Key answers for your move in Berlin Frohnau
We check access routes, plot width and possible turning space in advance so that the removal van can be positioned directly at the house or very close to it. Where driveways are narrow, we plan extra time for carrying the last few metres.
Moving in Frohnau: country house, villa and flat on Zeltinger Platz
As the northernmost neighbourhood of Berlin-Reinickendorf, Frohnau has a character all its own: the garden city, inaugurated in 1910, whose green spaces were planned by the landscape architect Ludwig Lesser, still impresses today with spacious villa plots, curving streets and plenty of greenery around the Frohnau Forest (Frohnauer Forst) and the Hubertussee. If you are planning a move here, you should have the particular features of the address clarified in advance – from Zeltinger Platz with the 30-metre-high Casino Tower to the quiet residential streets around Ludolfingerplatz.
Praktik Transport und Umzüge handles moves in Frohnau under the Beste Umzug brand from our base at Stromstraße 21 in Moabit and checks in advance the routes between Frohnau station, Sigismundkorso and Edelhofdamm, as well as access to larger properties in the villa quarter. Whether a private move from a classic country house, a business move for a small office or a senior move into a step-free flat – we plan every move in Frohnau individually and with an eye on local conditions.
Frohnau is directly connected to central Berlin via S-Bahn line S1 at Frohnau station, while the neighbourhood also lies close to the city boundary with Glienicke/Nordbahn in Brandenburg. This mix of edge-of-city location and good connections via the A111 makes Frohnau attractive for families and commuters alike – and means that our moves here range from short distances within the garden city to long-distance moves across the country. We check the entrances and exits of the residential streets, note where tight bends or cobblestones can make transport more difficult, and set up our vehicle and team plan accordingly.
Moving in Frohnau: process and typical features of the garden city
A move in Frohnau is noticeably different from a move in densely built-up inner-city districts. Instead of five-storey period buildings with back courtyards, detached villas, country houses and family homes on often spacious plots dominate here. Streets such as Sigismundkorso, Zeltinger Straße or Edelhofdamm are wider than in many other neighbourhoods, but long private driveways, hedges, garden gates and sometimes unpaved paths call for a well-thought-out approach to loading and unloading.
Many houses in the Frohnau garden city are protected as part of a listed ensemble, which requires extra care during renovation work around the move – for example when protecting historic door frames, floorboards or wrought-iron railings. Our teams therefore always work with edge protectors, blankets and non-slip mats so that neither the furniture nor the building fabric is damaged. For private moves in Frohnau, the gardening season also plays a role: if you move in summer, you should allow for delivery times for garden furniture or greenhouses, which are often transported separately.
Another difference from densely built-up neighbourhoods: in Frohnau there is usually little through traffic in the residential streets, and many streets end in quiet cul-de-sacs near the Frohnau Forest. This makes manoeuvring the removal van easier, but because of the sometimes long distances between the street and the front door, it requires realistic time planning. For larger properties with a cellar, attic floor and outbuildings, a prior survey is also advisable so that we can calculate vehicle size, team size and any additional equipment needed, such as a furniture lift, precisely. This way moving day in Frohnau runs in a structured way and without nasty surprises.
Our moving services for Frohnau
Around Zeltinger Platz, Ludolfingerplatz and the adjoining villa streets, we offer the full range of moving services, tailored to the needs of Frohnau households and businesses. These include:
- Private move – from a compact flat to a multi-storey villa with garden
- Business move – for practices, offices and small businesses in northern Reinickendorf
- Senior move – gentle support when moving into age-appropriate accommodation, including dismantling and assembly
- Part-load transport – affordable transport of smaller loads as groupage
- Clearance – for cellars, lofts and garages on the often spacious Frohnau plots
- Piano transport – for grand and upright pianos, which are no rarity in the living rooms of the villas
- Furniture assembly – proper dismantling and assembly of fitted kitchens, wardrobes and shelving systems
- No-parking zone – application and setting up for smooth loading
These services can be combined flexibly: for a senior move in Frohnau, for example, we often also take care of clearing the old flat, while for a business move furniture assembly and part-load transport are often useful additions. On request we put together an individual package of services for each property – whether a flat near the S-Bahn station or a classic garden-city house – that realistically reflects time, effort and budget.
