Parking ban, bulky waste, registration: questions about moving in Dessau-Roßlau

Your questions about moving in Dessau Rosslau

Here you will find answers on costs, the parking ban, bulky waste and registration for your move in Dessau-Roßlau – with the city's contacts for private and commercial projects.

A move within the city starts from €354 for a 1-room flat, from €609 for a 2-room flat and from €909 for a 3-room flat. The exact price depends on the floor, the distance between districts such as Roßlau and the city centre, and the volume.

Dessau-Roßlau between the Elbe and the Mulde: how a move works

A move in the Bauhaus city of Dessau-Roßlau has some particular features. The independent city was formed on 1 July 2007 from Dessau and Roßlau (Elbe); it lies in the floodplain landscape of the Elbe, which the Mulde joins within the city area. The city includes the densely built centre of Dessau, estates such as Törten, residential areas such as Zoberberg and village-like districts such as Meinsdorf or Rodleben. Praktik Transport und Umzüge is not based here but at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin-Moabit – which is why we plan every trip with advance notice.

The city centre around Zerbster Straße and Ratsgasse is partly densely built, while districts such as Zoberberg or Roßlau offer wider streets and more parking. If you are moving out of an older building in Ziebigk or a listed house in the Törten Bauhaus estate, you should clarify narrow stairwells and tight access with us in advance. The A9 has the Dessau-Süd junction on the B184 and the Dessau-Ost junction on the B185; you reach Roßlau via the Coswig junction and the B187. From our base it is around 124 road kilometres.

A typical move in Dessau-Roßlau with us:

  • Free survey or assessment by phone/video
  • Quote for a private move or business
  • Date agreed, including clarification of parking
  • Loading and unloading with our team from Berlin
  • Optional assembly service in the new flat

Because the city includes urban core areas as well as rural districts, we adapt vehicle size and team strength to each location. This keeps the move predictable from the first box to the last lamp – whether a small single flat or a complete detached house.

Ziebigk, Törten, Roßlau: residential areas in Dessau-Roßlau

Dessau-Roßlau is divided into numerous districts with very different characters – an important factor in planning a move. We check the conditions at every address in advance and adapt the logistics accordingly.

  • City centre/Zoberberg: dense development, some high-rise estates, good connections to Dessau main station
  • Ziebigk: Gründerzeit buildings, a popular residential area with narrower streets
  • Törten: world-famous for Walter Gropius's Bauhaus estate, listed terraced houses
  • Roßlau (Elbe): a separate district on the opposite bank of the Elbe with a harbour, shipyard history and quieter residential areas
  • Mildensee & Waldersee: green outskirts with detached houses and allotments
  • Kochstedt, Alten, Kleutsch: rural districts with farmstead plots
  • Meinsdorf, Natho, Rodleben: village structure on the edge of the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm

For moves within the densely built core of the city, a parking restriction zone makes sense if needed, while in the outer districts there is usually enough space for lorries and trailers. In Törten in particular, the listed buildings and narrow access require careful planning that protects both furniture and walls.

Distances within the twin town also play a role: a move from Roßlau to Dessau city centre crosses the Elbe bridge and should be timed with traffic in mind. We handle both short distances within a district and moves right across Dessau-Roßlau – including clearance of old belongings if a household has to be cleared when moving out.

What a move in Dessau-Roßlau costs

Moving costs in Dessau-Roßlau depend on several factors: flat size, floor, distance, accessibility and any extra services needed. We calculate transparently and with no hidden extra costs, so that our customers know from the outset what to expect.

Type of moveGuide priceExample services
1-room flatfrom €354Van, 2 people, basic equipment
2-room flatfrom €609Lorry, 2–3 people, packing optional
3-room flatfrom €909Lorry, 3 people, furniture assembly
Long-distance movefrom €3.90/kmdepending on distance and volume
Parking restriction zone€30–100/daySigns & permit

These figures are guide prices for standard moves in Dessau-Roßlau; individual factors such as the number of floors without a lift, bulky waste disposal or a piano transport can affect the final price. If you only want to move a few pieces of furniture, you save real money with our part load, as several jobs are combined on one route.

