Moving company Britz

World Heritage, village core, apartment blocks: how different moving in Britz can be

move without stress

Unsere Firma Moving help for terraced houses, estate flats and period buildings in Berlin-Britz – planned in advance.
Britz is home to the Horseshoe Estate (Hufeisensiedlung) by Bruno Taut and Martin Wagner, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2008. Then there is the village core of Alt-Britz with its palace and manor farm, estates such as the Krugpfuhlsiedlung on Buschkrugallee, and apartment blocks on Britzer Damm. For your home removal this means: listed buildings, terraced houses or a lift.
We look at the address beforehand: how close can the van get to the front door, how narrow is the staircase in the estate house, is a furniture lift needed? Then the fixed price is set – on request with a packing service, furniture assembly, small-load transport or part-load transport.

A wardrobe or a few boxes from Britz? With part-load transport you share the trip.
With part-load transport (Beiladung) we use free loading space on runs across Berlin. In Britz this works, for example, if a piece of furniture needs to go to Buckow or Rudow or only one room is moving. For a whole household, a removal van of your own remains the better choice.

Questions about moving in Britz

Key answers for your move in Berlin Britz

Answers on no-stopping zones, the Horseshoe Estate, period buildings, costs and bulky waste for your move in Britz – from Grenzallee to Britz-Süd U-Bahn station.

As the Horseshoe Estate is a listed site, we plan access, stopping space and the use of a furniture lift particularly carefully. Narrow paths within the estate are checked in advance during the survey so that moving day runs smoothly.

Understanding Britz: Horseshoe Estate, Alt-Britz and the U7

Britz is a neighbourhood in the Neukölln district with around 44,000 inhabitants. It is best known for the Horseshoe Estate (Hufeisensiedlung): built from 1925 under Bruno Taut and Martin Wagner, it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site “Berlin Modernism Housing Estates” since 2008. Around the horseshoe-shaped block on Fritz-Reuter-Allee, terraced houses with front gardens line up – for a move this means narrow stairs, listed status and precise planning of the stopping space.

The village core of Alt-Britz is quite different, with Britz Palace (Schloss Britz), the manor farm housing the Museum Neukölln, and the village church on Backbergstraße. Along Buschkrugallee lies the Krugpfuhlsiedlung, and on Britzer Damm and Fulhamer Allee there are apartment blocks. To the south lies the Britzer Garten, the site of the 1985 Federal Garden Show (Bundesgartenschau). Four U7 stations are in the neighbourhood: Grenzallee, Blaschkoallee, Parchimer Allee and Britz-Süd. Gropiusstadt, formerly part of the Britz-Buckow-Rudow large housing estate, has been a neighbourhood in its own right since 2002.

We are Praktik Transport und Umzüge with the brand Beste Umzug and come from Stromstraße in Moabit. For a home removal in Britz we plan every step, from the survey and packing to reassembly. We also handle company relocations for businesses on Buschkrugallee or Gradestraße.

Because Britz is built so differently, we always recommend a survey: we can then realistically assess the floor, stairs, lift and parking options and give you a binding fixed price.

Our moving services in Britz

As a moving company in Britz, we offer the complete range of services for your flat or company move. Whether you are moving into a flat on Fritz-Reuter-Allee, taking over a terraced house in the Horseshoe Estate or clearing a period flat on Backbergstraße – we tailor our services individually to the living situation on site.

  • Home removal – from careful packing to reassembling your furniture
  • Company relocation – for offices and businesses along Buschkrugallee and Gradestraße
  • Part-load transport – the affordable alternative for smaller volumes or single items
  • Clearance – for cellars, lofts or complete household clearances
  • Piano transport – special equipment for your valuable instrument
  • Furniture assembly – wardrobe, bed and kitchen ready to use again on moving day
  • Senior move – considerate and patient, particularly in demand in the quiet residential areas around the Horseshoe Estate

Careful planning is especially important for household clearances in the 1920s and 1930s estates: narrow stairwells, historic door widths and in some cases no lifts require well-thought-out logistics rather than standard solutions. Our team looks at the floor plans during the survey and plans staff, vehicles and packing materials to suit the property. This way your move in Britz runs in a structured way and without unnecessary waiting, whether you are moving out of a period building on Britzer Damm or a flat on Fulhamer Allee.

Organising a no-stopping zone & parking in Britz

Parking space is a real issue in Britz – especially in the densely built-up sections around Fritz-Reuter-Allee, Hüsung and Gutschmidtstraße, where narrow, historically evolved street layouts offer hardly any space for a removal van. In the village core of Alt-Britz around the village church, too, finding a free parking space on moving day is often a matter of luck. So that your move is not held up by a lack of stopping space, we handle the application for a no-stopping zone right outside your front door.

