Key answers for your move in Berlin Altglienicke
On the S-Bahn line to Schönefeld lie the stations Altglienicke and Grünbergallee (S9, S85). By lorry we arrive via Köpenicker Straße and Schönefelder Chaussee; the A 113 on the western edge has no junction here.
Altglienicke: old village centre below the hill, estates on the hill
Altglienicke goes back to the village of Glinik, whose name comes from the Slavic word for clay. The neighbourhood in the south of Treptow-Köpenick is crossed by the so-called slope edge (Hangkante): the historic village centre with the neo-Romanesque parish church lies “below the hill”, the later estates such as Spreetal, Altglienicker Höhe, Grüneck, Sachsenberg or Falkenhöhe “on the hill”. Added to this are the Kosmosviertel on Schönefelder Chaussee, built between 1987 and 1990, as well as the Kölner Viertel, the Ärztinnenviertel and the Anne-Frank-Carrée. Praktik Transport und Umzüge – under the brand “Beste Umzug” – is based in Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and plans every address in Altglienicke beforehand instead of turning up with a one-size-fits-all scheme.
The location matters for the approach: in the north, the Teltow Canal forms the boundary with Adlershof; in the south, along the boundary with Bohnsdorf, runs the S-Bahn to Schönefeld with the stations Altglienicke and Grünbergallee (S9, S85). The road axis Köpenicker Straße – Schönefelder Chaussee crosses the neighbourhood from north-east to south-west; the A 113 runs along the western edge but has no junction in Altglienicke. The A 117 towards the Waltersdorf interchange begins at the street Am Seegraben. This way we reach every address with a private move and, for a business relocation, plan time windows outside opening hours for practices and businesses in the neighbourhood.
Anyone moving within Treptow-Köpenick, for example to Köpenick, Adlershof or Friedrichshagen, gets the same preparation from us: survey, written fixed price, parking restriction if necessary. For moves beyond Berlin we organise long-distance moves with a fixed date. From the first conversation to the last box, one contact person remains responsible for your move in Altglienicke.
Process and special features of a move in Altglienicke
A move in Altglienicke differs significantly from a move in densely built inner-city neighbourhoods. The neighbourhood is characterised by detached houses, semi-detached houses and terraced houses with their own gardens, for example along Ortolfstraße, Wegedornstraße or Bohnsdorfer Weg. For planning the move this means: longer carrying distances from the house to the vehicle, often across lawns, narrow garden paths or driveways that the removal van cannot drive up to directly.
Some residential streets also end as cul-de-sacs at the railway line of the outer ring: narrow access roads and a limited turning circle require trained staff and suitably sized vehicles. We therefore inspect every property in advance – whether a detached house, an apartment block on the edge of the neighbourhood or a new-build flat – and plan the route, vehicle type and the team required accordingly.
For moves with only a few pieces of furniture or partial loads, for example when a parent moves to Altglienicke and only individual rooms are being moved, we offer part-load transport – a cost-effective alternative to a complete move. For household clearances, for example after moving out of one of the older houses in the old village centre, we also take care of cellars, attics and garden sheds as part of our house clearance, which are not uncommon in Altglienicke.
The time of year also plays a role: in the green estates on the hill, leaves in autumn and ice on unpaved paths in winter can create additional challenges. Our teams are prepared for this and bring suitable equipment so that your move in Altglienicke runs safely and smoothly – regardless of the weather, type of housing or distance to the nearest parking space.
Our moving services for the Altglienicke neighbourhood
As a Berlin moving company for Altglienicke we offer the complete range of services around your move – tailored to the structure of the neighbourhood. For private individuals moving within Altglienicke or to a neighbouring area, we handle the complete private move including packing, transport and assembly. Practices, offices and small businesses in the neighbourhood use our business relocation, in which we move office equipment, IT and archives on schedule and with as little interruption to operations as possible.
- Private move – flat and house moves throughout Altglienicke, from the terraced-house estate to the new-build flat
- Business relocation – office and practice moves in the neighbourhood, also outside opening hours
- Part-load transport – for smaller quantities or partial moves, especially furniture from a second home
- House clearance – cellars, garages and garden sheds in detached-house estates
- Piano transport – for instruments in older houses and terraced houses in the village centre
- Senior move – sensitive support when moving into assisted living
Piano transport in particular is in demand in Altglienicke, as many detached houses have music rooms or bay rooms with upright or grand pianos – transporting them over narrow stairs and garden paths requires care and special equipment. After transport we also handle furniture assembly on request, so that shelves, beds and kitchens are ready for use straight away. For older residents moving, for example, from an estate house to a barrier-free flat, we offer the senior move with particularly careful planning and support.
