Everything important about moving in Schwerin
Prices start at €369 for a 1-room flat, €609 for a 2-room flat and €915 for a 3-room flat. The exact price depends on the floor, lift and additional services.
How a move works in the city of lakes
Schwerin, the state capital of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is characterised by numerous lakes, a historic old town and Schwerin Palace, visible from afar on its own island. This special location brings its own challenges for a move in Schwerin: narrow lanes in the old town and Schelfstadt, courtyards behind the houses and limited parking in the historic quarters. As a moving company from Berlin-Moabit, we ask about these points in advance and plan every private move accordingly.
The typical process begins with a free survey on site or by video, followed by a transparent fixed-price quote. We then take care of packing, dismantling furniture, transport and professional assembly in your new flat. In Schwerin in particular, the approach is crucial: the A24, which connects Berlin and Hamburg, runs south of the city; at the Schwerin motorway interchange, the A14 branches off north towards Wismar. From our company in Berlin-Moabit it is around 200 road kilometres, about two and a half hours by lorry to Schwerin.
In our planning we also take into account the waterside location of many residential areas: streets around Lake Schwerin, the Ziegelsee or the Fauler See are sometimes narrow and require precise vehicle planning. For period buildings in the Schelfstadt or Feldstadt, we check in advance whether a smaller vehicle is needed to reach narrow approaches safely. This way we ensure that your move runs smoothly – whether you are moving within Schwerin or coming from another city.
Old town, Schelfstadt, Dreesch: residential areas in Schwerin
Schwerin is divided into 17 localities (Ortsteile), each consisting of one or more districts, and each residential location places its own demands on a move. The historic old town and the adjoining Schelfstadt with its Baroque core have many older houses with narrow stairwells and courtyards, often without a lift – here, carrying distances and the number of staff determine the duration. In the Paulsstadt and Werdervorstadt there are also many period flats and quiet residential streets near the Pfaffenteich lake.
The situation is different in the large housing estates: Großer Dreesch, Mueßer Holz and Neu Zippendorf consist mainly of prefab blocks. We ask in advance whether there is a lift and how big it is, because this determines how quickly furniture reaches the upper floors. In Lankow, Krebsförden and Görries, there are detached and terraced houses as well as residential blocks, and Zippendorf lies on the shore of Lake Schwerin.
- Old town & Schelfstadt: older houses, courtyards, narrow approaches, parking space reservation often needed
- Großer Dreesch & Mueßer Holz: prefab blocks, clarify the lift in advance
- Lankow & Krebsförden: mixed development, access depends on the building
- Zippendorf: close to the lake, quiet residential areas
- Paulsstadt & Werdervorstadt: mixed residential development, close to the centre
People who commute between Schwerin and the coast for work often move towards Rostock, which can be reached via the A14 and A20. Whatever the district, we adapt our approach to the residential location.
Guide prices for moves within Schwerin
Moving costs in Schwerin depend on several factors: the size of the flat, the floor, whether there is a lift, the distance between the old and new address and any additional services you want, such as packing or furniture assembly. For a realistic assessment, we have put together our guide prices for standard moves within Schwerin.
| Flat size | Starting price | Typical customers |
|---|---|---|
| 1-room flat | from €369 | Students, people starting their careers |
| 2-room flat | from €609 | Couples, singles with more household goods |
| 3-room flat | from €915 | Families, larger households |
These are starting prices for uncomplicated moves with good access. Surcharges may apply if there is no lift in period buildings in the Schelfstadt, for long carrying distances or for particularly bulky furniture such as grand pianos – for which we offer piano transport.
If you want to save costs on long-distance moves, you can use our part load: your household goods are transported together with other moves heading in the same direction, which is particularly attractive on routes towards Berlin or Hamburg. Additional services such as clearance, storage or final cleaning are always shown transparently and separately, so that in the end you know exactly what you are paying for. We prepare a non-binding quote for you free of charge, either after a survey on site or based on your details by phone or online form.
