A 1980s housing estate: how we plan moves in Neu-Hohenschönhausen

move without stress

Unsere Firma Moving help for residential blocks and tower blocks between Prerower Platz, Zingster Straße and Falkenberger Chaussee.
Neu-Hohenschönhausen was built in the 1980s as a large housing estate and has been a neighbourhood in its own right since 2001. The buildings usually have six or eleven storeys. For a household move, office move or furniture transport, what matters most is therefore the lift, the floor and the route from the van to the entrance.
Planning is done from Moabit (Stromstraße 21), but only after a look at your flat – on site or by video. After that it is clear whether a packing service, furniture lift, small-load transport or part load is right and whether a parking restriction zone is needed on Zingster Straße or Falkenberger Chaussee.

Questions about moving in Neu-Hohenschönhausen: lifts, parking, costs

Key answers for your move in Berlin Neu-Hohenschönhausen

Answers on moving, parking bans and costs in Neu-Hohenschönhausen – from the lift in a residential block and bulky waste to registering after moving in.

From Moabit, our route to Neu-Hohenschönhausen usually runs via Landsberger Allee or Falkenberger Chaussee. We check the route to your address in advance so that we can plan times realistically and avoid delays on moving day.

Neu-Hohenschönhausen at a glance: Ostseeviertel, Prerower Platz and S75

Praktik Transport und Umzüge – known under the brand Beste Umzug – comes from Moabit and handles moves in the Neu-Hohenschönhausen neighbourhood after surveying each address. The neighbourhood in the Lichtenberg district is characterised by the so-called Ostseeviertel (Baltic quarter), whose streets are named after places on the Baltic coast – such as Zingster Straße, Ribnitzer Straße or Ahrenshooper Straße. Daily life for many residents centres on the central Prerower Platz with its shopping centre, while the large residential complexes along Falkenberger Chaussee and around the S-Bahn define the townscape.

A move in Neu-Hohenschönhausen differs considerably from a move in a densely built period neighbourhood: instead of cramped back courtyards, our teams find wide access roads, generous parking areas between the residential blocks and multi-storey prefab buildings with sometimes narrow stairwells. Transport links are mainly provided by tram lines M4, M5 and M17 and several bus routes. With Hohenschönhausen in the centre and Wartenberg, two S75 S-Bahn stations lie within the neighbourhood.

For our customers this means: predictable parking situations and a team that clarifies the typical questions of the prefab estates – lift, floor, route to the entrance – in advance. Whether a household move to a new flat in the Ostseeviertel or a business relocation from an office in the neighbourhood – we plan every move individually, transparently and with an eye on local conditions. The prior survey allows us to estimate travel times realistically, position parking restriction zones sensibly and structure the whole process so that your moving day is stress-free.

Moving services for Neu-Hohenschönhausen: from part loads to piano transport

As a Berlin moving company, we offer a wide range of services in Neu-Hohenschönhausen, tailored to the needs of residents between the Ostseeviertel and Falkenberger Chaussee. For smaller moves, or when only single pieces of furniture need to be transported, a part load is often worthwhile: your goods are transported together with other jobs, which saves money especially when moving away from the area. Anyone who wants to declutter before the move or has to get a flat ready for handover after moving out benefits from our professional clearance – a service that often makes sense in the large residential complexes along Zingster Straße and Wustrower Straße.

An upright or grand piano is one of the most demanding items to move. Our piano transport takes into account both the narrow stairwells of some prefab blocks and the need for special transport straps and lifting aids. After transport we also take care of furniture assembly on request, so that wall units, shelves and kitchen furniture are professionally reassembled in the new flat – a service that is often used with the fitted kitchens and GDR-era wall units common in Neu-Hohenschönhausen.

Especially for older residents, who have often lived in the Ostseeviertel since the estate was built, we offer a sensitive senior move: with more time, personal support and help with dealing with the authorities or re-registering. Our teams plan for narrow hallways, missing lifts in older prefab blocks and the sensitive handling of keepsakes. Whether an individual, a family or a business – we put together the right combination of transport, assembly and additional services for every move in Neu-Hohenschönhausen and make sure nothing is forgotten.

Parking restriction zone and parking when moving in Neu-Hohenschönhausen

Parking in Neu-Hohenschönhausen is generally more relaxed than in densely built inner-city neighbourhoods, but there are still a few things to bear in mind when moving. Around the large residential complexes on Zingster Straße, Ribnitzer Straße or Ahrenshooper Straße there are numerous parking spaces, but they are often occupied during the day, and the access routes to the individual building entrances are not always designed for removal vans. So that our team can stop directly outside your front door on moving day and work without long carrying distances, we set up a parking restriction zone on request.

