Key answers for your move in Berlin Mitte
The Mitte district comprises the neighbourhoods of Mitte (centre), Moabit, Wedding, Gesundbrunnen, Hansaviertel and Tiergarten. Each neighbourhood has its own structural and traffic features, which we take into account with every move.
Moving in Berlin-Mitte: from the historic centre to the working-class neighbourhoods in the north
If you move in Mitte, you are moving into the historic heart of Berlin – between the TV Tower, Museum Island, the Brandenburg Gate and the government quarter. As a moving company in Mitte, Praktik Transport und Umzüge looks closely at the particular features of this central district well: narrow one-way streets, historic buildings, dense development and heavy traffic around Alexanderplatz, Hauptbahnhof and Potsdamer Platz.
The Mitte district is extremely diverse, geographically and culturally. It stretches from the classicist centre across the Spree to the working-class neighbourhoods in the north. This diversity places special demands on every move – whether a household move into a period flat at Hackescher Markt or a company move into a modern office building near Hauptbahnhof.
Our team plans every move in Mitte individually: from the first survey and applying for the necessary permits to smooth execution on moving day. In doing so we take into account the narrow access routes in the Spandauer Vorstadt just as much as the modern residential complexes of the Europacity at Hauptbahnhof.
As Mitte borders Pankow, Reinickendorf, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Tempelhof-Schöneberg and Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, short moves within Berlin are just as common as long-distance moves to other federal states. When planning routes we take into account the traffic around the A100 and the federal roads B2, B5 and B96, so that your belongings arrive safely and on time.
Whether you are moving to Wedding, Moabit or the Hansaviertel – as a local moving company in Mitte we carry out your move professionally, on schedule and without stress.
Neighbourhoods in Mitte – local moving planning for every area
The Mitte district is divided into six neighbourhoods, which differ markedly in character, buildings and infrastructure. As a moving company in Mitte that knows the area, we work regularly in each of these neighbourhoods:
- Mitte (centre) – historic old buildings around Alexanderplatz, Hackescher Markt and the Nikolaiviertel
- Moabit – densely built neighbourhood between the Spree and Westhafen with many Gründerzeit buildings
- Wedding – lively working-class area with a mix of old buildings and post-war architecture
- Gesundbrunnen – young, growing neighbourhood around the station of the same name
- Hansaviertel – listed post-war modernism from the Interbau 1957, tower blocks with sometimes small lifts
- Tiergarten – embassy quarter and residential areas by the Großer Tiergarten park
Each of these neighbourhoods brings its own logistical challenges. While in central Mitte narrow cobbled streets and short-stay parking zones often make moving furniture difficult, Moabit and Wedding have wider streets but often no lifts in their Gründerzeit buildings.
In the Hansaviertel the point tower blocks have lifts, but these are often small; large furniture there sometimes needs a furniture lift. Gesundbrunnen, meanwhile, is growing steadily – many new-build projects are going up here, with special requirements for access and loading times.
Our local knowledge across all six neighbourhoods enables us to prepare every move in Mitte in the best possible way – whether it is a small student move into a shared flat at Nordbahnhof or a complete household on Auguststraße.
Old and new buildings in Mitte – moving with professional preparation
Hardly any other Berlin district combines architectural contrasts as clearly as Mitte. Between restored Gründerzeit buildings in the Spandauer Vorstadt and glass new builds in the Europacity there are often only a few hundred metres – and very different requirements for a professional move.
Period flats in Mitte, for example around Hackescher Markt, in Moabit or in northern Wedding, often have high ceilings, narrow stairwells and no lift or only a small one. Here tight bends, steep stairs and historic buildings need careful planning. Trained staff are indispensable especially for bulky furniture or piano transport from the third floor of an old building without a lift.
New builds, on the other hand, such as those increasingly going up around Hauptbahnhof, in the Europacity or at Gesundbrunnen, usually offer comfortable lifts, wide doors and level access. Even so, property managers often have strict rules here on delivery times, lift use and protection of communal areas, which we clarify with you in advance.