Parking space reservation in the old town and Schelfstadt
Especially in the old town, the Schelfstadt and around the Pfaffenteich, parking space in Schwerin is scarce and many streets are narrow. A removal van that simply stops at the roadside there quickly causes obstructions or has to park a long way off. That is why a parking restriction zone applied for early often makes sense for inner-city moves in Schwerin.
You submit the application to the state capital; according to the city, the signs are put up not by the authority but by a signage company that you commission. The deadline and requirements stated by the city are set out in the section on parking space reservations further down. We set the vehicle and arrival time according to the approved period, so that the van can load right outside the front door.
- Apply as soon as the moving date is fixed
- Have the signs put up only after approval
- Costs according to our price list, depending on location and duration, between €30 and €100 per day
- Especially important in the old town, Schelfstadt and Feldstadt
- Short-notice requests are possible by arrangement
In districts with their own plots, for example in Krebsförden or Zippendorf, a parking restriction zone is often not needed because there is enough space for loading and unloading. We clarify whether you need a zone during the survey or using photos and maps. You can find more about the process and costs on our parking restriction zone page.
Schwerin on the A24 and A14: routes to Berlin, Hamburg and Rostock
The A24 from Hamburg to Berlin runs south of Schwerin; at the Schwerin motorway interchange, the A14 branches off north towards Wismar, where it crosses the A20. The B104 over the Paulsdamm causeway is among the roads running through the city.
From our company at Stromstraße 21 to Schwerin, it is around 200 road kilometres, about two and a half hours by lorry. According to our price list, we calculate longer distances from Schwerin from €4.10 per kilometre, plus the effort for loading and unloading. If you are only sending single pieces of furniture, you can use our part load option, which combines several jobs heading in the same direction.
We also handle moves within Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, for example to Rostock, Stralsund, Greifswald or Neubrandenburg.
- Berlin-Moabit: around 200 km via the A24
- Hamburg: around 110 km via the A24
- Rostock: around 90 km via the A14 and A20
- Wismar: around 30 km via the A14
The road kilometres are rounded figures between city centres; the exact route depends on your addresses.
Services for your move in Schwerin
As a moving company from Berlin-Moabit, we offer a comprehensive package of services for Schwerin, ranging from individual tasks to a complete all-inclusive move. Whether it is a new-build flat on Lake Ostorf or a period building in the Schelfstadt – we adapt our services to the particular living situation.
- Private move: from a one-room flat to a detached house in Lankow or Krebsförden
- Business move: offices, practices and administrative bodies, including at weekends
- Seniors' move: considerate support when moving into assisted living
- Student move: affordable flat rates for small households
- Clearance: household clearances and cellar clearances
- Piano transport: safe transport of upright and grand pianos
- Part load: affordable transport for long-distance moves
- Parking restriction zone: organising parking space in the city centre
All services can be booked individually or combined into an individual overall package. Our team brings its own packing material, dismantles and assembles furniture professionally and protects all transport routes against damage. In Schwerin in particular, with its mix of historic buildings and prefab estates, advance planning pays off: we ask how narrow the stairwell is, whether there is no lift and whether the street is suitable for a larger vehicle. This saves you time, nerves and, in the end, real money.
Office and business moves in the state capital
As the state capital of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schwerin is the seat of numerous public authorities and the state government, as well as many medium-sized companies in services, IT and the skilled trades. Office locations can be found in the Feldstadt, around Marienplatz and in modern business parks on the edge of the city, among other places. A business move in Schwerin has different requirements from a private move: it is about minimal downtime, sensitive data and often bulky office furniture or IT infrastructure.
We therefore prefer to plan office moves outside regular business hours or at weekends, so as to disrupt ongoing operations as little as possible. This includes professional dismantling and reassembly of desk systems, safe transport of servers and equipment, and structured labelling of boxes by department, so that everything is quickly ready for use again at the new location.