We take care of the entire application to the responsible authority, put up the signs in good time before the moving date and document the set-up with photos. This is particularly useful if the move takes place on busy roads such as Falkenberger Chaussee, where stopping space is limited, or if large pieces of furniture and a furniture lift are involved. Even for moves in the quieter residential streets of the Ostseeviertel, a reserved loading zone is worthwhile to avoid driving around looking for parking and waiting times.

  • Timely application for the parking restriction zone, according to service.berlin.de around 4 weeks before the moving date
  • Signs directly outside your building entrance, e.g. on Zingster or Ribnitzer Straße
  • Clear loading and parking space for the removal van and furniture lift
  • Fewer conflicts with parked residents' cars in the Ostseeviertel

If there is enough parking in your residential area anyway, we check together with you in advance whether an official parking restriction zone is necessary or whether an arrangement with the property management is enough. This saves you unnecessary costs while ensuring that moving day runs smoothly.

Moving costs in Neu-Hohenschönhausen: transparent fixed prices

The moving costs for a move in Neu-Hohenschönhausen depend on several factors: the size of the flat, the floor, whether there is a lift, the distance to the new home and the scope of services required. As large parts of the neighbourhood consist of multi-storey prefab buildings from the 1980s, the question of a working lift plays a central role in the calculation – especially for flats on the fifth floor or higher without a lift, using a furniture lift is often the more efficient and cheaper solution than carrying everything down the stairs.

On our overview page on moving costs in Berlin we explain in detail how prices for household and business moves are made up and which items are usually charged. For Neu-Hohenschönhausen the following applies: the comparatively wide access roads and good parking options in the residential areas often have a positive effect on the price, as our team can plan loading times predictably. Additional costs may arise, however, if a parking restriction zone has to be set up, a piano needs to be moved or clearance of the old flat is required.

We always work with transparent fixed-price quotes: after a free survey – on site or digitally by video – you receive a binding quote with no hidden extra costs. We take all relevant details into account, from the number of boxes and the need for furniture assembly to any part loads for single pieces of furniture. This way you know exactly what costs to expect before moving day and can plan your move in Neu-Hohenschönhausen with financial certainty.

Prefab blocks and furniture lifts: moving in Neu-Hohenschönhausen's residential areas

Neu-Hohenschönhausen was built in the 1980s as one of the last large new housing estates of the GDR and consists mainly of industrially prefabricated buildings, usually with six or eleven storeys. Unlike Gründerzeit period neighbourhoods, there are hardly any narrow stairwells with high period ceilings here, but instead long corridors, narrow lifts and some buildings where the lift was retrofitted later or not at all. For our moving teams this means: a precise check of each building is crucial to plan the move efficiently.

For flats on higher floors without a working lift, we rely on a professional furniture lift that moves bulky items such as wardrobes, sofas or washing machines safely and quickly up or down the façade – a considerable relief compared with carrying items down the stairs and a noticeable saving in time and money. In renovated buildings, for example in parts of the residential complexes around Prerower Platz, there are modern, larger lifts, so a classic transport in the indoor lift is usually sufficient.

Furniture assembly also plays a special role in prefab moves: many flats are fitted with built-in cupboards, wall units or custom-made kitchens that have to be professionally dismantled and reassembled in the new flat. Our move with assembly service covers exactly this need. Because many residents of Neu-Hohenschönhausen move within the neighbourhood or nearby, for example to Falkenberg or Wartenberg, we check both ends of the move during the survey.

Popular moving routes from Neu-Hohenschönhausen

Many of the moves we handle from Neu-Hohenschönhausen lead to neighbouring parts of Lichtenberg or adjacent districts. Moves towards Malchow and Wartenberg are particularly common; thanks to the proximity of Wartenberg S-Bahn station and their similar, rather rural character, they are often chosen as an obvious next step. Moves to Falkenberg, where new areas of detached and terraced houses have developed in recent years, are also in demand – a popular destination for families who want to swap a prefab flat for a home of their own.

Within Lichtenberg, moves towards Friedrichsfelde and Karlshorst are also not unusual, for example when residents want to live closer to the Tierpark and the U5 or to the Karlshorst trotting track. Waterside Rummelsburg, with its modern new builds on Lake Rummelsburg, is also a frequent destination for Neu-Hohenschönhausen residents planning a change of neighbourhood within the district.

Landsberger Allee and Storkower Straße also provide well-developed connections towards Prenzlauer Berg, Weißensee and central Berlin, so moves to more central locations can be carried out without difficulty. For moves beyond Berlin – for example back to your home region or to a new city to start a job – we offer reliable long-distance moves, in which we transport your belongings safely, with liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and on schedule to any destination in Germany or Europe. Whatever route your move takes, we plan the roads around Neu-Hohenschönhausen in advance and calculate the time realistically.

