Key answers for your move in Berlin Johannisthal
After a free on-site survey, for example near Johannisthal S-Bahn station, we prepare a fixed price and plan the route and parking restriction zone together with you.
Johannisthal between the airfield, Sterndamm and Königsheide
The team of Praktik Transport und Umzüge – brand Beste Umzug – comes from Moabit and plans every move in Johannisthal in the Treptow-Köpenick district based on the specific address. Johannisthal is shaped by its history as the cradle of German aviation: Johannisthal airfield, opened in 1909, was Germany's second motorised airfield; today the Johannisthal landscape park recalls this period and offers residents a green recreational area right on their doorstep. Anyone moving here encounters a colourful mix of older residential buildings, small-house and owner-occupied estates and new residential quarters on Segelfliegerdamm – each type of building places its own demands on a smooth move.
For planning, what counts above all are Sterndamm as the main street, Segelfliegerdamm and Groß-Berliner Damm, which connects Johannisthal with the neighbouring area of Adlershof. The connections via Johannisthal S-Bahn station and several tram lines also make the neighbourhood easy to reach, but also lead to heavy traffic, which we always take into account when planning the move.
Whether a private move into a period flat, a business relocation in the business park near the science city or simply transporting individual pieces of furniture by part-load transport – we plan every move in Johannisthal individually, on schedule and at a fair fixed price. Other neighbourhoods such as Oberschöneweide and Alt-Treptow are also part of our service area, so that we can support you with a single contact person for moves between neighbourhoods too.
Moving in Johannisthal: process and special features of the neighbourhood
A move in Johannisthal differs considerably depending on the location. In the older residential buildings on Sterndamm and its side streets we often find narrow stairwells, tight courtyard entrances and flats without a lift. Care is needed here to transport furniture safely and without damaging walls or banisters. In the new-build areas, for example on Segelfliegerdamm or along Groß-Berliner Damm, there are lifts, but they are often narrow, so that large wall units or sofas still have to be carried via the stairwell.
The approach also needs to be well planned: Sterndamm, as the central traffic axis, is very busy at peak times, while many side streets often offer only limited parking. Ahead of every survey we check where the removal van can best be positioned and whether a parking restriction zone makes sense, in order to shorten loading times and not inconvenience residents unnecessarily.
The proximity to Königsheide and the Johannisthal landscape park also means that many residential streets on the edge of the neighbourhood are quieter and greener, which makes moving day more pleasant, but also means that access routes for removal lorries can sometimes be longer. We therefore plan the tour in advance based on your address, so that your move in Johannisthal runs quickly and stress-free – whether it is a small single flat or a large family with lots of household goods. Our aim is to take every organisational task off your hands as a customer and to make the entire process transparent.
Our moving services for Johannisthal at a glance
For residents and businesses in Johannisthal we offer a wide range of services tailored to local conditions. For private households we handle the complete private move, from packing to assembling the furniture in the new flat. Especially in the business parks near the Adlershof science city, which borders directly on Johannisthal, we are also a sought-after partner for the business relocation of offices, laboratories and small businesses – including restoring the IT infrastructure on schedule.
Anyone who only wants to transport individual pieces of furniture, such as a wardrobe from a period flat on Sterndamm, benefits from our part-load transport on attractive terms. When moving out of flats with household goods accumulated over many years, we support you with a professional house clearance, which also reliably empties cellars and attics in the older buildings around Segelfliegerdamm.
For delicate instruments we offer special piano transport, which requires sensitivity, especially in the narrow stairwells of the period buildings. After transport we take care of complete furniture assembly on request, so that shelves, beds and wardrobes are ready for use straight away. We support older residents, who often live in the quieter residential areas near Königsheide, sensitively with our senior move, which in addition to the actual transport can also include dealing with the authorities and cancelling old contracts. This way you get all the services for your move in Johannisthal from a single source.
Parking restriction zone and parking when moving in Johannisthal
Anyone who has ever tried to find a parking space for a removal van on the spur of the moment near Johannisthal S-Bahn station or along busy Sterndamm knows that it is often hopeless. Streets such as Segelfliegerdamm or Groß-Berliner Damm are densely built and offer only limited parking space, which is also heavily used during the day by residents and commuters.
