Key answers for your move in Berlin Fennpfuhl
Many addresses in Fennpfuhl are in blocks of flats with inner courtyards, for example on Paul-Junius-Straße or Bernhard-Bästlein-Straße, where larger removal vans can often only get as far as the street. We check in advance whether a short carrying distance is enough or whether a no-parking zone makes sense.
Fennpfuhl at a glance: large housing estate, Fennpfuhlpark and tram
Praktik Transport und Umzüge, under the Beste Umzug brand, comes from Moabit and handles moves in the Berlin neighbourhood of Fennpfuhl. The neighbourhood around the Fennpfuhlpark with its ponds, after which it is named, is characterised by residential high-rises from the GDR era, green corridors and tram connections such as the M5 and M6; Fennpfuhl has no U-Bahn station. Anyone moving here from Anton-Saefkow-Platz to Paul-Junius-Straße or further towards Landsberger Allee knows the typical challenges: narrow approach routes, many storeys and limited parking around Anton-Saefkow-Platz.
That is why we clarify what matters before every move – from booking a furniture lift if the lift is out of order to setting up a no-parking zone in good time. Whether you are planning a classic home removal within Fennpfuhl or, as a company on Landsberger Allee, need to organise a company relocation: our team plans the process in advance, reviews the access situation and ensures a smooth moving day.
We also plan moves to other Lichtenberg neighbourhoods such as Friedrichsfelde or Karlshorst – Fennpfuhl itself borders on Lichtenberg, Alt-Hohenschönhausen, and Prenzlauer Berg and Weißensee in the Pankow district. Whether a small move into a two-room flat in a prefab block on Storkower Straße or a complex move with lots of furniture – we flexibly adapt our services to your situation in Fennpfuhl and ensure a transparent, easily calculable process without nasty surprises on moving day.
Moving in Fennpfuhl: process and particular features of the neighbourhood
A move in Fennpfuhl differs clearly in some respects from a move in classic period-building areas. The neighbourhood is characterised by the large-scale new development of the 1970s along Paul-Junius-Straße, Franz-Jacob-Straße and Weißenseer Weg. Many blocks of flats have eleven or more storeys, usually with a lift – but it is often small, so large pieces of furniture such as wardrobes or sofas cannot easily be transported. Here it is worth agreeing in advance whether an external furniture lift is needed, to protect the stairwell and lift and save time.
Around Anton-Saefkow-Platz and its shopping centre, expect considerably more traffic and scarce parking during the day, as on busy Landsberger Allee. In the quieter side streets such as Bernhard-Bästlein-Straße or around Fennpfuhlpark, on the other hand, stopping for loading and unloading is usually easier, provided you choose the time windows wisely. Towards Weißensee and Prenzlauer Berg there are also a few older buildings with narrower stairwells, where careful furniture dismantling becomes particularly important.
For a smooth process we recommend a short on-site assessment for every move in Fennpfuhl: how wide is the street, is there a courtyard with a passage, what is the lift situation, and is a no-parking zone needed? As with moves in other large Lichtenberg housing estates, such as in Neu-Hohenschönhausen, we can usually clarify these questions by phone or by comparing photos and thus time the process on moving day optimally.
Our services for your move in Fennpfuhl
For residents and businesses in Fennpfuhl we offer a comprehensive range of services that goes beyond classic transport. The home removal is the most frequent request – from a one-room flat in a high-rise on Paul-Junius-Straße to a family flat near Fennpfuhlpark. For companies along Landsberger Allee or around Roederplatz we also organise company relocations, in which office furniture, IT equipment and files are moved on schedule and with as little business interruption as possible.
If only a single larger piece of furniture is being transported, such as a sofa or wardrobe from a flat on Storkower Straße, a part load is often worthwhile instead of a full removal van – it saves costs and resources. When moving out of Fennpfuhl flats, there is also often more to deal with than is visible at first glance: old fittings, cellar compartments or attics. Here we help with a professional house clearance that also disposes of bulky or awkward items properly.
If you own an upright or grand piano, even on the eleventh floor of a block of flats, our trained movers handle piano transport with the appropriate equipment and securing. After the move we also offer furniture assembly so that shelves, wardrobes and beds are ready to use straight away. For older residents who have lived in Fennpfuhl for a long time and are switching to a low-barrier flat, we also offer a sensitive senior move that adapts pace and process to individual needs.