We support you with the application to the Neukölln road traffic authority, put up the signs in good time and make sure there is enough space for the lorry, ramp and carrying routes on moving day. This is particularly important along busy roads such as Britzer Damm or Buschkrugallee, where without a reserved area valuable time is lost searching for parking and carrying items repeatedly over long distances. Even in the quieter residential streets of the Horseshoe Estate, where residents' parking and narrow pavements meet, a no-stopping zone set up in advance has proven itself in practice.

If you live in a newer building with an underground car park, things are usually somewhat easier, as direct access and larger manoeuvring areas are available. Nevertheless, we recommend a brief coordination in advance here too, so that property management, neighbours and delivery times are aligned. Contact us early – ideally five to six weeks before the moving date, as the authority states a processing time of around four weeks – so that we can apply for the no-stopping zone in good time and plan a smooth process, without any arguments with other road users.

Moving costs in Britz: transparent fixed prices

The moving costs in Britz depend on several factors: the size of the flat, the floor, the distance to the destination and the accessibility of the building. A move from a small ground-floor flat on Parchimer Allee differs markedly in price from a move out of a fourth-floor maisonette without a lift in a period building on Backbergstraße. The amount of furniture, any special services such as piano transport or a necessary clearance of cellar and loft are also included in the calculation.

We always calculate with a binding fixed price, which you receive after a free survey or virtual assessment. This way you know exactly what costs to expect before moving day – we have no hidden surcharges for floors, no-stopping zones or additional boxes. Especially in Britz, where types of housing range from the listed Horseshoe Estate and detached houses to modern apartment blocks on Britzer Damm, an individual calculation is more worthwhile than any flat-rate online calculator.

If you are also planning a company relocation or only need to move a few pieces of furniture, we also check whether affordable part-load transport is an option for your move. This option is particularly suitable for students and young professionals who move more often between Neukölln and other Berlin districts. Simply request a no-obligation quote – we will draw up a transparent, comprehensible cost breakdown for your move in Britz, with no small print.

Period buildings, the Horseshoe Estate & furniture lifts in Britz

Britz is characterised by an exceptional architectural diversity that requires special preparation for moves. Bruno Taut's world-famous Horseshoe Estate along Fritz-Reuter-Allee and Hüsung is one of the most important housing estates of the 1920s and is entirely listed. The flats here often have narrow stairwells, wooden windows and in some cases no lifts – factors we take into account carefully in our planning, for example by using a furniture lift for bulky items such as wardrobes, sofas or pianos.

In the historic village core of Alt-Britz around Britz Palace and the village church, too, there are numerous period buildings with narrow hallways, steep stairs and limited headroom in the stairwell. Here the classic furniture lift is often the only practical way to get belongings upstairs gently and without damage to stairwell walls or historic building fabric. During the survey our team checks whether a furniture lift is needed and organises it in good time, together with any necessary permit for setting it up.

In contrast are the newer apartment blocks on Britzer Damm, which usually have lifts, wider doors and in some cases underground car parks – here a move generally goes much more quickly. For dismantling and assembling furniture in both types of building we also offer our furniture assembly service, so that shelves, beds and kitchens are properly reassembled at the new home. Especially for sensitive moves, for example a senior move from an adapted flat in the Horseshoe Estate, we place particular emphasis on calm, care and clear communication with everyone involved.

Popular moving routes from Britz

Many of our customers move within Neukölln or to adjacent neighbourhoods. We particularly often handle moves from Britz to Buckow, as the two neighbourhoods are closely linked by the Britzer Garten and Buckower Damm and offer similar residential areas with detached and semi-detached houses. Moves towards Rudow are also in demand, for example for families who want to move from more densely built-up Britz to the quieter, greener areas near the city boundary with Brandenburg.

Gropiusstadt, with its striking rows of tower blocks, is also a frequent destination, especially for tenants switching from a period flat in Alt-Britz to a modern flat with a lift. Gropiusstadt and Rudow are directly connected to Britz by the U7, and Buckow via Buckower Damm, which makes it much easier for our team to coordinate moving dates and estimate journey times.

We also regularly handle moves towards the city centre, for example to Kreuzberg or Mitte, and to the area surrounding Berlin. For customers leaving Berlin altogether, for example for Potsdam, Leipzig or further afield, we offer reliable long-distance moves, applying the same careful packing and the same fixed-price approach as for local moves in Britz. Whether your new home is just a few U-Bahn stops away or in another federal state – we plan the route, vehicle size and staffing to suit the distance and the volume of your belongings, so that longer routes are also completed on schedule and without incident.