So that your moving day is not delayed by endless searching for a space or by long carrying distances, we take care of applying for a parking restriction zone right outside your property. We handle communication with the road traffic authority of the Treptow-Köpenick district office, put up the signs in good time before the moving date and thus ensure that the removal lorry can park right outside the front door.
This is particularly relevant in the densely built period quarters around Sterndamm, where narrow courtyards and narrow pavements would otherwise make long carrying distances unavoidable. For the new builds on Segelfliegerdamm too, where delivery zones are often used by several parties at the same time, a reserved parking restriction zone has proved its worth in avoiding delays.
- Timely application for the parking restriction zone by our team
- Stopping space checked in advance, for example on Segelfliegerdamm or Sterndamm
- Shorter carrying distances, lower risk of damage to furniture and façades
- Smooth process even on busy roads such as Sterndamm
This way we make sure that moving day is as relaxed as possible for you and your neighbours, without any unnecessary parking stress.
Moving costs in Johannisthal: transparent fixed prices
The moving costs in Johannisthal depend on several factors: the size of the flat, the floor, whether there is a lift and the distance between the old and new address. A move within the neighbourhood, for example from Sterndamm to a new build on Segelfliegerdamm, is naturally cheaper than a move beyond the district boundary. A detailed overview of typical price ranges and influencing factors can be found on our page on Moving costs Berlin.
To give you planning certainty from the outset, we offer a binding fixed price after a free on-site survey. This already includes the vehicle, staff, packing materials and coordination of any parking restriction zone. Additional services such as furniture assembly, piano transport or a house clearance can easily be added and are shown transparently.
Especially for period flats in Johannisthal, which are often on upper floors without a lift, the effort involved in carrying plays a bigger role in the price than for ground-floor new-build flats. We already take this into account during the survey, so that there are no nasty surprises later. For business relocations in the business park near Adlershof, too, we calculate individually according to effort, number of workstations and the time needed outside regular business hours.
Our aim is to give you the greatest possible certainty with a fair and comprehensible fixed price – regardless of whether you are moving within Johannisthal or planning a long-distance move to another city.
Period buildings, furniture lifts and floor-to-floor moves in Johannisthal
Johannisthal is characterised by particularly varied buildings: alongside older residential buildings on Sterndamm and estates such as the Schliemannsiedlung, new residential quarters on Segelfliegerdamm and on the former airfield shape the streetscape. This variety makes very different demands during a move.
Many period buildings still have no lift, while narrow stairwells with tight bends make it difficult to transport large pieces of furniture. For such cases we deliberately use a furniture lift, which carries sofas, wardrobes and pianos safely via the façade to the relevant floor – gentle on the stairwell, the furniture and your nerves. Especially in combination with our piano transport, the furniture lift has proved its worth for flats on the upper floors of the period buildings.
Newer apartment buildings, for example on Groß-Berliner Damm, do have lifts, but these are often narrow and not sufficient for bulky furniture. Here too we check carefully in advance whether a furniture lift is the quicker and gentler alternative.
After the actual transport we also offer the right furniture assembly, so that beds, wardrobes and shelves are ready for use straight away in the new flat – whether in a light-flooded new build or a stucco-decorated period flat. For senior citizens, who often live in Johannisthal's quieter period housing, we also recommend our sensitive senior move, which is designed with particular emphasis on safety and consideration.
Popular moving routes from Johannisthal
Many of the moves we carry out from Johannisthal lead to the directly adjacent neighbourhoods. We particularly often handle moves to Adlershof, which is directly connected via Groß-Berliner Damm and, with its science city, brings many work-related moves. Moves to Oberschöneweide, which is well connected by tram, are also part of our daily business.
Other popular destinations are Köpenick with its historic old town centre and Friedrichshagen on the Müggelsee, where above all families move who are looking for more greenery and waterside locations. Many moves also lead north via Alt-Treptow and Plänterwald, for example when commuters want to move closer to the city centre.
