Key answers for your move in Berlin Wilhelmsruh
We come from Moabit and drive to all Pankow neighbourhoods; we agree the date for the survey and the move in Wilhelmsruh directly with you. If you have specific dates in mind, we recommend getting in touch early via our contact form.
Wilhelmsruh: country-house colony, Bergmann-Borsig and S-Bahn
At 1.37 km², Wilhelmsruh is one of the smallest neighbourhoods in the district of Pankow and borders Reinickendorf to the west. To the south the neighbourhood is bounded by the S-Bahn line, to the north by Buchhorster Straße. Wilhelmsruh began as a country-house colony of the municipality of Rosenthal; villas were built from 1906, and in the 1950s the five-storey buildings of the workers' housing cooperative Bergmann-Borsig were added. Wilhelmsruh S-Bahn station, served by lines S1 and S26, lies on the southern edge, though already on Reinickendorf territory; bus routes 122 and 155 also serve the area.
Praktik Transport und Umzüge operates under the Beste Umzug brand from Stromstraße in Moabit. For Wilhelmsruh this means: we look at every address beforehand – town villas such as those on Hertzstraße, multi-storey tenements on Tollerstraße or the refurbished prefab blocks on Mozartstraße. This mix of building types requires individual planning, which we take into account for every private move and every business move.
Whether you are moving within Wilhelmsruh, between neighbourhoods of the district or further afield – we organise the transport from the first survey to the last box. We rely on transparent communication, binding dates and a crew that clarifies parking, delivery zones and lifts in advance. For small businesses, for example around PankowPark on the former Bergmann-Borsig site, we plan the move so that operations are interrupted for as short a time as possible.
Our removal company's services in the Wilhelmsruh neighbourhood
A move in Wilhelmsruh makes different demands depending on the location. Someone moving out of a tenement on Tollerstraße often needs different support from a family moving into a house on Hertzstraße. That is why we offer a broad, coordinated range of services that can be combined flexibly.
- Private move: for moves within Wilhelmsruh, to Rosenthal or further to Prenzlauer Berg, we handle packing, transport and assembly.
- Business move: we move small offices and business units along Kopenhagener Straße on schedule and with minimal interruption to operations.
- Part-load transport: for smaller loads, such as single pieces of furniture, we offer an affordable place on a shared transport.
- Clearance: before a move or when a household is dissolved, we properly clear cellars, lofts and flats.
- Piano transport: we deal with narrow stairwells in period buildings with suitable equipment and careful handling.
- Furniture assembly: we properly reassemble your furniture at your new home, including kitchens and wall units.
- Senior move: considerate support for older residents of Wilhelmsruh, who often prefer to take things more slowly.
All services can be combined into a complete package, so you don't have to worry about anything else on moving day. On request we also apply for a no-parking zone so that our van can stand right outside your front door – a detail that saves a lot of time, especially in Wilhelmsruh with its partly narrow streets.
No-parking zone and parking for your move in Wilhelmsruh
Anyone who has ever tried to find a spontaneous parking space for a removal van on Kopenhagener Straße or around Wilhelmsruh station knows that it can test your patience. Many streets in Wilhelmsruh are narrow, some built up on one side only, and parking pressure is noticeably high because of the proximity to Wilhelmsruh S-Bahn station (S1, S26) and the blocks of flats on Mozartstraße and Beethovenstraße. Even in the quieter residential streets near Goethestraße or Uhlandstraße, residents' cars are often parked bumper to bumper.
So that your moving day doesn't start with a search for a parking space, we set up a no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone) for you directly outside your building. We take care of the official application with the relevant office in the district of Pankow, the signage and putting up the signs in good time – usually a few days before the actual moving date. This secures enough space for the removal van, shortens carrying distances and saves you money, as unnecessary waiting time is avoided.
Especially for period buildings with narrow inner courtyards, as found in the southern part of Wilhelmsruh, a reserved loading zone is worth its weight in gold: boxes and furniture don't have to be carried long distances through back courtyards. Even for newer buildings with a driveway, such as the new cooperative building on Beethovenstraße, a loading zone set up at short notice can speed things up considerably. Talk to us early so that we can apply for the no-parking zone in good time – ideally when you book your private move or business move. This saves you stress and unnecessary discussions with residents on moving day.
