From Berlin to Stuttgart

Your move in Stuttgart with a team from Berlin

Fixed price after a survey

Unsere Firma comes from Berlin-Moabit for moves in Stuttgart and plans slopes, parking space and vehicle with you in advance.

Our company is based at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit, not in Stuttgart. For your move, the team travels with the lorry. That is why we ask precisely about steep access roads, Stäffele (stairways) and tight parking space in the valley basin before the date.

We prepare the quote for Stuttgart as a fixed price after a video survey or by arrangement. It covers the journey, floors, carrying distances and the permits that may be required from the city – such as a parking restriction zone with two weeks' notice.

Parking
restrictions, slopes, diesel ban: planning in Stuttgart

Key topics around your move in Stuttgart
A move in the state capital raises a few specific questions – from access on slopes to the right parking restriction zone. You should know these topics before your moving date in Stuttgart.

Parking and parking restrictions

In densely built-up districts such as Stuttgart-Mitte or Stuttgart-Süd, a parking restriction zone applied for early is often crucial for a smooth process.

Access on slopes

Districts such as Degerloch, Sillenbuch or Botnang often involve longer carrying distances, which we already take into account in the quote.

Low-emission zone and diesel ban

According to the city, driving bans apply to older diesels, Euro 5 in the valley basin and in three districts – ask about the emissions standard.

Frequently asked questions about moving in Stuttgart

Answers on costs, parking restrictions, the low-emission zone and slopes when moving in Stuttgart – with reference to the city's information and our price list, for private and commercial moves.

The costs depend on the size of the flat, floor and access situation. As guide values, our price list states: 1-room flat from €354, 2-room flat from €594 and 3-room flat from €915. Surcharges may apply for hillside locations without a lift, for example in Degerloch or Botnang.

How a move in Stuttgart's valley basin works

A move in Stuttgart differs in many respects from moves in flatter cities. The state capital of Baden-Württemberg lies in a valley basin (Talkessel), surrounded by vineyards and hills – which often means steep access roads, tight bends and the well-known Stäffele, the numerous stairways between the slopes. Anyone living in districts such as Degerloch, Sillenbuch or Botnang knows the challenge: if the removal van cannot get right up to the house, the carrying distances become long.

The Stuttgart low-emission zone also plays a role: according to the city, driving bans apply to older diesels, for Euro 5/V in the valley basin as well as in Bad Cannstatt, Feuerbach and Zuffenhausen. We therefore check the emissions standard of the vehicle used before the date.

The arterial roads B14, B27 and B10 and the motorways A8 and A81 connect Stuttgart to the national road network but are often congested at rush hour. That is why we plan moves in and around Stuttgart with a sufficient time buffer, especially as our team travels from Berlin.

Whether a one-room flat in Stuttgart-West, a period building in Stuttgart-Süd or a terraced house in Möhringen: Praktik Transport und Umzüge comes from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and plans every private move in Stuttgart according to location, floor and access, which we clarify with you beforehand. This way we avoid delays and unnecessary extra costs on moving day.

23 districts: residential areas in Stuttgart at a glance

Stuttgart is divided into 23 districts of very different character – this has a direct effect on the effort involved in a move. In the densely built-up city centre around Königstraße and Schlossplatz, period buildings with narrow staircases dominate, while districts such as Möhringen, Vaihingen or Weilimdorf are characterised more by apartment blocks and new-build areas.

  • Stuttgart-Mitte & Stuttgart-West: narrow streets of period buildings, high parking pressure, parking restriction zone often needed
  • Bad Cannstatt & Untertürkheim: close to Mercedes-Benz, good connection via the B10, mixed development
  • Vaihingen & Möhringen: on the Filder plateau, near the University of Stuttgart campus in Vaihingen
  • Degerloch, Sillenbuch, Botnang: hillside locations with gradients, often restricted access for large removal vans
  • Zuffenhausen & Feuerbach: Porsche's main plant in Zuffenhausen, Bosch in Feuerbach, mixed residential development
  • Stuttgart-Ost: hillside locations on the edge of the valley basin, many period buildings without a lift

We calculate individually for each of these locations: a move from a fourth floor without a lift in Stuttgart-Ost requires different resources from a move into a ground-level new build in Möhringen. The distance between the old and new flat within Stuttgart – for example from Zuffenhausen to Degerloch, right across the valley basin – also affects the calculation of driving time and staff requirements.

Because our team travels from Berlin, we clarify realistic time windows for each district in advance and also take particularities into account, such as city-centre streets closed for events on the Schlossplatz or at the Cannstatter Wasen.