For all these routes we plan the journey taking into account the traffic on Sterndamm, roadworks and the respective parking regulations in the destination neighbourhood. Because we check every address beforehand, we can estimate loading times realistically and minimise waiting times.
Of course, we also handle moves that go beyond the district boundaries – whether within Berlin or as a classic long-distance move to another city or federal state. With a well-coordinated team we make sure that longer distances are also covered on schedule and without damage to your belongings. Whether a short distance within Treptow-Köpenick or a long journey across Germany: we plan every route with the same care.
Booking a move in Johannisthal: process and insider tip
We deliberately keep booking your move in Johannisthal simple. After you briefly get in touch, we arrange an appointment for a free survey, in which we assess your flat, the stairwell and the parking situation on site – whether in an older house on Sterndamm, a flat on Groß-Berliner Damm or a new build on Segelfliegerdamm. On this basis we prepare a binding fixed price for you that covers all agreed services.
We then take over the complete organisation on request: from applying for the parking restriction zone and professional packing to furniture assembly in the new flat. Special requests such as piano transport or an accompanying house clearance can also be planned in advance, so that there are no more surprises on moving day itself.
A little insider tip for everyone moving to Johannisthal: a walk through the Johannisthal landscape park on the site of the former airfield is well worth it – historic information boards tell the story of the aviation pioneers, while the wide meadows offer a pleasant contrast to the stress of moving. The Königsheide forest in the north also invites a relaxed walk once the work is done and is a popular place to settle into the new neighbourhood.
Whether a short-notice moving date or a long-planned change of home: contact us early so that we have enough time to plan your move in Johannisthal carefully. We look forward to accompanying you, with careful planning and a reliable team, as you start life in your new flat in Johannisthal.
Applying for a parking restriction in Johannisthal: how it works in the Treptow-Köpenick district
The road traffic authority of the Treptow-Köpenick district is responsible for Johannisthal. According to service.berlin.de it is located in the Roads and Green Spaces Office, Neue Krugallee 4, 12435 Berlin, telephone (030) 90297-0, email [email protected]. Opening hours are by telephone arrangement, Monday to Friday.
The application is informal; the Berlin administration does not mention any particular prerequisites. The minimum fee is 21.00 euros, and the final amount depends on extent and duration. The average processing time is about 4 weeks. So do not expect a short-notice appointment, but apply for the parking restriction in good time. Also factor in the costs of the company that puts up the signs, as the authority does not state their prices.
The authority issues an order, but no signs. For putting up the traffic signs, service.berlin.de recommends a roadworks safety company. In the application, state the street, the desired length of the area and the days on which loading and unloading will take place.
If you are moving from the neighbourhood to another district, a separate application to the road traffic authority there will be needed for the new address, because the responsible district is always the one in which the parking restriction is to apply. Everything else about planning can be found under Parking restriction zone and in the overview of Treptow-Köpenick.
Johannisthal: Sterndamm, the airfield and access for the removal van
Johannisthal became known as a health resort in the early 1880s, and Berlin's summer guests shaped the look of the village. Among the buildings, the district office mentions the town hall of 1906 at Sterndamm 102, which is now a local history museum and neighbourhood centre, and the waterworks of 1901 on Königsheideweg. A local shopping centre was built between Sterndamm and Groß-Berliner Damm.
For route planning, one piece of information from the district office is particularly useful: it describes the railway underpass on Sterndamm as a bottleneck. The railway is renewing the bridge, and the tram routing is being changed. We therefore check before moving day whether access is clear for our vehicle and plan a different route if necessary. Groß-Berliner Damm has been extended as far as Rudower Chaussee in Adlershof. According to the district office, the Görlitz railway of 1866, the Teltow Canal and the motorised airfield of 1909 opened up the area to traffic early on.
The former airfield is today a 70-hectare nature and landscape park, of which 26 hectares are not open to the public. Anyone living by the park should pay attention to the access roads when moving. Which address can be reached with which vehicle is something we clarify during the survey.
If you are moving to neighbouring Adlershof or to Baumschulenweg, you remain in the same district. You can find our offer for private moves under Private move.
