Key answers for your move in Saarbrücken
A move in Saarbrücken starts from €365 for a 1-room flat, from €589 for a 2-room flat and from €909 for a 3-room flat. The exact price depends on floor, distance and additional services such as a parking restriction zone.
Moving in Saarbrücken: the process in the valley basin on the Saar
A move in Saarbrücken differs in many details from a move in a lowland city. The state capital of Saarland lies in a valley basin on the Saar and is framed by striking hills such as the Winterberg, the Eschberg and the Halberg. Anyone moving from a flat on the Eschberg or in Dudweiler to a flat on the banks of the Saar has to reckon with noticeable differences in height, tight bends and partly steep access roads – one reason why at Praktik Transport und Umzüge every tour is planned individually.
The classic process begins with a survey by video or by arrangement, followed by a transparent fixed-price quote. We then take care of packing, dismantling furniture, the actual transport and reassembly in the new flat. Especially in the city centre around St. Johanner Markt, narrow lanes, cobblestones and historic period buildings with narrow stairwells characterise the scene – here we ask about the floor and stairwell in detail in advance.
Traffic is also a local feature: the A620 urban motorway cuts through Saarbrücken and is very busy at peak times, which requires good timing for loading and unloading. Saarbrücken is the only German state capital with a direct border to a neighbouring country; neighbouring municipalities include Forbach and Spicheren. Within the EU there are no customs formalities for household goods. For furniture transport within the region, or to have your items ride along in the van, we also offer a part-load, which is particularly affordable for smaller moving volumes.
Whether a new-build flat in Schafbrücke, a period building in St. Johann or a terraced house in Güdingen: we ask about the topographical and structural conditions in advance and plan every private move accordingly.
Districts and residential areas in Saarbrücken for your move
Saarbrücken is divided into a large number of districts of very different character – this has a direct effect on access, parking situation and transport effort for your move. St. Johann, the historic centre, impresses with its pedestrian zone, cafés and narrow streets of period buildings, while Alt-Saarbrücken, with its palace and administrative buildings, offers a quieter but also densely built location. Malstatt and Burbach are former working-class quarters in transition, characterised by Wilhelminian-era buildings, some of them without lifts.
The Dudweiler borough, with Scheidt, Jägersfreude and Herrensohr, lies in the north-east, and the Eschberg on a wooded hill of around 350 metres – long carrying distances and steep access roads can occur here. In residential areas such as St. Arnual, Schafbrücke or Güdingen, we check in advance whether the lorry can stop right in front of the house.
| District | Character | Moving feature |
| St. Johann | Centre, period buildings | Narrow lanes, parking restriction often needed |
| Dudweiler | Its own borough | Access depending on the street |
| Eschberg | Hillside location | Gradients, long carrying distances |
| Malstatt/Burbach | Wilhelminian era in transition | Period buildings often without a lift |
| St. Arnual/Güdingen | Residential areas near the Saar | Check parking situation in advance |
Whatever quarter you are moving in, whether Ensheim, Gersweiler, Klarenthal or Scheidt: we decide on vehicle size and staffing after the survey.
Moving costs in Saarbrücken: prices and cost factors
The moving costs in Saarbrücken depend on the size of the flat, floor, distance and any additional services needed. Our transparent price table, based on realistic average values for flats in Saarbrücken, serves as orientation.
| Service | Price |
| 1-room flat | from €365 |
| 2-room flat | from €589 |
| 3-room flat | from €909 |
| Long-distance move | from €4.20/km |
| Parking restriction zone | €30–100/day |
The following factors also influence the final price of a move in Saarbrücken:
- Floor and whether there is a lift, particularly relevant in period buildings in St. Johann or Malstatt
- Distance between the old and new address, for example from Dudweiler to Güdingen
- Additional services such as house clearance of the cellar or attic
- Special transports such as piano transport for bulky single items
- The need for a designated parking restriction zone in narrow streets
For students and senior citizens we also offer lower-priced packages, for example as part of our student move or senior move. All prices are non-binding guide values – after a free survey you receive an individual fixed-price quote that contains no hidden costs.
Applying for a parking restriction zone in Saarbrücken and parking when moving
Anyone moving in Saarbrücken knows the problem: in quarters such as St. Johann, Malstatt or around the Nauwieser Viertel, parking spaces are scarce and streets are often narrow. So that the removal van can stand right outside the door, a parking restriction zone is often needed; the public order office of the state capital Saarbrücken is responsible. This saves not only time but also unnecessary carrying across several blocks.
The cost of a parking restriction zone is between €30 and €100 per day, depending on location and duration. In densely populated locations such as Feldmannstraße or around Malstatt market, the investment is almost always worthwhile, as manoeuvring and carrying otherwise cost considerably more working time. We clarify during the survey whether one is needed and for what period, and coordinate it with your moving date.
- Apply early; the city's page does not state a fixed deadline
- Only put up signs once permission has been received
- Coordination with residents and neighbours in narrow residential streets
- Particularly important in period-building quarters without their own parking spaces
In districts with detached houses such as Bischmisheim or Fechingen, a short-term designation can also make sense, for example if a removal lorry cannot stop directly at the house because of roadworks. More details on the process, costs and responsibilities can be found on our page on the parking restriction zone. This way you avoid unpleasant surprises on moving day and ensure a smooth process right outside your front door.
From Saarbrücken to France, across Saarland and to Berlin
Saarbrücken is connected via the A620 along the Saar, the A6 towards Kaiserslautern and Mannheim and the A1 towards Trier and Cologne. Between Saarbrücken and our base on Stromstraße in Berlin-Moabit there are around 722 road kilometres – more than the usual daily driving time of nine hours for a lorry. For a long-distance move from Saarbrücken we plan the route, stopovers and loading order so that your belongings arrive safely and on time.