Moving costs in Wilhelmsruh: transparent fixed prices
The question of moving costs for a move in Wilhelmsruh has to be answered on a particularly individual basis, as the number of floors, availability of a lift, distance to the new home and the amount of household goods can vary greatly. A move from a small period flat without a lift on Tollerstraße differs considerably in price from a business move of an office in PankowPark with extensive equipment. On our overview page on moving costs in Berlin we explain the most important price factors in detail.
As a rule, the earlier you book and the more precisely we can assess the scope during a survey – on site or by video – the more reliably a fixed price can be calculated. The main factors include:
- The size of the flat and the number of pieces of furniture to be moved
- The floor and whether there is a lift, especially relevant in period buildings without one
- Carrying distances from the vehicle to the flat door, for example for back-courtyard locations
- Extra services such as furniture assembly, clearance or piano transport
- The distance to the destination, whether within Wilhelmsruh or as a long-distance move to another city
We calculate transparently and without hidden extra costs. After the survey you receive a binding quote, which we stick to even if there are minor changes to the plan. So you know from the start how much to expect and can plan your budget for the move in or out of Wilhelmsruh with confidence – with no nasty surprises on moving day.
Period buildings, new builds and furniture lift in Wilhelmsruh
Wilhelmsruh shows a mix of buildings typical of Pankow: in the older core around Kopenhagener Straße and Tollerstraße there are town villas and tenements from around 1900, some with narrow stairwells, high ceilings and narrow hallways. On Mozartstraße and Beethovenstraße, by contrast, there are five-storey prefab blocks and a new cooperative building with larger entrance areas. These differences have a direct impact on the logistics of a move.
Many period buildings in Wilhelmsruh have no lift, some have narrow spiral staircases and low cellar doors – ideal conditions for using a furniture lift. Instead of laboriously carrying bulky wardrobes, sofas or a piano over narrow landings, we lift them past the window on the outside directly to the floor in question. This protects not only your furniture but also the historic building fabric and the walls in the stairwell. Especially for piano transport from the third or fourth floor, the furniture lift is often the only practical solution.
After transport we can also take care of proper reassembly: from furniture assembly and connecting lamps to fitting the kitchen, we make sure you can move straight in. For older residents of Wilhelmsruh who want to move from a flat they have lived in for many years into a step-free new-build flat, we also offer the senior move – with particularly considerate planning, plenty of time and support in keeping familiar pieces of furniture.
Popular moving routes from Wilhelmsruh
Thanks to good connections via the S1 and S26 and bus routes 122 and 155, Wilhelmsruh is a frequent starting point for moves within Berlin and beyond. Within the district of Pankow, many Wilhelmsruh residents move towards Französisch Buchholz, which is similarly green, or further towards Blankenburg and Heinersdorf when they are looking for a house with a garden.
Moves to the more densely built-up, urban parts of Pankow are also in demand: moves to Prenzlauer Berg or Weißensee are part of our everyday business, as are trips towards Buch, for example for commuters who work at the health and research campus there. We plan these routes in advance so that rush hours on main roads such as Dietzgenstraße are avoided as far as possible.
Beyond the district boundaries, customers from Wilhelmsruh benefit from the proximity to the A114 motorway and on to the Berlin ring road, which makes moves to Brandenburg or other federal states considerably easier. For such routes we offer reliable long-distance moves, in which we pack your household goods safely, transport them and reassemble them at the destination. Smaller transports, such as single pieces of furniture to relatives outside Berlin, can also be arranged easily via part-load transport, which is particularly affordable when a whole removal van is not needed.
How booking your move in Wilhelmsruh works
To make sure your move in Wilhelmsruh runs smoothly, we follow a clearly structured process that gives you certainty from the first enquiry to moving in. First, you contact us via our contact form, by phone or by email and give us the key details: size of the flat, current address in Wilhelmsruh, destination address and preferred date.
In the second step we arrange a survey – either in person on site, for example on Kopenhagener Straße or Hertzstraße, or conveniently by video call. During the survey we record the volume of goods to be moved, check building features such as the stairwell, lift or courtyard passage and discuss possible extra services such as clearance or furniture assembly. On this basis we prepare a binding quote with a fixed price.
