Key answers for your move in Rostock
The costs depend on the size of the flat and the effort involved. A 1-room flat starts from €344, a 2-room flat from €599 and a 3-room flat from €915. For a long-distance move from Rostock, we calculate from €4.20 per kilometre.
How a move works in the Hanseatic City on the Warnow
A move in Rostock has a few particular features, which we as a moving company from Berlin-Moabit clarify with you in advance. The Hanseatic City on the Warnow is characterised by a mix of historic old town, Gründerzeit quarters and modern new-build areas – each residential location places its own demands on planning and logistics. Narrow streets in the city centre, Gründerzeit houses in the Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt and the proximity of the Baltic port call for careful preparation.
The classic process of a move in Rostock begins with a free survey on site or by video, in which we record your furniture, access to the flat and any particular features such as narrow stairwells or missing lifts. We then prepare a transparent quote covering all services from organising the private move to the packing service.
As Rostock, the university city and economic centre of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, sees many people moving in and out, dates at peak times – such as the start of semester or the summer holidays – are booked up early. The traffic situation around Rostock's city harbour, the Warnow crossing and the B103 and B105 federal roads also feeds into our route planning.
For moves within the city, we clarify with you in advance how narrow the access is, where the van can stop and whether a parking restriction is needed – for example at Doberaner Platz or in the city centre around the Neuer Markt. This planning saves time, nerves and ultimately costs on moving day.
Whether it is a full service with packing, furniture assembly and final cleaning or transport only – we adapt our offer to your needs. Sensitive transports such as piano transport are also part of our portfolio and are carried out with dedicated securing.
31 localities, 21 urban areas: residential areas in Rostock
Rostock is divided into 31 localities (Ortsteile), which are grouped into 21 urban areas for statistical purposes. For move planning, it is above all the type of building that counts. The city centre around the Neuer Markt and Kröpeliner Straße has historic buildings, often with narrow stairwells and little parking space – a parking restriction zone often makes sense here.
The Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt (KTV) and the Hansaviertel were built in the 19th and early 20th centuries; period buildings without a lift are common there. Many students live here, which is why our student move is often in demand.
The Südstadt, Reutershagen, Evershagen, Lütten Klein, Groß Klein, Schmarl and Lichtenhagen were built from 1960 onwards, mostly using prefabricated panels. There, the floor, lift and the route from the parking space to the building entrance determine the time and staff required.
Warnemünde is the north-westernmost urban area and a Baltic seaside resort; in the summer season there is more traffic there, which we take into account when choosing the date.
East of the Warnow lie Gehlsdorf, Dierkow and Toitenwinkel; in Dierkow and Brinckmansdorf there are estates from the period between the world wars, alongside large 1980s housing estates. A detached house places different demands on a move from a flat on the fifth floor.
| District | Type of building | What we look out for |
|---|---|---|
| City centre/Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt | Historic, Gründerzeit, densely built-up | Parking restriction zone often useful |
| Südstadt | Prefab blocks from 1960, close to university facilities | Many student moves |
| Lichtenhagen/Evershagen | Prefab blocks | Clarify floor and lift in advance |
| Warnemünde | Baltic seaside resort, touristy | Seasonal traffic peaks |
| Brinckmansdorf/Gehlsdorf | Estates, detached houses | Check access to the property |
Guide prices for moves in Rostock
Moving costs in Rostock depend on several factors: the size of the flat, the floor, the distance to the new home and any additional services required, such as packing or furniture assembly. As a transparent moving company, we calculate our prices fairly and comprehensibly, with no hidden costs.
For a typical private move in Rostock, the following guide prices apply; they serve as orientation and may vary depending on the effort involved:
- 1-room flat: from €344 – ideal for students or people starting their careers
- 2-room flat: from €599 – the most common moving size for couples
- 3-room flat: from €915 – standard for families
- Long-distance move from Rostock: from €4.20/km, for example to Berlin, Hamburg or other federal states
In addition, there may be costs for a parking restriction zone, which are between €30 and €100 per day depending on the street and duration. Especially in Rostock city centre, for example around the Kröpeliner Tor or Universitätsplatz, this measure often makes sense so that the removal van can park right outside the door and long carrying distances are avoided.
If you also need a clearance, for example when dissolving a household or moving a deceased person's estate, you can easily book this service as well. Combinations of a move and small transports, known as a part load, are also possible for Rostock and the surrounding area and save real money if not the entire household has to be transported.
