Key answers for your move in Märkisches Viertel
Our vehicles use the wide access roads such as Wilhelmsruher Damm or Senftenberger Ring, which are generally easy to drive on. For addresses with entrances set back from the road, we also plan in the carrying distance.
Moving in Märkisches Viertel: how it works in the large estate
Märkisches Viertel on the eastern edge of Reinickendorf is one of the largest contiguous housing estates in Berlin. Between 1963 and 1974, striking rows of high-rise blocks and point tower blocks were built here on former farmland, and they still shape the townscape along Wilhelmsruher Damm, Senftenberger Ring, Treuenbrietzener Straße and Dannenwalder Weg today. A smooth private move or business move on this estate needs a thorough check in advance, because it differs considerably from the old-building neighbourhoods of central Berlin.
Unlike Charlottenburg or Prenzlauer Berg, there are no narrow back courtyards here, but instead long walks from the street to the entrance, large green spaces between the blocks and some very tall point tower blocks. Märkisches Viertel is also one of the few large Berlin residential areas without its own U-Bahn connection – the planned extension of the U8 was never built. Instead, the neighbourhood is served by bus routes on almost all main roads and by Wittenau S-Bahn and U-Bahn station on its western edge, which is already in the neighbourhood of Wittenau.
This traffic situation has a direct impact on moving plans: removal vans often have to be positioned on the estate's wide but partly traffic-calmed access roads, while the actual entrance is reached across lawns or footpaths. A careful moving team factors these extra carrying distances in advance so that there are no unpleasant surprises on the moving day. If you are moving in Märkisches Viertel, have the differences between the estate's building types clarified in advance – from the lower slab blocks on Eichhorster Weg to the striking tower blocks on Treuenbrietzener Straße.
Moving services in Märkisches Viertel: everything from a single source
As a Berlin moving company from Moabit, we offer a complete service package in Märkisches Viertel that is tailored precisely to the needs of the estate. With a classic private move, we handle the complete transport of your home's furnishings, whether from a three-room flat on Senftenberger Ring or a flat in one of the slab blocks on Dannenwalder Weg. For businesses too, such as doctors' practices or small offices in the Märkisches Zentrum, we carry out business moves on schedule with minimal disruption to daily business.
The following extra services are also frequently requested on the estate:
- Part load for smaller moves or single pieces of furniture, when a whole removal van is not worthwhile
- Clearance of cellars, attics and flats before moving out or after house clearances
- Piano transport for the many old pianos and modern digital pianos in the estate's flats
- Furniture assembly for properly dismantling and reassembling wall units, kitchens and shelving systems
- Seniors' move with particular consideration for older residents, many of whom have lived in Märkisches Viertel since the 1970s
Precisely because Märkisches Viertel has many apartment buildings with different floor plans – from compact two-room flats to spacious four-room flats in the tower blocks – individual advice on site is worthwhile. We match the number of staff, vehicle size and required extra services exactly to your living situation so that you do not have to improvise yourself on the moving day. Our team looks at the access routes to the courtyards of the housing complexes as well as the position of the lifts in the estate's different building types, and can therefore calculate realistic time windows for your move.
Parking restriction zones and parking in Märkisches Viertel
Compared with densely built old-building neighbourhoods, the parking situation in Märkisches Viertel is generally more relaxed: the estate was planned with wide access roads, car parks and underground garages, so on streets such as Wilhelmsruher Damm or Senftenberger Ring there is usually enough space for a moving van. Nevertheless, on busy days in particular, for example around the Märkisches Zentrum shopping centre, parking spaces can be heavily occupied.
So that the removal van can stand directly outside the entrance on the moving day, we still recommend a parking restriction zone for many addresses in Märkisches Viertel. We take care of registering it with the responsible office in Reinickendorf, put up the signs in good time and thus ensure that no other vehicle blocks the reserved area on the day of the move. This is particularly important for tower blocks with only one access road or for buildings whose entrances are set back from the street across lawns and paths – here a correctly set-up parking restriction zone noticeably shortens the carrying distances.
Forward-looking parking planning also pays off for moves with a tight time window, for example if you work during the day or the handover of the old flat takes place at a fixed time. As part of the free survey, or on the basis of photos and address details, our team checks whether and to what extent a parking restriction zone in Märkisches Viertel makes sense, and includes the cost transparently in your overall quote. This way you avoid unnecessary waiting times, long walks with heavy boxes and stress on the moving day itself.