No-parking zone and parking when moving in Fennpfuhl
Parking is a central issue in Fennpfuhl, especially in the densely built sections around Anton-Saefkow-Platz, Landsberger Allee and Weißenseer Weg. Many vehicles are parked here during the day, visitor parking spaces are rare, and stopping spontaneously right outside the front door is seldom possible. So that the removal van can stand right outside the entrance on moving day, we set up a no-parking zone for you in good time.
We take care of the complete application to the responsible authority, put up the mobile no-parking signs on time and document the signage with photos. This is particularly important on narrow stretches of road such as Paul-Junius-Straße or in courtyard passages of older buildings, where a blocked area would delay the entire process. At busy junctions towards Storkower Straße, too, where residents and short-term parkers compete for every free metre, a zone set up in good time makes for a much more relaxed moving day.
Another advantage: the reserved space shortens carrying distances considerably, which saves time and energy, especially with bulky furniture from the upper floors of Fennpfuhl's blocks of flats. We recommend registering the no-parking zone as early as possible, especially for moves at the end of the month, when experience shows that many moves take place in Fennpfuhl at the same time. This also prevents extra effort on moving day caused by re-parking or longer distances between vehicle and flat. Combined with a prior check of the parking situation, we plan the zone so that both the loading and unloading points remain easily accessible – a detail that noticeably speeds up many moves in densely populated Lichtenberg neighbourhoods.
Moving costs in Fennpfuhl: transparent fixed prices
The costs of a move in Fennpfuhl depend on several factors: the size of the flat, the floor, whether a lift is available, the volume of household goods and any additional services required, such as furniture assembly or house clearance. A move from a compact flat in a high-rise on Franz-Jacob-Straße can usually be calculated more cheaply than an extensive family move with a piano and several rooms near Fennpfuhlpark.
So that you can plan from the outset, we work with clear fixed prices instead of vague hourly estimates. After a short assessment – ideally with photos or a free on-site survey – you receive a binding quote that takes into account all services such as transport, loading and unloading and, where applicable, the no-parking zone. You will find detailed information on price ranges, sample calculations and influencing factors on our page about moving costs in Berlin.
Especially for moves within Fennpfuhl, for example from Storkower Straße to Anton-Saefkow-Platz, costs can often be saved thanks to short driving distances, while a move to more distant neighbourhoods such as Wartenberg or Falkenberg allows for somewhat more driving time. The time of day also plays a role: if you schedule the move outside peak hours on Landsberger Allee, you benefit from a quicker process. We advise you honestly on which additional services make sense for your specific situation and deliberately avoid hidden surcharges – the agreed fixed price applies even if minor details change on moving day.
Period buildings, new builds and prefab blocks: furniture lifts and upper-floor moves in Fennpfuhl
In terms of urban planning, Fennpfuhl is a special case in Berlin: most of the neighbourhood was built as a GDR new-build area with typical prefab blocks, many of them eleven storeys high, along Paul-Junius-Straße, Franz-Jacob-Straße and around Fennpfuhlpark. These buildings almost always have a lift, but it is usually relatively small and cannot take every piece of furniture in one piece. For bulky wardrobes, large sofas or beds, dismantling on site therefore often makes sense, which we offer directly as part of furniture assembly.
On the edges of Fennpfuhl, for example towards Weißensee or at the border with Prenzlauer Berg, there are also a few older buildings from the time before the large-scale new development, some without a lift and with narrower stairwells. In such cases we check in advance whether a furniture lift makes more sense than classic transport via the stairwell – this protects both the building fabric and our movers' backs and noticeably speeds up the entire move.
In newer residential buildings renovated or newly built in recent years around Storkower Straße, too, attention must be paid to details such as vinyl floors, delicate banisters or narrow lift cabins. Our movers bring suitable protective material and secure corners, door frames and lift walls before the actual carrying begins. This way we plan a gentle and quick process, regardless of whether it is a prefab flat, a renovated apartment building or one of the few period flats in Fennpfuhl – without scratches in the stairwell and without unnecessary waiting at the lift.
Popular moving routes from Fennpfuhl
From Fennpfuhl we see recurring moving destinations that result from the neighbourhood's location in the Lichtenberg district. Many moves lead within the district towards Friedrichsfelde, for example when families want to move closer to the Tierpark zoo or to quieter residential areas. Moves to Karlshorst are also common, especially when people want more greenery and larger flats with gardens.