Our aim is to prepare an individual fixed-price quote for you that realistically reflects all services – with no surprises on the final invoice. A free survey, whether on site or digital, is the first step.
Parking restrictions and parking space in the city centre and KTV
Parking is a central issue in every move in Rostock – especially in densely built-up areas such as the city centre, the Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt or around the Steintor. Parking space there is scarce and can hardly be secured without a permit.
A parking restriction zone outside the old or new address ensures that the removal van can be loaded and unloaded directly, without long carrying distances over busy pavements. This saves time, protects furniture and ultimately lowers the cost of the move too.
The responsible office is the road traffic authority of the Hanseatic City of Rostock. The deadline, fee and signage stated by the city are set out in the section on temporary parking restrictions further down; according to our price list, a parking restriction zone costs between €30 and €100 per day, depending on location and duration. In Warnemünde, things can also get tight during the season.
What you should pay attention to:
- Apply as soon as the moving date is fixed
- The signs are put up by a commissioned traffic safety company, only after approval
- Submit a separate application for the moving-in and moving-out locations
- For short-notice moves, we look at other solutions with you
In districts with more space, for example in Biestow, Brinckmansdorf or parts of Reutershagen, a parking restriction zone is often not essential. We clarify whether and to what extent it makes sense based on your address and the survey – so you avoid unnecessary costs and moving day stays predictable.
Rostock on the A19 and A20: routes to Berlin and around the region
Rostock lies on the A19 (towards Berlin via the Wittstock/Dosse interchange and the A24) and on the A20 (Lübeck–Stralsund–Szczecin); the two meet at the Rostock motorway interchange. There are also the B103, B105 and B110 federal roads.
From our company at Stromstraße 21 to Rostock, it is around 220 road kilometres, about three hours by lorry. We handle moves between Rostock and Berlin in both directions; to Hamburg it is around 180 km.
According to our price list, we calculate longer distances from Rostock from €4.20 per kilometre, depending on the moving volume and additional services. For a few pieces of furniture, a part load is often worthwhile, with your belongings transported together with other jobs – this lowers the costs, especially for small households or partial moves.
We also handle moves within Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, for example from or to:
- Schwerin – around 90 road kilometres to the south-west
- Stralsund – around 105 km to the north-east, gateway to the island of Rügen
- Greifswald – around 95 km to the east, university town on the Ryck
- Neubrandenburg – to the south-east in the Mecklenburg Lake District
For each of these routes, we determine the vehicle, staff and time window after the survey and give you a single contact person. We discuss combined runs, such as moving out in Rostock and moving in in Schwerin on the same day, with you beforehand.
Services for your move in Rostock
As a moving company from Berlin-Moabit, we offer a comprehensive range of services for Rostock, tailored to the needs of private individuals, families and businesses. Our aim is to make every move – large or small – as stress-free as possible.
For a private move, we take care of the entire organisation, from planning and packing to reassembling the furniture in the new flat. For this, we ask precisely about the conditions in Rostock in advance – from the narrow old town to the prefab estates in Groß Klein or Schmarl.
For older residents, we offer a special seniors' move, which is planned particularly considerately and with enough time for sensitive situations – for example when moving into a smaller flat or a care home.
Our services at a glance:
- Full service with packing, transport and assembly
- Clearance of flats, cellars and attics
- Piano transport for valuable and delicate instruments
- Part load for smaller transports and partial moves
- Organising a parking restriction zone for smooth access
- Furniture storage for interim solutions
We also plan special requirements, such as carrying bulky furniture through narrow stairwells in the Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt or moving into tower blocks in Lichtenhagen and Evershagen, with suitable equipment such as carrying straps and, where necessary, a furniture lift.
Our standard is to look after every move in Rostock individually – with personal advice, transparent communication and a single contact person from the first enquiry to the last box.
Office and business moves in Rostock
As a port city and business location with a university, maritime industry and a growing service sector, Rostock is an important economic engine of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Demand for professional office and business moves in the Hanseatic City is correspondingly high.
Whether it is a small start-up in the city centre, a medium-sized company in a business park on the edge of town or a larger administrative unit near the port – we plan every business move so that operations are disrupted as little as possible. We therefore carry out many moves outside regular business hours or at weekends.