No-parking zone and parking for your move in Frohnau
Even though Frohnau, as a garden city, scores with wider streets and many private plots, a worry-free parking space on moving day cannot be taken for granted. Especially around Zeltinger Platz with Frohnau S-Bahn station, at Ludolfingerplatz and near shops and practices, parking pressure is high at times. In the purely residential streets, on the other hand, long driveways and hedges often prevent driving right up to the front door.
So that the removal van stands exactly where it is needed on the day, we apply for a no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone) for customers in Frohnau with the road traffic authority of the Reinickendorf district office. We take care of the official permit, put up the signs in good time before the moving date and document the signage, so that you don't have to worry about fines or discussions with neighbours.
For moves to villas with their own driveway, a short check is often enough to see whether the removal van can turn on the property or whether it needs to stop at the roadside because of the street width. In narrower sections, for example in side streets between Sigismundkorso and Markgrafenstraße, we also allow buffer time for manoeuvring. For appointments near Frohnau station, we also recommend keeping public parking spaces free early on, as residents as well as commuters depend on the available spaces here.
Our aim is for loading and unloading to take place without long carrying distances across the street – this protects both your furniture and the historic paving of some Frohnau street sections, and noticeably speeds up the whole process.
Moving costs in Frohnau: transparent fixed prices instead of surprises
The moving costs in Frohnau depend on several factors: the size of the household, the distance to your new home, floor access and any extra services needed, such as clearance, piano transport or a no-parking zone. Especially with the larger villas and country houses of the garden city, it also matters whether the cellar, loft or garden houses are to be cleared as well as the main building.
So that you can plan from the start, we always work with a transparent fixed price, which is set after a free survey or a detailed quote by video or photo list. On our overview page on moving costs in Berlin you will find general guide values for different flat sizes and service packages, which also serve as an initial guide for Frohnau households.
Typical cost factors for a move in Frohnau include:
- The distance between the old and new address, for example for a move within the garden city or to a neighbouring area
- Accessibility of the property – long driveways, stairs without a lift or narrow cellar stairs
- The extent of extra services such as furniture assembly, clearance or part-load transport
- Special items such as grand pianos, upright pianos or delicate works of art
As many villas in Frohnau have more living space than an average Berlin flat, we deliberately calculate the volume to be moved conservatively, so that there is enough capacity for furniture, boxes and garden equipment on moving day. This way we avoid second trips and still keep the total costs predictable.
Period buildings, villas and furniture lift: building features in Frohnau
The Frohnau garden city is characterised by country houses and villas from the 1910s to the 1930s, supplemented by a few post-war and new buildings. Many of these historic buildings have narrow, sometimes winding stairwells, high ceilings and delicate wooden staircases – features that give the neighbourhood its particular charm but call for great care when moving furniture.
As conventional lifts are naturally rare in detached one- and two-family houses, we check early on for every move in Frohnau whether using a furniture lift makes sense. Especially for bulky built-in wardrobes, large sofa suites or a grand piano, the external lift can save a lot of time while protecting the stairwell. We often combine this solution with our piano transport, as many Frohnau villas still have upright or grand pianos in their living rooms that need particularly gentle handling.
For dismantling and reassembling furniture, too, we rely on our fitters: fitted kitchens, wardrobe systems or wall units are properly dismantled, transported and reassembled in your new home as part of our furniture assembly – including connecting appliances if required. With listed façades and historic shutters, as found in parts of the garden city, our teams also work particularly carefully so as not to damage stucco, wooden ornaments or historic doorbell systems.
For new buildings in Frohnau, such as modern owner-occupied flats with a lift, the move is usually more straightforward – here we agree lift size, transport times and any lift reservations with the property management so that everything runs smoothly.
Popular moving routes from Frohnau in Berlin and the surrounding area
Many of the moves we handle from Frohnau stay within the district of Reinickendorf or go to the immediate neighbourhood. Customers particularly often move between Frohnau and neighbouring Hermsdorf, which is served by the same S-Bahn line S1 and has a similarly green, quiet residential character. Moves to Tegel, with its lake and historic centre, are also a common route, as is a change towards the Märkisches Viertel with its denser large-scale housing estate.
Other typical destinations are Wittenau, which is well connected by U-Bahn line U8, village-like Lübars on the edge of the Tegeler Fließ valley, and waterside Konradshöhe on the Havel. For each of these routes we clarify the travel time, parking situation and access at both addresses in advance.