Booking a move in Neu-Hohenschönhausen: how it works

The process of moving with Beste Umzug in Neu-Hohenschönhausen is deliberately kept simple and transparent. In the first step, you contact us via our contact form, by phone or email and tell us the key details of your move: size of the flat, current address – for example on Zingster Straße, Wustrower Straße or one of the many side streets in the Ostseeviertel – and your preferred date. We then arrange a free survey, either in person on site or conveniently by video call, to get a precise picture of the floor, the lift situation and the volume of goods.

On this basis we draw up a binding fixed-price quote that takes into account all the services you want – from a simple household move and a part load to complete clearance of the old flat. As soon as you have confirmed the quote, we firmly reserve the desired date in our schedule and, if needed, take care of setting up a parking restriction zone in your street early on.

On moving day itself, our well-practised team handles the entire transport, secures furniture and boxes professionally and, on request, also assembles the furniture in the new flat. Short-notice moves or special requirements such as piano transport can usually be integrated into our schedule well, provided the timing allows. After the move is completed, we are also happy to help with any questions, for example about disposing of moving boxes or outstanding formalities when re-registering.

Insider tip: discovering Neu-Hohenschönhausen beyond the prefab blocks

People moving to Neu-Hohenschönhausen often initially associate the neighbourhood only with its striking prefab blocks – yet it also has greener and quieter sides to offer. A real insider tip are the meadows and fields in the neighbouring areas of Wartenberg and Falkenberg, whose farm tracks invite you for a walk right after the move. Once you have moved into your new flat in the Ostseeviertel, you will quickly find a quiet counterbalance to the hustle and bustle of moving day here.

Prerower Platz is also worth a second look: besides the shopping centre for everyday needs, there are smaller cafés and service providers that quickly become regular haunts in everyday life. For families with children, the many playgrounds between the residential blocks on Ahrenshooper and Ribnitzer Straße are also worth a visit – many of them have been modernised in recent years and, with plenty of green space, invite you to linger.

Another plus for new residents: the proximity to Malchow and Wartenberg makes short trips into the countryside possible, for example to the Malchower See, without having to travel far. Anyone moving to Neu-Hohenschönhausen from a period neighbourhood such as Prenzlauer Berg or Friedrichshain will also appreciate the noticeably calmer traffic and the more generous green spaces between the residential complexes. During the survey, our team will be happy to give you a few more small insider tips about your new neighbourhood so that you can find your way around Neu-Hohenschönhausen from day one.

Parking ban for your move in Neu-Hohenschönhausen: applying to the Lichtenberg district

For moving day, you need temporary no-stopping zones outside the old and the new flat. According to the page “Haltverbot für Umzüge” (parking bans for moves) on service.berlin.de, the district's road traffic authority issues an order but no signs; these are put up by a company authorised to erect traffic signs. An informal application is required; according to the page, there are no special prerequisites.

Neu-Hohenschönhausen falls under the Lichtenberg district office (Bezirksamt Lichtenberg). On service.berlin.de, the Roads and Green Spaces Office (Straßen- und Grünflächenamt) is listed at Alt-Friedrichsfelde 60, 10315 Berlin, phone (030) 90296-6561 and [email protected]. According to the page, the minimum fee is €21.00, depending on scope and duration; the page gives a processing time of approx. 4 weeks. So submit the application early, as soon as the moving date is fixed.

In a large housing estate with many households in particular, it pays to talk things through before the date: we look with you at how far it is from the building to the vehicle and whether a no-stopping zone in front of the entrance will be needed. Ask us about registration too: after moving in, you have 14 days in Berlin to register your address. You will find more about the service under parking restriction zone; we introduce the district under Lichtenberg.

Living in Neu-Hohenschönhausen: large estate, routes and bulky waste before the move

According to the Lichtenberg district office, Neu-Hohenschönhausen is a large prefab housing estate that celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2014/15. More than 29,500 people live north of the S-Bahn and more than 27,200 south of it. The S-Bahn separates north and south; Hohenschönhausen S-Bahn station is close to the northern part. The district expects further growth in the coming years from new housing on Falkenberger Chaussee.

For your move this means: in densely occupied buildings, the stairwell, lift and carrying routes are decisive for the calculation. According to the district office, the centre has no continuous shopping street but several locations with clusters of shops as well as shopping centres such as the Linden-Center; green spaces such as the Wartenberger Feldmark in the north and Wustrower Park in the south are close to the residential complexes.

If you declutter before the move, you can book a bulky waste collection with the BSR. According to the BSR, orders from private individuals of up to 15 cubic metres are possible; collection requires a stopping space for the vehicle of at least 12 metres, the distance from the vehicle to the loading point may be no more than 100 metres, and from the 7th floor upwards a working lift is required. If needed, we also carry out clearances ourselves, see clearance. We introduce the neighbouring area under Alt-Hohenschönhausen.

Always one step ahead.