Saarbrücken borders directly on France, for example on Forbach and Spicheren; we also plan destinations in Lorraine such as Metz on request. For smaller quantities or single pieces of furniture we offer an affordable part-load, where your goods are carried together with other transports.
- Long-distance moves throughout Germany from €4.20/km
- Fixed contacts for the entire route
- No customs formalities for household goods within the EU
- Can be combined with interim storage if moving in is delayed
We also handle moves within Saarland, for example to Homburg, Saarlouis, Neunkirchen or Völklingen. For regional and nationwide moves alike, we fix the route plan beforehand and state it in the quote.

Office and business moves in Saarbrücken
As the state capital of Saarland, Saarbrücken is home to numerous authorities, Saarland University and research institutions such as the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence. In addition, there are manufacturing companies and service providers in the city's commercial areas. For all these businesses we carry out office and business moves with minimal interruption to day-to-day business.
A business move in Saarbrücken often requires close coordination with facility management, the IT department and landlords, especially when office buildings in the city centre have limited delivery zones. We therefore usually plan the move outside core working hours or at weekends, dismantle and transport filing cabinets, server cabinets and workstations, and reassemble everything on time at the new location.
- Dismantling and assembly of office furniture and reception counters
- Safe transport of IT equipment and sensitive documents
- Labelling and allocation of boxes by department
- Coordination with property managers in office buildings in the city centre
- Scheduling with minimal downtime for your day-to-day business
Whether a law firm on Rathausplatz, a doctor's practice in St. Johann or a start-up near the university – we clarify the requirements of your business during the inspection. For larger projects, combining the move with house clearance of old office space is also worthwhile, so that the previous premises can be handed over swept clean. Further details on the process can be found on our page on the office move.
Student moves in Saarbrücken and how your booking works
With Saarland University and htw saar, Saarbrücken is a student city. At the start of semester in October and April, demand is high for small, budget-friendly moves between halls of residence, shared flats in St. Johann or Nauwiesen and first flats of one's own. Our student move in Saarbrücken is tailored specifically to small moving volumes, narrow stairwells and tight budgets.
To make sure your move runs smoothly, booking with Praktik Transport und Umzüge follows a clear process:
- Free enquiry by phone, email or online form with details of flat size and floor
- Non-binding fixed-price quote, including a parking restriction zone or part-load if required
- Date confirmation with your preferred date, also possible at short notice at the start of semester
- Carrying out the move including loading and unloading, with a packing service on request
- Completion at the destination with a joint check
Especially for students without a car of their own or who are new to dealing with landlords, we can also take over communication about access routes and the parking situation near halls of residence on request. Anyone who also needs to clear an old flat often combines the move with a small house clearance. Further information and price examples can be found on our page on the student move – simply book online or call us directly.
Parking restriction for your move in Saarbrücken: applying to the public order office
In Saarbrücken you apply for the parking restriction zone for your move at the road traffic office of the state capital's public order office (Ordnungsamt). According to saarbruecken.de ("Was erledige ich wo?" – what do I do where?), the public order office is located at Großherzog-Friedrich-Straße 111, 66121 Saarbrücken; you make an appointment by phone on +49 681 9050 or by email to [email protected]. The city provides the form "Antrag auf Einrichtung einer Haltverbotszone wegen Umzug/Veranstaltung/Anlieferung" (application for a parking restriction zone for a move/event/delivery) as a PDF. The form is dated July 2024; check at your appointment whether a newer version applies.
Among other things, the form asks for the following information:
- Applicant with address, telephone and email (for companies also the tax number)
- Date and time from/to
- Location, street and house number
- The existing parking regulation: residents' parking, short-term parking, loading zone, free parking or absolute no-stopping
- Collection of the permit at the cash desk or delivery by post
The city's page does not state deadlines and fees bindingly, so ask about them when making your appointment. The city can also be reached by phone via the public authority number 115. At the same time, ask whether a container or scaffolding at the moving location requires an additional permit. Anyone who needs to park at both the old and the new home should plan a separate application for each location. We will support you with this, see Parking restriction zone and our guide Applying for a parking restriction zone.
Saarbrücken: boroughs, citizens' offices and residents' parking when moving in
According to the city, Saarbrücken is divided into four boroughs with 20 districts. Mitte comprises Alt-Saarbrücken, St. Arnual, Eschberg, Malstatt and St. Johann. Dudweiler includes Dudweiler, Scheidt, Jägersfreude and Herrensohr. Halberg comprises Schafbrücke, Bischmisheim, Brebach-Fechingen, Bübingen, Ensheim, Eschringen and Güdingen; West consists of Altenkessel, Burbach, Klarenthal and Gersweiler. Whether you are moving into a district with its own parking zone changes the planning: according to the city, the residents' parking permit costs 30.70 euros for one year or 23 euros for half a year, and a change of parking zone 10.20 euros. A prerequisite is usually a main residence in the zone; there is no entitlement to a specific parking space. For visitors and helpers on moving day, the city points to free Park+Ride spaces along the Saarbahn and to mobile parking via PayByPhone.
Registration: The deadline is two weeks after moving in. You need your original identity card and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung); the tenancy agreement is not enough. Registration is free of charge and possible online via BundID or by appointment in the virtual citizens' office. There are four citizens' offices: City, Dudweiler, Halberg and West.
Further places in the state can be found under Moving Saarland and Moving Völklingen; cost factors in the Saarbrücken moving guide.
