on the B96 towards Rügen can be slow, which we take into account in our scheduling. Every job begins with a free preliminary survey, in which we check the parking situation, floor, lift size and possible bottlenecks.
Typical particularities we plan for in every move in Stralsund:
- Narrow approaches in the old town and the harbour area
- Heritage protection requirements for historic façades and stairwells
- Traffic around the Rügen causeway, especially during the Rügen season
- Weather-related influences due to the Baltic location for outdoor transport
- Limited loading zones in the narrow streets of the old town island
From organising the classic private move to the careful transport of single items – we make sure your move in Stralsund runs smoothly, safely and on schedule, whether it is to the old town, to Knieper West or to one of the districts on the edge of town.
Old town island, Knieper, Grünhufe: residential areas in Stralsund
Stralsund is divided into eight urban areas, seven of which are in turn divided into districts, and each location affects the planning of a move in Stralsund. The historic old town lies on an island between the Strelasund and the three town ponds (Knieperteich, Frankenteich and Moorteich), is characterised by Brick Gothic architecture and, together with Wismar, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002 – a permit for the loading zone is usually needed here. Knieper and Grünhufe are prefab estates whose residential surroundings have been upgraded under programmes such as „Stadtumbau Ost“ (urban redevelopment east); there, the floor and lift matter most. The Tribseer Vorstadt and the Frankenvorstadt lie around the old town, while Devin, Andershof and Voigdehagen were incorporated in 1928 and are more loosely built up.
| District | Character | What we look out for |
|---|---|---|
| Old town | Old town island, UNESCO World Heritage | Narrow streets, parking restriction zone usually needed |
| Knieper | Prefab blocks, multi-storey housing | Clarify floor and lift in advance |
| Tribseer Vorstadt | Established residential area | Parking situation depends on the street |
| Grünhufe | Prefab blocks, commercial areas | Floor, lift, business moves too |
| Devin | On the Strelasund, loosely built up | Check access to the property |
| Andershof/Voigdehagen | Outskirts | Check access to the property |
Whether your new home is on the old town island, in Knieper West or on the edge of town – we determine the vehicle size and staff based on your details on the address, access and floor.
Guide prices for moves in Stralsund
Moving costs in Stralsund depend on several factors: the size of the flat, floor, distance, accessibility and any additional services required, such as furniture assembly or packing material. As a moving company from Berlin, we calculate every move individually and give you a binding fixed price in advance.
| Service | Price from |
|---|---|
| 1-room flat | €369 |
| 2-room flat | €615 |
| 3-room flat | €915 |
| Long-distance move (per km) | from €4.20/km |
| Parking restriction zone (per day) | €30–100 |
These guide prices apply to standard moves with good access. In the old town, where vehicles often cannot stop right outside the front door, or for flats without a lift in period buildings, the effort may increase. We therefore recommend a free survey on site to determine realistic costs.
Other factors that affect the price:
- Floor and whether there is a lift
- Distance between the old and new address
- Additional services such as clearance or storage
- Bulky or fragile items, e.g. for piano transport
- A parking restriction zone required in narrow streets of the old town
For smaller volumes or single pieces of furniture, a part load is often worthwhile, which works out much cheaper than a complete move. Get in touch – we will prepare a non-binding, transparent quote with no hidden costs for your move in Stralsund.
Planning a parking restriction on the old town island
Especially in Stralsund's old town, with its narrow streets around Mönchstraße, Fährstraße and the Neuer Markt, parking space for a removal van is often in short supply. So that the team does not have to spend a long time looking for a space on moving day, a parking restriction zone applied for in good time makes sense. It ensures that the area outside your front door is kept free and the van can be loaded and unloaded without losing time.
You submit the application to the Hanseatic City of Stralsund; where, with what details and how, according to the MV service portal, is set out in the section on parking space reservations further down. After approval, the signs are put up by a signage company that you commission. We tell you the length our vehicle needs and set the arrival time according to the approved period.
- Apply as soon as the moving date is fixed
- Have the signs put up before the moving date, only after approval
- Especially important on the old town island and with narrow back courtyards
- Costs according to our price list, depending on zone and duration, €30 to €100 per day
Outside the old town too, for example in parts of the Tribseer Vorstadt or in Knieper, a parking restriction zone can make sense if parking is scarce or the streets are narrow. Without a designated zone, there is a risk of long distances between vehicle and flat on moving day, which costs time and therefore money.
We discuss with you during the survey whether you need a zone and how long it has to be. You can find more information on our parking restriction zone page. This way you avoid unnecessary costs and everything runs predictably on moving day – whichever district you are moving in.
From Stralsund to Berlin, Rügen and around the region
Not every move ends within the town boundaries. Stralsund has a feeder road to the A20 (Lübeck–Rostock–Szczecin) and lies on the B105 (towards Rostock or Greifswald/Neubrandenburg), B194 (towards Grimmen) and B96 (towards Bergen auf Rügen) federal roads. From our company at Stromstraße 21 to Stralsund, it is around 270 road kilometres via the A11 and A20, about three and a half hours by lorry.