Moving costs in Stuttgart: what you really pay

The moving costs in Stuttgart depend on the size of the flat, floor, distance and additional services. As many of Stuttgart's period flats have no lift and are located on slopes, we always factor floor surcharges and access particularities in transparently beforehand. As a rule, the earlier you book, the more precisely the price can be planned.

Flat sizePrice fromTypical examples
1-room flat€354Student shared flat in Vaihingen, single apartment in Stuttgart-West
2-room flat€594Couple in Bad Cannstatt, period building in Stuttgart-Süd
3-room flat€915Family in Möhringen, terraced house in Weilimdorf
Long-distance movefrom €3.85/kmStuttgart to Karlsruhe, Ulm or Berlin

In addition, costs may arise for a parking restriction zone (€30–100 per day according to the price list), for clearance of a cellar or attic and for professional piano transport. We recommend a survey for every move in Stuttgart, by video or by arrangement, especially for flats on the slopes of Degerloch or Sillenbuch, where the access is often not obvious at first glance.

Our fixed-price quotes include vehicle, staff, tools, liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) and the journey from Berlin – without hidden surcharges. So you know exactly when booking what your move in the state capital will cost.

Parking restriction zone and parking in Stuttgart

Anyone moving in Stuttgart city centre, in Stuttgart-West or in the Bohnenviertel knows the problem: parking is scarce, many streets are narrow and residents' parking is the rule. So that the removal van can stand right in front of the door, you need a parking restriction zone approved by the public order office (Amt für öffentliche Ordnung).

  • According to the city, apply at least two weeks before the moving date
  • Put up the signs at least three full days beforehand
  • Note the number plates of parked vehicles when putting them up
  • Our price list: €30 to €100 per day, depending on location and duration

Especially in densely built-up districts such as Stuttgart-Mitte, Stuttgart-Nord or Bad Cannstatt, a parking restriction zone often makes sense, as regular parking spaces are usually occupied at moving time. In districts with narrow hillside streets such as Degerloch or Heslach, too, a space kept free right in front of the entrance can speed up moving day considerably and avoid damage to furniture from long carrying distances.

Whether a parking restriction zone is needed for your address and who takes care of the application and signs, we discuss during the survey. The city's details on application, fee and signage can be found further down this page.

Especially for moves with a tight time window – for example office moves in the city centre – early planning is crucial to avoid fines or delays.

From Stuttgart into the region – and to Berlin

Stuttgart is connected to the trunk road network via the motorways A8 (towards Karlsruhe or Munich), A81 (towards Heilbronn/Würzburg or Singen) and the A831. For longer distances our price list states from €3.85 per kilometre; you receive the binding price based on distance, furniture volume and floor as a fixed price after the survey.

We also plan moves from Stuttgart to these cities in Baden-Württemberg:

Between Stuttgart and our base on Stromstraße in Berlin-Moabit there are around 631 road kilometres, mostly via the A9, A6 and A81 – we plan moves to Berlin in exactly the same way as the opposite direction. For smaller quantities we also offer the part load, in which your belongings are carried together with other transports heading the same way – suitable for students or commuters with a manageable moving volume.

Our moving services for Stuttgart

Praktik Transport und Umzüge from Berlin-Moabit offers a range of services for Stuttgart that we adapt to the city's particularities – slopes, narrow streets of period buildings, low-emission zone. Our goal: a smooth move without stress, whether in Bad Cannstatt, Zuffenhausen or Möhringen.

  • Private move – from a one-room flat to a detached house in Stuttgart's outer districts
  • Office move – for offices, practices and businesses within the city
  • Senior move – considerately organised, including assembly and dismantling of furniture
  • Student move – affordable solutions for rooms in shared flats near the University of Stuttgart
  • Piano transport – secured transport, including from upper-floor flats
  • House clearance – for cellars, attics or complete household clearances
  • Part load – cost-saving transport for smaller moving volumes
  • Parking restriction zone – parking space in narrow city-centre streets

All services can be booked individually or as a complete package. We take the slopes of the valley basin into account when planning; the team brings its own equipment such as pallet trucks, carrying straps and harnesses as well as blankets to protect furniture. This is how we plan every type of move in Stuttgart – from a small student shared flat in Vaihingen to a large family move to Filderstadt or Esslingen in the surrounding area.

Office and business moves in Stuttgart

As an important business location with companies such as Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Bosch and numerous medium-sized firms, an office move in Stuttgart makes special demands on planning and execution. Whether moving a law firm in Stuttgart-Mitte, a medical practice in Bad Cannstatt or an IT company in Vaihingen – we ensure minimal disruption to business operations.