Our services for business moves in Rostock include:
- Dismantling and assembly of office furniture and filing cabinets
- Safe transport of IT infrastructure, servers and technical equipment
- Labelling and systematic marking for quick reassembly
- Coordination with landlords and property managers on site
- Setting up a parking restriction zone for unobstructed access to office buildings
Especially in Rostock city centre, where many offices are housed in historic buildings with limited lift access, detailed advance planning is crucial. We draw up a precise schedule beforehand that takes into account the number of floors, access routes and the number of workstations.
Moving laboratory equipment, sensitive devices or archives – for example for companies associated with the University of Rostock or in the city's technology and business parks – is also part of our range of services. We work with special packing material and precise advance planning to handle even complex business moves safely and on schedule.
After the move, we can also help with disposing of old furniture or documents that are no longer needed – quickly, easily and in line with the Hanseatic City of Rostock's local disposal rules.
Student moves in Rostock & simple booking
Founded in 1419, the University of Rostock is one of the oldest universities in Germany and attracts many students every year. Many of them live near the university, for example in the Südstadt, the Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt or around the campus buildings. For this group, we offer a special student move tailored to small budgets and usually modest moving volumes.
A student move in Rostock often differs from a classic flat move: it is usually about shared-flat rooms, small studios or one-room flats, often combined with a tight time window around the start or end of semester. At these peak times, dates are booked up early – so enquire in good time.
Our services for students include:
- Affordable fixed prices adapted to small moving volumes, from €344 for 1-room flats
- Flexible dates, even at short notice, especially around the start of semester
- Help with transporting furniture from halls of residence and shared flats
- Optional part load to save costs on smaller moving volumes
Our booking process could hardly be simpler: via our online form or by phone, you receive a non-binding quote within a short time. Once the date is agreed, we take care of everything else – from packing to transport to your new accommodation, whether within Rostock or to another university town.
The typical process is divided into the following steps:
- Free enquiry by phone, e-mail or online form
- Individual quote based on moving volume and distance
- Arranging the date, also possible at short notice
- The move carried out by our team from Berlin
- Optional final cleaning or clearance of the old flat
This way even a stressful end-of-semester move becomes a smooth affair – quick, straightforward and fairly priced.
Temporary parking restriction in Rostock: three weeks' notice, fee and signage
For the removal van in Rostock, you need a temporary parking restriction. The responsible office is the Hanseatic City's road traffic authority; Rostock town hall cites §§ 45 and 46 of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) as the legal basis. According to the town hall, you should submit the application at least three weeks before the moving date, in writing by post, e-mail or fax, or in person at the contact address given.
The town hall states an administrative fee of €20.00. In addition, there are the costs of signage by a traffic safety company, which the town hall puts at approx. €120.00 or more. The no-stopping signs together with the additional panels must be put up before the moving date. If a parking restriction is needed at both addresses, submit a separate application for each of the moving-in and moving-out locations. The town hall has its own page on this, „Genehmigung für private Umzüge“ (permits for private moves), from the traffic department in the Stadtamt. So only commission the company once you know when the permit will be issued.
Because three weeks' notice is recommended, it is worth applying as soon as the moving date is fixed. In the application, state the street, house number, date, time and the required length of the parking restriction. We match our vehicle planning to your approved period. You can find an overview of the process and your options under parking restriction zone.
Rostock's urban areas: Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt, Steintor-Vorstadt, Warnemünde and Südstadt
For statistical purposes, the Hanseatic City is divided into 21 urban areas. The Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt is an urban area in its own right; the Steintor-Vorstadt, on the other hand, counts as part of the city centre. Both suburbs were built around 1830, when Rostock grew beyond its medieval city wall. In such historically grown quarters, we clarify stairwells, carrying distances and the distance between the front door and the van before the move.
As the north-westernmost urban area, Warnemünde comprises the localities of Seebad Warnemünde and Seebad Diedrichshagen. The Südstadt was built between 1960 and 1965 as Rostock's first urban area constructed entirely of large prefabricated panels. There, the floor and lift usually determine the time and staff required; in the suburbs, it is more the stairs and access. The Hanseatic City provides an overview of all urban areas in its interactive urban area catalogue.
For planning, the exact address is more important than the name of the urban area: it determines where the van can stop and whether a parking restriction is needed. The guide to moving to Rostock brings together prices, residential areas and tips for newcomers. When you enquire, tell us the exact address, the floor, whether there is a lift and how close the van can stop. If you also have Schwerin in mind, you will find the page on moving companies in Schwerin.