For older people who want to move from a period flat they have lived in for many years into a low-barrier new-build flat, we offer a sensitive senior move that takes special needs into account.
Our team brings the right equipment for both types of home: from furniture sliders and carrying straps for steep period-building stairs to lift protection and floor runners for modern new builds. This way we ensure that, whatever the year of construction or building type, every move in Mitte runs safely, efficiently and without damage to your property or the building.
Setting up a parking restriction zone in Mitte – moving legally and without stress
Mitte is one of Berlin's busiest districts. Around Alexanderplatz, Hackescher Markt, Hauptbahnhof and the government quarter there is heavy traffic all day, and parking space is particularly scarce. For a smooth move, setting up a parking restriction zone in good time is therefore essential on many streets in Mitte.
Without a designated loading zone, moving day can bring long waits, long carrying distances or even conflicts with other road users. Especially on narrow streets in the Spandauer Vorstadt, in Moabit or around Wedding, a reserved space directly in front of the door is crucial for moving furniture safely and quickly.
We take care of the complete application for the parking restriction zone at the Mitte road traffic authority for you – including signage and putting it up in good time in line with the order. This way you are legally covered and avoid fines or waiting times.
| Zone | Cost per day |
|---|---|
| Side street, low traffic | from €30 |
| Main road or central location | €50–80 |
| High-footfall inner-city area (e.g. near Alexanderplatz) | up to €100 |
The exact costs depend on the location, the length of the zone required and the processing time at the office. As processing in Mitte can take several weeks depending on workload, we recommend commissioning it early – ideally four to six weeks before the planned moving date.
This way we ensure a stress-free start to moving day in the busy centre of Berlin.
Moving costs in Mitte – transparent prices for every type of move
The moving costs in Mitte depend on several factors: flat size, floor, distance, accessibility and the extra services you want. As Mitte includes both narrow period-building streets and modern new-build areas, we calculate every move individually – on the basis of fair, transparent base prices.
| Type of move | Price from |
|---|---|
| One-room flat | €349 |
| Two-room flat | €609 |
| Three-room flat | €915 |
| Long-distance move (per km) | €3.90 |
| Parking restriction zone (per day) | €30–100 |
These guide values apply to standard moves within Berlin and serve as initial orientation. Additional factors such as a missing lift in an old building in Moabit, a long carrying route in the Hansaviertel or special items of furniture can affect the final price.
Extra services such as professional clearance before moving out or affordable part-load transport for smaller loads can also be added flexibly and affect the total cost.
We recommend having a free survey carried out before every move in Mitte. This allows us to realistically assess the access situation, any parking restriction zones and the actual effort, and to prepare a binding, transparent quote for you with no hidden costs.
Especially for moves between Mitte and neighbouring districts, or long-distance moves to other federal states, it is worth comparing different service packages – from a simple transport run to an all-round service with packing, assembly and disposal.
Popular moving routes to and from Mitte
Thanks to its central location, Mitte is the starting point and destination of numerous moves within Berlin. The neighbouring districts are easy to reach via the federal roads B2, B5 and B96 and the A100 urban motorway. Common routes include:
- Mitte – Prenzlauer Berg: a short route to the neighbouring district of Pankow, popular with families and students
- Mitte – Kreuzberg: via the Spree bridges and Friedrichstraße
- Mitte – Friedrichshain: via Karl-Marx-Allee
- Mitte – Niederschönhausen: north into green Pankow
- Mitte – Haselhorst: westwards towards Spandau, usually via the urban motorway
Within the district, moves between neighbourhoods are also the order of the day – for example from Moabit to Tiergarten or from Wedding to the Spandauer Vorstadt. These short distances allow us to coordinate several smaller moves on the same day.
For moves out of Berlin, the A100 and the A111 heading north are close by; we set the exact route in the quote.