As Frohnau borders directly on the state of Brandenburg – for example the municipality of Glienicke/Nordbahn – and the A111 is not far away, moves across the country are also part of our everyday work. For moves from Frohnau to other federal states, or moves here from anywhere in Germany, we offer reliable long-distance moves, in which we coordinate loading volume, route planning and delivery dates closely with you. On request we combine long-distance moves with part-load transport if only part of the household needs to be moved – a cost-efficient solution especially for smaller moves over longer distances.
Booking a move in Frohnau: process, dates and an insider tip
The road to your moving date in Frohnau starts with a no-obligation enquiry – by phone, via the form or directly on site. Depending on the scope of the move, we then arrange a free survey, during which we jointly clarify access routes, the stairwell, any access restrictions and the need for extra services such as clearance or a no-parking zone. On this basis you receive a binding fixed price covering all agreed services.
On moving day itself our team takes care of packing, transport and – on request – complete furniture assembly in your new flat or villa. If needed, we also coordinate parallel appointments, for example when a senior move coincides with handing the old flat back to the landlord, or when a business move is to take place outside business hours so as not to disrupt operations.
As Frohnau has plenty to offer culturally and for visitors, a short walk is a worthwhile reward once the moving work is done: the Buddhist House (Buddhistisches Haus) on Edelhofdamm, one of the oldest Buddhist centres in Europe, is set among quiet woodland paths and is a lovely destination for a first break in your new home. The nearby Hubertussee and the adjoining Frohnau Forest are also excellent places to take a breather after the stress of moving, before you get down to unpacking the last boxes.
Whether a compact move within the garden city, a change to a neighbouring area or a long-distance move anywhere in Germany – we support you in Frohnau from the first enquiry to the last lamp put up in your new home, and make sure that moving day runs in a structured, transparent way without unnecessary stress.
Applying for a no-parking zone in Frohnau: authority, fee and lead time
You apply for a no-parking zone for your move to the road traffic authority (Straßenverkehrsbehörde) of the Reinickendorf district office (Eichborndamm, 13437 Berlin, telephone (030) 90294-2939, email [email protected]). According to service.berlin.de, an informal application without special requirements is sufficient. The fee is at least €21 and depends on scope and duration. Processing takes about four weeks on average. According to the page, payment is made in cash or by Girocard.
The authority issues an order but no signs. These are put up by a firm specialising in roadworks safety. According to the district office, Zeltinger Platz and Ludolfingerplatz form the centre of Frohnau, with shops for residents. If your address is near these squares, state the street, house number, date and length of the area in the application.
Whether a no-parking zone is needed in Frohnau depends on how close the van can get to the property driveway or the front door and whether there is enough space at the roadside. We clarify this during the survey and, if you wish, when planning the application. Keep the order to hand on moving day. Questions from the authority are answered most quickly by phone. Our page on the no-parking zone and the guide Applying for a no-parking zone: step by step show the process. You will find the district under Moving in Reinickendorf.
Moving in Frohnau: access to villas and plots in the garden city
According to the Reinickendorf district office, Frohnau was built between 1908 and 1910 by the Berliner Terrain-Centrale under Prince von Donnersmarck. In 1907 the company had bought woodland from the von Veltheim family and founded the villa colony "Gartenstadt Frohnau". Today this neighbourhood in the far north of the district is regarded as an exclusive location for villas and country houses, with around 17,000 people living on 7.8 square kilometres. All the parks and gardens were designed by the garden architect Ludwig Lesser, and the Casino Tower rises 30 metres high. The Buddhist House, built for the physician Paul Dahlke, is also part of the local scene.
For your move this means that villas and country houses often stand on larger plots. The important points are therefore:
- the width of the driveway and whether the removal van can drive in,
- the length of the route from the vehicle to the front door,
- stairs, cellar access and garden access for bulky furniture.
We plan garden furniture and garden tools separately from household goods, because they are packed and secured differently. You will find tips in our guide Moving garden furniture and a barbecue. Registration after moving in takes place within 14 days, for example at the Rathaus Reinickendorf citizens' office (Eichborndamm 215) by appointment. For the neighbouring areas, see Moving in Hermsdorf and Moving in Waidmannslust.