The district also plays a role: moves in narrow old-building areas such as Ziebigk or in the historic Törten Bauhaus estate often take extra time, while residential areas in Waldersee or Mildensee with good access can be handled more quickly. For private customers we recommend our private move service, which already bundles all standard services in the fixed price. You will receive a non-binding quote from us within a short time – by phone, email or via our contact form.

Parking ban in Dessau-Roßlau: ask the city

Especially in Dessau city centre, around Zerbster Straße and Kavalierstraße or in the Gründerzeit streets of Ziebigk, parking is often scarce on moving day. To work without long carrying distances, an official parking restriction zone right outside the front door makes sense.

The parking ban is ordered by the road traffic authority of the City of Dessau-Roßlau. The city's service portal does not list a separate online application for it; ask the city administration at the town hall about the fee and notice period. We help you prepare the necessary details:

  • Street and house numbers for moving out and moving in
  • Date and time of the move
  • Required length of the zone
  • Notices for residents and the property management

Our price list gives €30 to €100 per day for a parking restriction zone, depending on the stretch of road and duration. In streets such as those in Ziebigk or the Törten estate it often makes sense, because without reserved parking it is hardly possible to load directly. In Roßlau or outlying areas such as Mildensee and Waldersee, the space in front of the house is often sufficient.

For apartment buildings with courtyard access, as found in parts of the city centre, we check in advance whether our vehicle will fit. This avoids waiting times, and furniture and boxes get into the building quickly. Contact us early so that there is enough time for the permit.

Dessau-Roßlau on the A9: moves to Halle, Leipzig or Berlin

Dessau-Roßlau lies between several economic areas of central Germany. The A9 Berlin–Munich runs through the south-east of the city, with the Dessau-Ost and Dessau-Süd junctions; heading north takes you to Berlin, heading south to Leipzig and Halle. Roßlau is connected to the Coswig junction via the B187.

From Dessau-Roßlau to our base on Stromstraße in Berlin-Moabit it is around 124 road kilometres, a good hour and a half of pure driving time by lorry. For long distances our price list starts at €3.90 per kilometre, depending on volume and route length; the fixed price after a survey is binding.

We also plan moves within Saxony-Anhalt, for example to Halle (Saale), Magdeburg, Lutherstadt Wittenberg or Halberstadt. Because our team travels from Berlin, we set such dates with some notice.

If you only want to transport a few pieces of furniture or individual boxes, you save with our part load compared with a complete move. Especially on the route via the A9 towards Berlin, this saves money when a trip is already planned. We specify the vehicle, straps and blankets in the quote so that your belongings arrive safely – within Saxony-Anhalt or nationwide.

  • Senior move – sensitive support when moving into assisted living
  • Student move – specifically for students at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences on the Dessau campus
  • Piano transport – for grand and upright pianos of all sizes
  • Clearance – for household clearances and cellar clearances

Whether moving in the historic Törten Bauhaus estate, in quiet Roßlau on the Elbe or in one of the village districts such as Kochstedt and Natho – we clarify the conditions during the survey and adjust our approach to the location. For short-notice requests, we tell you openly whether the journey from Berlin can be made in time.

In addition to transport, on request we offer packing service, assembly and dismantling of furniture and proper disposal of old furniture. This way you get all moving services in Dessau-Roßlau from a single source – reliably, with liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) and with a clear price structure.

Office, practice, institute: company move in Dessau-Roßlau

Dessau-Roßlau is home to companies from a wide range of sectors and to the headquarters of the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt) near the main station. Anhalt University of Applied Sciences with its Dessau campus also leads to regular office and institute moves in the city.

For a smooth company move in Dessau-Roßlau, we take into account the particular requirements of business customers:

  • Moves planned outside core working hours to minimise downtime
  • Proper transport of IT equipment, filing cabinets and server cabinets
  • Dismantling and assembly of office furniture and workstations
  • Labelling system for structured reassembly at the new location
  • Discretion in handling sensitive documents

Businesses in the commercial areas around the A9 junctions in particular benefit from short approach routes and good accessibility for our lorry fleet. We are also happy to plan moves between Dessau and Roßlau, for example when relocating a site across the Elbe.