  • Moving dates at weekends or in the evening to avoid interruptions to operations
  • Professional transport of IT equipment, servers and file archives
  • Dismantling and assembly of office furniture, shelving systems and reception counters
  • Labelling and inventory for smooth reassembly
  • Clarifying whether parking restriction zones are needed in city-centre locations

Especially for companies in the area around Stuttgart's valley basin, in Vaihingen or on the Möhringen industrial estate, we clarify tight delivery zones, goods lifts and limited docking options for lorries in advance. We also coordinate moves between several sites – for example from a branch in Stuttgart to another in Ludwigsburg or Esslingen – from a single source.

In addition to the transport itself, our office move service includes a prior site inspection to identify access routes, lift dimensions and possible bottlenecks early on. If required, we also take care of the clearance of old office space so that you can hand the premises back to the landlord on time and broom-clean. This way your company's move in Stuttgart succeeds on schedule and without unnecessary downtime for staff and customers.

Student moves in Stuttgart & easy booking

With the University of Stuttgart in Vaihingen, the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart Media University (Hochschule der Medien) and DHBW Stuttgart, the city is a major university location. Demand for affordable student moves in Stuttgart is correspondingly high, for example when moving from a shared flat in Vaihingen to a new flat in Stuttgart-West or Feuerbach.

Our student move offer is tailored specifically to smaller budgets and manageable moving volumes – often a compact van is enough for boxes, bed and desk. Where possible, we use a part load on a planned tour to lower costs for everyone involved.

The booking process at Praktik Transport und Umzüge is deliberately kept simple:

  • Enquiry by phone, email or contact form stating flat size and floor
  • Non-binding fixed-price quote, with an on-site survey if required
  • Agreeing the date – with some lead time because of the journey from Berlin, including at the change of semester
  • Carrying out the move including loading and unloading, optionally with packing service
  • Handover of the new flat and disposal of packing material on request

For larger households or families we recommend booking the private move early, especially at the start of the semester in October, when many flats in Stuttgart change tenants at the same time. Mature students or their grandparents planning a senior move also have a personal contact with us throughout the entire moving process in Stuttgart.

Applying for a parking restriction in Stuttgart: deadlines, fee and signage

In Stuttgart the public order office (Amt für öffentliche Ordnung) is responsible (Team Baustellen Stadtbezirke, Eberhardstraße 35, 70173 Stuttgart). According to the city, you submit the application online via the Baden-Württemberg service portal (service-bw.de), usually with a personal service account. The road traffic authority then checks whether the loading zone can be set up.

  • Submit the application at least two weeks before the moving date.
  • Put up the signs at least three full calendar days before use.
  • According to the city, the fee is generally between 30 and 100 euros, depending on period and scope.
  • Attach additional signs showing the date and time from start to finish.

When putting up the signs, you should record in writing the number plates of all vehicles parked there. If a vehicle has to be towed away, pass this list on; towing is permitted at the earliest on the fourth day after the signs were put up. Reserving parking spaces on your own initiative, for example with wheelie bins, is not allowed without a permit. If there is an absolute no-stopping zone or a pedestrian zone in front of the loading zone, you also need an exemption permit. More on the process can be found on our page on the parking restriction zone.

Tip: submit the application early, state the street, house number, date and time precisely and have ready the documents the city offers for download: the application, the information sheet with the conditions and Annex 1 (Anlage 1) confirming the person responsible for traffic safety. If you have questions, according to the city you can reach the team on 0711 21691138 (Mon, Wed, Fri 9 am to 12 noon, Thu 9 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 3:30 pm) or via the public authority number 115.

Low-emission zone and diesel driving ban when moving in Stuttgart

Stuttgart has a particularity you should know about when choosing a vehicle. According to the city (page as of 24.02.2026), a year-round ban has applied to diesels of Euro 4/IV and lower throughout the city since 1 January 2019. For diesels of Euro 5/V and lower, a zonal ban has applied since 1 July 2020 in the “small low-emission zone”: in Stuttgart's valley basin and in the districts of Bad Cannstatt, Feuerbach and Zuffenhausen. Euro 6/VI diesels are currently not affected.

Exemptions include commercial delivery traffic. The city does not explicitly mention removal journeys in its overview. You should therefore ask about the emissions class of the vehicle used with every quote request, and check the emissions standard before booking if you drive yourself or hire a van. According to the city, a violation costs a fine of 100 euros, or 128.50 euros including fees and expenses. In justified cases an individual exemption can be applied for.

The same applies to companies in the valley basin. How we plan an office and business move, and what you should know about districts and costs, can be read in the Stuttgart guide.

Note: the city points out that the introduction of the ban for Euro 5/V is subject to further court decisions. Check the current situation on stuttgart.de shortly before your date.

Always one step ahead.