Parking restriction zone and parking when moving in Altglienicke
Parking is one of the biggest challenges of a move in Altglienicke – albeit for different reasons than in densely built inner-city neighbourhoods. In the detached-house areas along Wegedornstraße, Ortolfstraße and in the estates on the Falkenberg, the streets are often narrow, sometimes passable in one lane only, and driveways must not be blocked. Around the Altglienicke and Grünbergallee S-Bahn stations there is also noticeable parking pressure from commuters, as many leave their cars here to continue on the S9 or S85.
So that our removal vehicle can stand right outside the front door on moving day and there are no long carrying distances, we apply for a parking restriction zone for you in good time. This is particularly useful in narrow residential streets with vehicles parked on both sides, but also in the quieter terraced-house estates, where private driveways and narrow access roads severely limit the room to manoeuvre a removal lorry.
Our approach is clearly structured:
- Checking the street situation on site, including access roads and turning options
- Application to the road traffic authority of the Treptow-Köpenick district office (according to service.berlin.de about 4 weeks' processing)
- Signs put up by a specialist company in good time before the moving date
- Coordination with neighbours where access roads are shared
This prevents valuable time being lost on moving day searching for parking or furniture having to be carried over long distances. Especially for moves involving piano transport or bulky furniture, a parking restriction zone set up in good time in Altglienicke pays off twice – both in time and financially, as unnecessary waiting times are avoided.
Moving costs and fixed prices for your move in Altglienicke
The moving costs in Altglienicke depend on several factors: the living space, the distance to the new home, the floors involved and any additional services such as a parking restriction zone, assembly or house clearance. As Altglienicke is predominantly characterised by detached and terraced houses, many moves do not involve a lift, but often a larger transport volume due to garages, cellars and garden houses. Moves from flats with a lift, for example in the Kosmosviertel, can often be calculated somewhat more compactly.
On our overview page on moving costs in Berlin you will find general guide values for different flat sizes and distances. For Altglienicke the basic rule is: the more precise the information on the property, access and scope, the more precisely a binding fixed price can be calculated – with no hidden extra costs on moving day.
The following factors have a significant influence on the cost of a move in Altglienicke:
- Type of housing: detached house, terraced house, panel building in the Kosmosviertel or new build
- Access situation and need for a parking restriction zone
- Moving volume including cellar, attic and garden
- Distance to the destination, for example within Treptow-Köpenick or as a long-distance move
- Additional services such as furniture assembly, piano transport or house clearance
For Altglienicke we generally recommend a free on-site survey or a detailed video survey, especially for houses with larger gardens or several outbuildings. This allows a realistic fixed price to be determined in advance, which also transparently takes into account special items such as part-load transport or a senior move. Our customers particularly appreciate this cost certainty for larger moves from the old village centre or the estates.
Panel building, estate house, village centre: moving by building type in Altglienicke
The buildings in Altglienicke are unusually varied. Around the parish church of 1894/95 in the old village centre stand older houses; in the estates on the hill there are mainly detached, semi-detached and terraced houses with gardens. The Kosmosviertel on Schönefelder Chaussee was built between 1987 and 1990 in prefabricated panel construction; after 1990 the Kölner Viertel, the Ärztinnenviertel and the Anne-Frank-Carrée were added. Each of these building types places its own demands on a move.
Panel buildings and new builds usually have a lift, but its cabin does not take every wardrobe. We therefore measure in advance and dismantle large furniture if necessary. Where there is no lift or a bulky item does not fit through the stairwell, we use a furniture lift that transports wardrobes, sofas or pianos via the balcony or window and protects both the stairwell and the furniture.
In the detached and terraced houses along Ortolfstraße or Bohnsdorfer Weg the situation is different: instead of floors, cellar stairs, converted attics and garden paths are what matter here. Our teams bring carrying and securing equipment to master uneven paths, door thresholds and narrow cellar entrances safely.
After transport, we offer professional assembly and dismantling as part of our furniture assembly – from the fitted kitchen in a new build to the old wardrobe from the estate house. In older houses in the village centre we pay particular attention to door frames and narrow passageways. This way your move in Altglienicke runs smoothly regardless of the architectural style of your home.
Popular moving routes from Altglienicke
Many moves start in Altglienicke and lead to neighbouring areas within Treptow-Köpenick or beyond. Thanks to the S9 and S85 S-Bahn lines, the Köpenicker Straße – Schönefelder Chaussee road axis and the nearby A113, these routes can be covered quickly and predictably. A particularly frequent route leads to Adlershof, which is known for its science and technology location and is often the destination of commuters who live in Altglienicke and work in Adlershof – or vice versa.