We also handle moves within Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, for example towards Rostock (around 105 road kilometres), Greifswald (around 37 km), Neubrandenburg (around 105 km) or Schwerin (around 180 km). According to our price list, we calculate longer distances from €4.20 per kilometre, plus staff and service costs.
- Connections via the A20, the B96 towards Rügen and the B105 towards Rostock
- Intermediate stops along the route on request, shown in the quote
- Option of a part load for smaller moving volumes
- Moves between Stralsund and Berlin in both directions
Especially for longer distances, it is worth agreeing a date early, because we can then combine runs. We plan the route, the parking restriction at the destination, interim storage and furniture assembly after the survey and include them in the quote. The kilometres are rounded figures between town centres.

Office and business moves in Stralsund
Stralsund is not only a place to live but also a business location, with commercial areas such as Grünhufe, the harbour area on the Strelasund and numerous companies in shipping, tourism and healthcare, for example around the Krankenhaus am Sund hospital. For a business move in Stralsund, minimal disruption to operations is crucial – our team therefore plans every commercial move in detail in advance, often in close coordination with our customers' internal IT and facility departments.

Student moves at Hochschule Stralsund & booking
With Hochschule Stralsund, a campus university of applied sciences with around 2,500 students in the north of the town, numerous young people move to the Hanseatic town every semester, often into shared-flat rooms and smaller flats around Knieper West, the Tribseer Vorstadt or near the city centre. A student move in Stralsund usually needs to be quick, straightforward and, above all, budget-conscious – which is exactly what our offer is tailored to.
For the student move, we offer compact vans, flexible dates even at short notice at the start of semester and affordable fixed prices for smaller flats or single rooms. A part load can often be used if only a few pieces of furniture and boxes need to be transported – this saves real money compared with a classic complete move.
Booking with us is deliberately kept simple:
- Get in touch by phone, e-mail or online form
- Free assessment of the moving volume, with an on-site appointment if needed
- Binding fixed-price quote with no hidden costs
- Fixing the date, including a parking restriction zone in narrow residential streets if required
- Carrying out the move, including dismantling and assembling the furniture
For seniors planning a move into a smaller flat or assisted living, we also have a considerate offer in our seniors' move, which goes beyond pure transport and includes organisational support.
Whether it is the start of your studies, a change of job or retirement – contact us early so that we have enough lead time for parking restriction zones, staff planning and vehicle scheduling. This way your move in Stralsund is well organised and stress-free from the outset.
Parking space reservation for moves in Stralsund: Planning and Building Office
According to the MV service portal, in Stralsund you apply for a parking space reservation for your move to the Hanseatic City, Amt für Planung und Bau, Abteilung Straßen und Stadtgrün (Planning and Building Office, roads and urban green spaces department), Bauhofstraße 4, 18439 Stralsund, telephone 03831 252811. Office hours are Tuesdays from 8 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 5 pm, and Thursdays from 8 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm, with appointments outside these times by arrangement.
According to the portal, there is no online service; you submit the application in writing and informally. You need to state the location, period and length in metres; the length depends on the vehicle used. The office checks the application and, if the outcome is positive, issues a permit and a traffic order for the road signs. Processing usually takes place immediately or promptly. The fee varies with the duration and scope of the permit; the portal does not state an amount. The legal basis is § 45 and § 46 (1) StVO (German Road Traffic Regulations).
The parking restriction zone applies for a limited time for moves and for loading and unloading. Plan the signage before the moving date; the municipality determines the details of the zone and signs.
We start moves to Stralsund from our company at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit. You can find more about our service around the reservation under parking restriction zone. Background on costs and residential areas is provided by the guide to moving to Stralsund.
Stralsund: old town island, World Heritage and the drive over the Rügen Bridge
According to the city, Stralsund is the largest town in Western Pomerania. The historic old town lies on the old town island with tightly packed gabled houses and, together with Wismar, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is updating its old-town traffic concept because developments in the old town are increasing traffic. For your move, this means: give the exact address in the quote request and the application, so that the access, the position of the vehicle and the length of the parking restriction zone are right.
The strait between Stralsund and Rügen is still called the Strelasund today. The Rügen Bridge connects the town with the island of Rügen; the island of Dänholm lies in between. If you are moving from Stralsund to Rügen or coming from the Berlin direction, tell us your preferred date, floor, lift and carrying distances early, so that we can plan the vehicle and staff accordingly.
On the city's traffic page, you will also find information on residents' parking and a thematic map of roadworks, bus services and parking options. A look at it helps before you fix a date. The city names the three brick churches of St Mary's, St Nicholas' and St James' as witnesses to the town's former power; they shape the old town. On the MV service portal, you select the relevant area for the application, for example Dänholm.
Other places in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania include Rostock and Schwerin; the page on Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania gives an overview.