Whether a short route within Berlin or further afield – we plan every route carefully to avoid waiting times and carry out your move on schedule.

- Household move – for moving home within Mitte or to other districts
- Company move – professional moves for offices and businesses, e.g. around Hauptbahnhof
- Part-load transport – affordable transport of smaller quantities on the groupage principle

We attach great importance to careful packing, professional furniture assembly and a smooth process, so that you do not have to take care of anything yourself.
Get in touch – we will put together the right service package from these building blocks for your individual move in Mitte.
How your move works with the moving company in Mitte
A well-organised move in Mitte follows a clear, proven process, tailored to the district's particular conditions – narrow streets, historic buildings and heavy traffic.
1. Initial consultation and survey: we record your living situation, whether an old building in Moabit, a new build in the Europacity or office space near the government quarter, and clarify the actual effort on site.
2. Quote: based on flat size, floor, distance and the extra services you want, you receive a transparent, binding quote with no hidden costs.
3. Planning the parking restriction zone: if needed, we apply early for a parking restriction zone to ensure short carrying routes and safe stopping times on moving day.
4. Packing and preparation: our team packs your belongings properly, secures delicate furniture and carefully prepares the transport of special items such as pianos.
5. Carrying out the move: on moving day we handle loading and unloading, transport and furniture assembly – coordinated with the traffic around Alexanderplatz, Hauptbahnhof or the B96.
6. Final cleaning and follow-up: on request we also take care of clearing the old flat and minor follow-up work in your new home.
This structured process has proved itself in numerous moves between Mitte's neighbourhoods and the adjoining districts. It minimises waiting times, protects your property and ensures that you can sit back and relax on moving day while we take care of every detail.
Parking restrictions in Berlin-Mitte: road traffic authority, lead time and main roads
The road traffic authority of the district office is responsible for a parking restriction for a move in Mitte. According to the district office, it orders temporary parking restrictions for moves, deliveries and similar purposes. According to service.berlin.de, the application is informal and the minimum fee is €21.00, depending on scope and duration.
Be careful with the lead time: Service Berlin states an average processing time of about 4 weeks. On its page, the Mitte road traffic authority also points out that processing times are longer and short-notice processing is not possible. So submit your application as early as possible.
The category of road also matters. According to the authority, the central road traffic authority at the Senate Department (Senatsverwaltung) is generally responsible for measures on main roads, while the district office handles side streets. This is important if you live on a major traffic artery. If in doubt, ask the Mitte road traffic authority which office covers your address.
According to Service Berlin, the authority only issues the order; the traffic signs must be put up separately, for example by a site safety company.
Our depot is at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit, so in the same district. You can read more about the process in our guide applying for a parking restriction zone and on the parking restriction zone page.
Moabit, Wedding, Tiergarten and more: the six neighbourhoods of Berlin-Mitte
According to the district office, the Mitte district consists of six neighbourhoods: Mitte, Moabit, Hansaviertel, Tiergarten, Wedding and Gesundbrunnen. Our depot is in Moabit, a centrally located, densely populated neighbourhood bounded by the Spree, the Berlin-Spandau Ship Canal, the Westhafen Canal and the Charlottenburg Connecting Canal. According to the district office, Moabit was an industrial and working-class area and is known today, among other things, for the largest criminal court in Europe.
To the north lie Wedding and Gesundbrunnen. For Wedding, the district office names Leopoldplatz as the central meeting point, which together with Müllerstraße offers plenty of shopping. Tiergarten and the Hansaviertel are also part of our service area.
In the historic core, Alexanderplatz and the adjoining quarters play a role. According to berlin.de, people here live in, among other places, prefab tower blocks from GDR times, old buildings and exclusive flats. For a move, this mix means that access, lift and carrying route differ from building to building.
In Mitte's business environment, offices and practices also come into play. You will find more on commercial projects under company move. Whether home or office: on request we carry out a free survey and then prepare a fixed quote. Moving to a neighbouring district? Then take a look at Pankow or Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg.