If inventory is retired during an office move, we also handle the clearance of storerooms and archives properly and in an environmentally friendly way. For smaller institute moves or the transport of individual pieces of furniture, our part load is also a good option and an economical alternative, especially on a limited budget. We also support companies expanding beyond the city limits with moves to Magdeburg or Halle (Saale), both within an hour's drive.

Student move and booking your move in Dessau-Roßlau

With the Dessau campus of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, the city is a regular destination for students who often move between flatshare rooms, halls of residence and their first flats of their own. For this group we developed our student move – quick, straightforward and fairly priced.

Typical student moves in Dessau-Roßlau often take place between the city centre, Zoberberg and residential areas near the campus. As these are mostly smaller flats, such moves can often be done within our 1-room packages from €354. Dates at the start or end of semester, when many moves happen at the same time, are best planned with advance notice because we travel from Berlin.

How booking works with us:

  • Send an enquiry by phone, email or online form
  • Briefly describe flat size, floor and destination
  • Receive an individual quote within a short time
  • Date confirmation and, if needed, organisation of a parking restriction zone
  • The move carried out by our team from Berlin

For older people planning to move to a smaller flat or a care home, our senior move offers particularly considerate support. Whether students, families or businesses – we recommend booking your moving date in Dessau-Roßlau as early as possible, especially at busy times such as the change of semester or the end of the month. This secures your preferred date and lets you benefit from our careful advance planning, including parking and route organisation.

Parking ban for a move in Dessau-Roßlau: contacts and preparation

In Dessau-Roßlau, a parking ban for a move is ordered by the city's road traffic authority. The legal basis is § 45 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO): the authorities may restrict the use of certain roads for reasons of safety or order. According to paragraph 4, traffic is regulated by traffic signs and traffic devices. Home-made barriers with chairs, tape or boxes are therefore not sufficient and should be avoided.

A separate online application for parking bans for moves is not listed in the city's digital service portal under the category "Traffic & Mobility". At present only two services are listed there, including the exemption permit for parking concessions. So ask the city administration: Dessau Town Hall, Zerbster Straße 4, 06844 Dessau-Roßlau, telephone 0340 204-0, email [email protected]. According to the city, Department V is responsible for public safety and order. You will get binding information on the fee and notice period there.

  • Details for the request: street and house numbers, date, time, required length.
  • Driveways: under § 12 (3) StVO, parking in front of property entrances and exits is not permitted, nor in front of lowered kerbs.
  • Resident parking permit: according to the city it costs 30.70 euros per year and is only valid in the specially marked spaces of the zone. It is applied for with BundID.

You can find help with the request and planning here: parking restriction zone.

Dessau-Roßlau: bulky waste, Stadtpflege and registration after moving in

In Dessau-Roßlau, bulky waste is booked with the city via an online form ("Auftrag zur Sperrmüllentsorgung"). You must provide contact details, the number of people in the household, the collection address and the quantity and type of items. According to the city, up to 1.0 m³ per person per year is free of charge; above that, fees apply. Items are put out unpacked and tidily on the nearest public road that refuse lorries can use; by 7:00 am on the collection day, and from 6:00 pm the evening before. If the city does not get in touch within 14 days, you should follow up. The collection does not take building rubble, waste wood, sanitary ceramics or waste in boxes or sacks.

The contact is the municipal enterprise Stadtpflege, Wasserwerkstraße 13, 06842 Dessau-Roßlau, telephone 0340 204-1572. According to Stadtpflege, orders are taken on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm and on Tuesdays from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Collection calendars and recycling container sites are listed on the Stadtpflege website.

After moving in, § 17 of the Federal Registration Act sets a deadline of two weeks for registration. The city refers to electronic registration at wohnsitzanmeldung.gov.de and online appointment booking. The landlord must confirm that you have moved in (§ 19 BMG).