Once you accept, we take care of organisational details in good time, such as applying for a no-parking zone if the parking situation in your street requires it. On moving day itself our team arrives on time, packs any loose items if needed, secures furniture for transport and loads everything properly into our vehicles. At the destination, everything is carried into the flat, including assembly and connection of furniture and appliances if you wish.
Whether a small private move within Wilhelmsruh, a complex business move or a long-distance move to another federal state: we keep track of everything for you, communicate transparently and are available for questions at short notice too. This turns what is often a stressful event into a predictable, well-organised day.
Insider tip Wilhelmsruh: the neighbourhood away from the hustle
If you are moving to Wilhelmsruh, you will soon notice that this neighbourhood scores with a pleasant mix of peace and quiet and good connections. A real insider tip is the Wilhelmsruher See, once a marshy area nicknamed the "duck pond", and the Garibalditeich, where a public bathing establishment opened in 1920 – ideal for taking a breather after a tiring moving day, before the last boxes are unpacked.
The proximity to larger green spaces such as the Schönholzer Heide in neighbouring Niederschönhausen also makes Wilhelmsruh attractive for families, without having to do without good infrastructure: shops along Kopenhagener Straße, doctors and schools nearby and short distances to Wilhelmsruh S-Bahn station with the S1 and S26 mean that everyday life quickly finds its usual rhythm again after the move.
If you want to make space before moving in, an early clearance of the cellar, loft or old flat is a good idea – we do this properly and with the environment in mind, so you can start afresh in your new home in Wilhelmsruh. And because many Wilhelmsruh residents like to take a piano or an heirloom from grandmother's living room with them, we also take care of particularly delicate items with our piano transport.
Whether you are moving within the neighbourhood, to another Pankow neighbourhood such as Französisch Buchholz or leaving Wilhelmsruh altogether: as a Berlin removal company from Moabit, we support you with care and an eye for detail – we look at every address beforehand.
No-parking zone in Wilhelmsruh: applying to the Pankow road traffic authority
For Pankow neighbourhoods, you submit the application to the road traffic authority of the Pankow district office. According to service.berlin.de, this is the roads and green spaces office, road traffic authority (Straßenverkehrsbehörde), Storkower Straße 97, 10405 Berlin (2nd floor), telephone (030) 90295-0, email [email protected]; the portal gives the opening hours as Tuesdays 9 am to 12 noon.
The procedure according to the state portal: an informal application is sufficient; there are no other requirements. The minimum fee is €21.00, depending on scope and duration. Processing takes on average about 4 weeks. The authority orders the no-parking restriction but does not put up any signs; a specialist firm does that.
The Pankow district office adds that traffic signs for loading and unloading are only ordered for qualified companies that work according to the RSA 21 guidelines and put up and remove the signs. The removal van must also be able to stop outside both the old and the new flat. So apply for the zone for both addresses and state the street, house number, date and time. With a processing time of four weeks, you should apply at least one month before the move.
Allow plenty of time: if a deadline gets tight, it can be difficult to get the zone in time. We support the planning – see no-parking zone. You will find other places in the district under Pankow.
Villa suburb with S-Bahn station: residential areas and access in Wilhelmsruh
According to the Pankow district office, Wilhelmsruh belonged to Rosenthal until 2000 and has been a neighbourhood in its own right since the district reform at the beginning of 2001. The colony was laid out in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a villa suburb of Rosenthal: farmers sold their fields to large building companies. In 1877 the Berlin Northern Railway (Nordbahn) opened; Wilhelmsruh S-Bahn station lies on it today – just on Reinickendorf territory. The northern entrance from Wilhelmsruh has been open again since 2001.
Industry also left its mark: from the early 20th century the Bergmann electricity works made the place an industrial location. According to the district office, the site is being developed as PankowPark for business, culture and education.
For your move this means: villas and older blocks of flats often have different stairwells from newer buildings around the industrial areas, and the proximity to the station can also affect access. During the survey we clarify the floor, lift, carrying routes and parking before we prepare a quote. After moving in, according to service.berlin.de you register at a Berlin citizens' office within 14 days, free of charge and with the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). According to its website, the BSR accepts up to three cubic metres of bulky waste free of charge at its recycling centres. The neighbouring area to which Wilhelmsruh belonged until 2000 is Rosenthal.