Other popular destinations lie in the north of the district: Neu-Hohenschönhausen and Malchow are chosen, for example, when larger flats or more peace and quiet away from Fennpfuhl's denser development are sought. The more rural neighbourhoods of Wartenberg and Falkenberg are also popular with families who want to move from the dense development on Landsberger Allee to quieter outskirts. Thanks to the tram lines and the nearby Landsberger Allee and Storkower Straße Ringbahn stations, moves to Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain or Weißensee are not unusual either.
For moves that go beyond Berlin, for example when a Fennpfuhl household moves to another city for work, we also offer reliable long-distance moves. We plan the route including stopovers, customs or toll questions for international destinations, as well as the loading, so that longer distances are also covered safely and without damage. Whether a short distance within Lichtenberg or a drive of several hours to another federal state – we adapt vehicle size, team size and schedule to the respective route from Fennpfuhl.
Booking your move in Fennpfuhl: process and an insider tip for the neighbourhood
Booking your move in Fennpfuhl with us is straightforward and personal. In the first step, we take down your key details by phone or via the contact form: moving-out and destination address, size of the flat, floor and special items such as a piano or aquarium. This is followed either by a free on-site survey, for example in a flat on Anton-Saefkow-Platz, or an assessment based on photos and a short video walk-through. On this basis we prepare a transparent fixed-price quote covering all the services you want, from home removal and house clearance to the no-parking zone.
Once you agree, we take care of scheduling, applying for the necessary permits and putting together the right team and vehicle. On moving day itself we handle dismantling, transport, carrying and, on request, assembly in the new flat, so that you can take care of other things.
A little insider tip for everyone new to Fennpfuhl or wanting to get to know the neighbourhood better: Fennpfuhlpark, with its Fennpfuhl and Langpfuhl ponds, is not only a popular place for a walk after a tiring moving day, but is also home to numerous water birds and quiet places to sit away from the bustle of Landsberger Allee. Around Anton-Saefkow-Platz there are also small shops and cafés for your first breather in the new neighbourhood. If you prefer things a little quieter, you will find shady spots in the side streets towards Weißensee – a nice way to round off the day once the boxes are unpacked and the furniture is in place.
No-parking zone for moves in Fennpfuhl: applying at the Lichtenberg district office
So that the removal van can stop in Fennpfuhl on moving day, you should apply for a temporary no-parking zone. According to Service Berlin, the district road traffic authority issues an order, but no traffic signs. Anyone without signs is best advised to contact a company that secures construction sites, which is usually permitted to put up traffic signs.
- Responsible body: the road traffic authority (Straßenverkehrsbehörde) of the district in which the no-parking zone is to apply. In Lichtenberg this is the Roads and Green Spaces Office (Straßen- und Grünflächenamt), Alt-Friedrichsfelde 60, 10315 Berlin, telephone (030) 90296-6561.
- Application: informal; Service Berlin does not mention any special requirements.
- Fee: minimum fee 21.00 euros, depending on scope and duration.
- Processing time: about 4 weeks on average. So submit the application early.
The application states the street, house number, date, time and the required length. In some districts the road traffic authority is part of the public order office (Ordnungsamt), in others the Roads and Green Spaces Office; for Lichtenberg, Service Berlin names the latter. We schedule the decision together with the signage in good time before the loading date so that the removal van can stop safely outside the building.
If you wish, we apply for the order for both addresses and coordinate the signage with your loading date. More on this under no-parking zone. For the neighbouring areas in the district, see our pages on Friedrichsfelde and the Lichtenberg district.
Fennpfuhl as a large housing estate: registration, bulky waste and getting around the neighbourhood
The Lichtenberg district office describes Fennpfuhl as a large housing estate with which the GDR's housing construction programme in Berlin began in 1972. A green corridor with Fennpfuhlpark runs through the residential area. As infrastructure, the district names Anton-Saefkow-Platz, the Storkower Bogen and the Castello-Center on Landsberger Allee; according to the district office, the neighbourhood is very well connected to the inner-city districts by public transport. The Margarete Steffin adult education centre and the Shostakovich music school are only a few minutes' walk away. For moving days this means: during the survey we check the access, carrying route and lift for each building and plan the time windows accordingly.
After moving in:
- Registration: anyone moving into a flat in Berlin must register within 14 days. This can be done online with a BundID account and eID or in person at the citizens' office (Bürgeramt). For rented flats, you upload the landlord's confirmation of moving in.
- Bulky waste: the BSR accepts up to three cubic metres of bulky waste as well as electrical appliances free of charge at its recycling centres. Collection from home can be booked via the BSR; you can reach the Service Center on 030 7592-4900.