Moving costs in Märkisches Viertel: transparent fixed prices
The moving costs in Märkisches Viertel depend on several factors: the size of the flat, the floor and the lift situation, the distance to the destination and any extra services needed, such as clearance or piano transport. You will find a detailed overview with guide values and sample calculations on our page on moving costs in Berlin.
For residents of Märkisches Viertel, there are some typical cost factors: moves from the upper floors of the tower blocks on Treuenbrietzener Straße or Eichhorster Weg often require more staff and time, even where there are modern lifts, as these often have limited car sizes. Moves within the estate, for example from a smaller to a larger flat in the same block, are on the other hand usually particularly affordable, as the carrying distances are short and there are no long driving times.
We always work with transparent fixed prices: after a free survey on site or a digital assessment based on photos and videos, you receive a binding quote with no hidden extra costs. It includes, among other things:
- Vehicle and staff to suit the size of the flat
- Loading and unloading, including transport protection for furniture and floors
- Optional services such as part load or clearance as needed
- Costs for any parking restriction zone required
Precisely because Märkisches Viertel has many comparable flat layouts in the slab and tower blocks, after a survey we can give realistic estimates of the time required and the associated costs – with no unpleasant surprises on the final invoice.
Tower blocks, lifts and furniture lifts in Märkisches Viertel
In terms of buildings, a move in Märkisches Viertel differs greatly from a classic old-building move in central Berlin. The estate is characterised by point tower blocks, for example on Treuenbrietzener Straße, and numerous lower slab blocks with four to six floors along Dannenwalder Weg and Senftenberger Ring.
Most tower blocks have passenger lifts, but these often date from the 1960s and 1970s and have correspondingly compact car dimensions. Large wall units, sofa suites or pianos often do not fit into these lifts, so a furniture lift is the more practical and gentler solution. During the survey our team already checks whether the position of the balconies or windows of a residential building allows a furniture lift to be used, and plans the staff accordingly.
For bulky or particularly valuable instruments, we also recommend our piano transport, which reliably avoids jolts and scratches when moving through narrow stairwells or by lift. After the transport we also take care of furniture assembly on request, i.e. proper dismantling in the old flat and reassembly in the new one – practical if you are moving within Märkisches Viertel or to one of the neighbouring areas and want your fitted kitchen or wall unit to arrive undamaged.
Especially with seniors' moves, which are particularly common in Märkisches Viertel because of its long-standing residents, the combination of a lift check, furniture lift and sensitive support is decisive for a stress-free process.
Popular moving routes from Märkisches Viertel
Many moves from Märkisches Viertel lead to quieter, greener neighbourhoods within Reinickendorf. We particularly often help families move to Wittenau, which is directly linked to Märkisches Viertel via Wittenau S-Bahn station, or to Hermsdorf with its single- and two-family houses.
Moves to the village-like neighbourhood of Lübars, directly next to the Freizeitpark Lübars and the Berlin city boundary, and to the villa area of Frohnau are also in demand. Those drawn to the Havel often move to Konradshöhe or to watery Tegel with its well-known lake and historic old town.
Besides these moves within Reinickendorf, we regularly handle moves from Märkisches Viertel to other Berlin districts as well as long-distance moves across Germany, for example when residents of the estate move to other federal states for work. For such longer routes we plan the route in advance, including stops, traffic volume and any toll roads, so that the moving day runs smoothly despite the greater distance.
Whether it is a short distance within the estate, a move to a neighbouring area or a long-distance move across Germany: our fleet and our teams are set up for different route lengths, so we can organise both a move of a few hundred metres within Märkisches Viertel and a drive of several hours to another city reliably and on schedule.
How booking your move in Märkisches Viertel works
With us, a move in Märkisches Viertel always begins with a non-binding first contact, by phone, email or via our contact form. In the first conversation we record the most important key details: your address on the estate, the floor, the lift situation, the approximate size of the flat and the preferred moving date. As many buildings in Märkisches Viertel have similar floor plans, we can often give a first realistic estimate on the phone.
In the next step we offer a free survey on site, either in person at your flat on Wilhelmsruher Damm, Senftenberger Ring or another address in the neighbourhood, or alternatively digitally via a video walk-through. During it we clarify specific details such as the need for a parking restriction zone, whether a furniture lift is necessary and any extra services such as a part load or clearance. On this basis we prepare a binding fixed-price quote.