Moves towards Köpenick with its historic town centre and waterside locations on the Dahme and Spree are just as popular, as are moves to Friedrichshagen on the Müggelsee, which is popular with families from Altglienicke because of its quiet residential setting. The route to the former industrial location of Oberschöneweide with its increasingly renovated loft and new-build flats is also one of our regular tours.
Those who prefer something more urban often move north to Alt-Treptow or to green Plänterwald with its park of the same name right on the Spree. Moves towards Bohnsdorf and Grünau are also everyday occurrences due to their proximity and can usually be completed within one day.
For moves that go beyond Berlin – for example for work to Brandenburg, to other federal states or abroad within Europe – we organise reliable long-distance moves from Altglienicke. Thanks to the proximity of the A113 and BER airport, longer distances can also be planned efficiently and with clearly calculable time windows, without you having to worry about logistics or stopovers.
Booking, process and an insider tip for your move in Altglienicke
Booking your move in Altglienicke with us is straightforward and transparent. After first getting in touch – by phone, via the form or with photos of your flat – we arrange an in-person or digital survey depending on the scope. Especially for larger properties such as detached houses with a garden, garage and attic, we recommend an on-site survey in order to realistically assess access routes, the parking situation and any need for a parking restriction zone.
You then receive a detailed fixed price covering all the services discussed – whether a private move, part-load transport, house clearance or piano transport. On moving day itself our well-coordinated team takes care of packing, transport, assembly and, on request, complete furniture assembly, so that you can settle straight into your new home.
A real insider tip for everyone moving to Altglienicke or who already knows the neighbourhood: the water tower on Schirnerstraße and the neo-Romanesque parish church in the old village centre invite you on a first tour of discovery. On the western edge of the neighbourhood, the Rudow-Altglienicke landscape park, which was created as compensation for the construction of the A 113, is worth a walk – a good way to unwind after a strenuous moving day.
We recommend booking your moving date early, especially in the busy periods at the end of the month and in the summer months. This not only secures your preferred date but also gives enough lead time for applying for a parking restriction zone and for the individual planning of your move in Altglienicke – whether within the neighbourhood, to Treptow-Köpenick or as a long-distance move to another city.
Parking restriction for your move in Altglienicke: Treptow-Köpenick road traffic authority
The Treptow-Köpenick district office is responsible for Altglienicke. On its page about the road traffic authority, it lists the temporary installation of traffic signs, such as parking restrictions for moves, as one of its tasks. The authority is located in the Roads and Green Spaces Office:
- Neue Krugallee 4, 12435 Berlin; PO Box 910240, 12414 Berlin
- Email: [email protected]
- Telephone according to service.berlin.de (Roads and Green Spaces Office): (030) 90297-0
The district's website gives no information on opening hours, lead time or fees. The binding framework is that of service.berlin.de: informal application, minimum fee of 21.00 euros depending on extent and duration, processing roughly four weeks. The authority does not supply signs; the portal recommends roadworks safety companies.
The district office also explains that the road traffic authority becomes involved as soon as the use of public road space goes beyond general public use and residents' use – and it explicitly includes parking restrictions for moves. For the application, have the street, house number, date, time and the desired length of the area ready. Whether a parking restriction is needed in your street is something we clarify during the survey, where we look at the parking space for the lorry and the routes to the front door together with you.
How we coordinate the application, signage and moving date is described on the page Parking restriction zone.
Altglienicke: parish church, Gagfah estate and Kölner Viertel
The chronicle of the Treptow-Köpenick district office first mentions the village of Glinik in Emperor Charles IV's land register of 1375; the name is Slavic and refers to clay or sandy soil; the municipality of Altglienicke was founded on 17 April 1893. For the buildings, the district office mentions, among others:
- the old village centre around the parish church of 1895;
- the Gagfah estate from the 1930s, described as a “homestead for employees”;
- the Kölner Viertel south of the outer railway ring, whose streets are named after Treptow's twin city Cologne;
- the water tower on Schirnerstraße (1905/06), almost 40 metres high and now a museum.
On the neighbourhood page, the district office also points to the Grünzug Kosmosviertel green corridor project. The Falkenberg garden city designed by Bruno Taut, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008, lies in the neighbouring Bohnsdorf.
The district office's chronicle ranges from the electricity connection in 1904 and the gasworks of 1908 to the renovation of the water tower by a new owner in 1999. Detached houses, estate houses and panel-building flats place different demands: from yard access and gardens to narrow stairwells and lifts. We clarify this during the survey and plan the vehicle, team and time window accordingly. After moving in, you register within 14 days (service.berlin.de).