Booking a move in Britz: how we work together

We deliberately keep booking your move in Britz straightforward. In the first step we record the key details: the address you are moving out of, for example on Fritz-Reuter-Allee or Britzer Damm, the destination address, your preferred date and the approximate size of the flat. On this basis we make an initial assessment and, if needed, arrange a free on-site survey, during which we directly assess floors, accessibility, the lift situation and possible parking problems.

You then receive a binding fixed-price quote that includes all agreed services – from the transport itself and packing materials to additional services such as part-load transport, piano transport or organising a no-stopping zone. As soon as you confirm the quote, we firmly reserve the vehicle and staff for your preferred date and take care of all necessary permits in good time, for example for sections of street around the Horseshoe Estate or the village core of Alt-Britz.

On moving day itself our team handles the complete logistics: professional packing, transport, the use of a furniture lift if required and furniture assembly at the destination. On request we also take care of the subsequent clearance of the old flat, so that you can complete the handover without stress. For business customers we also coordinate time slots outside business hours to disrupt ongoing operations as little as possible. Contact us by phone or via our online form – we will get back to you promptly with a suitable proposal for your move in Britz.

Insider tip for your moving day in Britz

After the move, a walk through the Britzer Garten is well worth it: the site of the 1985 Federal Garden Show offers wide meadows, a lake and many themed gardens – a good balance after a tiring day among boxes. The Gutspark Britz around Britz Palace, with the manor farm and the Museum Neukölln, also invites you for a quiet stroll once the kitchen is in place.

For your first shopping trip, Buschkrugallee with its shops is handy. If you prefer things quieter, you will find the village-like part of Britz around Backbergstraße and the old village church, which forms a clear contrast to the traffic on Britzer Damm.

A tip for new neighbours in the Horseshoe Estate: the green inner courtyard with its small pond is the heart of the estate. A walk around on foot quickly shows how the terraced houses, the gardens and the block on Fritz-Reuter-Allee belong together – and why façades, doors and windows there are specially protected.

If you still need support after the move, for example for further transports or a later part-load transport for forgotten pieces of furniture, just get in touch. We plan such small trips from Moabit too. And if you want to get rid of bulky waste before moving in: according to the BSR, recycling centres accept normal household quantities of up to three cubic metres free of charge.

Applying for a no-stopping zone in Britz: Neukölln road traffic authority

The road traffic authority of the Neukölln district is responsible for a no-stopping zone on moving day in Britz. The state portal service.berlin.de sets out the following process for Berlin:

  • The application is informal; there are no special requirements.
  • It goes to the authority of the district in which the no-stopping zone is to be set up. For the old and new flat, separate applications are required.
  • The fee is at least €21, depending on scope and duration.
  • The site states an average processing time of about four weeks.
  • The authority issues an order, but no traffic signs. The signs are put up by a commissioned company, for example one specialising in road works safety.

For Neukölln, the site gives the telephone number (030) 90239-2181 and the address [email protected]. In the application, state the street, house number, date and the length of zone required, so that the order fits your removal van exactly. If you don't know a company for the signs, service.berlin.de recommends searching business directories under the keyword Baustellenabsicherung (road works safety).

Because four weeks of processing time is realistic, you should apply early, as soon as the moving date is fixed. Read more about the process on our no-stopping zone page. For routes within the area, it is also worth looking at our pages on Buckow and the Neukölln district.

Horseshoe Estate, Britz Palace and registering after your move

Britz is defined above all by the Horseshoe Estate. It was built from 1925 to 1930 and is one of the Berlin Modernism Housing Estates that have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2008. According to the German Commission for UNESCO, a four-storey residential block encloses a green inner courtyard with trees and a small pond in the shape of a horseshoe. Terraced houses with front gardens line the narrow streets all around. For your move this means: clarify in advance how close the van can get to the front door, and allow for carrying distances.

As a landmark in the neighbourhood, the Neukölln district office names Britz Palace, Alt-Britz 73, whose façade was remodelled in the Neo-Renaissance style around 1880.

After moving in, Berlin has a registration requirement within 14 days. According to service.berlin.de, registration is free of charge. Tenants need the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung); the tenancy agreement does not replace it. Registration is possible online with BundID and the online ID function.

For bulky waste before the move, Berlin's city cleaning service (BSR) names two options: collection from your home, which you book online, or dropping it off yourself. According to the BSR, drop-off at a recycling centre is free of charge for up to three cubic metres. The Service Center answers questions on 030 7592-4900. You will find further neighbourhoods in the district on the page for Gropiusstadt.

Always one step ahead.