Once you confirm, we firmly reserve the date you want in our schedule and take care of all organisational points in good time, such as registering the parking restriction zone with the responsible authority in Reinickendorf. On the moving day itself, our team arrives on time with a suitably sized vehicle and enough staff, packs and secures your furniture properly and transports everything swiftly to the new address – whether within Märkisches Viertel, to a neighbouring area or as a long-distance move to another city.
Finally, on request, we also take care of furniture assembly in the new flat, so that you can move straight in at the end of the day without having to hunt for screws and wall plugs yourself. Clear, step-by-step communication from the first enquiry to the handover of the keys is particularly important to us.
After the move: living in Märkisches Viertel
Anyone new to Märkisches Viertel will find much more greenery here than the large estate's reputation would suggest. Between the blocks there are extensive lawns, playgrounds and rows of trees that give the estate a surprisingly open character despite its tower blocks. A lovely destination for new residents is the Freizeitpark Lübars directly to the north, with a youth farm, bridle paths and open fields, perfect for a walk straight after a tiring moving day.
A meeting place in the neighbourhood is the Panoramaplatz in the Märkisches Zentrum with its palm trees; the Fontane-Haus is right next to it. Indispensable for everyday life is the Märkisches Zentrum, the estate's large shopping centre, where boxes, kitchen utensils or decorations for the new flat can quickly be bought after the move.
Practical for newly arrived families: around Senftenberger Ring and Treuenbrietzener Straße there are numerous day-care centres, schools and medical centres, so everyday needs can be organised close to home. Connections to the neighbouring areas are also good, whether by bus to Wittenau S-Bahn station or by car towards Frohnau and Hermsdorf.
Our tip for the moving day itself: as many of the estate's courtyards are kept car-free, it is worth checking early with the property management which paths are actually cleared for furniture transport. With this agreement and a little preparation, moving into or within Märkisches Viertel becomes an uncomplicated fresh start in a green, well-connected part of Reinickendorf.
Applying for a parking restriction in Märkisches Viertel: road traffic authority and property management
The road traffic authority of the Reinickendorf district office is responsible for a parking restriction outside your entrance in Märkisches Viertel (Eichborndamm, 13437 Berlin, phone (030) 90294-2939). According to service.berlin.de, an informal application is enough. The fee is at least €21 and depends on scope and duration; processing takes about four weeks on average. The authority issues the order, and the signs are put up by a site safety company. Office hours and further contact details are on service.berlin.de.
According to berlin.de, the flats in the neighbourhood belong almost entirely to the state-owned housing company GESOBAU. On gesobau.de, the tenant service section has house rules and a contact finder that names the contact person by street and house number. Ask there whether special rules for moves apply to the lift, the entrance area and access.
In the application, state the house number, the time period and the required length of the space. When moving out of a tower block, a space near the entrance makes sense so that the walking distances stay short. Keep the order to hand on the moving day and clarify in advance which entrances and lifts you may use. Read more about the application under parking restriction zone and in the guide Applying for a parking restriction zone: step by step. Moving Reinickendorf takes you to the district page.
Märkisches Viertel: a large 1960s estate with slab blocks and point tower blocks
According to berlin.de, Märkisches Viertel is considered the oldest large housing estate in West Berlin. The Reinickendorf district office gives a construction period of 1963 to 1974, with around 17,000 flats planned for 50,000 residents. According to berlin.de, the estate consists of slab blocks and point tower blocks with bold façade colours and plenty of greenery in between. GESOBAU manages around 15,000 flats. The centre includes the Märkisches Zentrum with shopping centres and the Fontane-Haus. Berlin.de also mentions five real palm trees on the Panoramaplatz in the Märkisches Zentrum, a well-known meeting place in the neighbourhood.
According to the district office, there has been a U-Bahn connection to the city centre at Wittenau S-Bahn station since 1994. On the way there lies the neighbourhood of Wittenau; for short distances, see also Moving Lübars.
For a move, the construction style means one thing above all: the lift and carrying distances are decisive. According to its own information, the BSR only collects bulky items from buildings above the 7th floor if they have a working lift. The items must be portable by two people without tools, and furniture must be dismantled. According to the BSR, collection at the standard rate costs a flat €100 for up to 5 cubic metres. After moving in, you register within 14 days; you will find help with this in the guide Registering after a move.