- Move planning with a schedule and a contact person on site
- Dismantling/assembly of office furniture and filing cabinets
- Safe transport of IT equipment and servers
- Moves outside business hours possible
- Discreet handling of sensitive documents
We also offer tailor-made solutions for practices, law firms and smaller shops in the city centre, including parking restriction zones for smooth loading right outside the building. If required, we coordinate the move across several sites at once, for example when a company based in Schwerin also has branches in Rostock or Neubrandenburg. You will find details of our range of services for businesses under business move. This way, your office move is completed on schedule and with minimal interruption to day-to-day business.
Student moves in Schwerin & simple booking
Even though Schwerin itself does not have a large university, many young people move to or away from Schwerin for vocational training, a university of cooperative education or studies at the nearby Hochschule Wismar – often between small flats in the old town, shared-flat rooms in the Paulsstadt or studios in Neu Zippendorf. For this group, we offer a special student move with fair flat-rate prices and flexible dates, including at short notice at the change of semester.
The process is deliberately kept straightforward: after a short enquiry by phone or online form, you receive a flat-rate fixed-price quote, usually without a prior survey, based on the number of rooms and the approximate volume of household goods. We then arrange a date that fits around lecture timetables or exam periods. On moving day, we take care of loading and unloading and, on request, packing the most important items.
- Send an enquiry online or by phone
- Receive a fixed-price quote with no hidden costs
- Agree your preferred date flexibly, including at weekends
- Loading and unloading by our team from Berlin
- Optional parking restriction zone for narrow streets in the old town
Especially where access is tight in Schwerin's old town or Schelfstadt, a short-notice parking restriction zone, which we organise for you, is often worthwhile. If you only need to transport a few boxes and pieces of furniture, you can also use our part load and save even more. You can complete the whole booking with us – from the first enquiry to the order confirmation – in a few minutes online, by e-mail or by phone. You will find more information on prices and services under student move.
Parking space reservation in Schwerin: lower traffic authority, deadline and signs
For a move in Schwerin, you apply for a parking space reservation to the state capital, Fachgruppe Untere Verkehrsbehörde, Sondernutzungen (lower traffic authority, special uses), Am Packhof 2-6, 19053 Schwerin. The application is informal and can also be made online via the service portal. The service portal states a deadline: the application must be submitted at least 10 working days before the moving date. The fee depends on the duration and scope of the permit; the city does not state an amount.
The authority does not put up the signs. You commission a signage company yourself, which, according to the service portal, puts up the signs no later than 4 days before the moving date. The city's administration page states at least three days and points out that the signs may only be put up after approval. To be on the safe side, plan for four days. Record the time and exact location in a set-up record. A separate order is needed for the moving-in and moving-out locations.
Anyone who has to drive the removal van into a pedestrian zone or closed street also needs a separate exemption permit. Do-it-yourself barriers with ropes, boxes or chairs are not recommended: others are allowed to remove them, and the police can impose a warning fine or a fine. You can find more about our process under parking restriction zone.
Schwerin when moving: old town, Schelfstadt, Paulsstadt and prefab districts
The old town is the historic core with the palace and medieval cathedral. The Schelfstadt is regarded as a largely restored, coherent ensemble of old buildings with a Baroque market and many courtyards. Anyone moving in or out there should clarify in advance how furniture will be carried through entrances and along courtyard routes.
The Paulsstadt was laid out from the middle of the 19th century mainly to plans by the architect Georg Adolf Demmler; according to the city, green space is scarce there. The Weststadt was built between 1955 and the early 1970s, and the Großer Dreesch is a prefab estate begun in 1971. In such housing estates, it is above all the floor, the lift and the distance between the front door and the van that determine the effort. Lankow combines older housing estates, prefab blocks and new quarters between the lakes. The Weststadt is considered popular because of its proximity to the city centre, its allotment gardens and Lake Lankow. The city also lists the Feldstadt, Werdervorstadt, Ostorf, Zippendorf, Neu Zippendorf and Mueßer Holz as districts, among others.
The details we need for a binding quote are set out in the guide to moving to Schwerin. If your journey takes you further to the Baltic, you will also find information on the page about Rostock.
